Building from Source:
Requirements:
Linux, (I use Ubuntu, works with other distros, too, but maybe you have to make some changes to the commands)
A working Build Environment, (here is a guide how to set up a Build Environment on Ubuntu)
(needed steps till "Identify Yourself to the Repo")
Create working directory and init repo:
Code:
mkdir ~/Android/Darkkat
(you can use a directory name and path you like, but you have to change the commands to match to your local path)
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat
repo init -u git://github.com/XXMrHyde/android.git -b darkkat-4.4
Sync the repo:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(now it`s time to drink a big cup of coffee, tea, or ... this can take some time)
Get the needed binaries for the Nexus 7:
Download from Google Developers: Binaries for Nexus 7 [2013] (Mobile) ("razorg")
(all 3 tgz archives)
Extract to the root of your working directory,
Run the scripts:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat
Code:
./<filename>
(Confirm Licensing Agreement)
Build the rom:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && brunch deb
(time for the next big cup of coffee, ...)
That`s it,
you (hopefully) compiled successfully your own DarkKat rom
Update the sources:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(this time it doesn`t take much time)
Now build again,
(if there are a lot of sourcecode changes, or your last build is some times ago you may need to clean your "out" directory):
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && make clobber
Darkkat Addon
Included:
Custom installation with Aroma Installer
English and german language
Bootanimations:
AOSP 4(.1/.2)
AOSP 4(.3/.4)
Galaxy Nexus
OmniRom, (old)
CM10(.1/.2)
Fonts:
Ubuntu
Roboto, (Android 4.4)
Roboto, (Android 4.3)
Roboto, (Android 4.2)
Install SuperSu
Additional Apps:
RootBrowser
BoatBrowser
Airdroid
Terminal Emulator
Install backup script:
Bootanimation
Font
SuperSu
Some infos:
General:
If you don`t like you don`t have to use the addon,
but take a look at post #2 "Installation" -> "Without DarkKat Addon"
You only have to flash the addon one time, (if you choose to install the backup scripts),
all your custom changes will be restored after an update.
The Darkkat Addon will work with all Darkkat Builds,
you don`t have to look at the addon date and rom date.
Additional Apps:
Don`t use the addon to update the apps, (this should be done via Play Store)
There is no need to install apps which are already installed.
Awesome... Running smooth as silk.... Thank you!! ☺

Immersive mode
Hi there is immersive mod working in this rom?
On mako and flo, immersive mode is working fine, I don't own the deb, so I can't test it. Enable expanded desktop at Settings -> Interface -> General, and use the quicksettungs tile, (expanded desktop) to enable/disable immersive mode, or use the power menu.
Even if it's called expanded desktop, it uses the new immersive mode function.

or just remove all the tiles, and setup again.
You have to resetup the power menu, it will be restored to defaults.
A big thanks to bwells88 for beta testing the deb version, without his help, the deb version,
wouldn`t exist
Still amazing here.... 8). I'm thinking that not many peeps purchased a Deb device... Not a lot of traffic on the LTE thread... ☺

The Darkkat Update to Build 2014.02.20 is available.

Update Android to KVT49L

Settings:
Launch SuperSU from Settings
Apps:
Mms/Sms: Change theme to Holo, (dark), (only available on devices with mms/sms support)
Calculator update
LockClock update
Torch update
DashClock update
Some infos about the update:
Android update to KVT49L:
The update to KVT49L is a very small update,
which was released for the LTE version of the Nexus 7, (deb).
On Nexus 7, (deb) the US-Provider Verizon Wireless is supported know.
The calendar- and keyboard App are updated.
You shouldn`t expect big changes.
As soon as Google will release the KVT49L Kernel sources,
I`ll update the kernel, too.
(maybe the Verizon Wireless support will only work with the updated kernel,
but as I don`t earn a deb, and also don`t live in the US I can`t test it).
Advanced Power menu:
I decided, to deactivate the long click function,
because the reboot function has already a long click action,
(reboot to save mode).
Quick settings:
As the networkmode tile doesn`t work at all,
I removed it (temporary),
(as soon as I succeed to fix the function, (if any),
I`ll ad the networkmode tile again).
Quick access ribbons:
Known bug:
With deactivated Quick settings, the Quick access ribbons won`t be activated again,
by activating the Quick settings, a reboot will solve it.
(I guess I`ll don`t be able to fix it soon, I`m sorry).
SuperSU settings:
Since version 1.85 SuperSu hides it launcher icon,
if the relevant setting is present in the system settings.
You can find the SuperSU settings below developer settings.
(On Nexus 4 the SuperSu launcher icon was present at the app drawer,
as long as I lunched it`s settings from system settings the first time,
On Nexus 7 it wasn`t present).
Mms/Sms: Holo, (dark) Theme:
to justify the word "Dark" in Darkkat,
among dialer and contacts the Mms/Sms app is Holo, (dark) themed, too.
It isn`t planed to theme other system apps, too,
but if someone is interested, I`ll change my opinion,
(ONLY system apps, e.g. Email, Calendar, ...,
NO Gapps, like Play Store, Hangouts, ...,
NO user apps like Airdroid, ...).
if you prefer the light themed app, you can find it inside the curent DarkKat Addon,
to recover the light version after a rom update, you should also install the backup script.
Is it possible that you add sms and ussd code in the next build, and also native OTG support in settings/storage?
Thanks!
The rom is great by the way... =)
I also thought about SMS/MMS support, so I'll take a look at it. But native OTG and USSD, never thought about it, so I have to do a little bit research, I don't know if it'll be included in the next build.

There is always a room for improvement... Thanks!
USB-OTG is working fine on flo:
I guess it`ll be working on deb, too
the files to edit are the same for deb.
So the fix will be included in the next build, if I get a positive feedback from my beta tester or someone else.

For Android 4.4.3/4.4.4 version:
Code:
repo init -u git://github.com/XXMrHyde/android.git -b darkkat-4.4.3
For Android 4.4.2 version:
Code:
repo init -u git://github.com/XXMrHyde/android.git -b darkkat-4.4
Sync the repo:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(now it`s time to drink a big cup of coffee, tea, or ... this can take some time)
Get the needed binaries for the Nexus 5:
Download from Google Developers:
For 4.4.4:
Nexus 5 (GSM/LTE) binaries for Android 4.4.4 (KTU84P)
For 4.4.3:
Nexus 5 (GSM/LTE) binaries for Android 4.4.3 (KTU84M)
For 4.4.2:
Nexus 5 (GSM/LTE) binaries for Android 4.4.2 (KOT49H)
(all 3 tgz archives)
Extract to the root of your working directory,
Run the scripts:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat
Code:
./<filename>
(Confirm Licensing Agreement)
Get the missing binaries:
Download any deodexed 4.4.X Stock rom,
(X depending on the version you building for)
and extract:
/system/etc/DxHDCP.cfg
/system/vendor/firmware/discretix, (folder)
/system/vendor/lib/libvdmengine.so
/system/vendor/lib/libvdmfumo.so
/system/app/OmaDmclient.apk
/system/app/TimeService.apk
/system/app/shutdownlistener.apk
Copy TimeService.apk and shutdownlistener.apk to
Code:
~/Android/Darkkat/vendor/qcom/hammerhead/proprietary
all others, (and the content of the discretix folder not the folder itself) to:
Code:
~/Android/Darkkat/vendor/lge/hammerhead/proprietary
Open (in a text editor):
Code:
~/Android/Darkkat/vendor/qcom/hammerhead/device-partial.mk
and add these lines:
Code:
vendor/qcom/hammerhead/proprietary/shutdownlistener.apk:system/app/shutdownlistener.apk:qcom \
vendor/qcom/hammerhead/proprietary/TimeService.apk:system/app/TimeService.apk:qcom \
Code:

and add these lines:
Code:

Build the rom:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && brunch hammerhead
(time for the next big cup of coffee, ...)
That`s it,
you (hopefully) compiled successfully your own DarkKat rom
Update the sources:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(this time it doesn`t take much time)
Now build again,
(if there are a lot of sourcecode changes, or your last build is some times ago you may need to clean your "out" directory):
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && make clobber
Update the sources from 4.4.3 to 4.4.4:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
Update the needed binaries:
Download any deodexed 4.4.4 Stock rom,
and extract:
/system/app/OmaDmclient.apk

Loaded great and now restoring my apps. Playing around a bit this is a great ROM. This has really nice touches to it. Do you have a kernel suggestion? I will run the one that comes with the ROM for awhile, always do so I have a comparison.
So far I love it and will hang on to this for awhile. Has DD written all over it!!
Again thank you for sharing your work!

Thanks for your feedback,
the hammerhead version was a user request, as I don't own a Nexus 5, I can't tell you a kernel suggestion, maybe someone else will do.

You can't go wrong with Trinity Kernel!
Otherwise, top class ROM. Smoothness, stability and most importantly; it is not bloated with useless tweaks and mods!

Take a look at the installation instructions, I mentioned you have to install SuperSu or SuperUser to get root access.
I didn't noticed any problems with the background on the native launcher, so I have no Idea what went wrong, sorry

I don't want to blame you, just want to make clear it isn't a "bug" of the rom.

Yup, great job man. I flashed Uber Linaro 3/31 nightly kernel, loaded a nice color profile. No oc or uv, I did change from ondemand to wheatly. I like wheatly ever since the og evo & the Mason kernel. Anyways, I'm blabbering. Thanks again pal, gonna go set all up!

Lock screen clock
If there are notifications and the weather panel is
shown, the clock will possibly be placed on top of the status bar
(related to the number of notifications and the screen size).
I didn`t decided how to handle this bug,
maybe hide the weather panel if there are a (configurable) number of notifications,
or only display a (configurable) number of notifications on the lock screen.

Requirements:
A fast desktop CPU, (or a very fast mobile CPU, better use a PC)
Enough RAM, (8 - 16 GB)
A up to date Linux, (I use Ubuntu 14.04, works with other distros, too, but maybe you have to make some changes to the commands)
A working Build Environment, (here is a guide how to set up a Build Environment on Ubuntu)
(needed steps till "Identify Yourself to the Repo")
Of course it`ll work on slow hardware, too,
but it takes a lot more time.
Create working directory and init repo:
Code:
mkdir ~/Android/Darkkat
(you can use any directory name and path you like, but you have to change the commands to match to your local path)
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat
Code:
repo init -u git://github.com/XXMrHyde/android.git -b darkkat-5.1
Sync the repo:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(now it`s time to drink a big cup of coffee, tea, or ... this can take some time)
Setting up ccache, (optional):
I recommend to use ccache,
if you have enough free space on your SSD/HDD, (about 50 GB).
Using ccache will speed up the building times,
(first build will take longer, because the cchache will be created).
For me, (clean build)
first build/without ccache:
about 50 - 60 minutes
following builds, with ccache:
about 13 - 20 minutes
Code:
gedit .bashrc
and add this line to the bottom:
Code:
export USE_CCACHE=1
the default ccache directory is located at the root of your home directory,
if you like a different location add this line, too;
Code:
export CCACHE_DIR=<path-to-your-cache-directory>
Now run the following command:
Code:
~/Android/Darkkat/prebuilts/misc/linux-x86/ccache/ccache -M 50G
Build the rom:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && brunch shamu
(time for the next big cup of coffee, ...)
That`s it,
you (hopefully) compiled successfully your own DarkKat rom
Update the sources:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(this time it doesn`t take much time)
Now build again,
(if there are a lot of sourcecode changes, or your last build is some times ago you may need to clean your "out" directory):
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && make clobber
Thanks for sharing. CM theme engine coming and are there Nav bar options such as long press? I read through and didn't see but figured I asked. Eyes aren't that great either.

Theme engine won't come, navigation bar customizations are planned for the future.

Does this rom has layer support , did not read that in changes , but i'm asking
No, I have to take a deeper look into it,
but I guess like CMs theme engine,
most of the color customizations of this rom
will break its function,
so I had to rewrite almost all of the included customizations,
I tried it 2 times, with CM10.2 and CM11,
and i`ll never try it again.
Edit:
But if the Layer is a compete
different function, and can be
easy included, ...
time will tell
downloading this now thanks

Good to see you over here, Mr Hyde! I used DarkKat on the Nexus 5. I can vouch ; this is a great ROM!

No, but it's planned.

Downloading now... Will report later!! Thanks OP
Thanks for the rom @XXMrHyde! Does this force encryption? I didn't see it stated in the OP.
EDIT: This has the CM sound bug where the notification sound volume drops way low. Just a FYI.
EDIT2: It's a beautiful looking and smooth rom though.
No, forced encryption is disabled, I'll add it to the changes.

Primary rom installations, (or without Multirom):
Possibly SuperSU will be installed in systemless mode,

Secondary rom installations:
SuperSU will be "installed" in systemless mode,
but SuperSU isn`t installed (or disabled and hidden),
also root isn`t working at all.
There are 2 possibilities to "install" DarkKat as secondary rom with working root:
System mode:
force the SuperSU installation in system mode
Systemless mode:

Code:
repo init -u git://github.com/XXMrHyde/android.git -b darkkat-6.0
Sync the repo:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
For me, (clean build)
first build/without ccache:
about 45 - 55 minutes
following builds, with ccache:
about 10 - 17 minutes
Code:
gedit .bashrc
and add this line to the bottom:
Code:
export USE_CCACHE=1
the default ccache directory is located at the root of your home directory,
if you like a different location add this line, too;
Code:
export CCACHE_DIR=<path-to-your-cache-directory>
Now run the following command:
Code:
~/Android/Darkkat/prebuilts/misc/linux-x86/ccache/ccache -M 50G
Build the rom:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && brunch hammerhead
(time for the next big cup of coffee, ...)
That`s it,
you (hopefully) compiled successfully your own DarkKat rom
Update the sources:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(this time it doesn`t take much time)
Now build again,
(if there are a lot of sourcecode changes, or your last build is some times ago you may need to clean your "out" directory):
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && make clobber

Installation:
Take a look at the updated installation instructions at post #2,
(especially "Gapps" and "Root")
Some infos about this Update:
ALPHA/BETA/RELEASE builds:
In general, all builds are comming with the RELEASE tag
(in the rom name), but I wont mention the RELEASE tag,
but if the rom is a ALPHA/BETA build,
mostly on major Android version updates, 5 -> 6,
(possibly 6.0 -> 6.1) and/or the roms additional features are in
ALPHA/BETA stage, (which is the case with first builds on new Android versions),
I`ll mention the ALPHA/BETA stage of the rom.
Lock sreen shortcuts, (default at the bottom):
Related to the installed Gapps package,
the left shortcut, (phone or voice assist)
is possibly always hidden, even if the device supports phone calls.
I have to take a deeper look into it,
to fix the phone shortcut on devices with phone calls support,
if the used Gapps package doesn`t include the needed files for the voice assist.
And also fix the available shortcuts at Settings.

Installation:
Take a look at the updated installation instructions at post #2,
(especially "MultiRom and root")
SuperSU/MultiRom:
This is only relevant on new/fresh installations or if you like to update
SuperSU.
At least on the Nexus 5, new SuperSU versions, (at least 2.66 and 2.67),
will be installed in systemless mode, to force a system mode installation,
fortunately there is a "official" way, (the unofficial "forced" system mode zip
doesn`t work for me, I got a bootloop, (boot animation)),
before installing SuperSU:
if you have access to your device via adb, run:
Code:
adb shell "echo SYSTEMLESS=false>>/data/.supersu"
otherwise create a new file at /data : ".supersu", (there must be a " . " at the beginning
and add the line :
Code:
SYSTEMLESS=false
From my knowlegde, the adb command won`t work for secondary roms,
because the file will be created at /data of the primary rom,
in theory, the "create file" method will work on secondary roms, too,
of course you have to create the file from your secondary rom.
Some infos about this Update:
System R/W:
In the meantime, I found out, that the "System R/W" bug isn`t a bug of the rom,
but a bug of the (outdated ? ) file manager I used,
so using another file manager solved the issue.
Sorry about this.
Status bar network traffic:
As there are 2 new options, "Show" (normal status bar) and "Show when on lock screen",
there is no need to have a "disabled" option on the network activity list,
("Download", "Upload" and "Download & Upload"),
in my opinion it doesn`t worth the work to "update" the "old" disabled option
to the new "Show/hide" options, which means if you enabled the network traffic,
on the new build the network traffic is disabled/hidden,
so you only have to check 1 switch to get your old "state" back,
(all other options/customizations will stick).
Status bar expanded bars:
As the rom now included bars for mobile-, wifi network and battery status,
there is no need for the mobile-, wifi network and battery icons on the status bar header
when expanded. And that`ll be the time the troubles begin, it`s "easy" to fade out/in the header icons
related to the expanded state, but make this related to the visible bars, too, will be very hard.
It isn`t enough to "only" fade the icons out/in, the icons also have to be moved to prevent
blank spaces, (e.g. only mobile network bar is visible, the wifi icon has to be moved next to the battery icon,
and the mobile network icon has to be fade out, and that`s only on of the possibilities).
Remember back to the header of the 5.X version I spent days/weeks, to get the header content movement/animations
to work as expected.
So the easiest way is to remove the icons at all of course.
All Ideas, opinions, ... to this "issue" will be appreciated and welcome.

Added some screenshots to post #1
Unfortunatelly I found a big bug on the status bar.
Related to the enabled settings, (Greeting, Ticker, ...)
sometimes the status bar content is invisible,
the network name is invisible all the time,
and on the status bar when on lock screen, the system icons
are visible from (normal) status bar and lock scren status bar.
I`m sure there are other visibility issues as well related to the status bar.
I`m currently working on a fix,
or better I remove the complete greeting function, which is the reason for the issue.
Maybe I`ll add the greeting back again, but in another way for sure,
(toast, dialog, ...)
The fix will be a smal flashable zip,
so nobody has to redownlaod and install a complete rom.
Big sorry about this.

Some infos about this update:
Status bar expanded header:
I enabled again the hiding of the signal and battery icons if expanded,
this isn`t the final solution, but any other implementation related to the visible bars
needs much overwork, so this will be a "feature" for the future.
Notifications:
I tested the notifications with a lot of different apps,
but possibly there are color related "problems" with some apps I didn`t tested.
So if you get any "problems" with notifications colors, just let me know,
but tell me which app and which color related notification setting you use.
Navigation bar:
The customizations are almost finished, except the button arrangement.
I didn`t finally decided how and which kind of button arrangement I include.
But for sure this will be a much less "feature implementation" as I used for L.

Thanks for the ROM. All I can say is....its a different approach for UI customization..... looks like Android N pre-release ...
Is it not possible to provide delta updates instead of complete ROM update?
Unfortunately I can't provide delta updates for now, because the hosting service I use doesn't support the needed apis. And a hosting service which supports the needed apis is to expensive. But I'll take a look again, the last time I checked the hosting services was some time ago.

Thanks for the rom! I have some feedback that I hope with help:
1. Under quick pull down settings left is still in Dutch, links!
2. When you have 6 items in the quick settings panel they aren't centered so the 6th shows part of the screen. I tried to make a screenshot but couldn't because of no3.
3. When making changes to the power menu it no longer works. Long pressing thing power button instead causes the phone ui to reboot.
4. Is it possible to add an option to the network traffic indicator(s)to only show traffic over a specific level? Similar to other roms?
5. Is it possible to add smart pull-down also?
Edit # The power menu problem when the ui restarts is only repeatable by removing airplane mode.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Thanks, helps a lot,
especially 3., a user on the N6 already complains about it,
but I couldn`t reproduce it.
1. It`s german, but that doesn`t matter, will fix it.
2. It`s only centered if there is space on both sides, I`m not happy with this behavior,
but it wasn`t easy to not break the layout at all, I`ll take look on it.
3. I`ll take a look into it. (Already reproduced it, and got the log, I guess I know what`s causing it).
4. Good Idea.
5. Possible of course, but it`s not on top of my to do list.
Using this at the moment, working good so far. Did not install any custom kernel, slightly adjusted to the "bars," but nevertheless the battery life is good. Will stay on this for a while.

Code:
repo init -u git://github.com/XXMrHyde/android.git -b darkkat-6.0
Sync the repo:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
For me, (clean build)
first build/without ccache:
about 45 - 55 minutes
following builds, with ccache:
about 10 - 17 minutes
Code:
gedit .bashrc
and add this line to the bottom:
Code:
export USE_CCACHE=1
the default ccache directory is located at the root of your home directory,
if you like a different location add this line, too;
Code:
export CCACHE_DIR=<path-to-your-cache-directory>
Now run the following command:
Code:
~/Android/Darkkat/prebuilts/misc/linux-x86/ccache/ccache -M 50G
Build the rom:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && brunch hammerhead
(time for the next big cup of coffee, ...)
That`s it,
you (hopefully) compiled successfully your own DarkKat rom
Update the sources:
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && repo sync
(this time it doesn`t take much time)
Now build again,
(if there are a lot of sourcecode changes, or your last build is some times ago you may need to clean your "out" directory):
Code:
cd ~/Android/Darkkat && . build/envsetup.sh && make clobber
OMG******
He's back!!
Thanks downloading now

of course I don`t mean you in post #1!

Deleted, (double post)
Features looking good..surely want to use it, but as I'm always using MR, either have to wait for next built or give a shot....
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Just flash the rom as primary, or use the MR "Swap Rom" function.

Hi @XXMrHyde,
Where you tested Multirom: where you using the "fixed" version that i posted a while back in the Multirom thread?
@Droidphilev
yes, I use the fixed MR version you posted,
if I remember right, you also posted a fixed version for the Nexus 5,
so at least using the official MR version on the Nexus 5,
flashing a marshmallow rom as secondary causing a bootloop,
(or a bootloader loop? ), so on the Nexus 6 I flashed "your" fixed version first,
without testing the official version.
I have no Idea if the problems on the Nexus 6, if the (this) rom flashed as secondary,
can be solved via MR, or if it has to be fixed on rom side.
BTW, on the Nexus 5 and 7 (2013), this rom is working fine as secondary,
so big thanks for your fixed versions for shamu and hammerhead.

Nexus 5 was not mine
Well... you should not have any problems flashing M to secondary EXCEPT when you are trying to flash systemless root to it (SuperSU > 2.56).
Will try it on mine soon with old fashion root and see if it boots
Thought you also were the one who posted the fixed hammerhead version,
my mistake.
Unfortunately this rom doesn`t work as secondary rom on the Nexus 6,
(flashing isn`t a problem, but lags, FCs and a missing internal sdcard
are the problems.
As it seems the lags and FCs are related to the missing internal sdcard,
maybe I missed some SELinux stuff.

Well.... some enforcing kernels break writing to sd card. You should try to flash your rom to secondary and use the very last Elite kernel for example.
Thanks for your help.
Yes, I know how to fix it "the dirty way", I already updated the installation instructions. But I prefer to include a SELinux enforcing kernel, set the kernel to permissive will "disable" SELinux, which isn't a good Idea in my opinion.
A better way is to add the missing SELinux rules to be able to access the internal sdcard on secondary roms, too.

I see. Well... i flashed it to secondary with Elite and 'old' SuperSU. works fine. Nice rom btw!
Thanks for your confirmation.
I guess for now I`ll leave the kernel as it is,
so the users can decide if they want to use a permissive kernel
to be able to use the rom as secondary.
