It sounds like you have a program open that is trying to pull your location like Google maps. Download advanced task killer from the market and kill all your open applications. The app is free.
don't need

You actually don't need a separate task killer app. If you open the APP tab, (the one that shows all of the apps), there is a tab there that says "Running Tabs." Then you will see another tab that says "stop all running applications".
Additionally go into your settings and you will find a section to turn on/off the GPS.
and there is always factory reset to fall back on !

Good tip. Since I bought my tab I have used some of the same apps from my phone and just added them over. I'll have to check it out when I get home.

I believe the only way to have that flashing is by having the GPS activated in Settings --> Location & Security. Are you actually using GPS on your tablet?
If not, just go to Settings --> Location & security and turn off all 3 of the checkboxes located there. They are:
Use wireless networks
Use GPS Satellites
Use location for google search
I personally never leave those on myself. Try deactivating those and you should never see that problem again.
Thank you guys for the solutions, Problem solved.
It used to be the market would separate apps that were approved for auto update from those that had disabled auto update set. One could then simply hit the Update All (for the group) button and it would update ONLY the apps that were auto update enabled. Over the past few months Play Store has changed their behavior in that it no longer separates the apps and will only enable auto updates for everything or nothing.
How can I hide or otherwise prevent these few apps that I do not want to update from being in the play store update list? As it is now, I have to selectively update each individual app from the list, skipping the few apps I do not want updated.
Thanks,
Currently on a Samsung GS3, rooted, stock.

did you ever find a solution to this ?
Actually yes,... I think. I'd suggest making backups of your apps (TitaniumBU or other).
Open Play Store
Menu: Settings
Enable Auto Updates (Mine is set to when on WIFI only)
Go back to main Play store page.
Menu: My Apps
Under Installed, locate any app that you wish to change and select it, this opens the App Details page.
Menu: Auto-update untick the checkbox.
Still trying to confirm this condition: Seems that if you manually update an app that is not set to auto-update, it will possibly reset the auto-update flag to 'Enabled'

Hi!
Sorry to bump this old thread, but I am kind of fighting with a similar issue, my problem is,
the apps I don't want to auto update are google apps(Keep/Youtube/Gtalk), which are replaced
by black counterparts from Team Blackout(with exception of Gtalk, I just don't like Hangouts)
and of course there is no "disable auto update" option with google system apps.
As of this date, I can see no valid option for selectively update the installed app catalogue, this
might be a decision from Google's part to push out the obsolete apps by force, which is understandable,
but I think there should be an option to have this feature.
Now at this point I am updating the apps manually app by app, and of course
with about 200 plus apps installed a complete PITA.
Thanks for any answers at this point, and this is my first post here btw, please be kind.

I found this thread looking for a way to selectively disable auto-update. I found that by going to the Play Store on my phone (under settings, I already had auto update on wifi only enabled), selecting apps/my apps, then choosing a specific app, then touching the soft menu key brings up a checkbox for auto -update. Uncheck to disable auto-update. This works for Google apps too like Hangouts, GMail (2 apps that I checked), etc.

Up until a day or two ago, I found the same thing - I could hit the soft menu button in the Play Store, and there would be an option to check or uncheck Auto-Update for that specific App. But I just checked again, wanting to take advantage of that, and it didn't come up any more.
Can anybody confirm that this functionality is gone again?
I'm on Verizon, with a Stock 4.2.2 Galaxy Note 3, non-rooted.
Thanks.
ETA: I rebooted my phone, and the ability to check/uncheck auto-update with the soft menu is back. Strange, but at least it's there again.
Disable updates for specific app - COMPLETLY
Hello,
I found this thread - title says it all.
I have Google Maps 7.5.0 installed, therefore it's listed in "Updates" all the time.
I do not have automatic updates activated, but i like to use the "update all" button in the play store.
Is there a way to disable the listing of Google Maps in "Updates"?
Thanks!

I don't think you can disable that display in Google Play. It knows what apps you have and will let you know when there is an update for them, whether you want to know or not! The main thing is that you can generally decide whether you want the update or not. I prefer it that way. It gives me a choice.

Yes, I like that it's reminding me of updates.
But the new version of the app is not working for me and if I hit the updated-all button on accident, I have to reverse the app again. Happens too often. Would be awesome to have a checkbox á la "Don't display updates for this app"

Yes, it did the trick for a while - and the app (Facebook app - the old version which did not have the annoying bugs) I detached from the market vanished from the available updates list. But the very next morning it was back in the same list :crying::crying:
That's right, it only works for a couple of hours. Haven't found another solution

Titanium backup only seems to work for a few hours or until the app is run again before showing up in the play store again.
Are there any other methods besides APKtool to resign?

I think I have found the simple answer:
1. In Google Play Store settings enable all applications to update automatically on wi-fi.
2. Next, individually click each of the apps you do not want to update automatically. On each app's update page, there is a menu button on the top right corner. Click it and deselect auto update for that app.
Now all these disabled apps will not auto update along with the other generally permitted apps.
Cheers.
Requires Xposed Framework!
This module forces Google Search to show over a lockscreen. This does not include GEL since that's a security risk in a way (use App Settings if you believe otherwise).
This module also fixes Google Voice Search failing when launched while the screen is off (using the Pebble smartwatch in my case).
Compatibility:
Jelly Bean or any other means of having the new Google Search.

The mod is open source: https://github.com/MohammadAG/Xposed-Secure-Google-Search

Yes, Xposed reports an error of incorrect name after hitting Download. You are missing the "r" in the word "search" for the package name.

Just gave that a shot! The issue with starting is still persisting though. I have to open google search once (It'll play both the starting recording sound and then immediately after the recording cancel sound), then press back (App is unresponsive) and then open it again and it works as intended.

Yeah, I was aiming to fix that (and I have, but I guess it's a timing issue).
Does it happen when you launch Google Search with the screen off or on the lockscreen? I only handle it for the former since that's when it happens for me.
I tried with no luck getting this work using tasker to launch the voice activity when i plugged in my charger over my pattern lock screen. am I missing something?
EDIT: Missed the part about xposed app settings needed. Problem solved thanks!!
This is working pretty good for me.
I am waking the device using Secure Settings and then launching Google Search.
Would it be possible create another module similar to this but for Google Maps?

I cannot get this working, using nexus 5 on stock 4.4.2 rooted, I installed, activated in Xposed and reboot. I have app settings installed, am I supposed to put "show when locked" on for the secure google voice search app or on the actual google search app? I assume if I put on the actual google search app the whole launcher will show on the lockscreen which I do not really want for obvious reasons. Please help!

I'll second this. Nexus 4.4.2. Enabled in xposed, App Setting has Google Search show when locked. Rebooted.
I'm launching voice search via the DashClock widget on my secure lockscreen - but everytime I press it, I'm still prompted for my PIN. I have to be missing something simple. Any help or direction pretty please?

I read the first post again and I think I misintepreted what it meant the first time I read it. It says it does not include GEL, I thought that meant it does not include GEL meaning it will not install GEL (google experience launcher). I think it means it does not work if your phone uses GEL (which the Nexus 5 does) as it would put the entire launcher on the lockscreen. Seems we cannot use on Nexus 5 or any other device that has the GEL installed. Too bad :crying:

Ah. Thanks. I interpreted it as it would not work if GEL was your launcher. Since I use an alternative (Nova), I was hopeful. Looks like the integration into GEL is too deep on the Nexus 5 so this tweak is out. Too bad. Would love to have this. Thanks for the reply.

Nothing would show up on your lockscreen just by installing this, its a module for Xposed that allows Google Search to open while your screen is locked, without having to unlock it first.
I'm trying to use this on a Galaxy S3 to have Voice Search behave the same as the S-Voice defaults and open through the lockscreen on home button double-tap.
It will open Voice Search through the lockscreen, but the mic doesnt stay on to listen for your input. Any suggestions?
I've also tried to figure out a way in Tasker but cant get it right.
I know there's an app called "Home2Shortcut"...but thats not a very elegant workaround.
I am looking for a way to use it with the s-view cover. I managed to set up Google Now and get rid of s-voice. But now it will activate Google Now and after a couple seconds I lose connection, because s-view cover has a very short time out and that's not changeable..

Same here. Stopped working. Whenever I use the headset button at the lockscreen, it goes "please unlock the device"

Not sure if this will help, but depending on the ROM you have installed (ie Lineage, I couldn't get google voice to listen and follow instructions from any screen. On Eragon however (which I have on my phone) you have the option to use "OK Google" from any screen (and Voice lock can be used as well) & the Google voice menu is different in Eragon compared to Lineage. In Eragon - its under settings >> Google >> Voice
From what I saw in Lineage its kinda under Settings >> Google >> Search (and I saw a voice menu but it doesn't allow voice commands from anywhere on the phone, just within Google Now from what I worked out).. it was pretty confusing to me, but i guess each ROM has different google gapps etc..
But Eragon (for me anyway) didn't do this by default, what I did was install the Google Now Lanucher and use it maybe once, then Installed my usual launcher Nova Launcher Prime and I can use Ok Google commands anywhere on the phone, even at lockscreen, as long as screen is on , so you can unlock the phone with your voice if that's your thing.
I know the Google assistant is the new kinda Google Voice and I ain't to sure of the changes between them both if I'm honest. From what I have heard you can get a "light taster" of Google assistant in the Google Allo app (although I have not tried this). But I can use Google Voice anywhere on my phone with Eragon using the OK Google command, (infact I use it ALL the time in my car - only time i use it as its handy for making calls / texts especially combined with Drivemode app) (& no pressing of speech button) providing you install Google Now and then use your preferred launcher. Obvioulsy as its always listening I guess it will use more battery, but as I only use in car with charger, its cool for me. Anyway, hope it helps you somewhat

I couldn't get google assistant on Lineage at all I'm afraid (see my post above) , under Settings >> Google >> Search >> Voice on Eragon I get full functionality - unfortunately in Lineage it only has minimum Google Voice options (like you cant use voice from anywhere on handset - incl lock-screen)
There maybe a work around, (maybe ask in Lineage thread) but couldn't get it to work, I guess you can try and install Google Now Launcher (then just continue using your usual launcher) and see if it adds any further functionality - not an ideal solution as you have an extra launcher using resources in background, but worth a go
btw, there is another thread on the Elephone Forum which may help others regarding this: http://bbs.elephone.hk/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=13230&fromuid=90419#.WMqlQTuLSUk

I am having a problem with Google assistant. I have it turned off, but I notice that at times when I am scrolling down on my M5 it will pop up with assistant and want me to turn on. It's annoying, as I am not interested in using assistant. So is there a way of stopping this or even better eliminating assistant? By the way I do not have this issue with my phone (Oneplus 5).
I outright deleted Google Assistant. I forget the name and folder of the apk.
If you are not rooted, you might or might not be able to disable or delete the app via adb.
(edit - the apk is Velvet.apk, I think it was in the priv-app folder)

Not so much a solution as a suggestion - the normal trigger is the home button on the navigation bar. You could disable the on screen one, and use the fingerprint sensor navigation system? Might cut down the number of times you trigger it?
Thanks for your replies. As my tablet is not rooted, I don't think I can delete assistant (would be great if I could).
As to the home screen will check into that.
Thanks again
