It seems there is very little information regarding knowledge of how to bypass the Samsung S-View protection so you can use any non official case. For me, living in the UK that is a dramatic price difference from the original Samsung case costing £39.99 and upwards, or a copy costing £2.99. Obviously the original are far nicer but there are some class copies out there as well so the choice is yours.
It is very easy really and want to share with the community how to go about doing this. The secret is in the kernel. It must support disabling Samsung authenticity bypass. At the moment there are only two kernels to my knowledge and they are AEL kernel and Nadia kernel. Please make sure you use the kernel for the correct Note 4 variant (Such as N910f, N910g etc), or you could brick your phone. Once you have downloaded one of these kernels and flashed it via recovery, you then find the 'Synapse' application in your app drawer. This is the application what does the magic. Open 'Synapse' and scroll across the tabs until you come to 'MISC'. Towards the bottom where it says 'Sview Cover Hack". You will see a box to 'Enable or disable SView cover hack'. Simply check this box, press the tick at top and reboot.
Now you can save some money and have no issues using copied cases should you wish to do so.
Edit: Thank you to ravijani for sharing Note 4 Exynos variant N910C kernel which supports disabling Sview authentification check. You can find this kernel HERE
View attachment 3104580
for exynos device a kernel is available called ultimate kernel with that patch created by twistedumbrella : http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/development/one-kernel-to-rule-t2963629
They can use it.
Thanks for sharing about the Exynos variants. I'm on snapdragon n910f so this I couldn't find out for myself.

Hey guys. Few days ago i received Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge for testing purposes from Samsung Serbia. Sadly, S6 Edge is unable to run any kind of benchmarks, possibly do to being a "test" sample that has protection against leaking information before unveiling. Contacted Samsung and asked if there is something i can do, unfortunately they said they can't resolve the issue and my only option is to wait for retail samples for testing. My question is, is there anything i can do to remove those benchmark restrictions? I can't install any benchmark related app from PlayStore, and even can't run browser benchmarks such as Octane, Peacekeeper, BrowserMark, etc.
The purpose of receiving these phones is for writing a review on a Serbian IT website that i work for, and the benchmarks are semi-important part of my review, and being unable to run them will kinda cripple the testing part for S6 Edge. The regular S6 works fine, those restrictions are not present. Any options/suggestions for S6 Edge? I was thinking of flashing a retail ROM, but that seems unlikely, since there are no stock roms online for S6 Edge yet, and flashing procedure is still unknown. The version of S6 Edge i have is SM-G925F, and the build number is LRX22G.G925FXXM1AOBI. I am open for any tips and advices. Thanks.
Maybe rooting the device might give full access so that you can move the wanted APKs to the /system folder?
Chainfire released it.

It's not released yet for G925F.

I'm new in Android world, and I have to buy cheapest Android phone that will be able to handle Android 4.4 or newer.
I have found that the best option is Galaxy S3 and that there's one on Aliexpress. I'm aware that it might be a clone but it will not be my primary phone. It just has to be able to handle newer Android.
Can't post a link, search for the top ordered Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 on Aliexpress.
Has anyone tried it? Will software see it as genuin S3? Thank you!
if it's a real i9300 then you are only able to upgrade via custom rom. Official support via samsung stopped at 4.3
If You need official KK (4.4), then You must search form S3 4G/LTE (9305). Basic S3 ended with 4.3 (as maultasche said).
This must be S3? If not, try search Moto E - it's cheap and small chance to buy fake one - in S3 (generally in Samsung phones) it quite ease to buy fake/copy when your search for cheap phone.
You are right, thank you! And I will check Moto E but what about S3 Neo?
S3 Neo has 4.4.
You can check every Samsung phone here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Just type model name/code (S3 or 9301) and it will find all/latest version of firmware.
It you want a phone for calling/texting (and using in general), you should list your needs/requierements/max price and ask what to choice - XDA probably has a place for it.
If you want a phone for testing/development Android apps, you should think about Motorola/Nexus or some new models with offical long support (ie Xperia family).
I just need a >4.5" phone for general use, with at least 4.4 (to use with smart watches and bands). With as low cost as possible. Galaxy S3 Neo is my leader now.
I don't know where I You from, what models ara in your country and in what prices, so it's hard to suggest any model.
I suggest You to use some kind of price comparation site (in our country), choice your requierements and list devices. Then choice what you like (what looks nice to You) and has a good price.
Then paste list of interesting devices.
For example there are couple of cheap models named "Core" or "Grand" (from Samsung) with screen size obove 4.5 inch and new Android.
Downsides are: not so "strong" CPU/GPU (for games) and lack of light sensor - it shoudn't be a issue as You want to use smartwatch anyway.
In my opinion s3 is best choice As long as there is ANY chance to get some cm (official/ unofficial)

You can upgrade it even to marshmallow why KitKat?
As we are expecting the official cm to release tomorrow so I think that s3 is the best choice. And if you just like touchwiz s3 has 4.4.4 ports from touchwiz and you can install them. But I recommend you to install lollipop 5.1.1 rom if you buy a s3 device. You chose the best device if you want any help on how to flash these roms just reply my post.
If I helped you hit the tnx button.:good:
My last and my current smartphones were nexus devices. Since google revealed the pixel I thought about other smartphones. But I don't like update speed from non-google companies.
How difficult would it be to convert the current Stock Android (for example android 7) to the Huawei P9, OnePlus 3 or the Samsung Galaxy S7 or any other top device.
And how much time would you need to support also the curved Display from the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge or to support the notification button from the OnePlus 3 and the fast charging.
To myself: I would say that I am quite good at Java but not in a professional way.It is just a hobby.
In general: If I buy the latest smartphone of a company like Huawei, Samsung, OnePlus or LG would it be possible to convert the current Android version to my device? How much time would I need for that if I only want the Stock Android functions and the fingerprint sensor (Cyanogen features are not needed) and how long would I need if I also want to support the device specific features like a pen or a curved display?
How dangerous would that be? Breaking my device would be pretty easy right?
If that is possible how do I convert the Stock android to my device?
Thanks a lot
p4
short answer: very difficult. Huawei uses custom SoC from HiSilicon, and the specs for these chips is not published. similarly for Samsung devices using Exynos chips. Samsung phones running Qualcomm have a better chance.
if you want to learn to build AOSP (or something like CM), start with the AOSP documentation, then the CM wiki. Or go to the device forums here and check if someone has already started progress. for Huawei and Samsung (exynos), it's a long journey.
it goes well beyond knowing Java.
relatively speaking, modern devices are tough to permanently brick as long as you don't touch the bootloaders.
Thanks for the answer
I recently smashed up my S4 Mini. I was going to repair it, but it seems for not much more cost I could get an S5 Mini or Alpha.
I have been happy running CyanogenMod 11 for several years now; very stable. Reading here, looks like I might not get the same stability from S5 Mini or Alpha though -- given the choice, should I upgrade or stay with the S4 Mini?
Small screen and changeable battery are important to me, as is running a fairly 'open' ROM with PrivacyGuard and some other features I got from CyanogenMod 11. Nothing too experimental though, as I still need to reliably use the phone day-to-day for work etc.
Thanks -- Mark
Alpha has far more better hardware specification (both exynos and qualcom variants) than S5 Mini. I'm using Alpha with exynos and it's a really solid phone but Cyanogen based ROMs aren't working good enough for me to use them day-to-day, in the other hand firmware based ROMs like EpsilRom are working great so if you can live with it than it's worth taking. As far as I know Snapdragon version has no problem with Cyanogenmod but I heard that its CPU is not as fast as exynos one (but it's still the same chip that is in S5). Exynos variant is G850F and Snapdagon is G850W. The only advantages for S5 Mini for me are that it's waterproof and it has micro SD card slot.
Thanks -- very useful.
Can you tell me more of what you mean by "firmware based ROM"? I'm guessing you might mean they are modified versions of the stock ROM, rather than being a compile from source code?
I'll need to look into this situation with variants Exynos vs. Qualcom variants, and which variants are the one on the second hand market here (I'm in the UK)

Yes I meant modified version of the stock ROM, I'm using this one right now: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-alpha/development/rom-epsilrom-future-t3311333
Exynos variant is like default for Europe so it would be easier to get, and be carefull with these variants because there are few exynos versions(for example G850F and G850K) and few with snapdragon (G850W, G850A)
In theory if g850a was fully unlocked, this forum would be very active :/
Both @kyasu and @modpunk develop LOS 13/14.1.
Definitely if you are choosing from s5mini and ALPHA. Then ALPHA. The S5 mini is compared to Alpha very ****ty build. Plasticky and etc .. Alpha si more premium feel. And performance.
So I thought I would give a quick run down of what I've done with my Mi Mix 3 to get it feeling, looking and working just the way I like.
Phone:
- Mi Mix 128GB/8GB RAM CN version beginning of January 2019.
- Flashed Xiaomi EU Rom on (Stable 10.2 - still waiting for stable system dark mode...) - Google Pay working :highfive:
- Nova Launcher and misc. theme/icon stuff
Protection:
- This case in grey.
The jeans/cotton texture on the back doesn't just look great, it leads to MUCH better grip.
- This screen protector
Best application I have ever done, thanks to a clever 4 step peeling process. It's basically invisible.
Accessories (any colour, as long as it's black):
- Samsung Gear S2
- Samsung Galaxy Buds
The Samsung Wear app has matured quite a lot and thanks to it, both devices work like a charm. The Fitness tracking aspects I still need to play with, but not a high prio for me right now.
- Fatboy/Nokia Wireless Charger
If anyone would like screenshots or photos of any of the above, let me know.
Just bought the case on your recommendation that fabric texture looks lovely!
Now to find a good screen protector...
Congrats, i am on latest Xiaomi EU stable and cant use GPay.

I've found that the steps here with magisk allows google pay to work on the Xiaomi EU rom

This also works and is a bit more automated:

does that case slide?
