[Q] KINDLE FIRE HDX 8.9 Soft bricked.Help! - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I rooted the device,and changed the build.prop file.When I reboot the device,it shows kindle fire logo always.So I use V+&POWER into stock recovery,I reset the device.Now the computer couldn't recognized the device.I only entey the stock recovery.How I can do.Thank you,everyone.

If you don't have ADB access at this point, then there's nothing you can do.
The best you could try is contacting Amazon about it and seeing if they'll replace your device.

..I can tell you that at the moment your device is probably still fixable if you stop messing with it now. And start doing your homework. in pages past you will find other threads discussing this, there is even a root thread that discusses a certain Chinese root tool that roots via ADB anyway blah blah I have helped other people repair this situation but I am not willing to go fetch it for you. it is here and it can be done.you simply need to accomplish root on a device that will not boot ,the older Chinese root method we got desperate and used on older firmware works this way. once you have root and adb you will be able to change system file permissions, even push a different build.prop file ,as long as you have not wiped the system via safestrap with the proper research and time you will fix your device...somewhere here there is a direct link to, kindle help adb. that had correct drivers. You must uninstall previous drivers for your device on your computer and install the correct drivers to get a adb again. Good luck

you followed all the directions on how to install sdk and uninstall old drivers ect http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588608 again the last 3 pages here are about installing the sdk to get it to see ....like I said before if you have done this and follow through and not just looked at it and thought it might not work then there's probably no help for you. Sorry folks if you don't understand and know how to use this info..there is hardly no help for you because currently there is not a 1 click solution...besides a call to amazon.....
You have the JDK & Android SDK installed? Occasionally I had issues connecting to adb when recreating previous bootloops & soft bricks. It seems that it gets hung up in a stat that Windows doesn't like. The only way I could get adb to function at these times was to run a Linux distro or on a Linux machine. You can download the wubi installer for dual booting Unbuntu, which is what 99% of people that have had issues have done to regain adb access. Linux just seems to play better with Android & the Android SDK tools, which really isn't surprising.

NO. This is not an OMAP device & it does NOT use uBoot, so factory cable is useless. Try a different USB port. Also, if you installed Linux, you still have to install the Java JDK & the Android SDK. There are some guides for setting up a build environment, which is pretty much what you need to do to really be able to use the tools in Windows or Linux. Taske a look here: Setting up a build environment in Unbuntu
You don't need Python or Gnu, nor the modules, but you must sdet up the JDK & the SDK & then set the paths.

as I said maybe something will come through QPST
at least QPST detects Kindle HDX 8.9 (gray logo and then a black screen) with factory cable
I also lock the device after editing build.prop
but I lack the knowledge and skills to continue this way (in order not to kill the device)

Yeah, I don't read chinese & google doesn't do a very good job translating it, so, not gonna even try.
HOWEVER, I do know that you will need the Lab126 HSUSB driver. I don't remember if this was the one I used, but it was similarly named, I think this is for the BC radio stack diagnostic bulk mode originally & worked for the HDX. http://www.driverscape.com/download/lab126-hs-usb-diagnostics-0800-(com39)
Actually, I remember playing with this & thinking it could be useful for some of the early HDX issue I ran across too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142

You'll have to search around for it. Lab126 is the company that makes the HDX. That page only shows you the various driver names, the correct com port & identifies what device you want to see in device manager once you get QPST set up properly.

if kindle bricked (for example after a failure edit build.prop - gray logo and black screen), pc not detect device with standart microusb cable, driver can not be installed, adb not working.
but if use factory cable (buy or make), then the device connect as a usb bulk. you may install the first driver to it.
further steps to recovery does not exist yet

[Q] Impossible Rooting Polaroid PSPR355

Hello XDA community, this is my first thread, i had never needed to post anything cause i always find everything im searching for in this awesome community... until now :crying:
Last week I got a new android device which is made by Polaroid, model: PSPR355, its a pretty low class device but I thought it would be enough for me.... then i realize I needed root permissions, for obvious reasons... easy I thought... i had rooted many devices...how hard can it be...right?... WRONG! :crying: . The first problem I encountered were the drivers..couldnt find em anywhere... fortunatelly i found a tutorial were i could install the drivers in a different way...although I took 2 days to do this...Ive been about 5 days trying to root my phone.... Ive tryied about 10 different programs with their different versions... and any of those rooted my phone, nor Oneclikroot, nor Unlockroot, etc, etc..... I really gave up trying to find something on the web cause i didnt even find the phone on its official site, so I came her defeated asking for any solution, idea, or if you want to help me with commands, a programm or anything else to root my phone, Im not even afraid of trying programming (Im trying to learn how to make roms, kernels, etc for this phone cause theres nothing on the web abou it but this is a theme for another time) if you wanted to help me i would really appreciate it, im a little desperate so anything would come useful thanks everyone and I hoppe you can help me!!! :fingers-crossed:

I would recommend trying the towelroot application. It can be downloaded from here, just click on the orange lambda to download the tr.apk file. Then open towelroot follow the instructions in the application. After the device reboots I would recommend downloading, Root Checker Basic form the Play Store and running that to make sure your device is rooted. Finally install SuperSU, and you should be good to go.
First thanks for answering so fast shimp208! And I guess I forgot to tell that I was in Mexico and Im using Telcel's network, I downloaded and installed the apk file but it doesnt starts I click the button pops up a black screen and then closes to the last app I used...any idea about this error...or if its beacuse of the carrier, by the way the device has Android 2.3.7 I dont know if it has something to do with this error

Does it present an error message of any kind before it force closes? Try uninstalling and then re-installing the application, and if that doesn't work go to application manger under settings, find the towelroot application and select the options to clear it's cache and data. The carrier won't have any effect in this case, and with it being Android 2.3.7 your device most definitely has a kernel build date before June 3rd, 2014.

No it simply closes without showing anything, and without even giving the "Force Close" message, i thought it was because i first installed it on the sd card, or because of not enough space but no, I moved it to the phone and uninstalled some apps I had, I uninstalled and installed towelroot twice and it didnt work, I installed the v1 of it and i got to the [make it ra1n] screen but when I click the button it closes immediately again without any error message

Very interesting, while in theory the app should work for any kernel build date earlier then June 3rd, 2014 the app many not be compatible with devices running an Android version less then 4.x.

Since you have the usb drivers working on your computer, try booting into the bootloader and using fastboot to see if the command fastboot devices returns anything. If the computer see's the device in fastboot that's a good sign. If your device doesn't have a locked bootloader which it likely doesn't, then I can try and create a rooted system image for you to flash in fastboot. Provided fastboot see's your device if it does, if you can provide me an adb dump of your /system folder then I will see what can be done.
Interesting for me.,.

Unfortunately if fastboot doesn't show your device without any other flashing utility, even with the system dump there is no way to flash a rooted system image if it was created.
Got to see if this guys do the trick!

Since your computer recognizes the device and installed the driver and shows the device when in fastboot mode that's a good sign. The Android with the exclamation point is part of normal stock Android system recovery, it just means that the recovery menu has been hidden (You should be able to get the menu to appear by pressing the power and both the volume buttons in recovery mode). To dump /system run the following command:
Code:
adb pull /system
Then please send me a link to the /system dump, from there I will make a rooted system image.
Factory Rooted??
Hey guys I'm new to this so I may be wrong but has anybody thought to check if the Polaroid PSPR355 comes Factory Rooted??? I had a Polaroid Tablet, PID something(I forget the name), which I tried for hours to root resulting in: bootloop, hard reset, root, bootloop, hard reset, root, bootloop, hard reset, about to give up. So I Googled how to root Polaroid PID something (again, I forget the name), and I come to a post somewhere(forgot that too) that tells me my Tablet and similar Polaroid electronic devices(as well as most electronic devices coming from China) are factory rooted due to some Chinese law. So after the last hard reset, I downloaded HowToRoot App to check if my Polaroid Tablet is, in fact, rooted. I press the little lock button(root checker) and I find that, to my surprise, my Polaroid Table is in fact rooted. So all I had to do was download SuperSU from Google Play Store and Update Binary when prompted and I was Super User. Don't know if this helps but it worked for me.

As of right now there is not a fix for you sorry . You probably would have known all that though if you had been reading at all in this forum or at least read how to use safestrap properly . You really wonder why Amazon does not want an external Sd card ? The company a media company that also has cloud storage has interest in protecting copyrighted material, and that makes a business out of selling movies and music, and obviously they don't want you sideloading large amounts of your own media. Ect. Plus they've saved a few cents in manufacturing costs and get exactly what they want out of the device. You haveing use their storage and streaming... I don't know how many people that come in here thinking this is a regular tablet it is not. it is a Amazon media sales tool. And they have worked very hard to keep it that way, otherwise we would not be in these locked up predicaments.

How to unlock Alcatel Ideal 4060A Bootloader?

Hi,
I'm brand new to this forum and my name is Jessy, and it's my pleasure to be here!
I recently bought this AT&T GoPhone (for around $29) at Walmart, and I was following this guide to allow me to use my SD Card as an internal memory storage unit for my phone, but I found out that I need to unlock the Bootloader, install TWRP, SuperSU and Link2SD apps to the SD card and my phone. Since this smart phone is similar to the Idol 3, could I use this method to unlock the Bootloader for my phone or do I have to try a different approach?
I appreciate your time and I look forward to contribute further to these forums! Thanks again!

I picked one up on Black Friday, and decided to root it. I was only able to install an older version of SuperSU though (v2.46). First I had to install the PC version of KingRoot (It's in Chinese I believe, but middle button is always "next" or "yes"), root the phone, and then replace KingRoot with SuperSU. Took me a few tries.
This is the guide I used from the forum:
SuperSU Me_6.4.apk
KingRootSetup v3.2.0.1129.exe
1. install kingrootsetup on pc(must have internet connection to work)
2. connect ur phone with ADB enabled from developers option
3. root ur phone by following on screen instructions...
4. after rooting, install supersume on phone
5.open the app, click on big blue button and wait...
done,replaced kingroot with supersu..

My Alcatel Ideal 4060A froze a few times during the removal of KingRoot, but all I did was: turn off the phone, remove the battery, and finish the procedure once the phone was on. The phone was only $10 on Black Friday, so you could say it was only an experiment on my part. Unless it's a really good phone, where you can go to the manufacture's website and download the original firmware and install it through your PC, there's not much you can do to unbrick a cheap phone that is practically unknown.

Thank you Mario for your help! I'm having a little trouble having my phone being recognized by Kingroot, although I have ADB enabled from the developers option, it seems not to pickup my phone still. I'm still trying though and I'll let you know if I get it to work properly, and perhaps document my mistake so others following this post who happen to have the same problem could know what to do.

*UPDATE*
Just wanted to update that I found out what was my mistake, which is a really simple and basic mistake, I apologize!
What I did was that after I had enabled ADB through my phone, it was already connected to my PC right after I had downloaded Kingroot, so my solution here was simple. I turned off my phone first, then I turned it back on while still connected with Kingroot still running then Kingroot finally read my phone and it rooted it as you outlined. Thanks again for your help, it is too valuable for me!
Here's the guide that I'm following so that I could install more apps to the phone through my 64 GB SD card if you guys were interested, to make the phone more useful, and I also installed my obama phone SIM card on it as well (from lifeline wireless, because hey why not? )
Here's the link to add more internal memory to this phone

No problem. I'm glad you got the phone rooted. I originally picked up the phone to use as an MP3 player, so I removed most of the unnecessary stock apps with "System app remover (ROOT)", but now that I see how good the phone is (at that price), I plan to use it as a backup phone. It even has a notification LED light for unopened messages LOL; anyway, good luck.
My Alcatel bricked too using this method stuck at boot logo and does nothing... Any fix?
Thanks for writing rooting method for Alcatel 4060a Ideal Pop445. Need some help

I've been an iPhone user for many years, I'm almost new to android. I have unlocked the bootloader from the hidden developers options in the settings app. I haven't found any thing useful to root my new Alcatel Ideal 4060a (Pop 445) (at&t unlocked). There are tons of bloatwares and many apps that I can't transfer to sd card. I hope you two can help me out here as I don't want to brick my device.
Question 1: Do jessy did something wrong(regarding your given steps to root) that makes her device rooted OR she has just been lucky? Because someone just posted that he/she has bricked his/her device.
Should I go ahead and try my luck with your method you there would be some advice you would like to give?
Question 2: If I would be able to root this device, would I be able to install Android 6.0 Marshmellow?
Don't root this yet

I have rooted with Kingroot 5; latest windows version on their website. Now I'm working on replacing it with Supersu or Supersu-me.
I think there always be some solution as far as you are seeing something on your phone's screen.
Just a note from another user with an Alcatel Ideal 4060a... (got for $10 from Best Buy on Black Friday)
Don't try using King-O-Root, then proceed to install Super SU from Google Play. It works that first launch, but on rebooting...
It's permanently bricked. And yes, I tried everything, including adb, recovery (doesn't have an option to flash a rom), from-pc flashing (wouldn't connect/wasn't recognized by adb or the other tools), fastboot (wouldn't launch), etc.
I don't know about the alternate Kingroot app, though. That probably works as some people have said it does for this model.
I was stupid and assumed King-O-Root would work as well, since it seems pretty generic and worked for another phone. I've learned my lesson and will now only follow guides for the specific phone model I have.
Why am I even writing this if it's a different rooting app? Cause I spent 6 hours just to end up killing one of my phones, and this is my best attempt at feeling like there was some worth to the waste. (the chance of preventing someone else the misfortunate, and just ranting)
Anyway, I'm going to bed. (So annoying because I only barely was brash enough to go ahead without a phone-specific guide--was on the fence, but landed on the unfortunate side) Argh! Argh! Argh!

Any solution for this? I want to replace King-O-Root with Super SU.
None that I know of.
I have another Android phone that I was also trying to get root on, and that one gets it temporarily using King-O-Root as well, but I'm too paranoid to try to make it permanent on that second one. Losing both my Android phones would be too painful.
If anything, I guess try the KingRoot program, from the pc, and then use the "SuperSU Me" app, as the person on the first page of this thread described. That way worked for at least one person apparently. (though the poster just after said it bricked theirs, so beware)
By the way, is your root from King-O-Root temporary (till restart) or permanent? I installed Super SU during the same launch I used King-O-Root, so I never got to see whether King-O-Root itself would have worked as a permanent (though non-ideal) solution. (I know that on my other Android phone it's temporary)
King-O-Root = Bricked Phone
KingRoot5 = Root Successful + it is possible to replace with SuperSU

Did you manage to unlock the bootloader? If not then you cant flash anything and building twrp would be useless.

I pulled the boot file. Could someone maybe look at that? I cannot boot to the bootloader.
I could try to flash_image twrp to the recovery and try that.
I got this phone on black friday, shortly after I got root with kingroot 5 pc and it was all great, however I got greedy and replaced kingoroot with supersu :silly:. First reboot and it goes into boot loop. Now its been sitting in a drawer. I think that purify deleted some app it looks at boot.
It looks like the simplest way to get a restore is 'IF' TCL/Alcatel does an update, someone intercepts the signed zip file, then that zip file could be distributed and used with the stock restore.
Hopeful everyone here can work a better solution... thanks for all your hard work everyone.
yes u r right
many time happen with me, Happen with me on asus KA10, But i got fastboot update img lucky. hope that u will get Fast boot image some day or we may able to get recovery for this device . in that case your your phone may start working

AT&T Alcatel OneTouch Allura (5056O) - Looking for Stock ROM

I am currently in communication with Alcatel's U.S. support (which may be outsourced, who knows?), and they have made it clear there is no OTU (OneTouchUpdate) available for the AT&T Alcatel Allura 5056O device. Their current advice is limited to performing a factory reset via the GUI, which of course isn't possible for a softbricked phone.
This means that as of this writing, there is no known way to restore this device from a softbrick.
I am explaining carefully the issue I and and a number of others here on XDA have experienced with this phone to Support, specifically asking for some method to reload the stock ROM, and will report any constructive suggestions they may have. But the OTU I made available at:
https://www.multcloud.com/share/0377ab37-15ed-4bcd-be3b-dbe8c7eb2cc8
...that lists the 5056 simply will not work on the 5056O.
Received this from the Contact Center:
The firmware is information that would only be available at the repair center. We would recommend you to perform a factory reset...

Still trying, but it isn't looking very good for those of us with softbricked 5056Os...
Yup I wanted to root the phone, so I did but then it bootlooped and it's bricked lol.
Haven't heard anything else from Alcatel's Customer "Support," so I've resent my questions to see if I can get some answers out of someone. There are enough of us affected by this issue that I'm not going to let them off quite so easily...
More bad news; the most recent reply from Alcatel CS:
At this moment it would be to send in the device into the repair center to get it repaired for you.

Clearly they are going to be less than helpful for those of us with the 5056O. Unless some kind soul here who has this phone is willing to image and post a copy of the Allura ROM, or someone knows a tech working for Alcatel who can supply the ROM, those of us with soft-bricked phones are completely screwed.
Am getting same info from Twitter CS...the ROM is only available inside their repair center.
(*sigh*) So unless someone else manages to liberate this device's ROM, guess we all might as well throw the devices in a drawer and move along. Just remember that the next time you're phone shopping, and bypass the Alcatel/TCL offerings.
Friends here I leave a link for you to download a copy I made to the Alcatel Allura 5056O, I did it through the flashfire application, I think if some advanced developer could work it, it would solve the problem we have. Https://mega.nz/#!01NDVR5K!rPPYEd87ndmg5Q9jmQ3qWjm1qGD3Rm7ge83yIsezSSQ

That is excellent, thank you very much!
Now let me make sure I understand; is this a copy of a softbricked ROM, or a functional one? Is it rooted or non-rooted?

It is a copy of a functional rom, has root access and has modifications that I did before the device would damage me, but I have all my data in it.

So, if we can figure out how the Alcatel OTUs push the ROM to the phone, we might be able to get a softbricked phone to the point of performing a system reset...

The problem with my phone is that I made a modification to the build prop and upon restart I just showed the logo and then black screen, connect it to the adb and try to carry a custom recovery of a 6040A alcatel I had before and the result was that too Delete the recovery stock, now the phone when I connect it to adb appears to me as unauthorized, so I have not been able to repair it

Keep trying. I've noticed that my 5056O does the same thing, but if I keep trying (restarting the phone, plugging in-and-out, etc.) I can eventually get adb devices to show it as "device" at which point I can acquire a shell, which can be SU'd.
Not guaranteeing this will work for you, but it has worked for me quite a few times so far. Beginning to think this phone is just magic, not science.
Just a quick bump to remind folks there are a bunch of soft-bricked 5056O phones out here in desperate search for a ROM...
Another bump to see if anyone has additional information on 5056O ROMs...hope springs eternal!
Still nothing, eh?
Hoping for someone with info on how to unbrick an Alcatel OneTouch Allura (5056O) - a stock ROM and means for recovery would be great!
Dear friends, after suffering for more than a year with my damaged phone, find a solution, I hope you can also solve it.
Here is a guide and the link to download the tool.
In the completely off phone will press the volume up and down keys at the same time and connect it to the pc so enter the download mode
1) Download the tool from this link https://mega.nz/#!NpkhnCoT!q5LxwJdWfIjcIY2tl99eGbhvRtrSY8bk-GQcDji7Rhs
2) Then unzip it install it on the pc
3) They execute it and they place the user and the password that he left in the attached note, when the update comes out they tell him not to
4) They look for the model of the team and they give to the option of flash and enjoy the magic
The only bad thing is that in the process the network release is lost

Um, last time I checked, the 5056O didn't have available ROMs outside AT&T. Is this the phone you repaired?
Also, latest version of SUGAR I found is v11.6.9R, which I placed in the MultCloud shared folder at https://www.multcloud.com/share/0377ab37-15ed-4bcd-be3b-dbe8c7eb2cc8 in the Misc folder. Same credentials as listed in the older README:

My fault being unfamiliar with this stuff, but can you explain what was lost?
Oh, and I don't suppose this got you any closer to installing a custom recovery to root the phone?
does anyone have a link to the stock firmware? for an ALcatel onetouch Allura 5056O, I've been browsing the thread and seen none of the links provided for the stock firmware are all dead.
Better late than never: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=10620683726822061932
I had hat on a HDD from a while back and never had a way to use it until I found edl. I'm currently flashing it now and I have no idea if it's gonna work or not. I don't think it will but who knows.
Also, its probably gonna take a few days or more to flash...
Edit: It failed at some point just a few hours in. Maybe it was just my device because I have disassembled it in the past looking for test points. I wish everyone else good luck.
