[Q] Sony Xperia Tablet Z 2 difficulties - Xperia Z2 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!!! Is it true that to update Android it is necessary to connect tablet to a computer? If it is true, maybe it is better to make updates with the help of WI-FI?? Because it is a bit complicated!
But I like the Xperia tablets greatly! The are thin and not heavy that is a big plus of them!

No don't worry , it doesnt matter how you update your tablet or any android device.
I would recommend you too do the one that is fastest , which for me is often via wifi

Hi,
djtreo, i have a request to you...
You started the thread for Alcatel 995 and the first post is yours, can u edit it and add two links to it, please?
the links are :
1. Link to all roms and stuff for the 995 http://goo.gl/SDOQR
2. Rom comparison matrix http://goo.gl/532ZP
Hope this is not to much to ask from u,
Thanks in advance,

This is really a great device. Amazing price-quality ratio. I just bought one as a second phone and I'm very happy with it.
Performance is comparable to Samsung Galaxy S+ but with a nice 4.3 screen.
And Alcatel has promised an ICS update so fingers crossed.
@ whigga: yeah, it's really a great device with such cheap price. it's a steal!
hopefully devs can look into this phone. it's something like LG Optimus X2 of some sort.
Available here now for $280
I really like the 4.3" over my 4.1" phones,
Strange they made no 850MHz 3G units for countries that have the stronger frequency like Australia, USA, Thailand, China etc... for those that dont know 850MHz can penetrate into buildings to allow better indoor reception.
Just like to bump this thread. Any update of development?
Heey guys!
I just bought this phone 2 days ago, after my Galaxy Gio died 1,5 week ago.
I'm very happy to hear there are more satisfied users of the OT-995 who want a custom rom and XDA thread
Let's hope a good developer will also get this beautifull device!
By the way: does someone know a good way to root the Alcatel OT-995?
@ markvann: that remains the question. I still got an unrooted OT-995. tried those rooting procs, nothing works atm.

Hello Petalotis!
I just looked, and it seems there is not 512mb ram. It's exactly the same as it is with Xperia Neo V I guess, because my telephone says there's something like 370 mb ram. Normally I'm a heavy device user (except for my last one, the Galaxy Gio), but I have to say this smartphone can handle all the apps I want. I'm really happy with it, and on Quadrant Standard benchmark it even scores better than Galaxy Nexus (and on Antutu they have around the same amount of points). So I hope you don't get fooled by the 'not-so-high' amount of ram, and that you can participate in searching for OT-995 root methodes and ROMs!

I want to buy a new Android phone and this one catch my attention, i have a ZTE Blade and want to upgrade .
The launch of this phone in my country (Portugal) will be in 7 of May with the name of "Optimus Madrid" and the price maybe would be €229,90, i was searching here if anyone begun to developing custom roms to him, will be an asset.
+1 for development of this device
also I would ask the people who bought this device if they try to connect mouse or keyboard in mini usb gate ?
already seen a guide to do this in galaxy s (in this forum). Hub must accept external power because there isnt enough power in mini usb
is it possible that this works ? can you try to connect keyboard and mouse in hub or a usb flash
i would appreciate that
thank you very much
I also have the alcatel ot-995.
I''ve tried things like superonclick and z4root.
Is there any possible way to root my phone or do I just have to wait for a new rooting way.
Hello! I just bought is phone people , has as nice price!!!
And I hope someone considering spend some time to make the root possible!!

Just like to bump on this thread again.
To Devs: Hopefully someone out there who has the heart to develop a ROM for this nice phone would be love by all who bought this amazing price-to-performance phone.

This phone is perfectly capable of making 3g video calls. At least it works in Holland, where I live. Do realize that this functionality also depends on your network provider if they allow it.

Yeah, you're right! Software implementation is defenitely not as good as the hardware should allow it to be. Processor and ram are more than capable, but still there is lag where similar speced phones have none. Hopefully the promised ICS upgrade will fix this or otherwise hoping for some good 'ol custom rom development.
OT995 Potentials
I'm a freak of speed for low cost and the alcatel OT995 will definetly be
my next one!
Hopefully does developers see the potentials of this low budget device,
and make a masterpiece ready to challenge with high-end non-price-quality
phones!
I keep fingers crossed, once a project gets started, I buy one !

XPERIA S and Windows 8

So, as our Xperia S is ARM based I thought it would be great to port Windows 8 to Xperia S. It would look great on SONY's HD screen, and all those colorfull Windows 8 tabs would look just fantastic. Let's think of it, and do something.
wouldn't this be so fricking hard to port?
Sent with my Sony Xperia S using a little bit of KA magic.
pretty much impossible since windows is closed source so therefore finding a way to get hardware working is beyond possible.
if you wanted a windows phone you should of brought one , if you want an android phone to look like a windows phone then download W7 Launcher ;0
NO!
You see, android is not that smooth on this phone, it usually hangs, and design is not as good as it should be, I'm SE fan since childhood so I wont by any other phone, but SONY users must have easy choice what OS to install on the phone
Short answer: no. The internals of WinRT are closer to desktop and WinMo8 is very, very hardware dependant. This means that getting any hardware support on that without Microsoft is going to be very, very, EXTREMELY hard.
But, you must admit, that Win8 or Win7 would look great on XS ))) Just imagine it, I'm not fan of Windows phones, I really like android but Dualcore 1.5 Is not enough to run smooth

My 1.2GHz clocked AOKP JB running TF101 says BULL****.
No, really this phones are really slow, that's why we need better OS that uses less memory and cpu, for example when I open browser and music player, my music starts glitching and sometimes phone even hangs, its very stupid for 1GB ram phone, so lets do something about porting Windows, or something like that.

It's not because the phone is unable to run Android, it's because of bugs in Sony's firmware. CM10 is very fast for me and capable of running 5-10 apps with music in the background and zero stutter.
Android is smooth as butter on my XS running FXP131 CM9, There was nothing really wrong with it on the stock firmware except that Sony somehow felt the need to leave out WiFi Direct, If you want Windows phone, Go and buy a windows phone, The XS is way overpowered for it.

There's a fix for that stutter... Works on every single rom...
Go to system and change in build.prop the following values:
dalvik.vm.heapgrowthlimit=32m
dalvik.vm.heapsize=64m
Save and reboot...
Enjoy!!!

You see, there is one problem about it, SONY XPERIA S is not a cheap phone, when I pay a lot of money for it, is should work as smooth as watch, developer must do it's best to solve those firmware bugs, and SONY is just ignoring all our requests.

Jellybean update may come throught the Sony Pc companion app!!!

Hey guys....so yesterday the Pc companion app for xperia phones recieved an update ....and the good news is that now it shows "update phone/tablet"
This definitely means that now the app also supports tablets and we may even recieve jellybean through the PC companion.......
Who knows we may get the update this month...:good::good:
UPDATE:It seems the only tablet supported is the Xperia tablet Z
We are supposed to get the update this month. Although i think ours will be OTA.

Ok. It seems there is Xperia Tablet, but unfortunately there is no Tablet S. So, lets hope that Tablet S will receive update traditionally by air.
I'm on the latest version of PC Companion, but no mention of a tablet?
In Sony Update Service you can find a new category (Tablet) but only Xperia Tablet Z appears there... no luck for us!

I just tried with xperia tablet s, and pc companion says "Pc Companion was not able to connect the phone/tablet"
they care more about releasing jelybean on tablet that is't even being sold yet then xperia tablet s or 1 year old tablet s.
This will certainly make brand loyal customers abonden sony.
Thats typically Sony allways thinking ahead..
i'm sure they still have love for us we just have to be patient.

Confirmed. Also using sony updater service it comes up with Xperia Z under tablet. This confirms that Xperia Z is made by Sony Mobile. Where as we with S1 and XS are stuck with stupid Sony! lol

That's so true and sad! They put all their efforts and hard work to PS4 now!
So nothing today either i guess, not suprised sony more bussy with live stream tonight anyway.
Just give it time, the update will come to fruition soon. At least we can expect it to.be.bug free.

Will most likely buy also cous microsoft just keep screwing with customers and dead rings altough ps3 also has them its not as common
It seems Sony is playing the same strategy with PS4. Just lost 2 hours of my life to see a controller, specs that were out for some time and a bunch of trailers or real-time play without even a glimpse of the actual console. I don't know if the idea is to wreck the whole company or if they are just that stupid to advertise something as mind-blowing and then all they serve is disappointment. What a shame for such a great company.

WHat ROMS?

hey! Looking to buy the S Tablet in the next few days but I am not seeing a lot of DEV for it. Are there any ROMS for it and is there a standard root process for it? The tablet looks pretty nice but I wanna make sure I can do the things I have done with previous tablets
i don't think anyone would advice you to buy tablet s right now not even the xperia tablet s, probably not the xperia tablet z either.
Their lot issues atm, and sony is awfully silent.
nope.. we don't have any rom.. only Root on ICS.. and some minor tweaks!

shutdown issues especialy and the fact that sony is slacking a lot on jelly bean for this tablet.
the tablet s is not even known if it will get it, the xperia tablet s would get in february theor not any news yet.
Been promised some tough by sony community manager and some one from belgium.
thanks for your help! I decided on the ASUS TF300t. I has the quadcore 1.2. I do like the size and shape of the sony more but figured i would go with something that, right now, appears to have a little more time with the DEV's.

Probably should have waited for the Xperia Tablet Z...that one's developed by the Sony Mobile team (as opposed to the VAIO team that developed the Tablet S) and thus will have infinitely better support (Sony Mobile is really good with that stuff). And it's just a sweet tablet.

Personaly would gone for google nexus.
xperia z i really would't take anything atm from sony with current attitude they are having.
With asus you just have to be 100% sure you have no issues at all aka make sure you have no stuck dead pixels or just return it their quality control can be verry bad.

No
So far, there is no announcement from Sony regarding N availability to their devices.
We need to wait and see..
Maybe No because the support period for the z2 has ended and sony does not guarantee that it will bring further updates for the z2
I'm not so surprised but i hope xda developers can make Custom ROM for Z2
Why everyone in here is so Pessimist,Z2 and Z3 have the same rights to have N,they are twins, literally. How can you say "No" just like that? Sounds like you didn't paid anything for your device,Z2 is pretty capable of run N,let's see if Sony have the dignity to update.

Nope pretty sure mm will be the z2's final big official os update, Soon it'll be a end of life device. Z3 will get N officially but then be in the same boat it'll be it's final big os update.
