[Q] s5830i loops since update from Samsung - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm a total novice with phones.
My daughter was downloading a update from 'Whatsapp', it went to playstore and since then it loops.
It loops from turn on, through the S5830i logo then Samsungs logo. Then it loops all over again and can only turn it off by removing battery (which gets hot).
Tried the recovery mode, clearing the cache, reset to factory, my SIM nothing just the loop.
Tried the Download mode, which says ODIN MODE, PRODUCT NAME: GT-S5830i, CUSTOM BIN DOWN: NO(0 counts), CURRENT BIN: SAMSUNG OFFICAL. Beneath that it says: Downloading..... Do not turn off target !! stays like that for ever...
Tried connecting via Kies, no joy saying to insert SIM when one is already there.
Unsure if this is as you call Bricked or what to do next.
thanks

Anyone know which Firmware should be used for UK also a Rom download.
thanks

@onegalaxy, For official stock firmware the only reliable source is sammobile.com database. Just go there and choose firmware from top side and you will be directed to another page with couple of choices. If you know your original PDA/CSC/MODEM choose check firmware,, not so sure ,, choose firmware database , which requires fewer queries such as your preference country/region , model and OS type. (Android 2.3.6) model GT-s5830i
Following post are very helpful for your future troubleshooting and implantation of your Stock firmware over Odin,, some useful hints here for driver related issues ( Kies is useless, you have to do it all by yourself to get your Ideal Final result )

Thank you for the links and info.
All sorted..
thanks

Just hold vol up home and power until the screen goes on and there is a menu (recovery menu) and just go wipe data/xxx something and go yes, you navigate eith volume buttons and confirm with home button

Galaxy s 2 wont start

Hello ppl,
i got a big problem, i hope someone can help me.
A friend of mine, gave me his galaxy s 2 to fix it. It just showed the battery icon with a circle running into it.
I fixed it with the JIG and got into download mode.
Everything is fine until now, even the flash with Odin shows success, but the phone just wont start up.
It doesnt matter what i do, or flash, its stuck in the samsung galaxy s II screen.
Download Mode is working, but Recovery not. When i try to enter the recovery mode, the phone hangs with the same screen like above.
Is there anything i could try to fix this?
Thank you
geminga
Okay relax, as you can get into download mode, there's a chance that you can still fix it.
I think you're running the wrong kernel or modem here.
I advice you to freshly install a new rom, and then install a CF-Rooted kernel that allows you to get back into recovery.
Once you got that worked out, get into recovery and select Wipe/factory reset. It should boot now.
If this still does not solve your problem, install VillainRom 2.0 using the process described in the thread. I had the bootloop problem too, but Wiping, Flashing and Wiping again did the trick for me.
Thank you mate I will try this later. Im will report if I was successful. (i hope so)
I flashed 2.3.4 ROM with Odin and then CF-Recovery but i can still not access recovery mode. It shows the yellow triangel but still hangs with the samsung galaxy screen.
I think that phone has become a nice paperweight...
As 2.3.4 is a test release i would try older stable firmware .
Flash a stock 2,3,3 rom via Odin and see if it boots .

Is there something for Samsung that completely replaces everything including ROM,recovery and such things?
From my desire I know, if a RUU can't boot your phone it is 100% bricked. So I need something like that for that sgs2, to be sure that this is no hardware failure...
I will try some flashes and report after that.

what i would do is install one of these carrier branded ROMs http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
and see if it boots, if it does then flash the cfroot [specific to the carrier version you choose e.g. KF2] make sure thats the right one. that should give you recovery as prodygee has said. then do a full wipe, system, data, cache, dalvik and reboot.
afaik this should work. that's worked for me on numerous bootloops!
Hope this helps, Rumble

THIS WILL FIX YOUR ISSUE AS I WENT THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEM YOU ARE EXPERIENCING.
WARNING IT WILL DELETE YOUR DATA. IF YOUR DATA IS IMPORTANT FIND ANOTHER MEANS...
You MUST have Kies full installed on the desktop/laptop and make sure you're updated to the latest version.
1) Boot your note into download mode(hold down volume button at the same time as the power button, let go of power button when you feel
your phone vibrate but keep holding down button until you see a prompt to push up volume button to continue or down volume button to
cancel, hit the up button your are now in download mode.)
2) Connect your Note to the laptop with factory USB cable
2) Launch Kies on your desktop (full version)
4) Choose Tools, Firmware upgrade & initialization
a) While in download mode, pull battery and enter the S/N & model name (ALL CAPS!!)
b) It will prompt to initialize to original settings. Click "YES"
c) It will prompt to initialize the latest version. Click "YES"
d) It will download the firmware upgrade components (DO NOT DISCONNECT THE DEVICE!!)
5) It will prompt for firmware upgrade and initialization.
a) Click check box for reading above information
b) Click your choice if you want your information saved on Samsung Kies corporate servers (I choose WITHOUT saving).
Just kick back, wait and the phone will update to the original out of box software with the latest updates already applied. No issue with anything, no tripping of the flash counter, and Samsung/AT&T knows now different (if you tripped the counter back before performing this, or performed the process of installing CWM recovery through ADB as to NOT trip the flash counter when changing recovery).
This is the EXACT process I did, and had an AT&T tech verify and it's not detectable I was rooted, and was running a custom ICS ROM. Now, I will qualify that I DID the Recovery installation with ADB so that I didn't trip the counter with the Recovery installation. So if they are able to check the binary information to detect modification even with flash counter reset, that's out of my hands and can't confirm or deny.

You cannot root an ice rom with a gb kernel. You need to find a rooted ics kernel and flash it with Odin. Keep in mind it needs to be an Odin flashable .tar. if you need help finding one pm me and I will direct you to one.

Rooting is very easy and quite low risk as long as your getting your information from reliable sources. The xda community is very knowledgeable and generous. MOST of the information you find here can be taken to heart.

We were all noobs at one time. Hell I still find things that I wonder about. I used to be really scared of bricking my phone because I soft bricked my international sgs2 the first time and thought I was screwed. Now I know that its pretty hard to hard brick a galaxy series phone

[Q] Soft brick & Odin flash always fails, what next?

Hi all,
I followed the guide in this forum to the letter, however the firmware flash fails after a few seconds. Now when it powers up, I no longer see the Samsung boot screen, I have this message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies". And I can no longer access the recovery menu by pressing up volume, power & home.
I contacted the previous owner to get some more info, and found out that the phone was originally from another country (UK) and I had attempted to flash it with Australian firmware. Not sure whether this is the cause of the current issue...?
So now I've got the UK firmware, however each time I attempt to flash it, after a few seconds it fails.
In the "Downloading" dialogue on the phone, I can see information against every field: Product name (GT-I9300), Custom Binary (1), Current Binary (Samsung official), and System Status (Official).
Based on this and what I've read here, this is a good sign (ie: software recoverable, and not hardware failure). However I'm stumped on the flashing situation. I've tried Odin 3.07 and 3.04.
Appreciate any advice.
Try the rescue firmware from a sticky in general forum, follow the instructions exactly.

[Q] Unrooted, stock and soft-bricked(??) after official OTA update - is there a way?

hi,
For a day now I've been trying to figure out the way around my problem and I couldn't. But I'm just a beginner, I hope you guys can help.
short version: After official OTA update my stock, unrooted GT-I9300 boots only until one of the logo screens. I want badly to keep apps data, especially sms'es and voice recorder files. Downloading the update via KIES in download mode repeats update procedure but then again the boot ends on samsung logo screen (the one with just 'samsung' letters if that matters).
longer version: I've been using stock ROM forever and lived happily with stock ROM on Android 4.3 (except for laaags) Yesterday I went to check if an update is available - it was, so I downloaded it. It was all fine, I got to 'optimizing app 222/222' screen then the phone rebooted. It went through GT-I9300 screen, carrier screen, and in the end it stuck on pulsing LED and letters on the screen: 'SAMSUNG'. And now it happens each time I turn the phone on. I can still go to download mode easily and to recovery mode too.
I've reinstalled the update used KIES (2.6.3.14044_14) with the phone in download mode but that gets me to the same place (optimizes all 222 aps, reboots and hangs up at the same sceen).
Is there a way to have this fixed while keeping apps data?
this thread gives me hope there is, since there are 'NO WIPE' files, but sadly this one is only for US Verizon, not international..
(as a newb I can't post links but it's there) - s3forums site, thread galaxy-s3-hacking-mods/3292-guide-unbrick-restore-your-galaxy-s3-back-100-stock
my device:
Samsung Galaxy S III GT-I9300 (International), carrier - Orange Poland
Android 4.3, no root, Stock ROM
There is a good chance you only need to factory reset the phone but in that you will lose your data. You can try odin and flashing the latest stock rom for your phone (orange poland). Do not flash any other carrier, do not do anything with a pit file. Do not attempt to go back to the old firmware unless it was an earlier 4.3.
Get your carrier update from samsung updates and a copy of odin.
Put your phone in download mode via vol down +home +power and then connect it to the pc on a usb cable
Open odin, click "ap" or "pda" (same button, different versions) and select your poland orange 4.3 rom and then click "start".
Wait until the phone fully reboots and odin says "pass". Disconnect the phone.
This shouldn't wipe data but if this doesn't work then you have to bite the bullet and factory reset.

thanks. I tried various firmwares - branded and non-branded, current and a previous one (but also 4.3) - but I still got locked on the same screen. After factory reset it stayed on the very same screen for a minute, but then it came back to life.

[Q] S3 won't boot past the Samsung splash screen after firmware upgrade,NO Rcovry mod

Hi
I read many threads in many forums but still hope to get my data back as it represents bits of my life and more important than the phone itself, though some cases were similar but none exactly same plus i care much about my data and I never rooted, messed up with or even tried to do anything like that with my phone
here's what happened in details on my Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 maybe someone can help me
phone's SSN: -I9300GSMH
Made in Vietnam by Samsung
bought from Egypt where i live, SIM-free, not carrier locked, though i bought it from the carrier's (Orange subsidary in Egypt called mobinil) official store with warranty 1 year that now expired
the old firmware was 4.1.2, i got its build number from colleagues with similar phone bought same time as me I9300XXEMF6
here's what happened:
1- OTA firmware upgrade notification, downloaded package, options were cancel , install and install all package(somthing like that)
2- unfortunately chose install all package(yes i didn't read so i donno which version this was installing) and scheduled to start 5:20am
3- at 10:30am phone screen showing "starting apps"
4- after more than an hour still the same so i rebooted
5- stuck at samsung blue splash screen logo
6-removing battery and back in didn't help even for more than an hour, Samsung Kies won't recognize the device
7- Recovery mode give strange behaviour, didn't find similar in any forum, it brings the green droid man with a counter (like installing or loading somthing) reaches 27% exactly then this droid man flips on its back, red exclamation sign triangle on its belly and it dies, here's the ling to small video showing my mobile doing this
"https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0RJAWx6Ec-MUUlncVdjWFp0c1k/edit?usp=sharing" (there's no spam in the link, so plz just copy paste in browser to view, this is important to help show my problem)
yes that's RECOVERY MODE-->phone reboots itself coming back to stuck at samsung logo
there are no options, no menu on recovery mode just the after pressing the (Vol Up+home+power) combination it starts by itself this loading something till it dies and restarts, it doesn't give me any options or any control or allow me to interfere
yes download mode is working but i really hope there is another option than flashing the mobile and loosing everything, my whole life history that was on the mobile
praying God someone can help find me something to make it continue past the 27% or even go back to normal without loosing any of my stuff
really looking forward to your support..i'll be waiting for it b4 i do anything
many many thanks
Flash firmware with Odin and next time back up you're data.
Thanks andrewwright
if you just could be more specific..is this the only solution?
if yes, then which firmware version to flash that won't risk loosing my data? 4.1.2? or a newer version?
please if anyone else with less risky suggestions,,please your help is highly welcome
Flash a custom recovery like philz, use aroma file manager to save your data to external sd card.
Go read and learn how to do this from philz thread in original development.
This won't enable your phone to boot, but might save your data -if it is still there.

Solved:good:
Hi all
Odin 3.09
and latest Egypt firmware 4.3 for the GT-I9300 from samfirmware .com solved everything... i guess 4.3 is the version that this OTA firmware upgrade was eventually taking my phone to but got stuck somewhere during the process
not a single bit of Data lost, everything is there pictures, sms, even the settings
Thank God
thanks everyone for trying to help
cheers
Wasn't sure if it would wipe you're data or not. Some do some don't. Can't tell the outcome till its done. Glad you solved you're problem.
