Advanced WiFi Settings - Battery Saving - Sprint LG G3

Under Advanced settings in the WiFi settings menu, there's a checkbox for "Battery saving for Wi-Fi." Anyone have any idea what this actually does? It's separate from disconnecting when the signal is weak or there's no internet available, and I haven't noticed it turning the WiFi off at any time (although I do use Tasker to turn it off when not needed).
Just curious.

[Q] how to keep the wireless on while the screen is off

hi!
I have a sony xperia tablet s and yesterday i got the upgrade to JB
I would like to keep the wireless connection on while my screen tablet is off. I tried the wireless option and i checked "keep the wireless on always" but it doesn't work.
Is there a way to do that?
thanks
Try some of these apps https://play.google.com/store/search?q=wifi+lock&c=apps
Haven't tried them though
Advanced Wifi Lock is the best one out there. Has different settings aswell.

yes! it works even the free version.
Like this i can download file all night long!
advanced wifi lock disables sleep.
sleep policy is disable wifi when sleep is triggered.
sleep is triggered when hitting power button regardless if synching or uploading is going on ignoring sleep prevention mechanic thats build in many apps.
most android devices are build to only put screen off when hit power button leaving sleep on untill not used anymore.
advanced wifi lock is btw huge batery drain you won't notice extended batery life improvements from 4.1.1 if you gonna use advanced wifi lock.

Not true. If you enable the option "disable wifi after period of time" (it isnt named exactly like that), wifi is automatically switched off after 20 mins of afk and the tablet goes in to sleep mode.

wifi won't turn back on then not sync for hours unless turn tablet on and turn on wifi.
and will interfear more with syncing stuff that way then not having advanced wifi lock installed.
no idea whats causing it but i don't have advanced wifi lock turning of screen does't put tablet in sleep anymore.
have no apps running and custom homescreen apex launcher.
wifi has been on for 2 hours non stop
MAC Address Interface Uptime TX Rate RX Rate Signal Noise SNR Signal Quality
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx ath1 2:03:43 150M 6M -46 -95 49 59%
If sleep is being prevented should wake lock detector not show this ?
apearntly google+ was uploading file in background which has ability to prevent sleep, and if sleep is not triggered wifi stay's on.
so guess wifi working fine now as long apps that upload files or sync have ability to prevent sleep.

Wifi "always-on" mode won't drain battery?

Has anyone noticed that when you set the Wifi mode to always-on, the battery drains like if the wifi was on "turn off wifi when screen off" mode?
There is a check box in the wifi settings to optimize battery life when using wifi maybe that is the reason?

Great idea, but we won't know if the signal is back to normal while airplane mode is ON .

Oh ya that's very true, I never thought of that, but then what about Turning Airplane mode ON, for a specific interval, then ON again to check whether the signal is better, if not then turn on Airplane Mode ON again... is that possible? Or maybe instead of saving battery it might end up draining it more?

Yep, it may drain more power that way and it may keep you unavailable on some periods when the signal is normal.
This app is extremely useful especially with the two whitelists. One thing I notice is when I have my wifi manually turned off already this module turns it back on each time I turn my screen back on.

Yeah i know, but why you would like to use the WiFi feature if you turn it off manually, we can remember the previous state of the WiFi while screen is going Off, but the delay that WiFi service may take to get fully activated may lead to wrong state report doing a fast screen Off/ON/Off.
Let take an example: if i have WiFi activated, and did a fast screen ON/Off, the saved state of WiFi may switch to deactivated because of the delay.
Any ideas are welcome.
When away from wifi I usually try to keep it turned off. The update seems to work perfectly for me now. Everything disconnects and reconnects lightning fast. Thanks @wanam you are the one of if not the best dev.

Thanks for the great module
It would be nice if you add an option for cheaking network activity(30 seconds for exemple)and if no network traffic is detected then turning off 3g or wifi.
See green power on playstore for more information
Searching for a way to activate 2g when connected to Wifi. Possible to implement it?

Android does that automatically by itself. Look at Settings > About phone > Status > mobile network state when Wifi is connected.
Not on mine device. Lg g3. Checked recently while connected to Wifi

I would recommend implement this option as well since it well check network activity with a customized threshold before disconnecting 3G
Thanks again for a useful module! Have used it and whatsapp messages don't come through. Just add that to the white list to make them work?
It is not stable on LG G2 mini, It reboots when the screen is off
Sounds like a good idea in theory, but I have found that switching to 2g when the screen is off with similar mods (like Gravity Box's Smart Radio) can make for an unpleasant call experience. I much prefer to just disable LTE when the screen is off and stay on 3g as the call quality on the 3g network is much better on the 3g network than on the 2g network, at least on T-Mobile US, anyway. I have found it to be of little difference in battery life between 3g and 2g networks, but I guess for some this may be useful.

Android Profiles app that supports Priority Interruptions?

I've been using an app called Quick Profiles to switch between different settings/volume profiles (Campus to turn on Wifi, go into vibrate mode, etc). It hasn't been updated in a long time and I'm looking for something a little more modern.
One feature I really want to have is the ability to enable/disable Priority Interruptions mode. I'd like to be able to select the Campus profile and have it enable Priority Interruptions, then select the Car profile and have it disabled (while also changing volumes, disabling WiFi, and turning on Bluetooth).
I don't want anything fancy that will track location; that sort of option is fine as long as it can be disabled and doesn't drain the battery.
Does anyone know of an app that can do this?
Whoops, sorry for posting in the wrong forum.

Wlan off - still uses battery?

Hi,
some time ago I recognized in the detailed battery stats (settings - energy option - battery usage - detailed history) that the orange bar of the WLAN is constantly shown, what would mean Wlan is on all the time - what its not.
now I had some time for testing:
put phone for some minutes in fly mode
than turned fly mode off (mobile data on, Wlan off) waited a while
for that time in the stats, as expected, no activity for Wlan
than turned on Wlan for a short time and turned it off again. waited again for a while
in the stats there is Wlan shown as active/using battery from the point of turning it on and off again till now .. :silly:
Now is the question: is it just an error in the battery stats or is it really still active in the background ..
one way to find out would be, to check the battery life (with similar usage of the phone) with all 4 possible settings, each time a circle off full charge to empty:
1. WLAN off all the time
2. WLAN on all the time
3. WLAN on and off half the time
4. WLAN on and off half the time (putting phone shortly in fly mode after turning WLAN off)
that would be quite time-consuming and still not very accurate?!
battery stat apps seem to need root, so I cant use them

Isn't it normal for it to be on? And I don't think there is a significant effect on the battery as long as auto sync is off.

what you mean with " normal .. to be on?" .. if I switch WLAN off, I want it to be off ..
it seems it doesnt do anything in the network anymore, but for the battery stats it looks like its still using battery - if this is significant or not, we have to find out .. in my mind, its still not logical or normal, but maybe only a bug in the battery stats system-app

excellent :good:
in the advanced settings the option: "scanning always available - Let Googles's location service and other apps scan for networks, even when Wi-Fi is off" .. disabling, shuts down wlan completely :good:
its so annoying, all the standard useless settings to be enabled ..
why, in gods name, would I want these services to scan for networks if I switch wifi off, I dont get it ..
big thx @bookworth
