Good Chinese Phone $250 budget - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I am looking for a good chinese phone because some of them from what I see are good. I was looking at the yet to be released Elephone P5000 but wasn't sure if it was really good. It looks like it from the soecs though and the design is nice.

Is there no perfect smartphone on the market?

Hi, I have been looking for a new android device for a couple of weeks now, been reading all sorts of articles about mobile congresses. It seems to me that no producer wants to build the perfect smartphone (for me)... Every new device has some major flaw that makes it unusable for me.
For example:
Nexus 4: Wow, great hardware, great screen! For that price? Nice deal! But wait... no SDcard slot? Small storage? Bad camera? Meh.
LG Optimus4X: Well yeah, great hardware too, but after the Optimus2X I'll NEVER buy LG again. Their software support is the worst.
Galaxy S3/S4: This may be a device that some consider perfect, but for me the design is a turn-off. I know, this is highly subjective, but the rounded edges and all-plastic look is so 2010.
Xperia Z: When this was announced I was very excited and wanted to buy one right at the release... Nice hardware, supposedly awesome camera, and above all, waterproof. But the first reviews revealed an average camera and a horrible screen.
HTC One: Top-notch hardware, revolutionary camera, alu unibody, big storage despite no SDcard... What could go wrong with this one? Again, reviews soon revealed the camera is not as good as advertised, and the battery life is poor.
All I need is state-of-the-art hardware in a nice case for a reasonable price. I could't care less about the stock ROM since I am addicted to flasing the latest custom ROMs, that means however that the phone should have decent support at xda.
Come on. I WANT to buy a new phone, why do you make it so hard for me? I cannot bear buying a device where I know beforehand that it has some big flaws that are going to annoy me for as long as I use it. I guess I just have to keep on using my old Nexus S until Google hopefully announces the XPhone in May.
I Totally agree with you on the Samsung's... Their supposed high quality "polycarbonate" - Just a fancy name for PLASTIC if you ask me... Quite a predicament... I personally own an HTC One, while the camera is DEFINITELY not as good as advertised, the quility is similar to the Galaxy S3... And as for battery life... It lasts longer than the S3, One X, HD2, Desire X and iPhone 5 (Just a few examples).. Battery life is actually quite good... Just my opinion... But you are right... There is no perfect smartphone at the moment... You just have to decide in which areas you are willing to sacrifice...
Good Luck...
Is it that damn hard to make good phone nowadays?
I do remember few models which are STILL awesome, though hardware is dated.
Every new model on market is flawed, as OP stated either it's missing some component(WHY?!) or is not functional.
I own HD2 and sometimes I envy quad-cores, but damn, my phone got everything.

Go away, troll somewhere else. Or add something valuable to this thread.
Anyway, there is some hope on the horizon, with new Intel based phones. Lenovo K900 is one of them, looks nice.

[Q] Should i buy the alpha today

Hello, i have read a lot good things about this device mainly i like it because of the size and build. Im looking for a device under 5 inches.
So based on the fact that samsung has discontinued this device is it still worth to buy it today?
You can get it around 300 euro so its a good price tag, the next alternative i can go is sony z3 compact.
thanks for your advice
best phone ever ... the best ............................................. 54000 antutu score more than htc one m9 or lg gflex 2
It's worth it imo, I have the device for like a month and it's performing incredibly good, love the cameras quality!

I fully recomend you this phone. It's lightning fast, overall experience is great - outperforms other flagships and in my opinion looks amazing. Only drawback could be the battery, but if it will be a problem for you there is extended battery availible. Also there is not much development for it, but roms that exist are really good. Im sure it won't dissapoint you
Another user of the phone here that would suggest you buy it.

I say go for it. Battery is not much of an issue for me. I'm a medium/moderate user. I have the att model. Great size, portable, camera is good and specs is way sufficient. My only complaint, as well as many others with the att variant, there is no root available yet or ever.

If you don't mind AMOLED burn in...weak battery...go for it...

The Z4 tablet still a great choice?

Guys,
I sent the Pixel C back. It died in 2 days. I was looking at the Sony Z4 tab along with the google one. Now I am looking back at it. Is that Sony Z4 tablet still a fantastic tablet? Issues? Just looking for overall comments before I look to find one to buy..I dont see them for sale much right now so I find it might be hard to get one anyway. But thought I would ask before I started looking..
Well I was in the same boat as you. I recently purchased the Nexus 9 lte tablet but wasn't happy with it due to the poor construction and some light bleed issues in the screen so I decided to look for this Z4 in Amazon and got it for $589.00 Free shipping and no Tax. Man best choice I've ever made! Really well build table, super thin, great speakers and water proof. Doesn't have many development support or Roms support but you can root it, install Xposed, debloat it and live with it.....oh and great battery life. Compatible with T-mobile and At&t LTE even it says 4G.
Yes is still a great option almost a year after of his released.

My topic My Z4 Tablet Pros and Cons gives some of my and other's thoughts that are still relevant for the most part.
Also, the tablet flies on Marshmallow. I'm still super happy with my choice.
Does anyone think they might come out with a replacement for it anytime soon?

The problem with android tablets is that they do not sell well. That causes OEMs to only release mid to low end tablets perpetuating the situation. It's a sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Instead of making their tablets better so that they can sell better, they make them worse so they sell even worse than before.
That lets (as a result) old tablets to still be excellent. For example my Note Tablet is the best pen-based tablet to this day (maybe ipad pro 9.7 will change that), portable, unlike the 12inch behemoths and awesome functionality coming out of the pen.
Similarly Xperia Z4 remains even after a year of its release one of the best if not *the* best tablet, period. It's the lightest 10 incher ever created by far, making it the only choice for heavy readers. After MarshMallow some of the best battery lives in the industry, excellent screen and the lack of Roms can be fixed by xposed (which pretty much has *all* the features of custom roms).
Still whilst my wife has one, I won't buy one for myself because I don't want to support Sony's ridiculous DRM-Warranty policy. If that doesn't bother you, I don't think you can go wrong with this tablet, I'm hard pressed to find anything better (maybe ipad pro if you don't mind jailbreaking).

Excellent point.

Which one should I keep, LG G4 or P9000?

I know this is a weird topic, the reason for it is that my brother in law wants a new phone, my personal one is a LG G4 and just ordered the P9000, which I planned to give it to him, but now seeing reviews and Dev support on this device, I'm actually thinking of keeping the P9000 and give my G4 to him.
Reasons for this, well I'm a bit bored of the G4, it is indeed a flagship phone and with the leather back, feels awesome in the hand, but the version I have is the H815TR, which is not supported for unlocking the bootloader, now seeing the Dev on the P9000, a relative new phone with already a couple of custom ROMs for it, it really made doubt which one to keep, I miss playing with custom ROMs and the P9000 seems to be heading in the right direction.
They both seem to perform just fine (not a mobile gamer ), so I would like to hear your opinion guys, on the P9000, as I have to decide quick which one to keep (P9000 on the way, don't have it yet), the G4, I really like the camera, screen and in-hand feel, how's the P9000 in these regards?
It would be interesting knowing your thought on this =)

Lol, depends what you want from a phone ... .
The P9000 is a lovely phone with a truly beautiful screen (in some ways better than my S7's), good form factor and ample speed for most. The recent Elephone updates have solved many issues (and every phone has them) so even if you don't go custom Rom's (which as far as I know are all based on the same kernel anyway) it is a pleasure to use.
Where it mostly falls down is the camera and sound through headphones. They are both average and what you'd expect for the price but no more. I would hardly knock elephone for it though. Something has to give otherwise there would be no flagship phones. Also, NFC is currently not supported by google for the P9000 so you won't be able to take advantage of this feature until this changes, if it ever will.
Your LG will likely trump the P9000 on those but whether it is nicer to use everyday ... only you can decide.
For what its worth, Elephones interface is close to stock Android and there is hardly any bloatware on the phone.
Like I said, its a pleasure to use and I would recommend it to anyone on a budget.
Is it as good as a S7 ... ? No, but you could hardly expect that for the money.
Had a Nexus4, have the P9000 for about 2mnds and very pleased with it. The updates still coming and bringing good improvements. Like the almost stock rom. Camera good enough for daily pictures. Easy to root and flash.

P9000 all the way,it's a great phone
To be honest, I would save a little bit more and purchase a One plus 3. You get flagship performance with relatively few compromises for not much more. I take nothing away from the p9000. If this is how far your budget stretches you'll be happy.

Newbie questions.

Hello guys
Sorry for disturb as I had to do this..
I really like this phone and im looking to buy it. I see mixed reviews about the screen and camera.. can you clarify things up to me? Thanks..
Coming from galaxy s6..
Also how is LG's software?
Lastly. Can someone post a link to the bands of the models. Right now im looking at V300S which is the v30 plus for like 900$. Good deal ?
This write-up on Forbes yesterday is a pretty good summary of the mixed reviews you're seeing right now:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/bensin...is-as-underrated-as-the-iphone-x-is-overrated
It's a great phone. I'd agree it's not perfect, and also there is some questionable QC on LG's part, but as long as you buy from a reputable retailer with an exchange policy, you'll be in good shape.
As for LG's software, I kept their stuff I like (knock on, knock off, always-on display, etc.), but dropped Nova Launcher on top and it feels much like relatively stock Andorid that I had on my Motorola Droid Turbo and my wife's Pixel. The LG skin is just not a factor. The camera has been great for my uses, and outstanding specifically with respect to the wide angle lens.
^^ + 1
Only difference, I use the stock launcher.
Lots of settings to customize to you liking.
