Hello guys,
I guess I need help from you. I'm trying to connect my phone OnePlus One to FIAT 500 that features Blue&Me system. I've been at service several times and we just can't figure it out. All I want is to listen to music from the phone in the car.
Car radio doesn't recognize my OnePlus One. It says no source available. That happens if I'm in MTP mode. If I choose PTP, it recognizes it well, but there's no media found. And there's no media, because if I connect it to my laptop via PTP I can't create folders or put mp3 files in it. How can I fix it?
Additional facts:
I have Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom. It has internal storage that says Camera (PTP I guess) and MicroSD card. I can put music to Camera storage and it works perfectly in my car, while it doesn't from MicroSD.
If I try to put my USB stick I'm getting the same issue as with OnePlus One. My USB stick is in NTFS doesn't work, while in FAT32 does.

so i got a pioneer 5200 head unit today. it has a usb slot in the front, you can connect things to it and its suposta read them .. such as a ipod/iphone or any other phone with a sd card I WAS TOLD.
but i cant see to get it to work with my vibrant :-/ i know i had to put it in to debug mode to get it to work with my mac.. so i was not sure if i was missing something that i should of done.
any help? thanks.
Mount after plugging in?

you would need to mount the drives on the phoen as samuel said... but there could be another issue... When you mount two drives will showup (internal and SD), can the head unit process two drives?
Not ALL radios have the ability to read every phone. I have a new JVC KW-NX7000 Navi and it would not read crap from my Cliq, but would from my G1. Haven't tried it yet with the Vibrant. Try taking it out of debugging and see if that works.
Another thing to consider is that the head units often have size limitations for the partitions they can read.
It also might be getting confused with the internal storage and the sd card since I doubt it can read more than one drive at a time.
Same problem with the stock radio on my 09 civic si. I believe it to be because of the way the phone provides access to the storage cards (USB hub)

good call, i didnt think of the two drive thing.
checking there site it says
"Not every USB device is compatible with a Pioneer headunit containing an USB port. See more details at the following webpage: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/USBCompatibility. Pioneer headunits containing a USB port are compatible with USB MSC (Mass Storage Class) devices only, and are not compatible with DRM (Digital Rights Management) contents and MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) connection devices. For size and other limitations, please see Owner’s Manual. Unauthorized copying of music or other files is strictly prohibited. Optional USB extension cable is available for use with front USB ports."
how ever when going to the site they say its basically a blank page ha. ill try to take it out of debugging mode.. and if that does not work ill pop out the sd card.
i tried, taking out one of the sd cards, turning off debugging mode, changing it so i have to select if i want mass storage, or media mode.
and still i get nothing sad but oh well.. still got the aux port ha
I wish I had an aux port, fm transmitters suck ballz! I have to remove my antenna to not get static and even then, sometimes I do.

These things work great! http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-FM-MO..._3?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1284670423&sr=8-3
And the magic question is... CAN WE PUT OUR DEVICE IN USB MSC MODE? (Mass Storage Class)
I think it's one thing we really need. Almost every device is compatible with it, not with MTP!
You have to enable mass storage device and then mount it once you've plugged it into your receiver. Theres an app called Auto-mount that will do out for you automatically. It will only transfer music stored on your sd you will have to use the headphone jack for Pandora and Slacker.

I have the same problem with my Vibrant. I have an Alpine IXA-W404. When I plug in my phone via usb, it shows "searching" then "not supported" but on my head units screen it starts to show some random music files on my phone, but won't play them. I tried plugging in using two different wires, and tried with debugging on and off.
Any help? I even saw a video where the guy was doing it online with a similar setup, using a Droid and some other similar Alpine deck.
when i select "media player" from the usb settings on the phone, after about 20 seconds, the head unit starts to play a few songs but its very choppy. Any help is appreciated!

Hello. Just got my S2 a few days ago and I am still on stock F/W 2.6.35.7-19100BOK2
Now I an trying to connect the phone to my head unit (Pioneer AVH04100) via USB but no matter what I do the S2 will not mount the external Micro SD card.
I have gone into the phones settings and set up as Mass Storage but still no luck and I get the message " reading format" on my head unit but it stays like that for a few minutes then it will go to the S2's internal memory so I cant really browse any files as my Music is on the External Micro SD. Any help? Thanks
That maybe because your ICE is not compatible with android. It run on windows

MMmmm. Could be I suppose but why did it connect to the internal storage?
I just purchased a new car (a Buick Regal GS in case that matters) which has a usb input into the car entertainment center. Unfortunately, the car is not equipped with a2dp so I was hoping I would be able to plug my Atrix in via the usb and access my media that way. However, both my phone which is running jokersax's cm9 and my wife's which is running stock show up as "unsupported devices". I'm hoping someone out there has run into this and has a fix?
To follow up on this. I reformatted my external sd card and moved only 1 folder witih a few mp3s on it back to the card. I then plugged the card into my car using a microsd usb adapter and the card was read successfully. Moving the card back to my phone it was unsuccessful. I tried the multi mount app from the play store to mount only the external drive but was still unsuccessful. Obviously taking the sd card out each time I want to read it is not ideal. There must be a way to have the atrix present just the external sd card in the same manor as the usb adapter?
Totally guessing here, but when you plug it into the computer with SD card access via usb, it will mount both the internal and external SD cards. Perhaps trying to mount two volumes is throwing the car stereo for a loop. see if you can plug in the phone without the external SD card and get it to read. Also, just to verify since you didn't explicitly state it, you are using setting the phone to sd card access when you connect it to the car right?
Yes I'm using USB mass storage mode. And I've tried the other options as well just for fun. I did try without the external SD with no luck. I also tried to mount just the external card using the multi mount app with no luck. Appreciate the ideas.

Try to mount it from recovery?
Sent from my Neutrino-loaded ATRIX
Mounting USB in recovery does work... I hadn't thought of that. Not really a useable solution though as I need my phone on for calls/GPS/etc at the same time.

Then it is somewhat ROM-related. I mean the way the ROM handles USB mounts... it is different / worse than in Recovery. Try multiple ROMs, see if any works...

According to this Photon users are having issues as well. Though it may suck, I would just use the 3.5mm jack, which sounds like it is present, and use that for audio playback. Maybe try contacting Buick's support see if they have anything.
Thanks caster. I came across that thread on buickforums also. I have been using the 3.5mm jack which obviously works fine. But having the ability to charge and control the playback through the stereo controls would be a great "upgrade". A have to say for what is a very nice vehicle the built in media functionality is pretty horrid.
Digging more into why it works through recovery and not through regular usb mass storage mode in my phone... I noticed if i attach the phone to my windows machine i automatically see 2 unmounted drives appear. When i perform a usb mount through recovery the external sd card is mounted at the "first" of those 2 drive letters. If i then go and perform a mount from my phone (running jokersax cm9 5.1) the internal sd card is mounted on the first drive letter and the external sd card is mounted on the 2nd drive letter. Using the multi mount app and asking it to mount only the external drive that drive is still mounted in the 2nd position with the first being left unmounted. Is it possible that the order is significant and the car can't see past the internal card?
Success!
I decided to pursue this idea of the order of the mount points being significant. So, I decided to try switching the storage option in CM9 and reversing the purpose of my sdcards. I usually operate in use internal storage mode, but I switched cm9 to use the external card. I then copied all of the contents of the internal card to the external, formatted the internal sdcard, and moved back just one folder with a few mp3s. I then set up multimount to auto mount only card 1 (I'm not sure if this step is actually necessary), plugged in and and my car happily started playing my mp3s. Now if I can get my podcasts to sync automatically to the internal card and then resume from where it left off when I plug/unplug in the car... I'll maybe slightly forgive Buick for not including a2dp.
Thanks to everyone who chimed in and got my mind rolling in the right direction.
Hi. I have a USB port on my car which can be used to play mp3 files of aauSB flash memory through the in car stereo system. The problem is, I needed to quickly transfer some music from my phone (Xperia Z3) to the flash memory, so I used a USB OTG cable to get it of my phone and into the USB storage. Only problem is, immediately after I plugged in the USB memory, the car did not recognise it, saying it is unsupported. I stopped the engine, waited some 10-15 minutes (so I made sure the car shut down it's computer), them tried again and did not succeed. So this leaves me wondering what could have gone wrong. I know I can simply format the memory and refill it again with the data, but I am really interested in what happened: what does actually Android do to such as memory when connected to the handset? I have to mention that the cults on the memory look fine, both on my Windows PC, and on my phone. Also, of useful, I don't know what OS the car uses, but it is a 2013 BMW 3 Series. Thanks for any help.
Hi everyone I recently switched over to Android from iPhone for the first time and have been researching all kinds of stuff like crazy.
My issue is getting my music and playlists to pop up in my cars media system when I plug it in via USB. All my music and playlists are on my SD card because it won't all fit on internal storage. I'm not as knowledgeable as many of you here but after doing some research I think the problem is because I cannot put my phone into mass storage mode and adoptable storage doesn't exist on this phone. When I plug it into my car the only sound files are some weather notification tone and another type of beeping noise or something.
If there's an easy way to manage music on my SD card without having to remove it and plug it into my computer I would love to know that as well. A couple apps I tried could only connect to my internal storage for some reason.
Thanks in advance.
I use "Poweramp" (which I think is the best media player available for android):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
and "Bluetooth Connect & Play":
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cp2.start.and.play.music.player
Bluetooth Connect & Play allows me to choose what app I want to launch when I connect to the media centre in my car (Power amp). Works perfect.
Stromma
Thanks for the reply but I don't want to connect with Bluetooth. I want a USB connection for the audio quality and so that all my media shows up on my car screen so I can search through playlists and sounds with my car not the phone
Does your head unit read your iphone like a hard drive? I think your head unit need to be android compatible for that to work on the G5 but I'm not sure.
My wife just told me hers does that. I'm not sure why it wont read from your sd card.
