Hello,
Actually I would definately decide for LG G2 mini, if it would have a notification light... For me it is a must-be. That's why I want to ask if somebody uses any application that allows to have some notifications, like flash, led, whatever. Does it work on this super phone?
Lg g2 mini doesn't have led. But the are a lot of apps which uses your screen for notification. DynamicNotifications for example.
i've been using the device for a pretty long time and i definetly do not miss the notification led.. i mean, all you have to do to chceck whatever is going on, is double tap the display to wake up the phone..
It would have been nice to have but as you said not a biggie. Screen blinking is a stupid thing if you ask me.
i actually haven't had problems with this..

I'm using Snaplock and I love it! Beautiful lock screen with nice notification feature. The screen turns on when a new notification arrives.
Currently having a small issue with this app, but the support is awesome.

Hello people, to my dismay, I have found that there is no notification LED on the S2 and so I'm wondering whether or not there is an option, through apps or such, to get your screen to light up or something. Just doing some research before I get this phone as I don't want to be stuck with a problem without knowing whether it is able to be solved.
Thanks in advance
Use the No-LED app.
Edit - It wont light up your screen like a Pink Floyd concert, but it does provide color icon notifications for email, sms/mms, charging status etc
Thanks! I just looked up the app after reading your post and it seems perfect, with the bonus of being developed for the Galaxy S. Thanks again, it'll be among the first apps I'll get
To the guys who use no Led:
Is it true that it drains battery a lot?
Guess the is no alternative right now.
I would love blinking "menu" and "Back" Button rather than blinking screen...
I looked around for info on the this app and found the developer's thread about it. It's someone from XDA actually.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730692
i ll test it now anyway...
Try any kernel that supports bln and install bln control from the market. This way the buttons will light up if you missed anything ( you have to be rooted though)

I don't think there's a kernel yet that supports bln for SGSII....

Frankly speaking, it's a terrible idea to lighten the screen as notification. Yes it is absolutely true that it will drain the battery, definitely. So No-LED is a big No for me, especially when GS II have two backlited keys, we are just missing the BLN kernel support.
Regards.
"I would love blinking "menu" and "Back" Button rather than blinking screen..."
Exactly what I'm looking for too.
+1 for the blinking backlighted buttons idea!
<rant>I'm currently stuck with an old G1 with a dedicated notification multicolored LED and I'm getting ready to upgrade my phone (most likely the SGII) and I'm disappointed to see newer phones are lacking notification lights... It's not like it's a lot more expensive to implement... a simple colored LED with a timer interrupt and an I/O pin...</rant>
Anyways, I'd love to have the backlighted button as an alternative..
Thanks,
Stephane
Have you noticed that when the proximity sensor is on it turns red? Make a call and check it next to the camera. I guess we could use that as a notification led. I wonder what would eat more battery, the soft-keys backlight (like the BLN in i9000) or the proximity sensor.
Hi,
I created an app that will let an Xperia S/P/U light up the illumination bar when there is an unread SMS or a missed call.
Available at Google Play if you search for "Illumination Bar Notification"
link
For U model there is multi color support, and for S/P there is only the one color supported by the hardware.
The LEDs can either blink at various speeds or have a constant light.
There is an option to stop the light when the screen is unlocked or keep blinking until the SMS has been read or the call has been acknowledged.
I have only an Xperia U to develop on, but it has been tried on S/P as well.
If you have any problems let me know and I'll try to fix it.
Thanks to user sl1nk3 that figured out there was an API we can use.

*** Running on custom ROMs ***
If you run CyanogenMod or other firmware not from sony you may need to install additional libraries for this app to work.
First option: IlluminationReceiver
This solution works for all devices with illumination bar (S/P/U/SP) and does not require any sony libs at all:

This is just what I've been waiting for. Thanks a lot! Will try it now
Edit. Working great! In a future update, could you add the feature to disable it after a pre-set time? Believe it will drain battery after some time

This is nice. Could you make it blink? and can you make it for email as well?
Thanks very much.
Good man I was waiting on an app like this.
edit:
can you add an option to leave the illumination light always on when the screen is on. I like to have it on when it is dark so that I can see where the buttons are. Thanks
only white colour :-(

It has option to blink already.
There is no standard android way for apps to be notified for incoming e-mails, so adding e-mail support would likely mean having to implement a full e-mail client.
Maybe there is another way, but not that I know of.

That is probably doable, but I think it would be best to have that in its own app, since it is not related to notifications
Dude!!! I'm Not Gay, But I LOVE YOU!!! U Gave The Proper Meaning Of Sony's This STYLE ICON!!!
These are the things I would like to have for future update!!!
1-Stop the blinking after certain time period (for battery backup)
2-Notification for
A-CHARGE COMPLETE (as this wont drain the battery, and keep it cool)
B-Whatsapp notification
3-Please change the icon of this app (add a cool one for this cool phone)
4-Low rate of blinking should be much lower I think (like each blink after 5 sec)
5-If its possible blink in different style (disco,rhythmic...etc)
THANK YOU AGAIN, I REALLY LOVE TO SEE THIS IS INSTALLED WITHOUT MODDING OR ROOTING MY PHONE!!!
THANK YOU!!!
The app is pretty buggy for me.
sometimes it works "lighting up" but sometimes it doesnt even light up and instead it makes my screen lights up -.-
i like it when my screen is pitch black when i receive something.
please fix and will reconsider downloading.
thankyou
I would love to see the source code for this if you would like to release it. I had been working on a version of it myself, but I only just started android programming.
Also if you need a cool icon I can make you one. PM me
id just figured out whats the bug is.
1) a- it doesnt light up when you check "stop light when screen is unlocked"
the screen goes on and the led strip stops flashing.
b- and sometimes it doesnt light up until the second msg comes in or calls
c- overtime when just received a text or two the screen turns on as well as the led strip lights up, then somehow the screen turns on like every 10 secs or so. (not receiving anything)
2) like i said before please make the screen stay off when receiving any notifications. my screen goes on after i installed this app.
3) please include whatsapp and email for it.
thankyou really appreciate your work here. well done
Oh looks so great!, i thank you for this kind of worf as other request i dont want integration with other apps, just that the led stops blinking after a certain time
Looks great, but as the notification bar isn't very bright I would also like to see the notification LED continuing to blink as well.
Also, would be great if emails can be included.
Thx man, continue to develop it for more stuff (not only msg, and calls).
I will consider some donation then ;-)

Great app man!!
In the future, could it be possible to have custom flash rate? I think even the "slow" setting is quite fast.
Suprised this feature was left out at launch. But thankyou for this app!
Works great!

Great app! Really something that should have been there from the start!
What I would like to change are the following:
* no screen turn on when you receive an sms or call
* email support (for some)
* timeout - after the timeout it would switch to the notification led it's using now.
I'm not sure yet, but does the low battery standard notification still work? Or do you have to turn it off completly for this to work?
In a way a really like to think that this should only be used for calls, messages and emails.. maybe even not emails.. It should diferentiate itself from other notifications.. so this could only be used for those that you have to instanlty reply.. like messages and calls.. But I would still use the blue notifications for facebook, green for emails and red/orange for low battery. I think that this is how both things should work together.
Really great, light and cool app!!
But like some guys, my screen turn on when I receive an SMS
Moreover, sometimes the vibrations bugs: normaly, it's like "brrrrr, brrrrr" but sometimes I have "brr..." so in my pocket, it's not really noticiable
Is there a way to turn the hardware buttons into the notification light instead of the Power button led? I have a case that covers the power button and miss the notification blink that I had on the Atrix HD. Thanks in advance.
There's an older app for that on the play store. Called LG notification lights or something like that. Doesn't officially support OG, but might be worth a try. I don't recall any talk of the feature... Probably because we have a notification light. It was popular on the i777 though.

Thanks. I'll have to check that out. The only reason I want it is because of the case I have. :good:
I have confirmed that LG Touch LED Notifications by Martin Börjesson works on my E970 with KitKat AOSP 4.4.2. I have the Diztronic TPU case that covers the notification light. When I get a notification it will vibrate first (can be adjusted), then light the capacitive buttons. Perfect!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.martinborjesson.o2xtouchlednotifications
I used to have a Samsung Moment that did not have a dedicated notification light, the Devs used to do kernel edits that allowed for the BLN app by Neldar to work.
Also, just in case there is anyone like me who keeps their phone on vibrate but still wants notification lights for Gmail without the vibrate notification, do the following within the Gmail app:
Press hardware menu button or three squares menu button in top right of Gmail app to access Settings;
Select your connected Gmail account;
Leave Notifications box checked, press Inbox sound & vibrate;
Press Sound, select Silent;
Make sure Vibrate is unchecked.
What I would love to see is the ability to assign up to three types of notifications to the three capacitive buttons that we have.
Example:
Missed call = Back button
SMS message = Home button
Gmail message = Menu button
Missed call + SMS + Gmail = All three buttons lit. Hmm... maybe I will email this suggestion to the Developer of Trigger - location profiles to see if they could add this sort of functionality to their already awesome app.
Does anyone know if the E970 has one LED light to illuminate all three capacitive buttons, or are they three separate LEDs? Edit: Boo! Only has two... http://imgur.com/a/ydoJb
I've been using an app called ButtonLED I found on XDA since ICS days and still works with KitKat roms. The GUI is pretty basic and not the prettiest but the app is functional. When you turn the logs on, it will track what app or keywords appear in the status bar. You can then go in and add that app or keyword to be excluded and not trigger the notification. I'm going to check out the LG app and see if that performs better (battery drain, etc). Here's the link for the info on ButtonLED... http://www.xda-developers.com/android/buttonled-turns-your-hardware-buttons-into-a-notification-led/ Even though the app is not being updated, I've been running 1.6 with no issues.

didn't work on mine unfortunately. I'd tried it a couple of weeks ago while looking for solutions on this issue (along with many other apps). I'm on SnowJB. So far the only one that has worked is using Xposed+GravityBox... the problem with that one is that it seems to link the side notification LED red light to the front softkeys LEDs, so when the phone is charging and the red LED is flashing on/off the front LEDs flash as well. This bothers me because once I go to sleep and charge the phone the white front LEDs do seem very bright... plus I don't like the fact of having them flashing every night for 8 hours straight, gives me the impression that it'll cause them to get damaged much sooner than normal since they weren't really desinged to flash like that. There is an option on GravityBox that says DISABLE LED FLASHING WHILE CHARGING... which I thought could've helped to prevent that charging flashing but at least in my case that option did nothing,
It would be awesome if someone could come up with a mod for this. Even better if someone knew what file could be edited through root browser to make the red light flash faster on notifications.

Thx....
didn't work either... which version did you install? (I saw there were several on the dropbox download link).
The problem I have with these apps is that they interrupt the normal function of the softkey lights... for example I like to have these lights always ON while my screen is ON as well, I don't like them to time out... and there is an option withing stock Android to set them up like that.... but when I use an app to use the LEDS for notifications for some reason it disables the stock preset and shutts them off entirely while the screen is on... I kinda gave up on this. I'd just be so happy if I could modify the frequency of the RED LED on the power button on notifications.

I use the same setup with cap keys always on. That's the downside all apps/mods have regarding the keys getting disabled when the screen is turned on after a notification. Simply turn the screen off and back on to reset the keys and they will turn back on/reset. I'm using 1.6.

just picked up the G3 on sunday. i am pretty impressed. i have one issue, the notification light. the light itself is the size of the head of a pin.(so small!) and the light only blinks once every like 20 seconds it seems.
I tried light flow but it seems to blink even when there is no notifications and it leaves a constant notification in my drop down that just says "lightflow" which is a bother. even w/ that app the size of the notification dot is SOOOO tiny. anyone else frustrated by this. i mean the dimish screen i can deal w/ but having to wait 20 seconds and squinting to see if i have a notification is killing me. any fixes or remedies besides lightflow?

You need to adjust the settings in light flow. There is an option to turn off the notification. I am using it. Really nice to have a fast blinking light for sms. Also changed the color for email to yellow.
Otherwise there are LED settings in the Tweaksbox xposed.

I really rely on the notification light and the S3 had a great one. Little worried I'm not going to find this one as useful.
Hi, from what I can tell the notifications from Moto Display are supposed to pulse while the screen is in standby? It does show them under the clock when you pick the phone up and it wakes automatically but I thought the whole point of it would be that it would pulse on by itself every 30 seconds or so if you had a new Whatsapp or whatever? Mine doesnt and I cant see any sign of it in the settings...
Any help appreciated thanks.
no, it doesn't pulse. It detect when you move it and then it shows up. If you want your screen to pulse you can disable moto display and enable ambient display in screen settings, but this one doesn't detect move, it always pulse.
I can't believe this phone doesn't have a notification LED. Blows my mind. Thank you iks8 for the ambient display option though. I was starting to wonder how anyone would know they have a missed call/message etc.

Upon a closer look I see the LED on here, which you're right, makes it even dumber. So that means I need another ROM on this thing that will enable it. Thank you!!!
i have LED working on stock rom with Squid's kernel.
Unfortunately Motorola tells me they wont unlock my bootloader since I have the ATT version of this phone. UGH! So no LED for me....
