for the second question I think u'r problem is wifi or mobile data is disconnecting after u lock the screen..If u using wifi then go to settings and in settings u will see keep wifi on during sleep and tick always.
Check for any battery saver app you are using which is turning off your wifi on screen lock

I've been try to extend the life of my battery, and one of the things I have done is set the SETTINGS/WIFI/ADVANCED "keep WIFI on during sleep" to "never".
I make this change, but most times when I go back into the settings later on, it's changed back to "Always"
Anybody offer a clue as to why this might be happening?
Thanks.

no idea mate it shouldn't do as i have mine set to never and it stays like that, have you been flashing ROM's or anything like that maybe that could explain it!
No, not really.
The only thing I've done is rooted it. Apart from that, It's still got stock Samsung Rom on it.
Just checked again, and even tried setting it to "only when plugged in, but after 15 mins or so, it's back to "always" again.

For anyone else who might come across the same issue.
After doing a factory reset, and putting apps back on one at a time, I found out it was DoubleTwist Airsync, that was changing the "WIFI sleep" option.
Apparently, the developer knows this, but wants it to work that way.
So it's now gone for me
But you won't lose too much battery on an 7 hr sleep with the always on setting.
I go to sleep with my S3 on 98% and wake up with 92-94% battery left even with received messages from 3 email accounts and other notifications.

I keep mine on always. I lose 3% during an 8hr sleep and it'll automatically connect to my carrier data when my network is not in range. Sure beats turning it off and on a handful times a day.
Weird is that WiFi is active in either option you shoose during sleep. Even if you choose NEVER, open your battery use stats and you'll see that WiFi was active all the time during sleep. I cannot understand why is this issue so underrated here on XDA forums. Or is it some kind of misinterpreting from my side???

Yup afaik, choosing never will produce a wakelock to check the phone state and keeping it on will cause it to constantly scan even if connected to a network. Both choices will eat up battery.
I see many threads suggesting to just manually turn it off, preventing scanning, wakelocks and syncing all together.

So it is normal that if i choose Never in wifi sleep policy phone, i find the wifi always on in battery stats? This question is not so clear...
Is there any explanation of wifi toggles by author... Google?

I'm not so sure if you will see wifi in the battery stats as I think wifi processes are part of the Android system in settings >battery.

I use the app keep Wifi alive. It pings my server to ensure I don't lose a connection. I the only thing I see missing with it is that my email sync stops until I go to mobile data.

Hello everyone,
I have big problems with battery drain! When I look into battery in settings I see Android OS causing huge battery drain. I am on stock Ics, tried many things - rooting, changing kernel, uninstalling bloatware with Titanium, changing baseband ... Nothing seems to help! I've realized that Android OS is active while WiFi on... When I switch off WiFi, battery life gets very good (or normal) and Android OS stop draining the battery.
Does somebody have same issue or knows THE solution? Except putting CM9 or other non stock Rom, would like ti keep Sony's Rom.
P.s. My girlfriend's Xperia Ray has the exact same problem!?!

Turning automatic synchronisation off & reducing screen brightness might help

Yeah that's probably syncing problems. But just in case get BetterBatteryStats, let it run for a few hours and post me the logs.

WiFi on always eats far more battery than WiFi off.
If you've turned off all synchronizations already then it's just purely the constant search for the WiFi network and back and forth polling needed to maintain the connection being handled by the Android OS that's eating your battery and I'm afraid that would be perfectly normal then and not something one can fix.

Of course, but as you can see in the post above, what is strange is that when I was out of home (the first 3 hours) with wifi on the battery was doing fine even that the phone was probably searching networks all the time, and since I returned home (last 3-4h) the battery drain started again...
Shouldn't it be opposite? When connected to home wifi it should stop searching for it. So it's probably a sync problem, but whatever I don (Sync on or off) it's the same...
Could also be a clash with your router.....
Try changing channel see if that helps, if not you may be stuck with it or go back to gb

Get BetterBatteryStats somewhere from XDA (google it) start the app, leave your phone for a few hours and then go back into the app, press the settings key on your phone and choose dump to file. A .txt file will appear in the root of your sd card, attach the file to a post. Hope I can help

here it is, but seems have worked only 7h, while I was not home connected to Wi-Fi , so I'll post once more tomorrow...
Well judging by this it might actually be normal for android os to consume as much battery, because you haven't really used your phone much. The battery drain you are seeing on the battery settings is simply android os is draining the most out of your phone relative to other processes using much less.

Thanks to everybody, especially @mpiekp! Finally it seems that Wi-Fi router channel was the problem, since I changed it Android OS stopped, I can see in battery stats that it wasn't active since. The same for my girlfriend's Xperia Ray!
I'll be checking it from time to time in the next couple of days, just to be sure...
I love XDA!

Hi,
When I turn data on, after about 1 minute, the phone shuts itself off.
Is it a kernel, software or battery issue? Happened on X10Sv9 and on Donut's (Ferakernel and DoomKernel).

Does it shutdown when data is turned on directly after you install the ROM and Kernel and before you install and modify your user environment???
Have you configured your APN details?
Using xReccovery you could backup your phone and then step through the process of installing your environment; with xrecovery backups along the way.
Then when you identify the process/application/configuration causing the problem you can restore the previous backup and start from there.
Does this happen when you use a standard SEUS fresh install with no modifications???
Does this only happen when you install an overlocked/modified Kernel????

As far as I can notice, as soon as I use data, camera, or any other, lets say 'heavy' stuff, it turns itself off. If it occurs 2-4 times, the battery starts showing 1%, and then it begins going up till about the previous percentage.

Odp: [Q] Phone turns itself off
I had exactly the same issue. I didn't use data so.much, but the phone started to shutting down even on 50%. I continued using it and it was definitely battery issue. The battery got bigger, so i couldn't close the back anymore. I have bought a bew one and everything came back to normal behavior .

I simply removed all the VPN saved. It helped. But now I won't be able to connect to the internet at all. That's fine with me. You can try what the above user has suggested ...try to shut Location. See if it works.
Thanks.
I had this issue, turns out it was an app from the carrier that forces to connect through mobile data connection to check for status or something.
I just uninstall the app and use their mobile web instead, it's been fine since

thank u so much all of your suggestion i've done and successfull blocking any mobile data internet from my phone
and i added restriction app background data each running apps that consume internet through mobile data,:victory::victory:
During set up you are asked if you would like to allow apps to access to data even when turned off you need to un-check that option.
Basically title.Charger in question works fine with other phones. this has started recently, maybe after I flashed pico gapps.
Logs and screenshots attached.please advise.

Check your settings, in some phones I have seen settings that don't allow the screen to turn off while charging.
But, if that is not your problem, install Power Nap and Amplify, these apps will limit all the wakelocks that keep your phone awake while charging.
