[Q]gpe 5.0.1 to sense 5.0.1 RUU - AT&T HTC One (M8)

So the developer sense RUU released and i'm currently on GPE RUU i'm wondering do I just change my cid and mid and just run the RUU or do I need to do other steps?

Conflicting report on converting back to Sense ROM GPE, whether you can just change CID/MID and flash the RUU; or other say you need to run the firmware zip first, then RUU.

I just converted my AT&T M8 back to developer edition from GPe RUU. I am aware of the conflicting info on converting back from GPe. So I tried to run the sense RUU but it said wrong file or something, even though I changed my cid to Dev edition cid already. Then I installed the developers edition firmware and ran the developers edition RUU and it ran fine. Hope this helps.

Good day friends, I am currently in lollipop 5.0.1 , just shrunk to GPE and I want to install Android Revolution HD 34.0, sense again , I cid GOOGL001 , I could indicate how do I reinstall ARHD , thank you very much .

Advice for restoring AT&T Sense with GPE hboot
Through ignorance, I've gotten myself into a bind and would appreciate some help.
I have an M8, CWS__001 configured with:
- Unlocked Bootloader
- HBoot 3.19.0.0000
- Partitioned for GPE
- S-on
- Most of Sense installed (ran out of room)
- TWRP 2.8.4
- Full ADB and Fastboot access as well as full TWRP functionality
My dilemma is that I can't install GPE because it fails the signature check, can't install Sense because there is not enough room on the partition, and haven't been able find an RUU.zip to install with an Hboot newer than 3.19.0.0000 to restore to stock.
I think my potential solutions are:
-1- a method to set S-off without a functional OS installed, then install GPE
-2- an up-to-date, signed RUU to flash the entire thing back to stock
-3- a sense appropriate firmware (502) that has a more up-to-date HBoot than I have now (1.58.502.1.zip from Android Revolution HD's Firmware collection)
-4- re-partition manually to make space for sense
At this point I have spent several days on the problem, learned a lot about what all the different numbers in the firmware/ROM filenames represent and, in my opinion, have done due diligence researching my options. I could really use some help either with one of my potential solutions or others I haven't considered. As always, links would be appreciated.

Yeah! Just the act of writing my post put me on track to find the solution. I found another guy who did exactly the same thing (Other guy with same problem). His solution was to install Skydragon GPE through TWRP and it seems to be working! I just called my own house!!!! I'm going to try this ROM out for awhile and see how I like it before I try to screw it up again; three days without a phone sucked.

Skydragon works because it's small enough to fit into the smaller partitions. If you want to set your phone back to stock you need to lock your bootloader and flash the signed encrypted firmware that matches what your phone last had. Then do a factory reset from either hboot or stock recovery. This will resize your partitions back to the 2.6gig needed for system. After doing this you can either unlock and flash TWRP and a stock sense rom -or- flash the current RUU that matches your system.
I help guys out on the VZW side of the house revert back from GPE partition sizing all the time so if anyone needs a hand I can usually help using team viewer.

[Q] How do i convert an at&t One from Developer's Edition back to at&t stock

Hi all,
I was hoping for a little help. I got my phone last summer on At&t and immediately converted the Developer's Edition. The phone is currently rooted,
has s-off and is on a KitKat Rom.
The above said, would I be able to get back to stock? I've Googled it and can only find instructions on Stock to Developer's, not the other way around.
TIA

Thank you! All though I have email notification set up for replies, I never received one. Interesting is that my CID remains the At&t and i currently have s-off. When I RUU.exe (I downloaded the same the other night), I get an error and it restarts my phone. I'm wondering if it's because I have a KitKat Rom already installed and the software number is slightly higher than the RUU? The software number is 4.18.502.7 (my phone). I think the RUU is 502.1.
Thanks again,

I tried as you have suggested your decrypted file. Unfortunately, I get an error when trying to run it via ADB in fastboot.
I've rooted when I first got the phone last summer using Revone method/tool. All worked fine and i had continued updating the OS a few times with stock rooted phones.
The last that i updated to was a stock rooted odex kitkat ROM found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2676986
Only thing that seemed wrong was that I couldn't reinstall any of my apps requiring root. The error that would pop up is "Could not install to SD card".
Now, I have to say that I noticed that with some updates, it seems that new ROMS don't clean up the old files/framework even after fully wipes. It seems to back it up in some folders (sdcard0, sdcard00, sdcard000 etc). All though the sdcard folder seems clean and refreshed, the others mentioned had all my old files in there. Since I've updated to kitkat, I can no longer view these folders (I used to use Root Explorer, but now since the kitkat install - I can't). What caused me to notice was the fact that my storage, in the 'Other:' section, shows 20GB out of 32. So, I used ES File Mgr to see if I can create some space by deleting the so-called backup folders. I think that was a bad mistake because now, even after a full data wipe, I still can't:
* Install root-required apps
* flash the zip file you provided
* use the exe version of the zip you provided (still get an error with that as well)
* Clear the 20gb of data I don't need
* get back to the At&t carrier brand from the Developer's Edition that i switched it to back last summer.
Fortunately the phone works fine, but is this hopeless? Anything I can do to get this going again (really thing I messed things up)
Is there anything else I can try?
thank you,

[Q] Help with my att htc m8

Hi,
Can someone help me please. I am looking for a rom for my AT&T US, HTC One M8. I'm running 4.4.2, Hboot 3.16, Radio 1.16..., and 1.58.502.1 firmware.I have the 3.4 kernel. I am unlocked, TWRP latest custom recovery, and rooted with SuperSU. I am S-On. I can't S-Off and can't update my Firmware. I need it to work in the US, so what rom can I flash that will work. When I go to Dev sites every rom I see only has the 4.4.3/4.4.4 versions with the new Firmware, for my device. When I try to flash .zip's through TWRP, Aroma gives me a success, but it auto reboots and I get stuck in boot loop... I am able to recover the stock image, but can't get a custom rom to stick. I have watched hours of videos and read hundreds of pages of threads. HELP
Thank You,

There are 4.4.2 roms still available but your best bet is pay the $25 for sunshine s-off utility that way you can update your firmware and run whatever rom/kernel you want.
If you've tried the flash various ROMs, and they all won't boot, then the problem is not what ROM, but something else.
adb erase cache
Then, flash recovery again. Possibly re-download recovery, to make sure the file is not corrupt.

^^ I did that when I rooted the phone. I used the HTCDev to unlock it. I used Fastboot and adb in cmd from my PC to install TWRP and the Recovery file and clear the cache. Should I reflash recovery again???
I have wiped and tried factory resets before installing a rom. The problem is that I can't find the download link for an old rom for my specific phone. I need the 1.58.502.1 version (Don't I ?), so that I don't have to change my Firmware through S-OFF... When I find a rom that did make one that would work on my device, they have already updated the OP download link with their latest version to run with the updated AT&T 4.4.3/4.4.4 and 2.22.1540.3.
* I have the newest TWRP installed with the 24MB Recovery.img. I have SU installed with privileges. The phone passes rooted tests. Phone is S-ON... *

I just told you to adb wipe cache and flash recovery again. Why are you asking me this? A lot of issues with TWRP not flashing ROMs can be solved by wiping cache and flashing again (probably just a bad initial install).

Any ROM that is not 2.xx Sense based.
I haven't checked every single thread/link, but most (if not all) 1.54 and 1.58 based Sense ROMs on my Index thread seem to be working:

This also includes the stock rooted 1.58 ROM, if you wish to go that route.

You sure? I haven't seen sunshine fail for anybody, much less AT&T, which hasn't had their software updated for sometime now. Regardless of how new the device is, its still the same 1.58 software, which is 3 months old at this point.
firewater, on the other hand is known to fail for more recent AT&T versions.

So for instance on your Index, I followed the link to ViperOneM8 1.6.0. This takes you to the Dev page for that rom. I follow the page to downloads that directs me another page. Along the way I find out that it looks like ViperOneM8 1.8 is the last update before 2.xx. The download page only has the most recent ViperOneM8_2.2.0.zip, or they offer the OTA increments of each previous version. Those aren't large enough to be the whole rom. How do I find the legacy full roms?

I think you picked one of the few (maybe the only one) that doesn't link to an actual 1.xx ROM. Just pick any other one.
EDIT: Oh, wait InsertCoin also. Will update the Index to show those as 2.22 ROMs.
Devs usually don't keep their legacy versions posted. Most you can do is ask if another member has the zip.

Thank you for all of the information. I guess the roms develop faster than I can get a phone for them It baffles me that a version for each baseline of a current device isn't listed. I guess I should flash back to the most current stock rom and wait for the OTA from AT&T. I might try the S-Off for $25, but I have seen a lot of chatter about newly bought M8 ATT devices not working. Something about them having a patch from HTC...

[Q] Soft bricked M8, looking for some help

Howdy folks...so my buddy picked up an M8 off of Craigslist that was apparently running some sort of vanilla android. It is unlocked and S off..he attempted to flash a Sense ROM and ended up in a boot loop. He's the kind of guy that shouldn't be doing such things...
This is where I come in to the rescue. After some reading this afternoon, I've come to the conclusion he must have a GPE converted phone. I personally have no experience with this device (G2 Verizon owner) but I'm pretty versed in fast boot and ADB.
The phone is currently in fast boot. This is all it has. If I attempt to boot it into recovery, it loops.
Can anyone help me get this thing running by pointing me in the right direction? Ideally, I'd like to have it fully AT&T stock.
My current plan was to push a recovery via fast boot and flash a GPE ROM off of SD. Will this work?
I just don't want to mess the phone up any further.
m8
Can you boot phone into bootloader? If so connect phone and type adb oem getvar all.
Should give you details of cid and rom required to get phone working again.
Googling ruu for cid will help so example is m8 ruu htc_001.

OK...so turns out the phone indeed was converted to a GPE device, which caused his problem after attempting to flash a Sense ROM...I successfully flashed TWRP via fast boot and installed a GPE rom...now, just need to go about converting it back for him.

Change cid to super cid 11111111 (7 ones) by putting phone into fastboot , connect and typing fastboot oem writecid 1111111.
This allows phone to have most stock htc roms to be written to phone.
Find stock rom you require and flash which will revert to stock for you.
Hope this helps!

It appears the OP's phone had the full GPE conversion done to it, therefore changing the partitions, and that alone will prevent Sense ROMs for booting. Flashing a ROM in itself will not change the partitions back the Sense partition scheme.
Easiest way to revert is probably RUU. You're right in the OP needs to post getvar all data before all the steps can be laid our correctly. In short, OP needs the proper CID or SuperCID, and relock bootloader (if unlocked) or S-off to run RUU.

Flashing a zip of the RUU isn't necessary. OP can either flash the official exe file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/general/htc-one-m8-ruu-m8ul-4-4-3-t2860423

Yes.
Keep in mind, if you are s-on, you need to have the proper CID or SuperCID. Plus, you can only run an RUU with equal or greater hboot number than the hboot presently installed on the phone.
S-off should bypass both these issuees (CID and hboot version check).

Softbricked my ATT M8 recovered now new issues

I used One_M8_All-In-One_Kit_v to flash a new recovery lower version at that and now i do have a bootable recovery. Problem is now i didn't backup like a dumb arse my working OS and flashed a bad one or maybe the radio or some crap needed to be done first since it was going from 4.4.2 to 5+. In short all i have is recovery and sideload and every rom i download fails to sideload on the phone side and says sucessful on the pc cmd window. Need help with this please

Wipe data, cache, dalvik, put the appropriate ROM for your carrier/build on SD card or root of internal storage and flash. All else fails run an RUU, bring you back to 100% stock then you can properly reinstall the custom recovery of your choice.

SkyDragon M8 Sense Rom installs but doesn't boot (tried 2 versions of this rom 700mb and a 1.6gb), believe i tried a couple other roms in my phones section there's only like 9 of them there. I have the stock RUU but fails to detect the phone and fails i think it's meant to sense a turned on functional phone i don't see any kind of recovery method with the stock ruu. All i want is a rom to work with Straight talk the stock os even being unlocked and rooted with su still shoved the default APN down my throat(I even paid 2.99$ for the SQLlite and deleted all other APNs still won't let me check off a APN profile i created as default) making my signal on ST flakey and couldn't get mms to work just picture txting wasn't working. So i went full on like my old HTC One X but dived head first too fast didn't backup my old OS and didn't know firewater was gone till i was at that step of the procedure and it was too late Oh and using TWRP 2.7.1.0 it's the highest i can use before it won't boot.

Boot into fastboot, check device manager (if youre on windows) for any unknown drivers and install them if you can. Then run the RUU I posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/help/100-stock-4-4-4-ruu-t3017594 which would update you to 4.4.4.

Ok TY i'll try that soon as it downloads, i did finally get RUU_M8_UL_K44_SENSE60_ATT_SECURITY_Cingular_US_1.58.502.1_Radio_1.16.21331931.LA11G_20.31A.4145.02L_release_368350_signed_2
To see the phone and no progress bar shows up on the phone and the program errors out, i even did a full system wipe before i tried it again still to no avail.

You'll have to setup your APN and mms message size settings for straight talk, that should fix the text messaging problems.

No matter what message app i try i can't send pictures or large txts my mms is borked and to make matters worse when i installed this rom i must of removed the stock HTC messaging app so i can't find any settings to set the mms size limits. I'd like to figure out how to put the stock messaging app back on the phone without redoing the whole OS
Using Handcent and hangouts and i see no size limit options within the apps or anywhere in the phone settings. Looked up my phone specifically and where the option/s is supposed to be the said section of options is not even there.
If you've got a stock rom downloaded to your computer or sd card you can unzip it and look in system app folder and find the htc messaging apks. Then just install them as system apps and fix permissions.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
Before i try and fix my obvious other problems does anyone know how to fix a bad flash of TWRP? I'm used to just adb command line flashing it and never had a issue before on my HTC One X, but seems it a was bad idea and it landed on boot partition and is causing glitches. is there a stock boot i can flash or what do i need?

Why do you think that partition, in particular? If you are talking about boot.img, that gets re-flashed any time your flash a ROM.
Try fastboot erase cache, and flash recovery by fastboot. If Clockwork doesn't work, try TWRP.
If you indeed have some corrupted partition(s), your best bet is to RUU. You are non-specific about what error codes, so its hard to help you troubleshoot why the RUU failed. Try a more updated RUU, such as 2.23.

Error 155 Unknown Error it says, do i need to relock the bootloader? I could never find a way to S-Off the device so idk if its that or corrupted partition like you said but all my services on my phone crash constantly. But that's better then aokp_task650_m8_kitkat_5.13.2014 that one won't even make it through setup the services crash so often the badseed rom is the only other rom i found that is actually usable. Oh my RUU is 2.0.16 how can i find the newest one for my HTC One M8?

You always need to relock the bootloader to run RUU with s-on. No exceptions.
Hopefully this will clear up your RUU problem, although the RUU number you just supplied above doesn't make any sense (doesn't correspond to any RUU for this device) Where did you find it, and its not what you referenced in Post #5 above.
CavyS already supplied a link for the "latest" AT&T RUU in Post #4 above. Although be aware, that if you are successful in running the latest RUU, it will render sunshine unable to achieve s-off. I suggest RUU to 1.58 or 2.23 (if you want s-off), as those should still be supported by sunshine.

My phone is running perfect now in a locked down carrier branded and bloatware way lol. Thanks guys, anyway i can tell if sunshine will work on my phone?

I think that is the version of the actual installer software (.exe) not the ROM version it will install on your phone. Kitkat for AT&T would be either 1.58 or 2.23. That number will be in the actual file name of the RUU, so just look there (actually a much longer string of numbers starting with 1.58 or 2.23, but I've abbreviated them for convenience).

You install the sunshine APK, run it, and sunshine will tell you whether it can s-off the phone or not. You won't be charged unless it can successfully s-off the phone. I haven't heard of any folks here that got charged, and sunshine couldn't s-off the device.

Wow thanks for the info! Before i try this can after S-OFF/rooting/SU can i install the unlocked/developer ruu from HTC and get HTC OTA and get away from this bloated carrier branded crap? So much in the forums and i can't find a answer to this question anywhere.

htc one m7 stock rom possibility

hey, ihave a htc one m7 on 4.2.2 android ice cold project rom and ive been trying to go back to stock htc sense rom but downgrade from stock 5.0.2 and I cant seem to do it, ive tried ota update zip files, stock odexed rom but nothing seems to work, I got the stock rom on but then the touch screen didn't work so had to go back to aicp. I also cant get s-off as ive got hboot 1.61 and cant afford to buy sunshine.
any help would be much appreciated thanks.
You need the RUU then. The reason touch won't work is because the firmware is not matched to the OS. This is a common HTC thing. You have to find the RUU that corresponds to your carrier or region as well as being the same or newer than the firmware you are on now since you are S-On. You must relock your bootloader to install the RUU while being S-On as well.

could you help me find then compatible RUU please? I don't know what one id use. I was hoping to downgrade from lollipop but I don't think ill be able to.
ive went back to the os that didn't work with touch and am going to do and ota update, but how would I get my device to allow ota updates again? do I have to put the recovery back to stock as well as relock bootloader or is there more to it?
You'll need fastboot to make sure you are getting the correct version. If you do not have it, get it from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790 then boot to the bootloader and run this command:
fastboot getvar all
Post results but remove your IMEI and serial number.
You definitely can not downgrade while S-On. You won't need to worry about OTAs as the RUU will do everything for you. If you do want to enable OTAs after you get everything matched up, then yes, you would need to leave the system and the recovery stock.
would there be anyway for me to downgrade then? ive tried flashing other firmware and so far I might have got it, I just need to wait for my phone to charge till I know
You can flash an older rom, but a true downgrade with everything matched is not possible while being S-On.

what rom could I flash?
How could I know without knowing which M7 you are using and what firmware is on it? I've already provided instructions for what was needed for additional info.
