I can add files to my APK by placing them in the res/raw folder. However, folders in this directory with files of their own do not appear to get packed into the APK file. Is there any way I can add these, or just it only allow one level of files?

locate and open apk as zip file.
browse the folders and find the image file (in drawable-hdpi or drawable-mdpi folders)
delete the image and install apk.
note: some apps won't work if u delete files. u can just replace them with any other image (same resolution)
I have attempted numerous times to change the Online, Offline, Away, and Busy presence files in the Google Talk app. This images are located in the assets folder. Although I replace them, recompile and resign, my modified images do not show. I still see the original images. If I view the contents of the APK, they are there in the assets folder. Am I missing something?

However, I want to know, when you extract APKs, where are the images of the APK located?

- It used to be easier back in the day, you would extract and all the images would just be there.
to get images folder you dont need to use apktool/manager.. use 7zip.. then extract. you get res folder .. all images in there... you find which one you to replace and rename to it, drag n drop to corresponding folder ur renamed one after opening apk in 7zip... no need to sign apk or whatver

Yes, but not all the images are there.. Where are the rest of the images?

Most of the images should be there but if not you will have to either go through all of the lies to find them or you can search for them.

Is this only me or can someone confirm that Messenger and Facebook do not display screenshots when I try send/post image. I see all other folders like WhatsApp etc. but apps do not see screenshot folder and I can't send them.
On Android 12 I have two screenshot folder. One old in the DCIM folder, and a new on the pictures folder.
After a update sometimes permission of folders gets messup.
To fix copy all yours files from misbehaving folder, to a new folder you just create, then delete the misbehaving folder, now take a screenshot the folder must be recreated by system automatic, then place all yours copy files on the new folder.
Then check if app can see it.
