Hi,
There is a led next to the headphone input. When will it light? Notifications, new messagrs, blue tooth on, charging won't make it light
Please use the search function, there was a VERY long thread about the LED, and the current consensus is that it's there, but no way to use it yet.

Tapatalk sorry, no search
I think the led next to the headphone socket is the light sensor for the screen, in that it adjusts the brightness of the screen depending on the ambient light.

Nope. Its definitely an led.
It's not an led. Tear down pics in the other thread show it's not. Led is hidden in the black bezel.

Yes.. Exactly it is just above the speaker ( lower) and at the same position of front camera but in lower part of the bezel
OK, here is the deal, this has been to fully discussed and stated. with pictures (and Xrays) and I have seen the led myself. let your tablet fully drain. the then plug it into power. there is NO LED on the upper bezel. the LED is located on the bottom. in the middle, just where it is on the n7.2. it will blink a few times when the power cord is connected to a depleted tablet. that's all it does right now
EOD
is. tapatalk has a search feature. I used it to find that exact thread just now.
ADMINs please lock this redundant thread please.

Ok I was walking into my house when I received a call. I answered and since there were no lights on I noticed a red flashing led on the left side of the AT&T logo between the front can and promixty sensor. I didn't know the SGSII had a led till this point, and since it does, any way to make it brighter and configure it for SMS etc? Sorry if I'm late. News to me...lol.

Not a notification light, its the infrared led used for the proximity sensor.

Mine do, so yes.
Yes, they absolutely should light up.

They only light up if its dark or you cover the Light Sensor.
Oh...so its light out they'll be off? Ok. That explains it. Thanks!!

Ehh, not sure what you mean. They light up whenever the phone thinks they should light up, such as at night, in a dark room, etc. Heck they light up quite often even under normal house lighting. Now if you are outdoors in broad daylight, they will not turn on.

About 75% of the time under dark conditions, mine aren't lighting up either. I already swapped the phone out at my local store and it's still happening.

Same here. Coming from One X where they would light up all the time I noticed it straight away. DNA's buttons are much more dim and require really dark conditions to light up. Unfortunately there's no setting to change that..

Me too. Keep having to cover the light sensor to turn them on. Probably a software glitch. Come on HTC, fix it, and release a patch to let us reprogram the button functions while you're at it.
Hi
Just got home with my Note 2 and have been loving it except for a possible issue with my LED light. When charging and the screen goes off, the red LED comes on which is good, the issue is that it is very dim. The odd thing is that when I power the device off and leave it charging, the LED indicator then turns bright red like it is usually supposed to be(like it is on my S3). I was just wondering if someone could power off their device while charging and tell me if the red charging LED is brighter than when your device is powered off than when when it's powered on.
One other issue is I tried to charge the Note 2 using one of the many Android charging cables I have laying around and when I use anything other than the charger supplied in the box, I get an intermittent tone and the device will not allow me to turn the screen off.
Would be much appreciated if someone can test these two possible issues and let me know if theirs does it too or if it's just mine.
Thanks for your time!!
I believe the led light is sensitive to light, meaning it will be dimmer in a darker area and lighter in a lighter area.

That was it bro, thank you!! I was doing all of this is a dim environment and after reading your post I grabbed a flashlight and shined it at the front of the Note 2 and at first no change....but then all of a sudden it switched to the bright red LED. Big time thanks man I was not wanting to have to go back to the store and exchange again. I already had to exchange the first of for what was either a stuck pixel or dust under the screen. This one the screen is perfect so I want to keep it.
Can you or anyone else test a random charger for me and see how the Note 2 reacts. Wondering if this thing needs to be used with the supplied charger to not make this sound and the screen staying on. The odd thing is I just tried my Nexus 7 charger and it works without issue but all my other chargers act wonky with the Note 2. Again man thank you for your time to post it helped me out big time

Used my gnex charger and supplied one and both work fine
on old gingerbread phones without led notifications there used to be a kernel maybe Franco don't recall that had the ability to flash the capacitive buttons. That would be key on our G anyone know if its possible?
from my Nexus7 while my Optimus rests
Bln support. Built into kernel. Then the app will work
the best phone ever
Yes that was it I remember the app and the kernel dependency now if someone would do this lol

Crazy enough there is an app that can do it. It's working on mine. You wouldn't expect it to work though but it does. The app if Light Flow. You have to enable the app to control the buttons light. It does work but seems to cause a full wakelock.

From my understanding that only Samsung phones can use bln. But on another note why would you want that when we have a very bright led on the power button?
Edit: while that would look clean with the front buttons for notification that would give some drain battery drain not worth it to me since we already have a led light for notification. While wouldn't be my first choice for the location, they should have done it like the sprint model.

Aside from the side location, the other issues with that notification light are 1) the fact that it only blinks ever 30 seconds or so, with no option to change the frequency, and 2) instead of an RGB LED, apparently LG only put a red one in, thus making it impossible to differentiate between different notifications.
If frequency can be fixed, I'd be happy. Otherwise, getting the capacitive buttons to each indicate a certain notification seems like a great alternative.

There would be so little battery drain you would never notice. Also, if you turn off the red led and only use the front capacitive leds the "drain" would be equaled out. I used BLN before and it is amazing. Would love to see it on the LGOG.

Well I notice it blink every 5-6 seconds for a minute or so. But in a dark or lit room I can see it just fine. Only thing I don't like that it on the side should have been on the front like the sprint model. And still don't see why they made the phone different anyway. Just glad the att model has the sd card slot

Does Moto Z come with notification light at all?
I've heard 2 different answers, can anyone who owns one confirm this pls.
i've noticed moo g4 plus there is no mention of led light but when charging there's a hidden light, see link below. Perhaps the same coud be true for moto z.
http://www.ubergizmo.com/2016/05/moto-g4-plus-has-hidden-led-light/
Z owners try the following
Turn phone off and insert charger.
G4 plus has a hidden notification light, next to the fingerprint reader is only visible trying the above method.
no lights, when phone is on you need to wave your hand over the sensor next to the FP reader and the screen will light up with your notification
It's only the fourth year it's been this way.
How many threads do you need to post the same question? Is it really necessary to post in the Z force section too!?!? One is enough imo. Senior member too..

I have had a dim red light illuminate on the right side of the finger print scanner closer to the right edge then the scanner but no directly on the edge. I have the white Z, so the areas are much more evident. I was baffled as to why it was illuminated or exactly what it was and shortly after seeing it it was gone. I thought for a moment it was some sort of IR thing, but no idea. Very dim but clearly visible as a red light in a dark room. I've tried to see what I could do to make it reappear but no clue what brought it on.

Possible notification light on MOTO Z Play
I tried to flash TWRP recovery of other devices into my MOTO Z Play hoping to find a way to root. However all the recoveries of previous MOTO devices are not compatible, and after flashing a small white light located right to the speaker bar blinked. Don't know wether this light was evoked by TWRP recovery or error in fastboot, and why it didn't appear when phone was on.

I've seen the same white light after updating last night. It seems to be similar to the green light on the Moto x 2014 I have. So maybe after cracking the bootloader unlock code and rooting there will be some function. But it probably won't work as you are hoping. But as has been mentioned it's been this way for years on these devices.
Waiting for more answers...
I don't know why Motorola didn't just activate by default, perplexing decision to include some sort of notification light but not activate it.

I don't like LED Notifications, but as Moto Display doesn't keep the screen on when notifications are received at least the LED should be working...

No it's to the left of that. It's behind something
I have the moto Z and can confirm the white light, I have seen it when flashing a firmware and rebooting I think.
But is like mentioned, back of something.
I have the Moto Z Force. It is right near the speaker grill on the right side. Just got a security update for nougat and it rebooted and for a second there was a tiny white light there. Kinda like the droid turbo I had, but that didn't turn on till I dropped it in water lol.
