Nexus 6 UAG Case - The Good and the Bad - Nexus 6 Accessories

The Good:
-Protection similar to the Otterbox commuter
-Lightweight
-Easier to slide in/out of pockets than Otterbox cases
-Buttons are tactile and responsive
-The edges have the most protection, because usually when you drop your phone it lands on it's edges
-Comes with a free HD screen protector
-Looks gorgeous
The Bad:
-Flash has some knock-back
-The microphone on the LED ring is covered
-Power and Volume buttons are covered, but there are slits on the side so lint and dust might get trapped in there
-UAG logo covers half of the Nexus logo, but you can pop the logo off easily
-No port covers

totally agree with everything you had to say about the uag case. same case i am using for me and my wife.
i do like the case and it is giving me the protection needed.
i really do hope that uag releases some more colors and when they do fix the camera issue so that you don't get ghosting on some of the pictures.
overall very good case, feel very safe with my nexus 6 in it.

Yes, overall a good case. Much better than my Cruzerlite bugdroid one I was using before, couldn't drop my phone from 3 inches using that.

I just got mine and the flash is unusable. I'm keeping it, I widened the flash surround with my Dremel but for the price I think it's unaccept. Seriously, how did uag release this with such a major flaw?
Also, is it possible for the mods to somehow combine the uag threads? There are 3 or 4 at least.

Probably designed and made the case based off CAD dimensions. Never actually tried it in a real phone.

Are you talking about the Cruzerlite? Those cases can take a large drop without hurting your phone. Check out the YouTube video with the Nexus 5 and a Cruzerltie case if you don't take my word for it. I dropped my LG G3 F460S in a Cruzerlite case down stairs over the summer and it was fine. I did break a TG screen protector when I dropped my G3 and it hit a sizeable rock but the phone itself and screen were perfect. TPU cases absorb a lot of the impact and help save your phone. I haven't bought a UAG because of the camera flash issue and the lack of color options but maybe they will release more eventually.

I have one on the way.
Not concerned about flash at all. I never use the flash on any phone EXCEPT for the purpose of a torch to see something.
The mic being covered up may be of concern, however.
That's something a well focused 1W 405nm laser can take care of, however.
All I want is something that will prevent the phone from getting wrecked if one of the kitties gets under my feet while walking down the spiral stairs and I have to toss the phone to grip the railing. Don't laugh, happened in the past and my Otterbox Commuter (on the S3) saved the day!
Don't have (enough) faith in my favorite (Diztronic thin TPU) case to give this kind of protection. I did drop my Note 3 from about six feet with nothing but the Diztronic TPU, fell onto concrete floor with zero damage. Case had slight scuff on corner. If that phone was naked it would have been dinged good so...
The Nexus 6 is pretty heavy so it needs some protection against drops. I'm careful but apparently not careful enough. Taking it on the ATV trails it's going to be well protected. UAG is about as good as Commuter and Speck for class of protection. Speaking of Speck it saved my HTC M7 from a 9 foot drop when getting out of a tractor and it fell onto gravel. Case scratched all to hell but phone was perfect!

How did you pop off the logo?

I just used the tip of my pocket knife.

To avoid damaging the plastic you will need something sharp and thin. I used the tip of an X-acto blade and it worked fine. Take your time! The letters peel easily once you get it started. They can be re-applied if desired.
Also I have no issues with using the flash with the case on.
If anyone has one that's having issues, try measuring the diameter of the cut out. I would be curious if they revised it.

Is yours covering the mic hole by the camera?

I also do not have a flash problem. It is very close to the mic hole but not covering it.

It would be interesting to see if it was revised. If so hopefully the newer ones are at Amazon where I ordered mine from. Where did you guys order yours from, Amazon or directly from them?
I use the flash so rarely anyways it doesn't matter to me too much. Seems I get glare using the flash when I don't even have a case on.

I ordered mine from amazon and it definitely had flash issues. I would think it's pretty easy to see if there is a problem, it was incredibly obvious for me. Maybe some cases and/or some phones don't have an issue?

I got mine from Amazon last week and definitely do not have any flash issues.
The cutout looks very close to the rear mic.
Tonight I'll fire up the SLR and take a macro of it and post it.
I've had cases in the past with flash issues and can immediately spot them.
This isn't one of them.
It could be a revised version.

If possible could you post a picture of the back of the case with your phone in it? I'm interested to see if it's possible to spot the difference?

Don't know about ghost affect but the case is great. I took few pics in dim light. No probs.

I got mine today. It does seem like the black ring is really close to the camera and almost completely covering the mic by the camera. I don't know how I can tell if the mic is an issue or not. I'll be testing the flash to see how it is also, but I'm not sure if that'll be a dealbreaker for me since I rarely use it.

Ghost effect does exist. I contacted UAG guys, they said , the case will be exchanged with the revised one. But they also said please contact after 3months.

[Q] is there a single good case for the slide?

I've been looking for a case for my Slide since I bought it on launch day, and I haven't seen one positive review of a case. The general consensus seems to be any hard-shell case has some sort of tab system holding the two pieces in place, but when you slide the phone open or take the case off it wears down the tabs until they eventually snap off. Every single hard-shell case I've seen reviewed has this issue. All the reviews on xda seem to be cursing the crappy quality of the cases, whether it be from t-mobile or a third party site or ebay. Does anyone have a recommendation for a solid durable case? I can't believe this phone has been out for 2+ months now with not a single good case. Thanks in advance.
I'm still looking for a replacement battery cover. Don't want a full case, and want a cover that is not slick. Not interested in those stick-on things as it adds bulk.
I love the silver case w/ kickstand from t-mobile. Very well made, no problems with it at all.
The kickstand is great for conference calls (don't have to lay the speaker or the mic to the ground) or watching videos.
i like the look of the silver case, but i have a red slide and i don't feel the colors compliment each other very well
if they were to make a black version of that case i'd be all over it.

Thanks! The case looks like a monster but I'm not too worried about bulk since the phone itself is already huge. Also nice to get another one of the t-mo screen protectors that cover the buttons too since I'm worried about getting dust under the screen.
I use the tmobile case also, which is actually made by bodyglove. its worked great for a few months now but I started having issues with it today. by the way it comes with a screen protector.

i have the same case, i dropped mine maybe 2 times with the case on and most of those gay ass tabs broke off, making it useless now cause it wont stay on
Yes tangrams those tabs are horrible. That's the issues I had. After taking it on and off a few times it'll start not wanting to snap completely on. If you are going to root or rom your phone leave it off until your done or you'll be buying a new case. Lack of a good case is what lead me to dump that phone and get a vibrant this past weekend.

I've used 5 cases from PDAIR.com. Aluminum, classic, professional black or white. Hugs the phone as close as a metal case can. They're 20 to 30 dollars but the quality and sturdiness have saved 5 phones from falls that would have easily shattered the screen.
Well worth the money, check them out.

Case-mate Barely There Aluminum does not cover top microphone

I got confirmation from Case-mate that this is the only case they make for our phone that will not cover the top microphone. I went ahead and ordered one using the Facebook discount. Go the their FB page and "like" them to get the code. If you are having issues PM and I will give you the code.

When you say the black barely there case, do you mean the normal plastic case (This one), or do you mean the AT&T specific brushed aluminum one in black (This one) the OP referred to? I'd like to know, even though Case-Mate might say otherwise, if all the ports, buttons, etc. are accessible in the normal plastic one.
Thanks

case seems fairly sturdy. the Incipio feather on my wifes atrix cracked on one corner (these are similar cases) but that was because of taking it on and off and its stiffer. On this case it seems easier to take off so I dont think it will crack as easily....unless maybe if you drop it alot or something.
Got my case!
I received my Barely There Aluminum today. Fit and finish is great as you can expect from a case that sells for $40! I really like the heft that this case adds to the phone. Without a case, I felt that the S2 was too thin and light. The feel of the plastic bumper is very nice. It feels satiny and "soft". To me, the plastic actually looks like powder coated metal. The aluminum back and chrome trim really makes this case look very classy. The camera opening has a little raised edge around it so when sitting on its back, the lens is protected. There is also a very small raised edge around the screen which will help protect the screen when placed faced down on a table, though dont expect major protection if the phone is dropped faced down and dragged across the floor. I only have 2 concerns: one is that the plastic on the sides does feel slick to the touch and two, the power button is a little hard to press. You really need to use the tip of your finger in order to press power.
This case may not be for everyone since it does leave the top and bottom exposed, but that is to be expected from a "barely there" case. Overall I am very pleased! So pleased in fact that I am thinking about getting the Case-Mate Pop or Tough for times when I need extra protection for the phone.
Umm...pictures?

Do you have any pictures?
Agreed. Pics would be fantastic, especially from a few angles. The ones on the Case-Mate website don't give enough for me to make a decision. Additionally, what parts are plastic? I figured an aluminum case would be.. well.. metal. Is only the back panel metal and the rest is plastic? If so I just don't think I can make myself spend $35-40 on it. :|
Another point of concern for me is that on their website, even though they say US AT&T version of the SGSII (which is the SGH-777 we all have) the pictures are of a GT-i9100. Am I correct in assuming that they're just posting a picture for a different phone but actually make a case for ours?
Question: Do the barely there cases.scratch up the sides? I had a similar case when I owned an iPhone and it scratched the sides where it clipped on to the phone.

Certainly not the only case that doesn't cover the top microphones, someone didn't use the SEARCH button... just thought I'd clear that up so people don't think there's only one case on the market that fits our phone, however hideous or GPS-blocking it may be.

Case has damaged phone more than being nekkid would...

Ok, I am kinda peeved right now. I bought a Diztronic TPU case shortly after purchasing my Note 2. The thing is just so slippery it screamed for grippy rubbery case. Fast forward a couple months and here I am taking my case off to clean out any dust inside it, only to find tiny pock marks all over the back of my phone. I swear it looks like a few grains of sand or something got in there, but I can feel nothing. I can only conclude even fine dust particles can scratch the back if caught between the battery door and the TPU case. Pretty disappointed my case has done more damage than keeping my phone nekkid ever would have. I baby my gear and this thing now looks like &#!$ on the back.
Anyone else experience this? Any better kind of case I should use when I order my replacement back? Or do I just need to be better about cleaning out the case more than once every couple months?
Thanks...

I have had this issue too. I bought a cheap TPU case off of Amazon while I was waiting for my phone to come from VZW and put it on after I had pkayed with the phone for a day. When it went in the case it was perfect, a week after being in it the battery door has deep scratches, the chrome bezel around the camera is scratched badly and the chrome bezel around the screen is DENTED IN! The case actually covered the bezel around the screen so it wasn't something in my pocket that did it, it was something that magically got in and out of the case. And lemme tell you those scratches and dents are especially noticeable on the Titanium Note 2...
After that I ordered 2 CruzeLite TPU cases, or whatever they call their cases, and thise worked much much better, my phone got no more scratches and was pretty welly protected. I still wanted something a little better though because I was still scared that if I dropped it that it would get badly damaged so when the Urban Armor Gear case was finally released I bought it and couldnt be more happy.
The sides are a way thicker TPU rubbery type material and the back is hard plastic. It gives the phone a more sturdy feel, like you could drop it and barely worry about it getting damaged. The few times I have dropped it didnt hurt the phone or the case, it is a very welly built case and doesnt add much more bulk than the CruzerLite TPU cases did. I would definitely reccomend you try one if you like the way it looks, the black and orange look really snazzy in my opinion, but I have a thing for orange soo....

I'm anal about my gadgets too. But when you put the case back on, you won't see the pock marks. If it still bugs you, just replace the plastic battery cover. That is why I prefer plastic instead of an all-metal body. If the battery cover gets messed up, you can always get another one. You can't fix damage on an all-metal phone like the HTC One. Yes it's a beautiful device, but once it gets the first scratch or ding, it will never be the same. Just like the first door ding on a new car

I've had this issue with previous cases on other phones in the past but not this time. What I did is within the first hour of getting the phone I wrapped it in that sticky wrap that's cut for our phone that they sale on Amazon then I put it in the case. One the phone looks sick wrapped up and two if I ever wanna pull the wrap off I will have a brand new phone with not one single scratch. Cause I found over time plugging a phone in every night in the pitch black before you go to bed eventually scratches around the port but not this time.

Yeah I found replacement covers on Samsung's site for $20. I know there's cheaper alternatives but I am always wary of knock offs. The bigger bummer is the sides of the phone are jacked too and ya can't replace those. Sucks. I was hoping to sell the Note 2 when the Note 3 arrived, but my resale value just took a nose dive.

I bought the Incipio Case LGND and have no regrets. You can find it on their website here http://www.incipio.com/cases/smartp...-cases/samsung-galaxy-note-ii-lgnd-folio.html or spend a little less and buy it from Amazon. However, I'd pay the extra extra money because it comes with a screen protector, cloth and lifetime warranty if purchased directly from the manufacturer. I don't have any issues with debris getting in between the back cover of the phone and the case. The phone is easy to place into the case and take out.
Always clean your case. At least ecery other day. Sabd and little dust particle will eventually get in there no matter how tight your case is.
As for me, I put on Xtremeguard back protector since I had the white version. I figured I can always peel the back and get higher resale value.

Supcase Unicorn Beetle PRO Series Review

Ok so I decided to get a more heavy duty case because I will be needing it for a couple of weeks.
Decided to grab the Supcase off amazon because it was the highest rated heavy duty case on there.
The case itself feels like it stands to the title "heavy duty." I say that because it does add a bit of weight to the phone, which i personally like.
The cut outs are spot on so there is no obstruction to anything and it have a dust cover for the headphone and usb ports.
The power and volume button is slightly raise which makes it easy to reach and press.
It also feels like it would be able to withstand a fall or 20 without there being any damage to the phone...
other than that there is nothing else that you can say about this case.
Now for the bad.
The rear camera cut out is lazy...by which i mean they expose the Motorola logo. and instead of creating a bright between the camera and logo. they just left a long cut out between them....bad design, because that doesn't really help protect against duty.
The back is a lot slippery which is a disappointment for a heavy duty case.
The included "screen protector" is just a flimsy piece of, well film...although it would be able to protect the screen from scratches it would not do anything if you phone fell at an angle which cause it to hit the screen directly.
Well on that note, because the SP is just a film...it does not lay flat against the screen which creates a giant haloing effect all across the screen....that is a MAJOR deal breaker for me.
**Edit**
Not really a pro or con just preference
Almost forgot...the include belt clip although sturdy, meaning it will stay in place, clips to the face of the phone, so you will not be able to check notification while using the clip...I find this annoying some might like the added protection in case you bang the screen against the edge of a table/desk or whatever else.
Conclusion...
This case its a 2.5/5
Chances are I'll only use this case for the next few weeks, then store it in a box somewhere until I need it again...You are better off with a good TPU case and Temper glass protector for everyday usage.
**Edit**
Turns out that not working out for a few people so I Heavy duty case without a built-in SP with a TGSP, maybe

Wish I had saw the earlier ?
I bought the supcase unicorn beetle and it's definitely a 4 out of 5.I admit the back is slippery and the camera cutout is lazy but I don't have a haloeffect on my front screen.maybe you got a bad one.I love this case a lot more than the ballitistic. This one alteast has style and fits the phone tight

Umm I wish i could take a pic to show you... but if you say that your front face is flat against the screen so that you don't have that glaring effect where it looks like you have water trap underneath the screen, then maybe I will try to contact them to get a replacement.
I love the ballistic case on my lg optimus g pro. Figured it would make the n6 to big for my liking. I got the supcase and like it.
i do have the haloing and so does my wifes moto x2013 with her trident case. I can only see it with the screen off and at an angle so no real problem, plus dont have to deal with bubbles. I do agree its slippery and should be more tacky for a hd case but even the ballistic case on my old phone was slick on the back, only the corners were really grippy. I personally like the camera logo cutout. I would of liked it to include the nexus logo as well like the ringke max case I also bought. overall im happy with it, it is a bit big but i feel it is protected. I had the phone for a week and didnt use it until i got the cases for it. I have 2 kids and accidents happen.

lol, I wish I hadn't used my phone the first week I had it without a case..and I would have like the cut a lot better if it was like the Ringke Max. Overall like I said the phone feels and is protected in the case, for instances I drop the phone in the gym last night (due to the slippy back actually, it really just slipped out my hand) and nothing happened happened to the phone. :victory:
The haloing i get with the screen both off and on, and from all viewing angles

Soft bezels?

I've had my white 6P for about two weeks now and tonight I noticed that the polished beveled edges are scratched up already. I baby this thing. Never dropped it.
Has anyone else noticed this? I am thinking of returning it for a graphite model. Are the graphite models polished too?

I noticed it. Second Frost model is the same too (I replaced my first one due to fingerprint reader hardware issues.) I decided to just live with it as the scratches are only very visible in direct light and are only cosmetic. I have read though that this issue is persistent with most technology that utilizes the same polished bezels. Take the Galaxy Note 4 for example. Over at the forums there you can see people talking about the same issue. I also have read that certain car polishes will help with the scratches but have not tried it myself yet.
Edit: I also baby my device. It's always in a case (Diztronic TPU) and only comes out when I want to clean it. I think my second model came with some scratches out of the box. My first model probably got scratches from dust in my pocket from when it had an open bottom case (Spigen Thin Fit.) Either way, scratches will form on this model over time either from dust or other debris whether you have a case or not.
Thanks for the input. I think I'm gonna order another and return this one in hopes of getting a clean one.

Nope...I'll be returning it and reordering another. Gonna go with graphite this time.

Had my graphite one about a week now - dropped it lightly once (my heart skipped a beat) but no visible scratches or anything. Ordered a case for it now.
No scratches on my aluminum. However, I dropped it once (with a Nillkin Nature thin case on) and there is a dent in the bezel. It's not very noticeable to the eye, but if you run your finger over it you can tell it's there. I'd say this phone body is pretty soft.
Well that's the price we have to pay for premium. Aluminum is a pretty soft material, so it scratches. It is not flexible like plastic, that's part of the material. If you don't like that material quality, then return it and buy a totally different phone.
Nope i babied the crap outta my graphite but it still got scratches on white itd be way less noticible

My graphite has gotten a couple of them on the edges (top and bottom) already.
I personally like my phones naked but i feel this will need a case, alas.
Can anyone recommend me some case that prioritises edge protection and retains the elegance?

Ringeke Nexus 6P case
Yes all metal phones are prone to dents and scratches. Thats why I dont see the hype with them. Solution is to buy a hard case and glass screen protector.
I have 2 dents all ready on the right side near the power / volume buttons. The second one I did my self, was testing how strong it was, by pushing my fingernail into the bezel, if you press quite hard, you can push a dent in it with your fingernail, that's how soft /strong the bezels are. I immediately bought a case to protect it from future dents. Spigen rugged armor btw, great case if you are looking for a thin good protective case.
Agreed, this is just something you deal with when you get a metal phone. Aluminum is soft, and every aluminum phone I've ever seen is prone to scratches. Remember the "issues" with the iPhone 5's getting all scratched up? Note 4's have this "problem" as well with the polished edges on them. This is one reason why I honestly prefer plastic phones, got a GS3 sitting right here on my desk that looks good as new. Plastic is more durable, but doesn't equal premium to most people. Complaining about scratches on a metal phone is like complaining about them on a case imo, but at least the case kept them off the phone. Usually anyways, polished edges seem to be prone to scratches even in a case. Dust/dirt can make it's way between the case and the device and cause scratching. My Note 4 that was in a Speck Candyshell case since day one shows a couple on the polished edges.
This will keep being talked about until people stop demanding metal phones. Even titanium would scratch, so no other real way around it.
