[Q] How to get Apple-Style Emojis on JB - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought a Blu Advance 4.0, a simple, cheap Android phone. It runs 4.2 (lastest system I can run), and I've been trying like crazy to replace some system files or something so I can view emoticons in iOS style system-wise, but I just can't figure it out! I found a good, working keyboard (com.qisiemoji.inputmethod in the Play store), but I want to display the iOS style emojis. I actually have OSX, so I can extract the PNGs from the official Apple TTF (as done here before: on github, find /tmm1/emoji-extractor). I've been looking around everywhere, and I just can't find a way to do this yet. Any ideas? (Yep, I'm rooted)

Thanks for your reply. I checked out that App, and the keyboard works flawlessly! However, I still have the Android B&W emoticons displayed in-app when I'm typing.

[Q] Why hasnt anyone tried porting emoji to android ?

I haven't seen this posted anywhere but I tried many keyboards where I can use them to type emoji anywhere but I dont like them I would like the original ICS keyboard or the samsung keyboard with emoji (because I have an S 2).
Hasn't anyone thought of addin it in the encoding in a way if I recieve any emoji in msgs or any other app it would appear instead of boxs ?
Am planning to fill this gap after I learn coding until then we will see...
Anyone ?
I'm not a dev or anything but I think the main problem is that even if you can encode your keyboard to support emoji, anyone whose phone doesn't support those wouldn't see them properly. So it's not really practical for devs to make the effort to mod one of the default keyboards if most people won't use the feature anyways.
I think this is going to have to be a challenge you'll have to take down on your own if it bothers you that much.

Extra emoji support
I believe the messenger app has an option of supporting additional emoji in the conversations. It's just a matter of checking it. It worked wonders for me, since I text an iPhone friend very often.
Sometimes the option is not there though.
Hope this helps you
I dont see the emotions from my iphone friends sometimes, am gona mod it for the s 2 and many people have that phone, also am the type who uses many emotions so I think am gona mod it .
Thanks for the reply guys

[Q] XPERIA U - Bright themes? / Custom Rom needed?

Hello,
I bought an XPERIA U for my gf, she likes the phone, but as many girls she dislikes the theme/colors of the icons/apps.
The SMS icon is "ok" but when you go in its very sober and dark, and she wants something bright like in iOS, so I browsed the appstore and found SMS GO PRO, which is doing well.. But this app sends spam text messages now and then. So i'd like to find a way to have this standard text messaging app to do bright, by applying another theme?
or do I need to put a custom rom on it? for it to be bright?
If no custom rom is needed, which theme do I need to install (i'm very noob on this for the moment). I get my nexus 7 24th of september than I can play a bit more with android ^^
Thanks in advance

Try Handcent Sms mate
I wouldnt suggest you playing with ROM's just for a "brighter theme"...
Search for ilauncher apk, it resembles the iphone launcher.

Root phone and get themes from /system/vendor folder... Decompile one of them and replace pictures... Compile and copy to /system/vendor... Think this is enought for you. (maybe you will only need open apk with winrar or 7zip and replace pictures in res folder of theme)
BTW. Icons will be the same as in original theme.

Sense 5 emoji's?

Yesterday I was finally eligible for an upgrade so I made a trip down to my local Best Buy and traded my iPhone 4S(which they gave me $220 for) in and got the One. Loving it so far. I can't see myself going back to iOS ever. Lol. But getting to my question, while using my One I received a text from an iPhone that contained an emoji. The One processed the emoji and changed it to a Android style black and white(I'm not sure if this is a sense only thing or if it's android wide) but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get them in my keyboard. Anyone know how of if you can even do this? Thanks in advance.
Long press the bottom left button with the smiley and 12# on it. Brings up emojis

You can down load an emoji pack from the market. I know go sms has one with the go keyboard. May be others also not sure.

I'm fairly certain emoji's are built into 4.2, which every nexus device is running. We're running 4.1, though an update is expected eventually. I wouldn't get so worked up about this lacking feature, android users don't really use emoji's compared to iPhone users. It's gimmicky, annoying, and the fact that you can't see them unless you install emoji's is stupid (which makes native compatibility between android devices nonexistent, besides 4.2) . The desktop web is being flooded with squares.
I know what you speak of, I tried them all and there's some that don't work because were not on 4.2.2 like the smiley face that's sleeping. But 90% do. But if you flash the 4.2.2 emoji keyboard from here youll be good to go, just switch back and forth when needed, just like a Nexus. But yes in Stock AOSP android like a nexus, they are b/w which is a small trade off for having them at all IMO. Also with this keyboard youll be able to use it in any app, like twitter, instagram etc.

emoji icons on cm10.2

i flashed cm10.2 after long time with the original stock samsung rom, and i saw the emoji icons have been changed, instead of faces i have the android robot with emotion and i didnt like it, there is a way to flash another font with other emojis? maybe even the ios emojis
and i want also a keyboard that include emojis, it can be an app or zip that i need to flash.
thanks
You need a KitKat-based ROM for coloured emojis.
Googles keyboard has support for typing emojis.

Thats just the way it is in 4.3 I think, You can try this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stevenschoen.emojiswitcher
Or try a sms app that can use and display coloured emoji's.
Also questions go in the q&a area.
SwiftKey brings the emoji keyboard

As for Ginferbread(2.3) the API is not enough to have such an impressive themes. You can still get many Android 5 themes on CM 11 which are available on Play Store. But, make sure, due to lack of ldpi resources(As many devs already stopped adding ldpi resources to their app) the phone might lag more.
-Thats all.....
