hi i bought a mtk based phone, previously i had an y300 huawei phone which has a large community for development. My new phone has a kitkat version with kernel 3.4.67 [email protected] #1 on aalps.kk1.mp1.v2.11. Previously i used a synopsis kernel or caexstel kernel thad had a lot of governors (i used smartass v2) ... so at the end i'm asking... is it possible to find and use some other kernel for my new phone? where i have to search them? thank you in advance

Hello guys,
I created this thread because I want to build a custom kernel for Moto E 2015 4G (surnia) for personal use.
the problem is that I want to build a kernel based on Android 7.1.0, but the only kernel built specifically for this device is for Android 5.1.
There is a "general" kernel from Motorola based on Android 7.0.0 and lots of other devices' kernels with android 7.1.1 and 8.0.0 kernels. In general, it seems to me quite complicated...
It is difficult for me, as it is the first time I'll build a custom kernel, to find out the right source code to begin with.
If you are experienced and know which source code is suitable for my device, and ways to improve the kernel, you can reply to this thread or send me a PM.
Thanks in advance.
Hi, this is my first post on xda, but i was reading it about 4 years and now i have unusuall question:
I have phone - samsung callisto (GT-I5510) with cyanogenmod 10.2 rom (android 4.3.1), and kernel sources are available for it, but only below 2.6.35.7 since phone is ancient. This is "latest" and probably "fastest" android phone with qwerty keyboard (not including this unrootable new blackberrys), so i think that it would be nice idea to deploy lightweight kali linux nethunter installation for hacking purpouses. I had some problems with oficial installer, and i had to modify it to allow install on device with such small /system partition, but the problem is that chrooting to Kali Roling is not working, becouse minimal kernel version needed is 3.2.*.*
Question is: Can i somehow "update" kernel sources of this device, so i can build 3.2.*.* kernel? I have much free time and even more determination to do this.
Hello !
I need add some new features in my Nokia 7.1, but to do it I must find kernel source code. I know, that my kernel's version is aarch64 Linux 4.4.192-perf+, but I don't know where I can search it. Am I able to use kernel from Lineage from XDA or something else?
Thank you
Hi!
I've got a really old and "rare" Archos phone and I'm trying to upgrade it but I have a bunch of questions.
-> is there a list of which android versions can support which old kernels? (like can I get Nougat on a 3.4.5 kernel version?)
-> if I want a new kernel, how am I supposed to choose it? I've found the Mediatek kernel for my phone model but I need a kernel based on a newer version. Is there a tuto that explains how to modify a kernel to support a certain device?
-> can I upgrate my existing kernel without needing to go find another? or can I adapt a newer android version to my old kernel?
Basically, there is no custom ROM for my model and I try to build one and am more and more confused about where to start. (Like if I start with Nougat but my kernel doesn't support it that'll be a bit of a time waste.)
Thanks for your answer!
With regards to a list look inside here.
