[Q] How to downgrade firmware to root? - Xperia Z2 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I unlocked the bootloader following Sony's tutorial and now im just stuck on how to root it. From what i can tell 23.0.1.A.4.30 isn't rootable, am I able to downgrade my firmware then root?
Sorry, only just got the Tab

I'm in the same boat.
Need root for this latest firmware, preferably without having to unlock the bootloader.

I've managed to do it. It was quite straight forward in the end.
You need to flash a 4.4.2 FTF file with Flashtool, then root that with EasyRoot and install DualRecovery. Then you can flash the latest 4.4.4 pre-rooted zip and voila! :good:

*EDIT* found what I needed in kulvertti's thread
"Just received my new Xperia Z2 today. It comes with 4.4.4 already (23.0.1.A.4.30)...can you please post link to download the earlier 4.4.2 FTF file? I can't find it on Sony's site. Thanks! :good:"

Is there an optimal ftf for running cm11/12. Also, what is the best way to find out what firmware you are running? Is it displayed somewhere?

To find out your firmware, go to Settings, About Tablet, then scroll down to your "Build number"....this is your firmware version. Don't know the answer to your first question, since I'm on STOCK (rooted) and not CM. sorry....

Can you link me to the stuff you used? I've tried searching for a FTF but I cant find any for mine, which is the SGP512. Can I just flash a SGP511 since they're both WiFi?
Thanks

I guess root is only available for .63, .67 and .73

Why don't you upgrade to one of the newer frimwares then?
Just flash doom stock kernel,it has root and recovey.
You can find it in dev section.

Do you not get a software update notification if you have it check for updates under settings.
You can always flash an ftf for your specific region with what ever version you want.

Sony Xperia S Build 6.0.A.3.62
i have the build 6.0.A.3.62 with android 2.3 gingerbread. i have unlocked the bootloader but don't know how to test if it is unlocked or something else is still required. after unlocking the bootloader, when i powered up the phone, it was like i just bought the phone. it gave me those 9 steps to follow in order to setup internet connection, google account sync, etc. so how do I know if bootloader is unlocked on this phone?
now I'm dying here to root the phone lol. its been 20 hours i've been messing with the phone. right in this thread pratyush suggested to download the flashtool. but when i goto the flashtool website to download the latest version, the link is broken. file not found.
so i'm just wondering if someone can give step-by-step instructions for the build 6.0.A.3.62 and help me to root this device please. would appreciate your help a lot.
thanks for the help ppl ..

the latest one for my phone is 6.1.A.0.452 but all i wish to know, will it be easier to root the phone with 452 build? will i have to unlock the bootloader again after updating my phone to ics? i'm really a newbie and stupid when it comes to playing with electronic devices. but i can follow instructions accurately. sony gives a warning while upgrading that i wont be able to go back to 2.3 if i upgraded to ics. so all i wish to know, will it be easier to root the phone with present software build 62 or will it be better to upgrade and then root the phone on build 452?
please advise. thank you for your help.

You can go back to 2.3 just fine by flashing a ftf. There are a couple different methods to root ics. One needs an unlocked bootloader (flashing prerioted system image) the other does not (flashing multiple times while running some batch files). Both methods have posts in the dev section.

Easiest way is to unlock the booloader and flash the prerooted system.img you can then relock the bootloader if need be. That's for both ICS and GB.

You dont need to root to flash an firmware. Just saying.
Upgrade to ICS. Its much better and it would be much easier to help you because everyone uses it..
Good luck.
alrighty .. i tried to update the software but after downloading some odd 500 MB worth updates, it says "your software is modified, so can't be upgraded"

ok .. so i thought to do a factory reset on the phone settings > privacy > factory reset
it did factory reset and then i tried to upgrade the software. same thing ... it says, upgrade cant be done because the phone has modified software. i guess i will have to keep 2.3 gingerbread and then try to root the software. am i running out of options?

[Q] [HOW TO ROOT] [23.0.1.A.3.9] FW on Sony Xperia™ Z2? (Android 4.4.4)

Hi ;

Thank you.
Locked bootloader
1. Downgrade to 4.4.2,
2. Root and install recovery,
3. Flash rooted 4.4.4 zip through recovery
Unlocked bootloader
1. Unlock bootloader,
2. Flash kernel with recovery,
3. Flash Superuser zip through recovery
That's about it until a vulnerability has been found

BTW: you shouldn't flash that firmware, it's for o2 Germany only. It's basically the same as the other 4.4.4 firmwares just with a lot of bloatware and changes to o2 network.

And the only difference is bloatware and, possibly, very minor cosmetic changes. Ow and a configuration number.

as @mingkee said rooting your phone won't hurt your TA partition. you can even make a backup from TA partition after rooting your ZU. You will loose your TA partition only if you are going to unlock your bootloader. you don't have to do that for rooting. If you like to use a custom kernel (tap to wake, battery performance, ...) you have to unlock your bootloader but be sure to backup your TA partition first

Is there any way to root xperia x on 34.2.A.0.311 and backing up DRM without going back to MM?
i think the easiest way is install poison rom :3 it is a preroot rom ^^ I am using it ,however, you must temporary comeback to MM to backup DRM before do anything else like unlock boot-loader

When you flash mm firmware you must wipe everything in wipe tab ...because if you dont do it you will have bootloop issuse. This is my experience

if You use xperia firm, it will decrypted 4 .00* file for you. Therefore, your job is build tft and flash. Now, I will give you my used script to flash MM rom.
the script position is C:\Users"username"\.flashTool\devices paste my folder in this folder so you can flash it.
ps: before flash you should check the file name in this folder is as same as your TFT version like 34.0.*** and script file's name is 34.0.fsc
