[Q] Minimal Case w/Flat Back? - Nexus 6 Accessories

Currently I have a Diztronic TPU case and it's great except for the fact the the back is curved like the phone.
I often use my phone with it sitting on my desk. It's a bit of an inconvenience with it rocking back and forth.
Are there any minimal (TPU) cases that have a flat back?
Thanks

The back isn't flat.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk

The Ringke Fusion is not flat in the back, but it does have a groove in the middle so the phone doesn't rock back and forth. But actually using the phone while it's lay flat will cause it to wobble a bit.

Actually this is one of the biggest design flaws with the phone for me, and it's 'slipperiness'. How can you build such a thing? It lives and dies for me with the feeling I'll experience while holding it. The N5 was flawless in this way.

There's this thing, which would appear to even out the curve of the back so it can sit flat on a surface without rocking.

Just ran across this in another thread. Can't vouch for this personally, but it looks like the flattest back I've seen yet.

Clearly a typo. Doubt there's anything to be apprehensive about.

"MOKO"
I've been using one of these for a month now and I love it. It's not "minimalist" but it's very well made, grippy (which is very important to me), gives great protection with an excellent fit and its FLAT on the back. Also very light weight for all of the protection it gives. Came with a holster which I threw away, it still fits in my back pocket just fine.

Looks like it shares a similar design to Spigen's Ultra Hybrid buttons. I don't recommend these buttons, very difficult to realize what button your hand is being placed on unless you count which can be annoying rather than having the buttons separated from each other.

Thanks! Ordered one of the Evocel cases, $11 shipped with tax via Prime.
10-minute use review:
It's properly flat, sits flat on desk and does not rock at all when I type.
Back texture is almost smooth but not "slimy" like my previous Spigen Ultra Hybrid. No matter how clean your hands are, your fingers naturally produce oil that interacts in a very gross way with perfectly smooth plastic cases...this one is textured enough to not be annoying. It's not as soft-touch/grippy as the back of a Spigen NEO Hybrid though
Has reasonable friction to prevent it from sliding off a desk. The stock N6 or N6 in Ultra Hybrid case were terrible in this regard. It's a plastic back though, not a soft-touch material, so it will slide.
The back is very thick, material thickness is much thicker than Spigen Ultra Hybrid. It *substantially* increases the size of the phone, both due to its thickness and the obvious geometry change needed to make the back flat. The normal curved shape of the N6 is very helpful for making it pocketable, I'll have to see over time whether the flat back is worth the increased bulk.
Phone feels very secure in the case, was difficult to remove.

This looks like a winner for me. Besides not being able to tell what button you're hitting, it brings me back to the Spigen Neo Hybrid which I really liked. The one they made for the N6 looks really nice too with the metallic buttons, but they left the back curved. I will give this a try for sure.
Thanks!

For those having issues with the buttons on the Evocel case - I solved that problem by putting a puffy eyeball sticker on the power button.

I just bought this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/33141407088...49&var=540591992061&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
It appears to have raised edges on the back that would keep it from rocking. I haven't even gotten my N6 yet, but I ordered the phone, screen protector, and case all at once. I ordered a "new other" Nexus 6 from ebay for $489. Seemed like a really good deal. No box or charger though.

Incipio DualPro Case Review.

Here is my quick review of the new Incipio DualPro Case. First I want to say sorry for the blurry pics. Wasn't taken with the best camera, but I wanted to get this up now.
Right off the bat this case feels great. It's almost gel-like. It's made of a hard shell, and very soft inner part, but both feel the same. It's like a feltish feel. Reminds me of the Nexus One's back. Even though it was hard plastic, it had that soft touch feel to it. The buttons are extremely easy to press thanks to the soft inside material being the cover instead of the hard outer shell, or individual pieces like the Spigen Neo-Hybrid. The overall thickness is also less compared to both the Neo-Hybrid and the Spigen Slim Armor. It almost feels like the naked phone without a case.
The cutouts are spot on too. Just like the Slim Armor. No complaints overall. Again the headphone port has a deep cutout, so you will need an extension, or just use headsets with thin jacks. Anything larger than the headphones that came with it won't fit. The camera is tucked in just enough, so there is no fear of it contacting any surface when put down, and the front is thick enough to protect any sort of surface if laid face down. I'm really happy with this case. For me it's a toss up between the Slim Armor and this with the Neo-Hybrid last. Both the Slim Armor and DualPro feel great in the hand, but the DualPro feels a bit better with the super soft touch feel. Great case that you can't go wrong with. The color is Cyan.

Thanks for the pictures & review, this may be my kind of case. One question though, how is the gripping on the sides? All I need in a case now is one that provide sufficient grip, since the Note 3 is so thin and slippery on the sides that sometimes it literally slides off my hands/grip.
The grip on the sides Isn't super slick but I wouldn't call it grippy either. I'd try and check it out in a VZW store first hand. My only complaint is the TPU insert doesn't have much rigidity around the home button and the speaker. So it snags and doesn't stay snug so to speak.
I'm probably going to return mine when my Uag arrives

This is the only case so far that I'm really having an easy time holding. The Slim Armor was the best I thought, but this one is just a perfect increase in size over the naked phone. The rubbery texture is more than enough to grip. When you first put it on it may feel a bit slippery, but it's just the talcom powder they use in the molds for the silicone to be easy to get out. I wiped mine down, and now it's a soft rubbery grippy feeling case. I really like it a lot. Plus the sides are curved. There are no corners that you need to grip against like the Neo-Hybrid or Slim Armor. It's a very natural feeling to hold it since your fingers wrap the entire case. One bonus feature I found for me is the entire bottom is the very soft inner case, and the way I hold the phone I tend to put my pinky under the bottom as a brace. The soft gel really is easy on my finger. The other two case are hard on the bottom, and I would have to keep moving my pinky to stay comfy.

That's a good additon to mention. The top and bottom are both just the soft inner case. There is no hard outer shell to keep it pressed against the phone, so if you tend to put it in your pocket I can see it getting caught and pulled when you try to pull it out, but overall with it being on the case and used, it doesn't "wobble or flipflop" by itself. It's stiff enough to stay put, but easy enough to pull away with a slight tug.
Ah yeah I wasn't clear. It stays put until it snags coming in and out of my pocket. It's merely an annoyance.
My favorite thing about the case is how comfortable it is. Holding the phone naked now feels sharp and uncomfortable.

One thing, you should put a link in the OP so readers can easily find this case, instead of having to search the web for it. Other than that, which you can easily fix with an edit, excellent review!

How'd you get your case so quickly? I pre-ordered directly from incipio.com about 2 weeks ago and still haven't received a shipping notice.
EDIT: Oh, apparently the blue and pink versions are shipping NOW, but the neutral white and black versions are taking a little longer. Ah well.

I'm special. LOL Yeah just as your edit said. I check sites daily, and when I see them in stock I order ASAP. That's how I get all my case in before everyone. I check first thing in the morning (around 8). I find I can order in the morning with "in stock" stuff, and by afternoon they are already out of stock.

I picked up a DualPro SHINE, Brushed silver color, from the Verizon store, They were able to pick up the day note3 came out. They still sell them, It's a the best over the counter case you can get IMHO at the moment.
How does this case compare to the spigen bounce? I just ordered the bounce to try it out.
I loved this case on my SG4 but it was a Lint & Dust magnent. I think there is a correlation with most cases....the grippier the case...the more dust and lint it will attract. Just got a UAG case for my new note 3 and it sits perfectly inbetween Grip and Lint spectrum!
Just ordered mine from amazon. How easy / not easy is it to quickly take off and put back on? Like if I wanted to swap batteries in my phone, would it be this whole ordeal? Thanks

It's very easy. One of the best cases if you need to do that. When it's on it's on good, but no fear of breaking something if you have to take it off.
Sent from a Galaxy Note 3 far, far away....
My older brother had the Shine version of the Incipio DualPro for his Galaxy Note II and it was pretty bulky with no easy way to take it off. I have the Spigen Slim Armor for my Galaxy Note 3 and considered it superior until I noticed a crack in the armor yesterday. It has never been dropped so I am pretty sure that it was caused by taking the phone in and out daily. I do this carefully one side at a time and push through from behind (camera opening) but it happened anyway. I would hope that the Note 3 version of the DualPro is easier.
Also, it was rounded so it probably wouldn't fit a flat metallic plate insert like the nGroove Snap uses. He also tried it with a Qi wireless receiver I sent him and it doesn't work through the case. I hope the Note 3 version is thinner.

If you're looking for a transparent case then look into Spigen Ultra Hybrid or Ringke Fusion.
Ringke Fusion is not shipping until next week though. I'm using the Ultra Hybrid, I like the colors and its a nice case. Although I think I'd like the buttons to be separated so it'd be easier to see which key is what.
I have decided on the spigen slim armor in gunmetal. Sadly I dont have my nexus 6 yet but the case looks and feels awesome. I just fear that the vertical stand will break after a while but thats just a guess...
Ringke by far is my favorite just because the buttons are made a little better then the spigen.
I have been quite happy with the spigen slim armor. Mine has none of the QC issues the Amazon reviews have mentioned. My kickstand has never fallen out and I don't know how it ever could with the phone in the case. I think most of the overly negative reviews on the kickstand were from people who reviewed it before they even had the phone. The phone fits perfectly and is easy to get out. The one issue I do have with it is the flat buttons. It is virtually impossible to know which button you are about to press without looking which is kind of annoying. If they modify that I will buy a new one. I'd be happy if the Slim Armor had the button of the neo hybrid.
I used one of those slim Ringke cases on my nexus 5 and it scratched the corners of my phone when I removed it so I'll never use that brand again. I know this phone is different so maybe that's no longer an issue but once is enough for me.
Edit - I see you said you want a transparent case. That means my comments can be disregarded, lol...

Agreed and the buttons on the N6 are separated which prevents miss taps, its still not available for sale yet though. Using the Ultra Hybrid for the time being. Not sure how I feel about the caps on the N6 ports for the Fusion, they didnt use to have them.
Ringke for cases definitely. I have both for the N5 and for the N4 and Ringke does feel slimmer and very well made.
Spigen for Screen Protectors.
I ordered the Ringke Fusion Crystal
Pics of Spigen Ultra Hybrid with Spigen Ultra Crystal Screen Protector
I'm sure by now you've already obtained your case, though I thought I'd post some pictures of the Spigen (Crystal Clear) Ultra Hybrid along with a Spigen Ultra Crystal Screen Protector.
As you can see, it shows off the device, but still achieves maximum protection. The Case is a hard shell on the back, and soft rubber along the sides. Both are clear.
I haven't had any issues with the buttons on the case. If anything, the button placement on the actual phone will take some getting used to, though they are situated halfway down for a reason.
Enjoy!
P.S. These pics were taken from my iPhone 5S. Unfortunately.....

I am using this case right now and really enjoy it. No issues with QI, NFC and it offers great protection for the minimalistic design. Case is very sturdy and fits like a glove. The only small gripe I have with it is the buttons. While they are very tactile it is very difficult to distinguish power from volume. Other than that its great.
I did order the ringke fusion, which is the basically the same case. The biggest differences between the spigden and the ringke I saw were plugs where the cutouts are, it comes with a screen protector AND the power button and volume rocker are much more pronounced (easier to distinguish) in my opinion. Both cases are great and if your curious about the other, here's a link.

They are flush, and built into the soft rubber material. I know many people are having issues with the button placement, but it hasn't been a problem for me. It's quite simple really, top is power, bottom is volume down, that leaves the middle for.... You guessed it! Haha

Haha, thanks. I've been an Android user since the G1. The iPhone is for work. FIgured since ALLLL of my personal devices have been Android, might as well try somethign different.
To be honest, I barely even touch my iPhone other than for responding to e-mails on the go, and emergency work calls. It was cool and interesting for about 2 days, though I will probably upgrade to the iPhone 6S plus when it becomes available (for work of course).
Spigen Perfect/Thin Fit VS Ringke SLIM
I have both the Spigen Perfect/Thin Fit and the Ringke SLIM cases in black. I started with the Spigen but didn't like the way the Motorola logo was the centerpiece of the back of the phone and also the case kept 'unclicking' out of position on the phone when it was in my pocket (so far in only 3 days this has happened around 5 times)... so I looked for an alternative and found the Ringke SLIM. I have to say I much prefer the Ringke, it's simple, it has very subtle branding (no cutcouts for motorola logo on the back either) and the cutouts for the inputs are nicer. It also has cut outs at the stress points that make it a bit more durable (less chance of the plastic breaking or the case stressing in general). Also, so far the Ringke has been rock solid and hasn't moved an inch on my Nexus 6. The only thing I miss from the Spigen is the soft touch black coating... but considering the other issues I had, this is perfectly acceptable.
I got the spigen neo hybrid, it's OK but makes the phone feel bulky and makes the screen bezel look huge. Also the buttons could be better designed, the nexus 6 has a smaller textured button and a longer volume button, spigen went for 3 buttons all the same size with no texture and in my coat pocket it's hard to get the right button to change volume when listening to music.

[Q] Case

Has any users here used or have this case for their nexus 6? I already paid for it and it will be here tomorrow using amazing 1 day shipping. Curious what others think.
I have it. Bought it and the ringke fusion same time. I like both, and quality seems to be identical. That being said I find I use the ringke more as it has the accent depression on the back that feels good in hand, as well as the protruding buttons are easier to distinguish.
The upside if the spigen however, is that it seems to have less of a rainbow effect on the back at certain angles.
I have this case, I love it because of the clear back, really shows off the beauty of the Nexus 6. However, as mentioned by the other poster, this case makes it very hard to distinguish the power and volume buttons. The buttons on my case also weren't very tactile, I always find myself hitting the wrong one. But, I still thoroughly enjoy this case, it protects the Nexus 6 very well.

Thanks. I am putting a dbrand skin on it...blue one actually. So excited about this. Thanks I always used Spigen for all my devices. Just figured I ask. Is this a slip on type one or is it clip like the metal ones? I didnt really find anything about how it gets put on.
I just push the bottom of the phone in and snap it down in. The border is tpu, so it has some flex while offering some drop protection.
I use a black carbon fiber slickwrap on my n6, and it really does emphasize the beauty of this beast.

The glass do yes, but I got rid of mine because I hate the halo. I'm using the plastic one that came with my ringke.
Nice case ..

Ultra thin case

Has anyone found an ultra thin case like a Calicase or Peel?
so far i can't find one. i loved the offical LG case for the nexus 5x. it was basically a cover for the back and had cutout on the bottom. all i want is to protect the back from scuffs. don't need a big case.
I'm holding out for the Ringke Slim to come out for the Pixel. It's been a perfect slim case for my old Nexus 5, Nexus 5X, and then the 6P.
I'll be using the Pleson TPU case in the mean time.
I ordered a pleson from amazon. It features some sort of dots on the back to prevent sticking air bubbles patterns. Get get on my s6edge with tpu cases today. We'll see how it holds up.
I've been looking for a thin case myself. I just put my Pixel into this case a few minutes ago:

I was skeptical because of the top and bottom which typically are nonexistent on these types of cases but I'm very happy.

I was looking at this case last night! Looks like the Ringke Slim, which I've had in the past and loved. Was it tight when putting it on? My only concern with these kinds of cases is scraping the edges of the phone when putting it on/taking it off.

I just popped it out and back in to see and no it didn't seem to be too tight. I don't believe this is a concern. The edges of the case are also rounded and have a soft matte type of finish.
Good case option from Amazon
If you need a quick case at a good price, try this one out. I ordered it in advance. It isn't that special but does the basics. I think it is slim, but not ultra slim. Check it out until more cases hit the market. Different colors and styles are available.
Search amazon for this name and brand. $7.99 shipped:
Google Pixel Case, DGtle [Shock Absorbent] Anti-Scratches TPU Gel Premium Slim Flexible Soft Bumper Rubber Protective Case Cover for Google Pixel (Smoke Black)
What I need is something like the custom live cases from Google, but not at $50 CAD. I have a Spigen thin fit on my 6P and I'm looking for something similar, but not clear.
what you guys are listing and talking about are thin cases, OP is looking for ultra thin cases, like the orzly flexslim series:
http://orzly.com/products/flexi-slim
I hoping they will come out with one for the pixel too, these are really just for scratch protection and will offer literally no drop protection, its similar to having a slim on your phone but more flexibility as you can just put it on and take it off easily.

I've been looking for a thin case myself. I just put my Pixel into this case a few minutes ago:

I was skeptical because of the top and bottom which typically are nonexistent on these types of cases but I'm very happy.

Could you post a few more pics? I'm thinking of ordering this case too.
Thanks!
i'm hoping to go with just a bumper case around the outer edge, because this phone is a beauty and i dont want to cover it up! that said, if i did get a full case and wanted to keep it relatively slim, i'm probably go with the diztronic matte slim case. i have one on my 5x, and it's been not only great at protecting on minor falls and bumps, but has held up extremely well over time. couldn't say enough about that case. looks like amazon currently has it available for purchase, but it's not shipping until 11/4.
I'm using this i love the feel and fit on it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LEAMYFS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

Are the edges the same color as the back (a matte black)? or are they glossy?

Thanks for the suggestion, but that's actually exactly the case I have on right now. What I meant was a case with open top, open bottom and open buttons. But not clear.
There seems ot be some confusion on what an "Ultra thin" case actually is. let me help you guys better understand this, and why android people want huge clunky cases baffles me, but coming from a lifetime of androids, then switching to a 6s, and having a fantastic case experience... this is annoying.
This is an ultra thin case:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JH87ZSQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Notice the use of factory buttons, it does not cover the bottom of the device, yet still wraps the corners so if dropped is protected. so far the closest I have found on amazon for my Pixel is this case from this thread:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M3MQCG0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Which I ordered, and will arrive Thursday.
If there are plastic buttons that cover up the factor buttons that stick out of the case, it's safe to assume it's not an ultra thin case.
Just got that one by Maxboost and I can confirm its definitely the thinnest "case" out there right now. It's definitely a shell more than a case, and it's a bit slick, but overall I think I'm gonna stick with it. I used some fine steel wool to give it some grip, and it feels better IMO.

Bingo bingo. People don't seem to get it. I settled for the maxboost also but it looks like decent space between the camera and the case worrying me. Calicase and peel are the leaders IMHO in this thin case space. Just no love for the pixel.

Thanks for confirming. I was hoping for the ultra thin tpu. Can you add some pictures of it after the wool treatment?

Thin yet protective cases for the s8?

Hi, I will be buying my S8 very soon and am having trouble picking out a good case for it. The most important aspect of this case is that it is not very wide because the width of the s8 is pretty much the perfect size for me. However, most thin cases I find don't offer much protection, especially for face-down drops. I had this same problem with my S7 edge and really dislike the size of my current case. Do you guys have any suggestions?
Spigen thin case.
Using since release, tried others, always came back to this quickly.

NB, also tried quite a few screen protectors. Taken all of them off within 5 minutes.
Apart from this one, works with that case really well.
Wings tuck under the case round the curved edges.
Not perfect, but good.

I'm using the Tech 21 Evo Check. The transparent black looks great on my black s8+, plus it adds decent protection without making it any bulkier.
I'm using Spigen's Neo Hybrid cover and it feels very sturdy, yet slim.

+1. I got the black on shiny black and it looks like one whole phone.

Similarly, I got the Gunmetal with Orchid Grey and it looks incredible. Not one whole piece like Black, but the metal color really goes with the ambiguous Grey.

I am using same, dropped phone 3 times, approx 1 to 1.5ft landed on screen at least once, The case small lip on screen top and bottom kept the drop from affecting the screen.
I will be getting a glass screen soon but impressed with this case, recommend 100%
Hey, I have a couple of suggestions depending on the power consumption of the user. If you are satisfied with the original power capacity of the battery I recommend the Spigen's Neo Hybrid. I have it on a normal day and it is great. If you are the power user I recommend the I-blades smart case. It is quite slim and Military Drop certified. It has snapping modules that I hope many more in the future
I have the Spigen thin fit case for three days. The finish is really sub par this time. Mist Spigen cases I had where great, but in this one the grippy finish already starts to peel off. Not a major problem, but I have black flakes all over my hands now and then.
The neo hybrid, as always, takes some usage to get grippy. Out of the box it's a bit slippery...
