Guys
New to this forum and need a bit of advice pretty quickly please.
I have been looking for a gear s for a couple of months now.
I am in Hong kong airport right now and they have them in one of the retail outlets.
Problem is I travel quite a bit between UK, Canada and Australia.
If I buy this watch here will I be able to use it in these countrys with different sims ( I have a different sim for each country with voice and data).
Your quick response would bevery much appreciated
You can't use it in Canada, US, Mexico because of the different frequency bands that non-US version doesn't support. Australia uses a mixture of North America frequency (mainly 850MHz) and rest of world frequency (900/1800MHz) bands. So, depends which band your particular Australia carrier uses, it may or may not work.
Gear S is not a true world phone due to its dual-band limitation.

Hiya,
I recently purchased a phone from USA it was a TMOBILE Pocket PC Phone Edition. It seems that i cannot use it on some networks in the UK because it's only 1900/800 hz compatible.
In the UK only 2 networks support this kind of frequency, none of which are cheap and stable imo.
Is there a way I can unlock this to make it work on 1800 hz?
Please let me know.
there is now ay to get the XDA to work on the 1800 Mhz frequecy if it is a USA unit. They are two seperate units, one tht operate 1900/900 Mhz for N. America and one 1800/900Mhz for Europe and Asia.
I may be able to help though. If you live in Europe and are not planning retuning to the US, I have a O2 XDA unlocked that I bought in Malaysia that I cannt use because I live in Canada and it is the 900/1800 Mhz model. I'm looking for someone to exchange my unit with.

Thanks.
Hi, I just came to canada and need to buy a smartphone. I don't want to engage in a contract as I will be leaving for Australia in 4 months time and then from there to Pakistan
I am confused about different flavours of Samsung devices and concerned if they will work at full capability in Australia (pakistan doesn't even have 3g yet!) , Like this S3 I747

or these two minis

Any input would be appreciated.
Also, is there a way to get the phone unlocked at a cheaper price ? I mean is there a software one can unlock with? I am sorry but this whole locked phone thing, it's pretty alien to me
If you're planning on country-hopping, buy an unlocked international model straight out if possible (ie. The I9300/I9305, not the I747). Canada, Australia and Pakistan will most likely all have different spectrum frequencies, so buying a Canadian model probably won't work on Australian or Pakistan mobile networks.
Australia in particular has slightly different devices (eg. I9305T, N7105T), probably to adjust to their frequency bands.

I have just purchased a Gear s, which looks like it was purchased from the USA (T-mobile) & I am using it in the UK. It has been unlocked but when I put in the sim I do not get any single & within the call settings it displays unexpected response from network.
Any Ideas what could be wrong?
Thanks
Gear S is a dual-band phone only. So North America models won't work in rest of the world and vice versa. You are SOL.

Can you suggest where I might find out if my Australasian purchased Gear S + S4 will work in the UK?
Both devices bought outright (though so was my iPhone but the carrier still locked it into their service as soon as I put their sim card in)
To ask the question another way - if say travelling back to the uk (and assuming my devices are compatible with their networks ) - would I be better off prepurchasing a still quite expensive international package from the Australian bandits - or would an international package from Amaysim Lebara etc work with one their sims in the gear s and another in the galaxy device?
my provider is now offering slightly less extortionate international deals but as you say it depends on whether the GS is compatible with the other country's network.
I'd be happy to do that tap tap tap thing and just use the Gear S as a phone back in the uk
thanks
You need check Samsung for the specific frequency bands any of these specific local variants support. For Australia, it has networks use 850Mhz (which is one of the bands North America uses), 900 and 1800 (both are commonly used in rest of the world). So, I'm not sure what bands an Australian version supports.
Gear S for North America supports only 850MHz and 1900 MHz.
Gear S for rest of the world supports only 900Mhz and 1800 MHz.
Australia and Brazil have more complex frequency usage. So I don't have any idea. Japan is WCDMA 2100 only. So Japanese version contains no cell radio.
Thanks
I will get it exchanged
Best model for Western Australian users hoping to use it abroad
Gear S for North America supports only 850MHz and 1900 MHz.
Gear S for rest of the world supports only 900Mhz and 1800 MHz.

The somewhat-difficult-to-navigate Samsung Aus store is currently showing 2 different models
Telstra (900/2100) ----- GSM 900 DCS 1800 ---- 3G UMTS B1 (2100) B8 (900)
Optus Vodafone Virgin (850/2100) ----GSM 850 DCS 1800 ---- 3G UMTS B1 (2100) B5 (850)
Th Gear S still doesn't appear on the Telstra website ....(though it's their PAYG simcard in my watch)
but Optus is already offering the watch with a shared data plan
I bought mine from a 3rd party electronics reseller "**** Smith" but the Gear S has since disappeared from their store - go figure!
Thanks again for the ongoing education on battery considerations, pairing solutions, different types of network frequencies, and all your other helpful contributions
I'm not posting the details above in the hope of more free specific advice but more to share my experiences with other less techie users and potential users - plus writing it down helps my own understanding

I have a ATT version which i have unlocked and been using with Tmobile for about 5 days without issues.
I then wanted to use it internationally since i have Verizon for phone. I wanted to take advantage of the free texting and internet when abroad. my wife has Tmobile as well on her phone.
So we have been to Munich, Athens, and Barcelona and i have not been able to get any service whatsoever. meanwhile my wife with her Note edge has no problems with service.
Does it have to do with the bands of this att version?
has anyone used their ATT version Gear S internationally?
North American bands only. it's a dual-band phone. All Gear S versions are dual-band only. So, North America version will only work in North America (850 and 1900Mhz). Rest of the world uses different bands (900 and 1800Mhz).
What foxbat said. Sadly, Samsung didn't deem it necessary to make this quadband
Maybe the next version...
I don't think it is about the need but about the technical difficulties to squeeze in enough RF components and antenna for all four bands in such a small watch body. Remember, even in US, T-Mobile version should support at least 3 bands to get full 3G coverage but the T-Mo version of the Gear S only has two bands
ha....
May be the next version.
I don't about size limitation. i see cheap quad band watch phones from Asia that are slightly "smaller" than the Gear S.
I think of taking the sim out and putting it in an unlocked phone next time I am out of country to take advantage of tmobile great international perks.
i know usually Tmobile will be able to detect that i put it in a normal phone, but i am wondering if they will be able to do so while international roaming. Any thoughts?
As per my understanding -
The hardware of the galaxy watch remains same whether it is purchased in one country or the other.
Samsung might have made some changes in the firmware which are region specific.
But, then LTE functionality (if enabled) is not expected to behave differently with respect to the region/country.
I am saying so because this is what we find in our smartphones. If my smartphone works in the home country then i expect it to work in a foreign country as well.
Then, why is it so that a LTE galaxy watch purchased in USA will not support mobile carriers in an Asian country?
Please correct, if my understanding is faulty.
It is akin to cars and international markets. For example, a car sold in Europe or USA (almost for sure) will have different SKUs around the world even if the base model is the same.
Another thing is that LTE smartwatches are still relatively scarce. So it would be that such devices, like smartphones(before internationalisation), are still locked to their respective regions. Samsung is then the culprit for this issue.
