he onscreen buttons take up a ton of space. Is there anyway to make them smaller and transparent? This black bar on bottom takes up way to much room. I know in the past there had been options to edit them under the display settings but I am not seeing such options on any 5.0.2 ROM. (I have tried vanir and liquid smooth)
This is on a Verizon vs985. I am pretty familar with the build.prop if Editting it is a must.

The OP appears to be running a AOSP ROM. Your suggestion only applies to stock based ROMs.

You can modify the framework files to get what you want. At least thats how one manually does it on ICS -> KK. Its not that hard. There are a bunch of tuts online, just google it. Or you chould change the DPI which would make everything smaller. There is probably an option in the ROM you are using. If not its a build.prop edit.
When I had my nexus 5, I was running ultimate dynamic navbar, udn playstore link, to hide and change size of the nav menu bar on the bottom of screen. I believe xposed and/or root is a requirement so double check and see if this was something you were looking for.

does anyone know of a way to run the note in tablet mode in ICS 4.0.4 so all my apps display in 100% full screen?
Not sure if there's a way to do it in system. I know for sure you can do it with most home screen replacements-launchers.

I use APex launcher and it has an option to hide the status bar. Nova has it too.
Iam currently using sslauncher.

Apex settings.
Cosmo D from outer space!
I came to rock the human race!
You have to freeze it. The only free option I have ever seen is an app called "AntTek App Manager". Now when you freeze the statusbar it will keep popping up a FC but to fix this freeze the status bar and after it disappears defrost it and it should still stay hidden til you reboot.
Another vote fo using Apex launcher -- it has the option to autohide the status bar in phone mode (dpi of 214,or higher) .
Now, Tablet Mode (dpi of 213, or lower) is a different story. For that, you'll have to get with the ROM developer to implement a hide button. (Hybrid ROM has this).
I guess what I really want is to run the note in tablet mode so it is 100% full screen (I dont need that black bar at the top of the screen that displays the clock, battery life, cell reception/bars, etc)

Which ROM?
OnlyOne ICS ROM Beta 4*HYFR*for AT&T*Galaxy Note*...
Hopefully there is a mod like this that could preserve the quickpanel
You should go with CM9, AOKP, or The Hybrid if you're looking for a functional tablet mode. OnlyOne isn't gonna cut it...
Will any of those preserve the quickpanel and are those ICS?

Yes, they're all ICS, and I *think* the 15toggle mod works on Hybrid...maybe. I'm not sure whether or not there is a version of it for the others.
Warning: you will lose S-pen functionality with CM9 and AOKP, but not Hybrid.
I suggest you go read as much of the Hybrid's thread as possible. It's slightly more complex than what you may be used to.
Good luck!

Try xposed framework and use the gravity box module should be able to tweak the navigation bar how you want.
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Why don't you want to use gmd?
There's an app called "GMD auto hide soft keys" that hides the bottom software buttons. You then either tap or swipe the bottom of the phone and the buttons appear. You don't use gestures to navigate... You tap on the software keys once they appear. Then when you are done the software buttons dissappear completely.
Or where you looking for fully transparent software buttons that are always showing?

Forgive me if I am wrong, but I believe G2 Xposed is only for stock and stock-based ROMs. The OP is running CM and would probably have a lot more luck with something made for AOSP-based ROMs. I would suggest Gravity Box, it has these functions plus a ton of other tweaks that you can use as you please.

I don't know if there's anything out like this for Xposed (have searched for the past 10 minutes and have found nothing) and my requests to the ROM devs haven't panned out. I would like to have an Xposed module that will allow me to move the navigation buttons to the left or right side of the nav bar. It's been implemented in certain ROMs, so I know it's possible, but I don't know how to make modules, so I hope someone who has some experience could help.
Thanks!
I would like to second that request!
Also how about moving the clock and notifications to the bottom like it was on JB?
Getting this to work as an Xposed module has complications. It should be easy enough to achieve on stock-ish ROMs, but ROMs which have nav bar customisations is harder to achieve considering that there are quite a few ways different ROM approach nav bar customisations.
Thankfully there's Thunderkat, which I'm currently running. But it would be nice fore there to be something out there for the masses who choose a different ROM that it might be compatible with.
I was thinking having the bar on the right side while in landscape so the bar has not moved when changing orientation, like what occurs in mobile phones.
Having a nexus 7 I havent managed to stay on kitkat as I can't stand the mobile phone layout, using PA in tablet mode to have both bars combined, now tablet ui is removed in KK I'm trying to find a rom that has a practical layout for my thumb.
Tried thundercat and it has the option of having navi controls on either side which is great but I cant stop to think that the bar is wasting space as you only need an inch of it, while you have a notification pane that could be on the other side.
I will have to find a way to have the bar like on mobile devices.
I would like this as well. I miss my old Asus TF 'layout ' they had something similar with the notifications on the right side instead of above.
Someone on the Kindle fire was attempting to port TabletUI to KK, but I haven't checked in on development in a while.

I requested the same thing in the xposed request thread and got no love. maybe you should ask there, too. squeaky wheel gets the grease?
Throwing my hat into this request too... I hate the way Android handles tablet UI these days, I really miss having the navigation near my hand when on landscape, but would like to continue using stock android with xposed instead of flashing a ROM, is this viable via Xposed?

Thanks for the heads up! (Although its tabletkat). Installed and works with XGELS and GravityBox with no conflicts. Although it will nullify any tweaks to the navigation bar that you've done with GB.

Hi all,
I find the skin LG put on the G2 to be too inconsistent. The layout is nice and logical, but the skin is all different bits and pieces.
Take the notification toggles and the brightness bar for example. Te color of the slider is blue, the color of the toggle icons is cyan.
The background in the settings menu is white (i hate that), and those toggles in the settings menu are from the '90 (nothing wrong with '90, but we moved past that right?).
So i propose a combined effort into altering the stock LG skin to our liking and post.
To change the toggles:
Locate the lge-res.apk in the framework and decompile it.
go to lge-res\res\drawable-xxhdpi
there you can find the toggles and possibly edit them.
Can someone pinpoint me in the right direction for finding how i can change the background color of the settings menu pretty please?
Kind regards,
Witte

If you use a lower DPI like me (I use 320) on the 5.0 lollipop port by scrubber you've probably noticed the navigation bar buttons are too separated.
Flash the attached zip in recovery to fix this.
Only portrait for now. When I got some spare time I'll fix the landscape layout.

Good work OP. One question though, is it possible to swap the back and recent apps buttons? On 4.4.4 i just used xposed with gravity box but as far as i know xposed doesn't work on lollipop.
Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

And some rather large icons I'd like to decrease in size. Also, how can I add an extra row on the screen to have an extra icon or app? Thanks.
Oh, both of those are dependent on the launcher you're using.
Try this one where you can tweak most of the things: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher
Or this one which is the Google Now Launcher: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.launcher

I know it's a little off topic, but I figured you might be able to give me some advice. I flashed this mod, and decided to restore a CWM nandroid back up. Is it possible to tweak the dpi of Nova Launcher? The icons are too small when I'm on 320 dpi on Nova, but they okay when used in 400 dpi. On the contrary they are pretty decently sized when I'm using Google Search 4.0 + Google Launcher 1.11. I actually started using Google's alternative because of this and also due to the fact that the app drawer employs a white background which increases visibility even when the brightness is very low. I haven't seen this option in Nova yet. I know we can change icon sizes and scale them in Nova settings, but still the sizes and fonts are not proportional to what I would like it to be. Changing grid sizes helps a bit but it doesn't change the icon and font scaling problem.
I did try editing the shared_prefs.xml file from data/data and changed the dpi from 320 to 400 but it seems to reset it everytime the launcher is opened even if I've set the file to read only in properties.
Edit:
I also have another request for you. Can you change the navbar dp to 42 instead of 48 in portrait & landscape? 48 seems bigger than what it should be.
You don't need to tweak the dpi as you can change icon size in Nova
Or maybe that's only for payed users? Check in look & feel and see if you can change icon size

Yes, I used the option to manually resize the icons, but they're still way smaller than what 400dpi looks like.
Even after resizing, the icons are much smaller than what Google now launcher for Lolipop looks like at 320dpi. Only at 400dpi do they look okay.
Also what about the Navbar height? Is there anything we can do about that?
Is this "way smaller"?
Yeah I could make a mod changing the navbar height.
