I have unlocked the bootloader and -s off but busybox and Su apps are saying I do not have root! any idea's?
When saying this you didn't say you rooted it but I'm assuming you did flash the Su apk. right?

I just wanted to ask. My Desire V is not rooted and if i use the unlock bootloader will it get rooted too?
You will have to root It after unlocking the bootloader.

Select the most stable rom(don't go for a latest but unstable rom)
Wipe every thing (even the recovery).
Install CWM recovery. Then flash the rom.

Look for windroid toolkit in original Android development section.
Use it to - First unlock bootloader, then flash recovery, then flash supersu.
Is that method using fastback.win?

U just have to connect your phone via pc & just click to do all the required things I mentioned above.
