Gear Contacts Display - Samsung Gear S

Hello,
All contacts are displayed on the Gear S. This includes ones with and without phone numbers. On the phone i was able to display only the ones with phone numbers. How do i do this on the Gear S's contact manager?

Gear S (Standalone) - Add contact

Hi all
Just got the Gear S, do not own a Samsung Phone, using it standalone (for now).
Anyone figured out how to add contacts to the watch?
I select "Contacts" from the menu. All that is happening is the spinning animation with the text "Syncing contacts". I can't add a contact from the message app or the call log either.
I dont want to go back to memorize numbers again.
edit1: tried to add some contacts to SIM card. Not picked up by the watch.
edit2: added some contacts to SIM card. They do appare on incoming calls, and appares in phone application when searching in the dialer.
You can't. Majority of the functions of this watch requires a Samsung phone. The only thing you can do is make or receive calls, send or receive SMS. That's about it. Some built-in apps may work (weather, HERE) to certain extent. Most apps won't without a phone.

Yepp, unpaired and alone this thing is dumber than a dumbphone. Not a problem for me actualy, I have a dual sim phone, so I just dump all the contacts to the sim card. I can see who's calling me and search my name in the dialer. The "contact" homescreen does not work, but that is fine by me.

Thanks for the info. I'm looking to run the gear s as stand alone and getting my contacts to appear was the main issue holding me back. I was happy to discover the trick about activating it without a Samsung phone and your contact trick might be all I need.
I carry two phones - work and private. My private phone is a phablet that I love (Nokia 1520) which I do all my emailing and browsing on. My work phone is just for calls and sms so the smaller the better (carrying two phones is a pain especially one being a phablet), but I need my contacts to sync via my exchange account so I use a small smartphone (Nokia 800). I'm hoping I can go Nokia 1520 and gear s stand alone using the tricks posted here.
The gear s seems like a perfect solution - I actually need the two phone numbers (and, yes I have thought about a dual sim phone but there are issues with that scenario). Although, I am suspecting that as much as I love my 1520 I might end up getting a Note 4 to make it all more convenient, but I just hate the thought of android, sorry.
My SIM contacts automatically shown in Gear. But i want to add new contacts. Is that not possible?

I think Samsung may have out-of-the-box disabled that feature simply for that reason-- to encourage users to have to use it with a phone. However, on the Tizen Developer website they list the source code for a simple contact manager (ah! New user, can't post links yet... just Google the Tizen SDK) that is able to interface the contacts API. This should be pretty simple/straight forward to compile and implement for the watch with the SDK.
I haven't quite made a decision about whether to purchase the S, or if I had more time at the moment, I'd do it. However, my point being the contact restriction I believe is only concerned with the built in contact app... I see no reason why another app should not be able to access it and thus get around the apparent limitation.

Adding contacts to your Gear S2
You can add contacts. I just did it. You have to log into your online account via your cell phone provider.

[Q] Problem with SMS Messages on the Gear Fit (non-Samsung)

Hello,
I'm currently using a Samsung Gear Fit connected to a Huawei Ascend Mate 7. It works perfectly (except the obvious non-Samsung phone limitations) although I can't get the stock SMS messaging app (I'm currently using SMS through Hangouts as a workaround, but I'd like to be able to use the default messaging app...) to display notifications to the Gear Fit as well as the stock Email app as they both do not appear in the apps list (in any section) in the Gear Fit Manager app. Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Does anyone know how to solve it?

Add contacts, standalone mode and other stuff

Hi, I need a little help. A friend of a friend ( so a person who I don't know ) asks me to add contacts in hers Gear S. At first I thought that she hadn't configured the watch, because she only has an iPhone and not a Samsung Phone. So, I wanted to activate the standalone mode ( 30 taps or something like that ) but when I have turn on the device, it was already configured. The device has a SIM card, so I tried to make a phone call, and it works. I can even see the phone calls log history ( I have read that it doesn't works on standalone watch, correct me if I am wrong ) so I am thinking It may have been paired with a Samsung phone... anyway, what can I do?
If I add contacts to the SIM, they can be read by the watch ( I googled and it seems not, but i want a confermation )?
I haven't a Samsung phone, but I have a rooted Nexus 5. If I follow a guide that allow me to pair my phone with the Gear S, can I add contacts? And then can I "un-pair" the devices so she can use the watch or something like that?
Sorry for these noob questions but I haven't be able to find good information online. I am a pretty expert Android phone user, but I know nothing about Tizen or smartwatch.
Thanks and sorry for my bad english, unfortunately it isn't my first language and I usually write only short message.

If there's contacts and other data already on her Gear S it was probably initially configured and paired to a Samsung device and that was the source of the data. The contact app on the Gear gets its feed from Samsung's contacts app on the host device. There's no way to add contacts individually in the Gear contacts app. Call logs are imported from the host device also. Call and texts made in stand-alone mode get added in the Gear's logs but don't transfer back to the phone. I can't answer the SIM contacts question because I don't store contacts there. The Gear S really isn't designed to be a "stand-alone" device as much as it is a "remote alternative" to always having to carry your Samsung phone around. People have gotten non-Samsung phones to work but a lot of key functionality ends up missing. Like being able to compose and manage e-mails and texts on the Gear which require the companion Samsung apps on the host device as their source.

Not happy after 1week of using gear s

Hello
I have my gear s for about a week, and I think it is a Nice gadget but the must learn by tizen development.
Maybe there are clarified reasons fot the tweaks I am missing.
When I set the alarm it is not sync with my s6 edge.
And what about the notes in the phone it is not sync to the gear.
I know that there are aftermarket apps that can do the trick with an external app and I dont want it external.i want it simpel sync with my phone.
So is there a good reason and am I the only one that missing that simpel things.
Firstly, the Gear S Alarm app is completely individual and is in no way synced with your s6. Secondly, My Notes in Gear is the recommended app for cross platform note-taking.
And Samsung Alarm on phone ring on the Gear S same way to the Gear S internal alarm (dismiss and snooze). When alarm ring there are a little icon on top right of screen to show if is a phone or watch alarm.
Gear Note for example is synched between phone and Gear S, Same for Note for Gear......
R u using the Gs as stand alone?
My alarm does show up on my Gear S ... And I can dismiss it using my watch but you have to enable notifications from the clock app in Gear Manager.
The rest, I'm not sure what he is asking about.

contacts assigned unique ringtones

Have :
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
Samsung Gear S
On my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, I have the contacts assigned unique ringtones for important people.
It is possible to get the watch to play these unique rings when there are new calls and SMS, when the clock is linked to the phone and the watch is not used standalone ?
