Hello,
I've just bought an fresh new HTC One X+ 64GB (last stock from HTC probably, it was very cheap , just 150€)
It bring the ROMv4.1.2 that I like very much
Somehow the phone gets updated via WI-fi to ROM v4.2.2
The reason why I post again this topic is because I've searched and searched to revert to v4.1.2 and always read the word Impossible!!!
The phone heats a lot, the battery lost capacity and I HATE HATE and HATE the ROM v4.2.2.
The question that I leave here to you guys, is really IMPOSSIBLE TO revert to Original ROMof my phone WITHOUT ROOT?
As the phone is quite new, I don't want to lose the warranty!
I've seen a lot of videos on youtube saying stock rom without root, but they use the fastboot, that it seam to be the ROOT!
I've rooted already my Samsung ACE2 and updated using Odin, but on HTC I'm quite newbie.
Can anyone help.
thanks in advance,

Hi,
Thanks for you reply
Just an additional info:
Today I've called to HTC Portugal, and received an very negative feedback.
Means that they are not able to downgrade to v4.1.2!!!!
This is annoying to me and unacceptable for me.
Why I can't get my phone back as I purchased?!!!!
I still on the way to press HTC Portugal, but seems to get some resistance.
I really like the word "impossible" in software matters!
HTC is giving me and different opinion now, at least in Portugal!
Can anyone inform if fastboot for HTC is the same has the so called ROOT?
Until now I've no certainty!
I've read posts saying "downgrade without ROOT" and using fastboot!!!
I'm afraid if using fastboot that lost the warranty!!!!

The thing is you cannot downgrade HBOOT ( the bootloader) and thus you cannot downgrade to 4.1.2
if you want to, install the android rev 8 HD rom, it is essentially sense 5 4.2.2, but i think you can set it to install without like root and xposed

Thanks for the direct answer
I was wondering that some how possible to downgrade!
Probably that's why HTC Portugal says they won't Downgrade! Not because they don't want to, but because is technically impossible!
Thanks

First off i am following this tutorial androidforums.com/all-things-root-hero/54802-how-root-install-custom-rom-backup-more.html which seemed to be the most upto date and relevant.
I think i have Rooted my phone using Instant Root
And what im stuck on is running FlashRec.apk It Just refuses to work (backup), so im stuck, i cant get passed this stage
I heave read something about GoldCard? or something, is this another method?
And i have come across more threads about using the SDK on windows somehow...

As far as i'm aware if flashrec doesn't work you need to downgrade, try my guide in my sig for details.
Thats what i thought :/ I don't get it, i haven't installed a single update, and im on 1.5, and i got the phone when it first came out in the UK, so it wouldn't have been updated, unless over the air updates are automatically downloaded and installed without my knowledge or approval?

As you have found out those phones that have network specific ROMS, namely from the carriers named above will find it difficult or impossible to Root using the methods those with non-branded Hero's have.
The only way to install a custom ROM and or root the phone is the following method. As I have had no experiance with this method I am not going to be able to write out any instrcutions of my own, nor am I going to copy and paste someone else's work and take credit for it. Therefore I am providing you with the following link.

I hadnt installed any updates either but i still had to downgrade, and your tutorial worked pefectly
All newish G2 Touches are loaded with a more recent update (although they're still all 1.5.)
This means if you have a new G2 Touch you'll need to downgrade.
I had the exact same issue as you with the backups failing, after searching the internet and using multiple tabs, i finally gained root access, to make life easier for others I created a guide, give it a try, let me know how you get on

Rooting & sim unlocking are totally unrelated. There's no free means to unlock, so you'll have to buy a code.

Oh ok n also I was readi thru my phone n it shows that what he's doin is instalin a costum rom n wouldn't do erase everythin on my phone?
Yes, installing a custom ROM would erase everything on your phone (although he also instructs you on how to do a nandroid backup of your previous setup). However, if all you want to do is root the phone you can do that without having to do any of the other stuff. Just download, install, and run Universal Androot as instructed in that thread, and you should have root without doing any other changes to the phone or your data.
Unfortunately rooting the T-Mobile G2 Touch isn't as simple as rooting a standard Hero GSM, T-Mobile made it quite difficult. I would suggest following this thread or using this tool
And if you don't install a custom rom or a rooted stock rom, your recovery will be overwritten, and you'll lose root on the first reboot.
The unrooted stock rom overwrites the recovery when rebooted.
Correct me if I'm wrong

Good point, I think you right in which case you will need to install a rooted stock ROM at the very least, which would mean wiping all your data
Sorry, I didn't know the G2 required a different rooting method.
Anyways, on my standard unlocked Hero I did not loose root when rebooting on the stock ROM, although as you said it did overwrite my recovery. I do not know if this is the case on the G2.

T-Mobile did some pretty nasty stuff security-wise compared to the standard GSM Hero so rooting is a bit different. As for what happens on reboot I can't comment, but I would recommend using a custom ROM anyway, something like [email protected]'s MCR is great for someone who just wants it working like stock but with better performance. You should be able to add something like FlyKernel to it for the overclock.

sucessful tmobile G2 temp root using VISIONary r14 this morning!
I tried ROOT on my new tmobile G2 (GSM) I bought last week. I tried Universal Androot AND z4root and neither worked to get even temp root.
This morning, I used VISIONary r14 and sucessfully gained su root and disabled a few of the branding and blotware apps on MY phone! I still haven't been able to uninstall them completely, but at least they aren't starting automatically on boot. Here's the link that worked:
android.modaco.com/content/software/320350/19-nov-r14-visionary-one-click-root/
these branded apps are WAY annoying! I'm not good with outfits like facebook and twitter having access to all my personal info and data, including fine GPS location!! and I can hardly believe tmobile imbedded these apps as they did. I'm still within my 14-day trial and may still return the phone because of this unless I can be sure I can get these apps OFF my back!
Hello All!
I have posted a thread a while ago about my htc amaze having so many issues after rooting and installing ROMs.
Luckly, I was able to return my phone and get it exchanged as I only had it for 1 week... so I got saved!
Now, with my new one, I still want it to be able to read Arabic correctly!
Rooting the device isn't the issue, I think I did it the first time with no problems (except for installing the ROM)
It seems like because I'm with "Wind Mobile" I can't flash the device, and I can't even get ICS when it becomes available.... I guess Wind customers are out of luck! (at least that's what I have been reading online)
I'm very new to Android world, and I like the phone the way it is except for supporting languages.
So I don't care if it's rooted or not, and all of these cool stuff. I just want Arabic!
My questions are:
1- Can I root my device, and add a patch without adding custom ROMs as I don't want to reck my phone again
So I want to keep the current ROM. "stock". and still add the patch. is this doable?
2- Regarding ICS. When the update comes out, will it be to specific cell phone carriers? I mean if you are with T-mobile -for example- you're good, and if not too bad?
does it depend on which company you are with, or just which phone you have?
I think that's it for today, lol... I'll wait for your answers
Thanks in advance!
well, the easiest way to get root is to flash a custom rom,
if you have the device rooted with stock, you could just flash the patch
if there is an ICS rom, you should be able to flash it

So basically when the ROM (the offical one) comes out then I can flash it regardless of which company I'm with right?

Hi,
i searched everywhere couldn't find anything about the AT&T verison of HTC One X+ and CM10
Is there a way to root the ATT version and install CM10 on it???
Read only about the international version yet. Don't want to brick my new phone.
Thanks.
Nope, there's still a bit of a wait on CM10/ASOP for AT&T/TELUS users. When a usable version is ready, it'll probably be here with [AT&T/TELUS] in the title.

So, the experimital CM10.1 is running on your HTC One X+. I have the same phone and I have unlocked it from HTC's web site. I'm a noob and don't know a lot about this stuff. Still learning. Should I try any mod or wait? I really want to get the AT&T crud off of my phone. Like I said, my phone is unlocked now.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
There are several non experimental roms you can install already just to get rid of the at&t stuff. Also you could root it and use titanium backup or root uninstaller or something to just get rid of unneeded stuff. If it were me, I would not DARE try anything experimental with my new phone, especially something cm10 related because pretty much all the devs have said there is nothing ready yet on that avenue.

OK, I'm new here and I really thank you all for any advise. I will read on and try to find some of these existing ROM's. This is probably a REALLY big noob question. If my phone is unlocked, does that mean it is rooted?
BTW, I also thank you for the advise on not using any experimental roms. I won't touch unless I know for sure. This new phone is a gem and I don't want to screw it up.

Unlock is unlock and root is root
Indeed. You have unlocked the bootloader which is step 1. Now you need to root which is step 2. There is an all in one tool in the android development forum you can use to root. That might be the easiest way to go. Once you are rooted you can get root uninstaller for free from the play store or titanium backup. Titanium is probably better choice there. You could also flash a rom through recovery that is already rooted but most of those require you flash the kernel seperatly so if you are.very new i probably wouldnt do that just yet. Read up on the process first. Hope that helps.

Thanks! My problem is this..... I used the HTC step by step from http://onexroot.com/one-x-root/how-to-root-one-x/
I got through the step where the instructions say to Mark - Right Click Copy - Paste into the HTCDev.com website
I then followed the instructions on through until the phone was unlocked.
At step 39 the instructions say to -
Reboot your phone into Fastboot mode and type the following in command prompt:and
type and execute at the cmd prompt -
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.2.7-endeavoru.img
OK, I finished these steps and am now stuck at step 40.
I then copied the CWN-SuperSU-v.0.87.zip file to the root of my phone storage
The phone won't boot in to recovery at all
What is the CWN-SuperSU-v.0.87.zip file for and do I need to complete the step by rebooting using it in recovery mode? It will not boot in to recovery anyway.
So my phone was wiped and unlocked but back to the original AT&T build and I don't understand where I pick up in the process.
This is the point where I get confused. I research and read everywhere too. I know my phone is unlocked for sure. It's not bricked yet. :fingers-crossed:
I don't know where I pick back up with the process using some of the recommendations you guys have given me.
Like this
[TUT] TELUS HOX+ no rom fix
with the 4 ROMS at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2051032
The HTC One X+ All-In-One Toolkit V1.1 looks like what I need to use.
I just want to use something until cyanogyn has been tested and is ready. I want to get rid of all th AT&T bloatware.
Can you tell me where I'm at in the process when it comes to the exact next step I need to process in my phone?
Thank you very much in advance for any help you can offer!

type and execute at the cmd prompt -
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.2.7-endeavoru.img

Am i right in thinking you are coming from an iPhone? Rooting an android phone isn't like jailbreaking in the sense that no matter what firmware you have, you can still root your phone and flash custom ROMs.

No, never had an iphone, never will i hope. I have had several android phones (moto defy, galaxy s/s2/s3, xperia s, htc desire hd). My qustion is whether it's a complicated method or is it root->cwm->flash type of thing...I just got it and don't wanna mess anything badly without knowing.
Haha nevermind, it was just asking for registering my device. Oddly enough it's already update, don't know if it's normal.
Anyways i would like to have some info about how flashing works on S3 because i have had phones where "unlocking bootloader" and actually letting the company know that the device has been unlocked like in xperia s case. So i just need some info regarding the method. Also some info whether it's worth flashing a specific version or rom out there that provides a better overall experience than stock.
Its all posted in the faqs and guides .

All of the GT-i9300 phones (that's the model number for the international version) have the boot loader unlocked. All you need to do is, like you said, root it, flash CWM, and flash the ROM of your choice.
Samsung did implement a flash counter which will turn from 0 to 1 when anything is flashed, there is an app on the play store that can change it back to 1 called Triangle Away.
Personally i use cyanogenmod, if you don't know, it is the most popular ROM right now (i think) and it is based on AOSP (the Android source code from Google) but with many tweaks and added features that make it much faster and a better experience than stock. Right now I'm running the unofficial KitKat 4.4 version.

A lot of people get scared by the word "unofficial" but after a few weeks of running it i haven't had a single issue.
I use a custom kernel so i can overclock and undervolt, it's the boeffla 2.1-beta2.
http://boeffla.df-kunde.de/sgs3/boe...st/boeffla-kernel-CM-2.1-beta2-cm11.0.CWM.ziphttp://boeffla.df-kunde.de/sgs3/boeffla-kernel-cm/cm11.0_download/Test/boeffla-kernel-CM-2.1-beta2-cm11.0.CWM.zip
wait so the counter stays at 1? no way to make it 0?
Oh sorry, typo Triangle Away resets the counter to 0
