[Q] BusyBox Installing and Uninstalling - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I'm thinking of installing BusyBox on my Nexus 7. The device is rooted but before I go through with it I have a few questions about it.
Is it safe to install without having a NANDroid backup or custom recovery?
Will it be possible to uninstall without wiping the device?
What is the best app to install it? Stephen (Stericson)'s BusyBox or JRummy Ppa Inc.'s BusyBox installer?
Thanks.

Backup is important for your data. If there is a problem your tablet will be stuck on boot loop and you have to wipe data. Doing this operation will be a little risky without a backup
If you have a backup your system partition you can wipe system and restore previous system and busybox will gone.

Thanks. Will it be the same for uninstalling? Also, if I decide to temporarily unroot to install an OTA update, will I need to remove this and reinstall after re-rooting?

Yes Its kind of manuel unistalling. I dont know exactly but OTA works only with stock ROM. Means you need to flash stock rom and reinstall it if you want it in update

Oh and also, If I do Install BusyBox how do I remove it?
Stericson's App requires it's Pro version to remove it and I don't have a Credit/Debit Card and BusyBox installer has less users compared to Stericson's (and that makes me wonder why)
Can I just erase it from /system/xbin with a File Manager? If not, how should I remove it other than restoring from a Backup of Factory Resetting.

[Q] updating rooted phone

Hello All,
Me being a noob, I wanted to know what happen when I update a rooted phone. Am I going to keep all the programs and settings that I have? or everything is going to get erased and its going to be like I got a new phone and need to reinstall all the programs and settings? Or that everything is going to be kept, but will not work until the new update can be rooted, and when it is re-rooted, everything is going to be back to normal? I was thinking about the effectiveness of using the titanium backup if I'm going to update the phone and that the program needs root permission to work. Thanks for the help!
make a backup?
re-root.
What should i use to.make backup?? Titanium backup? But i thought that program needs root to work
use default program to backup, ''backup and restore''
oh no... i uninstalled that..... anyways I can get it back?
2.1 System Apps/Framwork | 2.0.2.A.0.24 | - In Case You've Deleted Them...
I'm kind of a super noob to this phone ( and the smart phone technology).... so can you please elaborate on your previous reply? Thanks =]
if you have a rooted phone already just install Xrecovery by Z, search for it. that way you can just reboot when you see sony ericsson white letters, hit back button 11 times it will give you a bootscreen where you can do a backup. After you backup then you can update to a newer version if you choose too. once you update to a newer version, you then go back to xrecovery choose backup restore then advanced restore then select just the data folder it should restore all your apps etc..

Thanks for this! I just backup my phone using this method! I did a backup using Titanium but this one is an extra precaution. Thanks!
thank you sir! Will try it this weekend!
I just installed xRecovery Installer... and when I go into the xrecovery installer icon, and press install xrecovery, my phone asked for root rights, and after I give permission nothing happened... Is there going to be a new icon for xrecovery or its just a program that runs in the background and will not add an extra icon? Thanks!

When I update to a new version, my Xrecovery wont work until I root that new version too right? So the procedure should be update -> root -> then restore? I dont need to reinstall xrecovery or something right?? Thanks

Will re-installing xrecovery after the update have any effect on the backup I did prior to the update? Wont the update delete my previous xrecovery and hence my backups? Sorry to bombard with questions, but I just need to make sure that I know what I'm doing. Thanks!

No, it will not have an affect on your backup because that is stored in the Sdcard. So you should be good.

[Q] How to rollback CPU overclocking

Hello all,
I can't find in the forum a way of setting back the CPU speed to one that does not boot the phone. Is there a way of booting like in single user or safe mode to change the parameter back to 768Mhz ? I am avoiding to reflash the phone.
thanks

if you can access to recovery and were using an app to overclock you can mount /system and delete the app
if not you should have kept a backup to safely factory reset
which rom are you using?

Thanks! I am using MiniCM7-2.1.4 so it's part of the system settings. I tried now to re-flash without wiping off the directories and did not work. I could restore my last backup but it was done before upgrading the ROM so I am not sure it's usable.

the backup was a miniCM7-2.1.X version?
if yes, restore the backup and immediately flash the rom
(if not, you should have read that the first thing after upgrading is to perform a backup [one before and one after] to rollback safely )

Yes! That is exactly what I did.. restored a recent backup 'before flashing from CM7.1' and flashed the MiniCM7-2.4.1 right away and seems to be all cool for now.
Thanks for the tips

from which version was the backup?
if you have any performance problem you'll need at least format sd and then reflash (after copying your files and not .android_secure and so on)

Need more info about Root

Hi all
I have had my Galaxy S II for about a year now, and i am thinking about rooting it and installing Cyanogenmod on it, but i need some info about the proccess: First of all: What happens when you root your phone? Is you data/apps deleted or is it safe?
Second: What about when i flash Cyanogenmod? Is my data/apps safe there or do i need to redownload the apps and backup my stuff?
Third: If i root my phone and do not flash a new ROM, will it be just as hard for me to update the firmware as on a jailbroken iOS device?
And lastly: I have heard about Titanium Backup, what does it backup? The OS, the apps and/or the data? These are the questions i need answered before starting the rooting proccess
Thanks in advance

The process is a little different depending on the device but basicly a super user binary and SU app are installed on your device, this will not (in most cases) effect your data or apps.
When you flash a new ROM like cyanogenmod you will loss your data and apps yes so you will need to redownload/reinstall them backing up using a app like titanium backup is recommended.
In most cases if you root your phone it will not be any harder to update the firmware however after the update you will loss root, and often the hacks used to install SU and a custom recovery get fixed in newer updates, so its normally recommend not to update through the official process but to flash a modified version of the update normally found in the XDA forum for the device, these modified versions will have super user etc preinstalled so they cant be lost during the update.
Titanium Backup backs up your apps and there data (so when you reinstalled them with Titanium Backup it will be just how you left it)

if your upgrading the same ROM to a newer version for example if you where on CM9 version 1.0 and updated to 1.1 you will likely not have to no, however the developer will post if the update requires a wipe, as some large updates do need a clean install.
If your going from one ROM to another than you will need to wipe yes

Trying to install busybox crashes phone, cant install!

Hey All-
just have to say this phone is awesome.
It is rooted, and I have titanium backup and a few other things installed without any bumps.
but when u try to install busybox, it either days "busybox installation failed",.or it crashes.
I have tried busybox installer with the same results.
Help!!
How is Titanium Backup working if you don't have busybox installed? I thought busybox is needed in order for TB to work properly.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
i am curious too. My titanium works, when i try normal or smart install of busy box it either fails or the phone reboots.
When you flash supersu on recovery, do you still need busybox?
What does it do?
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
If I remember I couldn't install busybox from the play store app. I had to install it via recovery.. I got the .zip from the android general forums. After that it worked fine.

I had this exact same problem with stock ROM and unlocked with root. Cedric at Android Tuner reviewed my catlogs and its something to do with CPU3. I flashed [ROM][4/27] - AT&T Stock Root 1.26.502.10 -| Flashes boot.img | System RW capable! and haven't had a problem since. Hope this helps.
I was also having this problem as well as trying to install Secure Settings Helper. Both wouldn't install even though I had root. I discovered from another thread it is the kernel. You need a kernel that will allow you to actually right to the system dir. Once I flashed a new kernel, both busybox and secure settings helper installed just fine.

Ever get this sorted?
I just got my phone yesterday and having the same issue. Though I'm on international HTC One.
I read somewhere else, that BusyBox could not be installed because of S-ON, what I did is: flash BusyBox.zip directly from TRWP, which works perfectly!

[GUIDE] How to root samsung galaxy A9pro 2016 oreo firmware

Hi Dude , It is a good news that samung galaxy A9 pro 2016 get android oreo update. Oreo come with some new feature in samsung experience 9. Here is a guide how to root it.
*Dont forget to enable OEM unlock in developer mode.*
---> Original post for nougat and mashmellow by ashyx
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sa...wrp-3-0-2-1-samsung-galaxy-a9-pro-sm-t3426701
Firstly we need twrp, go and get it from
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767135545
Simply flash it via odin.
Then root it by flash latest magisk from
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
After that you will see that twrp cant mount data. You have to format data (go to wipe - format data - type yes)(It will erase all your data SO BACK-UP) and flash the boot image patcher to prevent device from re-encrypt every boot
This is the working boot image patcher by zackptg5.
Download DM-VERITY AND FORCE ENCRYPTION DISABLER
And you will get file name
Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_09.02.2018.zip
Download link below.
http://zackptg5.com/android.php#disverfe
And now simply reboot and enjoy
IF IT HELP YOU GUYS , PLEASE HIT THANKS BUTTON , THIS IS MY FIRST THREAD AND THANKS WILL BE ENCOURAGING TO ME.
Thanks to @ashyx for twrp , @Zackptg5 for Universal DM-Verity, ForceEncrypt, Disk Quota Disablers and @topjohnwu for magisk.
boot image patcher by zackptg5
Still confuse on this, which file to download and flash?
Disable_Dm-Verity-09.02.2018.zip or Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_09.02.2018.zip
Firstly, I couldn't understand that...
"Simply flash it via odin.
*But no verity no encrypt _ashyx is not working anymore. So dont flash it.*"
Testing and everything works fine but problem with titanium backup. TB read my phone not rooted.

I think you choose completly uninstall magisk through an app and install the latest magisk beta v17.3 step by step in the guide. The ploblem should solved I guess it was a ploblem while you install magisk.
Why it's not like olds? Using one click root or just with TWRP? Maybe we should wait a little bit more. Cause it seems risky to me. Also, need to erase all datas etc.
