[Q] Missing android system recovery menu advanced options - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've been hitting my head against a wall trying to install a new Rom on my Galaxy S3 I9300 device.
My device has super user permissions, I've installed CWM, also installed Super User, Root Checker, and confirmed that the device does have root access.
The issue is, when trying to install a new ROM, Revolution and also tried Hypermax. When I try to install Revolution my device doesn't go anywhere but just reboots. When I try to install Hypermax, I get the error;
"e:signature verification failed"
I've followed the following tutorials to get the steps to change the ROM;
http://joyofandroid.com/install-android-revolution-hd-custom-rom-on-samsung-galaxy-s3/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/rom-hypermax-v8-t2755048
To try and go around the error above, I've downloaded CFRoot, successfully installed, but the same issue again when trying to install either ROMs above.
Have also tried to install superuser.zip but again, I get the "e:signature verification failed" error.
The main issue I think is that when I boot into recovery, I don't have the option to access the advanced options so can't toggle email signature options. The advanced options I'm missing are like that in the first image on the following link; http://www.recovery-android.com/root-android-in-recovery-mode.html
If anyone can help, would really appreciate it.
Cheers.

[Q] Unable to install CM (Signature error)

SGS3 i9300 GSM rooted with Superuser.
I'm trying to install CM 10 but keep getting errors; "E: Failed to verify whole file signature" and "E: signature verification failed" in nice red letters.
I used the Unified toolkit by mskip, and got the "You hacked it!" msg, so I'm rooted as far as I know. Haven't tried any other roms before this one, but had the same error with another nightly CM 10 I downloaded.
Sure I'm doing something stupid - any help appreciated. Be gentle - my last Android device was a HTC Hero....
Any help appreciated.
Sounds like you are trying to flash from stock recovery, you need to install custom recovery

Trying to Flash from a .zip file on External SD

Hi
I am running a Stock LSD 4.1.2 JB Rom on my I9100 and do not wish to Root my phone. Yes it was rooted once but I have a specific reason for not wanting to revert back to root.
On a few occasions over the past year I have wanted to flash an app via "Recovery Mode", a .zip file located on the phone's external SD card.
On trying to flash, the following is displayed in yellow: -
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I have searched and searched this and other forums and although I can find many many instances when this has ocurred with other people I have not yet seen a generic solution to this problem.
It must ocurr because of a certain situation being prevelant within my phone and the references to it on forums usually suggest they are because someone is messing with a Custom Rom and/or a Rooted Kernal etc etc.
Could someone please tell what is happening, why this is the case and what can be done to sort it please.
I would say that my phone is just over 18 months old, never has had a problem, has been flashed with "Stock Roms" quite a few times and all without wiping or restoring to the factory settings. I do not want to wipe it to sort this problem out and am hoping an easy fix is available.
Hope someone can help
ps - I am trying to install the 4.2 Camera via the patched.zip and have tried to install the "Temporary" Clockwork Recovery" app with exactly the same problem. I stress I do not want to Root.
Anyone please?

Ermm, do not think so. Please review this thread before making wild comments like this: -

I know in some way though that you probably thought you were helping.
Surely this problem has a cause and a solution?

u have to first flash the 'Temporary CWM recovery .zip' then select 'reboot to recovery' option in stock recovery to enter 'temporary cwm recovery' there u select the 'Camera zip file' to flash.
PS- after flashing 'Temporary CWM recovery.zip' do not reboot ur phone the normal way by doing so u will lose ur temporary recovery.
each time before flashing any zip file u have to flash 'temporary cwm.zip' file first.
Hi thanks but I know this.
Can we get back to my topic please? I would not have posted if I could flash the Temp CWM Recovery. zip file
I just need to know what causes the error I am getting and how I can irradicate it.

As the error indicates, it fails to verify the file's signature. You can't flash unsigned packages via stock recovery. The solution is exactly what was already mentioned to you:either root and install a custom kernel/recovery (you don't want it, that's fine), or use a temporary custom (non-stock) recovery. While I had problems with the stock recovery flashing unsigned zips (obviously), I never had an issue with flashing a temp recovery. Try redownloading and reinstalling it - it could be a corrupt file. Which recovery are you trying to use? I recommend the temp touch CWM by Phil (the dev of the PhilZ kernel; use link in his signature). Always works like a charm.

Nice one! Thank you
It must have been a duff file (temp touch CWM by Phil) as the one I just downloaded, installed without a problem. It was the very same program file but from a different source.
Just installed the 4.2 Camera too so now going to play
Thank you again

Beginner - Help!! Error Status 7

I just rooted my AT&T Galaxy S3
Specs:
Model number: SAMSUNG-SGH-I747
Android Verson: 4.3
I am trying to install the AOKP Rom for my device. I have it all downloaded and know how to install it but I keep getting Status error 7. What is happening? I read a little online and it says this error is for whenever you have the incorrect ROM version? Please help!

Did you unlock your bootloader?
Do you have CWM or TWRP?
Do you get the "Status error 7" after installing or before? And did you do a factory/wipe data reset?

I am not sure about unlocking the bootloader. What exactly is that?
I am using CWM.
I get the error before. It says it is loading and then I get the error. I did factory/wipe data reset. I also cleared the cache. I also tried with a different ROM called HellFire and it gives the same status error.
EDIT: I got it. I downloaded the ROM Manager App by CWM and I got it to work first try!!!

Bascially, bootloader is a software that before your operating system, it allows your operating system to load, unlocking bootloader allows you to install new OS's, and a locked bootloader doesn't.
Bascially, it's like rooting the software that opens your OS, and changing it load a custom OS.
You can unlock a bootloader with adb and fastboot, they are found in Android SDK.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot oem unlock
And if you still continue to have problems with your OS, try reinstalling it the same way, except formatting /system before doing-so.
You may need to install a higher vergion of cwm .. try the touchz vergion ...

[Q] backup before installing CWM?

Hi all,
Under stock recovery, I tried to run an update.zip, which is gapps package. I got: "E:signature verification failed. Installation aborted."
I googled and planning to do the CWM things.
But, this Philips phone (android 4.0.4, one article says it's MTK device) is rare and no ROM available out there. So I have to be careful.
Could anybody please answer:
1>. Is there any MTK version of CWM?
2>. How do I backup BEFORE installing CWM? --- in case I want to get back stock recovery.
3>. If I got the wrong CWM version, is it just can not install CWM, or I can but very dangerous?
Thanks.

Thanks.
I viewed some tutorials and tried Goomanager and visited TWRP site, but my device is not in twrp's list. Can I just pick a relatively new version of twrp and install?
Finally I find in this forum a thread: [PORT] [TOOL] Carliv Touch Recovery for MT657x.
I successfully flashed recovery.
Thank you, sir.
I think I didn't helped you at all. LOL no prob

I can tell you the status 7 error in recovery means you need to update the recovery to the newest version, that may be where your problem lies
