Hi All,
Just thought I'd mention a cool cradle I bought from a really nice ebayer ...
I got it this morning (next day delivery!) and the inclusive price delivered was £14.45
It also comes with a UK charging adapter so you don't have to rely on the USB power.
Also I have found that the cadle now works through my USB non powered Hub!!!!! even without the power adapter
So very pleased with this vital piece of kit that is essential when using for business and always updating diary/tasks etc.
Here is a link to his shop rather than the item incase the link dies...

[HDMI CABLE REVIEW]
Full review is on the way, I just wanted to let you know that I do have the prototype in hand and it DOES work, video and sound
[MALATA ZPAD DOCK REVIEW]
I finally got received my ‘official’ Malata ZPAD Dock today and wanted to post for all to see. PLEASE BARE WITH ME on my review, the pics aren’t that great and I didn’t run a bunch of tests but I have most of the basic info that everyone is going to want to know. Feel free to ask questions and I will try to run additional tests for you.
DOCK - HDMI Out, USB, LAN and power (no additional ac adapter supplied) – The quality is nice. The bottom of the dock has a rubber insert as to not scratch a table if moved around and as you may see from the pic there is a rubber insert where the tablet itself sits to protect it. The tab just drops on; pretty simple. With the ac adapter plugged in the tab does show that it’s charging. It sits at a rather upright angle (not straight up and down) so I would think that it’s something that you would NOT want to try type on without a keyboard on a regular basis, but it does seem pretty steady on there.
USB – As you can tell from the pic it did recognize an 8 GB USB thumb drive that I had plugged into it. I did not get to test a USB keyboard and mouse as the ones that I have available didn’t work natively with the tablet so I didn’t even try with the dock (yet).
LAN – Also in a pic, once plugged in the connection lights on the back started lighting up immediately. I turned off my WiFi and enabled the Ethernet in setting and it quickly got an IP and as you can see there is no longer an ‘x’ on the tablet LAN icon. I DID test the internet and all worked just fine.
HDMI – plugged the HDMI in and hooked it up to a 32” and it popped right up. NOW the quality was grainy and I’m sure there may be a way to fix that but I just wanted to get you pics to show whether it worked or not. In the pics you can see my screen duplicated and I started a movie (which I will say the quality was much better in the movie that it replicating my home screens)
All in all… I am extremely pleased and can’t wait to put it to use.
With that being said, I need to thank those involved for their work in spearheading efforts to get these in for us. I plan on trying to get a couple over as quickly as possible to ‘donate’ to a couple of people that won’t take donations for some exceptional work and personal attention (more on that to come later... )
I will update as soon as I can with any other ‘information’ in regards to the availability of these on US soil.
Let me know what you think!
EDIT: Just added a couple of pics of the innards (sent them to the dropbox for larger resolution). Ok, HDMI guys, what next?

Great work Steve. Is there any possible way for you to diagram the pin out of the connector (at least to the hdmi pins). We are working on an HDMI cable with a plug breakout board and have no idea how to guess which of the 30 pins go to which wires on the hdmi cable.
Thanks again
The pinouts for all would be good to know. Wouldn't mind making a cable with all connections!
Anyways, great review!
Can't wait to get ours from the group buy in!

that's gonna be outta my realm of knowledge right this second but if you want to try to tell me what to do, I'm not scared?
This Android journey that started with my phone a few months ago and is lingering to the tablet has made me pretty fearless. I'm now learning more about adb and ddms (just wanna take pics). It worked once and never since, something about java and crap like that.
Lemmie know.

This might be a stupid question but what resolution does it output to your tv? I am going to buy one of these as soon as I can. Very cool.
HDMI connect to TV..
Is it easy to open it up? Trace the wiring?
Don't think there will be much on the onside.

I hope that isn't a response to me. HDMI is not a resolution. That is the connector. It could output 480p for all I know.
Wow thanks. I can't wai to get mine. Dumb question but do u have to have the zpad rom to use this dock?

It doesn't mean the device supports it up to that resolution. He didn't even mention it. Do you have one that you have tested? It could be limited to a certain resolution. Is that so hard to understand? I know what HDMI is. I know what resolutions are. You keep repeating things I already know. I want to know what resolutions are available when you are outputting to your tv. Does it actually ask you what resolution? Some tvs and monitors do not go to 1080p. So please I would like for the original poster or someone that has one to please respond. You are not helping me at all here.

I am not offended by what you said. I am just curious and you weren't answering my question is all. There are many devices that use HDMI without using it to it's full potential. No hard feelings here.
I've got a crazy schedule this week but will do what I can to get all of your questions answered for you. I need to check to see if my TV supports 1080p (I'll bet it doesn't, cheapy) however I wouldn't really know how to test , in fact, that's what the tablet is pushing. If someone knows a way to test that feel free to let me know.
Also, I'm not gonna lie and they these aren't cheap. Unfortunately because of my OCD, ADD, and impulsive nature; this thing wasn't cheap for me to get here that quickly however I will take it to work today and see what I can do to rip it apart to find out the cabling for those that have asked. If (when) I get it torn apart I'll be asking you asking you guys exactly what the hell I'm supposed to be looking for (pinouts ect).
I will also find the time to flash a couple other ROMS to let you know that all works with each ones. Unfortunately that wont be happening until tonight tho. I can flash and have the ROMS ready for testing but won't be back to the TV until tonight.
I'm sorry that I couldn't do a more thorough review for everyone beforehand but as I said before, I really wanted to get something up quickly as I know that we were all wanting to know if it even worked at all for now.

just dropped some links with pics in the OP with the innards... Let me know what else you need ripped apart for cabling ...
Steve for a pin out diagram all you need is a simple continuity tester with thin probes. Hold one probe to a pin on the main port and begin touching pins on the connections in the back HDMI, USB, etc. When the tester beeps or lights up you have a match. Make note of it on your diagram. Shouldn't take too long and its totally safe for your dock.
I'm software not hardware, but best bet at a guess would be for to diagram the connector and all the outputs, then take a volt meter and iduno what level of voltage (something tiny obviously, somebody who knows hardware better on here could say) and just try to pass a small signal through each pin of the dock connector and use the volt meter to map where it comes out.
Again, I'm software not hardware so I may be way off here. I wonder if those fellas who sell the dock breakout would be willing for you to ship them the dock and they run signals through it and ship it back to you after they've mapped it for us. Would be a boon for them to know the mapping because then they could start selling us a dock to hdmi connector.. And a hobbyist shop like that, they probably know how to safely pass a signal through the thing to map the dock.
Currently I just have the tablet and have been thinking about buying the keyboard dock.
Is it worth $130? I currently have a laptop here at school, along with a desktop, and my tablet. My brother thinks it would be dumb to get the keyboard dock, because I would essentially have 3 computers.
Opinions?
I've heard people say that once you use the dock, you "almost" forget about using your other options. I just got my wife a TF101 and the dock for Valentine's Day and she doesn't want to use the tablet without the dock. I plan on picking up a dock for my Transformer soon because after playing with hers, I definitely need to have one. Hope that helps but at the end of the day, it's your decision and your wallet that's being affected.
I got both..
The question is
Is this replacing your laptop? If so i would say get a dock.. Its easier for me to type with the dock.. I only have it out the dock when going outside or gaming.
Other plus is the battery in the dock.
Just my 2cents.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
i thought i will get the dock play with it for a week and leave and idont its one of the best buys i had and consider the fact that here is costs 250 us dollars
ifind the dock a very good replacement for my other 2 laptops first of all its quite smaller than a mini laptop so its great for me to carry around
second the battery is awesome im working with it almost every day all day and the battery never died
even when im browsing the internet listening to music and downloading torrents
the time here is 18:20 right now im using it since around 4:30 i have 74 battery on dock
also it supports a few games so it nice to play with it
there are also 2 usb ports for DOK or xbox controller or ps3 controller for gaming
even some 3g dongles are supported
i pesonally find the dock one of the best buys for me
now it up for you to decide
p.s sorry for writing too much lol
You can never have enough computers
I bought the dock three days ago and am very pleased with it.
Typing is faster than the onscreen keyboard and battery life has doubled.
I also use it as a stand, so I don't have to use a case as a stand.
not sure if this has been answered before but can the dock charge other thing through usb like say a phone
i had the tablet for about 3 months without the dock and loved it. I got it about 2 months ago and its awesome. great build quality, battery is great, you can plug just about anything usb into it, thumb/hard drives, wireless mice, etc.
you wont use your laptop except to burn dvd's.
Hell, its great even to have as a charging station, its so easy to take on and off.
If you've got the money to spend, you wont regret it.

yes, when the tablet is on the dock it will charge phones etc.
if you remove the tablet it becomes useless, except to charge itself.
I agree with the other posters; the dock rocks! I use my tablet pretty much exclusively with the dock. With it the Transformer can easily replace a laptop.
One advantage I haven't seen mentioned yet (at least in this thread) is the dock also protects the tablet's screen, when they are folded together.
Hermit, when the transformer is folded into the keyboard dock, is it secured by some mechanism?

its kinda like spring loaded. Its a very firm hold, it doesn't flap around or anything.
If thats what you mean,
if your talking about how the tf attaches to the dock, then there are two hooks on the dock that lock into the bottom of the tf. then you have to slide the switch over to get it out. again very secure and firm.
Get the dock! I bought tablet alone at first but after a two months I decided to get the dock - and it changed the whole game! More juice, easier typing when needed, usb ports, card reader, even (rom based) 3g dongle!
Deffinetely go for it!
BTW - since I got TF (and the dock later) I didn't touched my laptop more than few times!
Bought it yesterday and got it today (F'yeah Amazon Prime)
It's awesome! I don't know why I have a laptop now >_<
dock is really awesome
it looks and feels amazing with tab attached to it! and battery life is incredible
I have to agree with everyone's comments about the dock - and as to "replacing" or having an extra computer......I have a dual screen I7, TF101, a hand me down Toshiba Tecra running as a home server, and a now dead Asus Slate (still trying to fix).
I have a Dell Studio XPS laptop that always overheats and runs out of battery way too fast. It's great and all but not practical for school use. I don't get much time near a charger so it's annoying to lug around a dead laptop.
I bought the tf in my first semester of college and absolutely adored it. I used it for everything and used it all day to bring it home with still 60-70% charge. 6 months later I bought the dock and it's just the cherry on top. It works beautifully, it's small, it's fast, it does everything I need it to do (Web surfing, music, study, gaming) and last days without charging (Doesn't heat up at all, only a little tiny bit when charging)
My laptop now stays at home as my webserver as an alternative to buying another desktop.
It's all up to you if you're going to use it enough to pay the $130 for the dock.
I just got the dock yesterday and have to say, it is very nice indeed.. I have a question though.
How do the little doors/flaps hold up for the USB connectors? They seem a bit flimsy and I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with those?
Get the dock.
The Transformer is only as good as the other offerings (Xoom/Tab/iPad) without it. With it, it's the best tablet on the market bar none...
Sell one of your laptops to fund it
Just to echo what everyone else is saying,
When I first saw the TF at I think it was CES (or MWC) last year, I thought it was just another android tablet. Its got a keyboard? Great, iPad has stuff like that too, so whatever.
But then my friend got one in the summer AND IT FOLDS UP LIKE A LAPTOP?! Sold! AND ITS A BATTERY?! AND A TRACKPAD?! USB PORTS?!
Needless to say, I was incredulous. The keyboard I think is what sets it apart from everything else on the market (save the prime). You can have your galaxy tabs and your xooms and xyboards - have fun typing on them. Not to mention all the function keys along the top row with shortcuts for the browser, settings, volume, brightness, probably some other stuff.
And it probably wouldn't be the worst idea in the world to throw a sizable SD into the dock to supplement your storage.
I wouldn't wait a second to buy the dock. Best addition to a tab ever. So much easier to type and the screen is protected during travel. Only downside is the additional $$$ really.
The extra battery life alone makes the dock worth it. Since getting the dock, I've put my Macbook pro up for sale and am just using my tablet (use my media pc for everything else).
One thing I wish is that the trackpad worked more like a real mouse (ie. when you're trying to drag something on the screen (to select text or drag the screen of a flash window). Right now it just acts as though you are touching the screen with your finger. It's still a lot better though. I find myself using the touchscreen more than the trackpad though (unless I need to make more precise touches).
I have no regrets of getting the dock.
Be warned though, if you let the battery in the dock completely die, you will need to plug it into a 5V power adapter to get the tablet to communicate properly with the dock's battery (will show up as 0% even if it's fully charged). I just plug my USB cable into my USB-110V adapter for my blackberry for a few seconds and it's good to go again.
Hey guys, what do you think? Would you rather get the S4 or the Padfone2? Opinions would be appreciated.
My Opinion is ASUS PADFONE 2 For That Reasons...
-My Pc is Asus
-My Laptop is Asus
-I had the padfone 1!
-And tommorow i buy the padfone 2!!!!!!
Also i saw review about that 2 phones.they are not so different but the external matterial of ASUS is great....
MY OPINION.....
(Also you can use asus as TABLET!!! Is A GOOD REASON!)
What's troubling me from making a decision right now is that the tablet can't be operated without the phone and you can't pick up incoming calls without removing it from the pad. Apart from that I've always thought that the padfone 2 was great but now there's S4. And there's not even a thread which is dedicated to the padfone 2 here which means I can barely tweak my padfone 2...

i have the padfone2 and you can answer your call from your pad, besides the Padfone infinity is coming out soon, wait for it then decide.
good :good:luck
Looked for along time at Samsung, but price crazy for 32gb tablet alone and would have needed another data plan (what's the point if it's not instant on, I'm not gonna set up tether every time I want to surf, and its going to kill my phone battery if I forget to turn it off...3g is essential!!!)...
so bought used fonepad off ebey in UK for 500, best superphone I've had in ages, last was HTC sensation which was good but much slower and constantly running out of and reallocating memory, app multitasking was just painful, and screen was just a little too small for surfing, note taking, video etc... OMG, compared, this padfone is multiple organism provoking
This one is awesome and the pads ability to recharge phone just by sliding it in means I can use it for work almost non stop during the day... without the risk of having entire functional and configured tablet nicked - phone stays in my pocket unless i need to do something...
Perfect concept, one data plan, auto switches to WiFi when in range, Supernote works great, easy to jump to tablet to compose longer emails and sms... great for travel, 5 gmail accounts no problem! White ebay ultra pu stand+case from justilikecom for 15 quid works great. Cheap eBay bt headphones from e-superb for 15 GBP work just great for calls and music, and even movies on the go.
Not so good:
battery use pretty heavy in tablet mode, but maybe cause battery getting old on this one.... not possible to run for whole day non-stop without a recharge in the middle, but i have yet to find one that does... manufacturers figures always assume lowest power modes and screen off after a couple of mins(doesn't work for my usage at work-taking notes every couple of minutes, Gtalk, calls etc.) Basically on more often than not....
Suffered from known issue of sporadic reboots maybe10 times total, when cycling WiFi on and off (but that hasn't happened in a week so maybe another config option has negated this issue- not sure?).
No issues with power connector as some people commented (aware so careful) but regular micro-usb chargers don't work well unless you just use them to charge pad by itself... with phone it seems to recognize that it's not Asus charger and load will be too great-stops charging-and i can't find a spare adapter uk anywhere....
Best- The flexibility and bi-personality of the pf2 is awesome, with separate home screen app-widget config in pad or fone mode works great, so you can have 2 completely separate sets of home screens-more work to set up but I find tablet use totally different to phone, so very useful to have. Takes maybe 1-2 secs for phone to switch over to pad mode and redraw-rescale everything. Nice!
Can take calls and use it as speakerphone, or via BT, or just pull phone out and talk. It's a one-stop shop for communications...Google hangouts with video work fine, Skype also, what more could you wish for.....
Wish I had the money for an infinity(1000 GBP!!!).... but I now know what my next phone-tab will be
Wish xda had separate section for us to hang out in as well......

Follow-up.... on the charger issue-when phone is in tablet it detects amperage charger supplies and stops overloading if too low...so real 2A is required... nothing else.
Confirmed via http://www.padfoneclub.com/pl/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?4405.0#post_5808
Will try and source a real 2A wall brick and see if that works....

And more..... bought about 3 hi-power wall chargers that promised 2A - none of them worked fully like OEM charger. Despair was setting in. Called bunch of retailers, no-one had oem uk charger.....
Then I bought portapow 4 port charger. Works great. Real 2A puppy, so works just like OEM, charges both tab and phone together no problem.
Details for the desperate- 14.99 gbp from fleabay, free shipping. Listed as Quad 4-port universal USB mains ac wall charger 10W 2A for iPad by seller portapow_co_uk. I have no connection, just good opinion.
Now rooted and running guerilla rom.... finally some action!!!! I'm going to look for 64gb version next.. need more room for my music and videos
Enjoy, whatever you get!!!!!
Hi,
Just wanted to let you guys know about this dock that I picked up from aliexpress.
The build quality is awesome, it is all metal. Feels really solid and it works in the same way the the actual DeX stations do.
I've attached a couple of images of the product and one of my review.
The current cost is USD $13.71 GBP £10.26 and that includes postage from China, mine turned up in a week and a half, really happy with it.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/EAS...893.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.6d9f4c4d3EQZa8
It works in the same way as the original DeX does, you cannot use your screen as a trackpad and must connect a wireless/usb mouse and keyboard. I haven't tried it with a USB hub yet but I imagine it would work as it is powered via your USB-C phone charger. Using my GS9 original charger it allows passthrough fast charging whilst using the dock. You can also use it for standard screen mirroring rather than DeX mode.
With the experimental labs mode enabled (in DeX settings, which appears when connected) to allow you to scale most windows up to full screen. The only one I have found which doesn't go fullscreen is netflix. Things like PUBG mobile (only opened app to see if it works, you would need an app to remap keyboard keys to play a match), Youtube, Terrarium TV etc all work fine. The option for sound output via phone/connected hdmi device works.
If you have any questions or need me to try something out on it for you, please let me know.
There are some more expensive versions with more USB ports and 3.5mm audio out - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/EAS...-9e13-2ca171f3bfbb,scm-url:1007.13339.90158.0 - These are £29.91 (USD $39.98)
Nice. Do you need to remove the phone from the case or is the usb-c connector long enough? Just curious.

I did have to remove it from the case. I am using the Caseology Parallax which isn't overly thick (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Caseology-...-2&keywords=caseology+parallax+galaxy+s9&th=1 / https://www.caseologycases.com/products/galaxy-s9-parallax-case).
I don't see it as too much of an inconvenience, as when you are using the dock it is likely that you won't be leaving your desk/living/wherever for a while.
Thanks, I will keep it in mind. I bought one off Amazon that had a sale that I found on Slickdeals. It's the XF Times one and it was on sale for $8 so I took a gamble on it. It's working well at the moment but if it breaks, I will look at the one you posted. I already saved it to my Favorites.

Ah, that looks similar actually. I've never really looked on Amazon for them. I wasn't really looking to buy this one, I was just browsing Aliexpress and decided to actually order something on there rather than just browsing for ages and deciding against it. I picked up a couple of cases and watch straps too, it's too easy to buy things when they are so cheap!
My cheap DeX dock works fine
Only problem is, it doesn't charge the phone. The dock requires USB power also. Without power, it just mirrors the phone screen. So I just charge the phone in the morning and it would go all day on DeX if I wanted. However, I usually get up and go to meetings and such, so I end up taking the S9 with me. When I get back, I will typically top off the charge again before plugging back into DeX. I have a DeX setup at work with monitor, keyboard, and mouse, and I also have one at home. I just take the little dock with me and keep it in my backpack. They are so cheap, I really should just buy another one to keep one at both places.
If I don't plug in a mouse, I can use the phone as a touchpad. If I do plug in a mouse, the touchpad functionality doesn't work. Which is fine; just an observation.

Hi,
I hadn't even tried it without the wireless keyboard attached as I foolishly assumed it wouldn't work with this dock. I've just tried it and thanks for the tip it works great as a touchpad!
I just carry a spare USB-C lead with me when I need it, it even manages to fast charge.
One thing I will note is that the connection has become a bit hit and miss on this, I don't know whether that is build quality or because the dock USB-C connector has taken a knock when I have been carrying it around. I still think that I can't really complain for what it cost me.
Yeah, I figured the touchpad function wouldn't work because it is not a Samsung dock. But it still does if you don't use any other input devices.
Just to clarify this dock puts the S9 into the actual DEX mode, not some sort of "similar" app?

Hi Cookie,
Yeah, this gives actual DeX mode :good:. There are loads of similar products about on Amazon/Ebay but I went for this as it was a cheap addition to an Aliexpress haul.

I got Goodock one, overall it worked pretty good but it does randomly disconnect from time to time (very quickly, it doesn't even leave DeX mode). I am using a HDMI to VGA adapter in my setup, I doubt it is the reason for disconnects but you never know.
I wrote a review in the S9+ accessories area:

How often do you find yourself using it? I think I have only used mine 2/3 times but I like knowing it is there if I need it.

Honestly maybe once a week. Hard to break the habit of just firing up a laptop.
Can this work with a non Samsung Android?
Is there/ shouldnt there be a generic/ stock Android alternative for the same?
This is nice but better connect a computer from other room to tv and bring cable through the wall for wireless mouse too there if it's for home.
I recommend this.
