Kernel\Radio update - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

So it's been awhile since I have jumped on here and lets face it this site gets millions of hits and comments daily so I have completely gotten lost in all the whats new.
Simply put I have BeansTowns AllianceRom Build 4 08/25/14 and plan to upgraded to the new Goldie Lollipop in the next few days ( I got that part I swear lol.) My question is, with all of the updates and such out there I am trying to make sure I have the most Up to date Radio Base and a Good kernel. I have attached my About from my phone to try and help answer the inevitable "What are you on?" Etc.
I obviously found [Stock Collection] Kernels, Modems, Firmware, Stock Tars but without being around for awhile I'm sketchy on what version is the newest/what version would work with my Rom Ver.
So if anyone out there can spare me a few minutes to lead me into the answers to these question I would greatly appreciate it. Any info or recommendations are welcome. Just wanna make sure I'm getting the most signal, service, and power out of my device.

[Q] New User: Help Needed please

I am totally new to both GTablet and also when it comes to ROM stuff!!
As I read through the thread more than 90% of users have a custom rom, vegan... etc.. No one seems to be using the default.
So my questions are
Should I root to get a different ROM?
If yes, Which should I get?
How? Post a link or sth
What are the advantages? Disadvantages?
Thanks in advance
Djapatos,
From the tone of your questions, it seems to me you are new enough at this that you
need to move slowly.
First, you need to go to Settings/About on your tablet and see what Stock Version you
are at. If you are less than Version 3588 -- then that should be your goal now.
But you may have to wait a short while because the VS update server is being
reported down and under repairs.
Meanwhile, I suggest you do a lot of reading on this site. You there are lots of STICKY
threads at the start of the various Forums which give you most of the info you need.
You also can see what people are saying about the various ROMs.
For someone as new as you, I suggest staying stock until you get confident and know
what you are doing. (And that doesn't mean minutes or hours as some folks think!)
The TNT Lite ROMS -- are a lot like stock, but add in updates, Market and other
niceties.
The VEGAn ROM -- has a very nice, mature look and offers a lot of the same updates,
etc.
I would stay away from the Experimental ROMS. They might take you too far too fast. And they are experimental......
Summary -- take your time and work your way up to what you want as you learn
how to do it.
Good Luck,
Rev

[Q] I'm confused about this Razr...

I am no expert, I simply enjoy rooting pretty much everything I have relating to technology. Now, the Razr is an amazing phone, and BECAUSE its an amazing phone, I decided NOT to root it until a way to Unbrick became available. Well, that day came (A droidrzr dot come link), so of course, I rooted my Razr and installed the only rom I saw available for the VZW version. Here's the dilemma:
I am in no way making demands or trying to offend anyone, I simply have a question: Are there more ROMS coming out for the RAZR? I have seen all of the mods in these forums, I just have no need for them. I ask because the day my Evo 3D became 'rootable', about 4 or 5 ROMS rolled out right pretty much within hours, and while we DO have a custom ROM for the RAZR, umm...that's it. I appreciate the ROM, I have it installed, but supposedly the big deal was that there was no way to recover from an unbricked RAZR, and now there is, yet there's really no activity in the DEV section aside from people arguing about the locked bootloader.
Maybe I'm just ignorant and the fastboot files don't provide any help at all. I'll attribute that to what I said at the beginning, that I'm not an expert. I was just hoping someone could clarify because I literally check this forum twice a day hoping to see [ROM] at the beginning of a post and [CDMA] right next to it.
Thank you beforehand for any help or clarification!

easy answer
there's no real need of completely modded roms, and roms wich went out, are more optimization roms...
and... ics is on the way, think is a little useless, start thinking of making entire projects on gingerbread, knowing in a month we are going on a really different android version
True, true...but wasn't the ICS source/code already released? Or does it depend from device to device?

[Q] changing Android versions/ROM's

I've been running Jelly'Beans' ROM 1 through 22 since I've had my Note 2. Really have no complaints about it at all. But since he is getting ready to release his version of 4.3 soon, I started getting curious about the 4.4 ROM's. There are so many threads, and I'd just like to get some opinions from more experienced users since I have been strictly on Beans. What do people think are the most stable 4.4 ROM's? How many are out? I can't tell from all the threads titles, unless they specifically say 4.4 in them. I've only noticed the SlimRom one, but haven't spent a lot of time looking. What kernels are available, and overclockable? Do you use the same modems as in 4.1.2, I assume you would? What's the difference between 4.3 and 4.4? The one thing I like about Bean's ROM is it is based off the official Verizon release, and he does a great job in his work. I'm more reserved on just flashing myself ever since I've seen people talk about having to flash "downgrades" and other things to go back to 4.1.2 if you don't like the other ones. If it was as simple as flashing your TWRP backup I would. But I believe you can't use that in 4.3 or 4.4 either, if I read correctly. Any input or opinions is great. I don't need to get flamed or told to Google things. If you don't wanna answer don't. If you want to take a minute or two to state your opinions, great. I'm just curious about all this. This is an Q&A Help thread. Thanks.

Can somebody please help me with upgrading information? Currently running 47A stock.

Like I mentioned, I'm currently running xdabeb's 47A stock based ROM. I also have a few mods going, like the debloat script and the over sharpening fix. But I've really been out of the 'game' for a while, so I'm a bit confused and overwhelmed. It's kind of like I've unlearned quite a bit so it would be awesome if you could act like I'm completely ignorant in your answers...
Here is a screenshot of my current setup for reference. Please ask if you need any further info.
The point being, I would like to upgrade to the most current software available. Another important issue is that I'm currently living in a house with no wifi and very poor cell reception - so if there is a more up to date version of the radio firmware available, please point me in that direction. Can you also tell me if I'd need to flash any supplemental things, like a different bootstack? Is there any way I'd be able to dirty flash an upgrade?
And while we're here, how is the custom ROM scene for the VS985 lately? Any suggestions on that front? Because while I've been running a stock ROM for years on this phone, I'd be open to trying something more 'fancy' and customized. The only requirement is that it's stock based because I really don't want my camera quality to decline. I'd also like to avoid ROMs with big issues like 4G not working on the VS985.
So can you guys please help me out here? My phone really needs a breath of fresh air and I would be VERY appreciative of any assistance.
Thanks!
This is the Rom I been running. Its a whole different bag of stuff though. Theres all kinds of info on here. Youll have to read and figure out what you like. This will get you started though.

Q: Freetel Samurai Kiwami (FTU152D). Any current development?

Freetel Samurai Kiwami (FTU152D)
Any current development? Considering buying it. Surprising to me there's no easy way to root & ROMS galore for this. I mean the specs & the build quality are amazing for $95 new.
Thank you.
It's a nice phone but be careful rooting and flashing, make sure backup beforehand. I wrote a few posts a while back on rooting, backing up, and restoring etc. but other than that there is not much development for this phone because the manufacturer never updated beyond lollipop for the US version of this phone. I got close to getting the ftj152d's marshmallow rom working on this phone but just couldn't restore the IMEI info after updating to marshmallow.
Thank you. I did search & read your informative posts.
I decided against & bought a used [mint? we'll see, hasn't shipped] Motorola Nexus 6.
I'll be reading & searching like mad before asking & rooting. That is if it's in mint condition.

I've been reading up on XDA over the last couple of days on this device and appreciate that information also.
I've written directly to Freetel to see if the Marshmallow (6.0) update is obtainable here in the USA, as I doubt it will come over the air, but one was made available.
I decided to ask the following here since it's one of the more recent threads on this device: Has anyone used it with T-Mobile's network in the USA and, if so, are you able to get 4G LTE on the device? Also, is the GPS any good?
I am currently using it with T-Mobile and getting LTE fine. Last week I used this phone with a GPS intensive app, while it worked, it was a bit laggy/delayed, it takes the phone up to a minute sometimes to update its GPS location.
As far as 6.0, I have tried the ROM for Japanese version of this phone, imei info disappears for both sim slots and the US radio bands (such as band 12, needed for T-Mobile also get greyed out, and instead Japanese region bands become enabled with that ROM). I also contacted freetel multiple times but they were not willing to provide a ROM link. I am trying a different approach to try mix a ROM from another phone such as redmi note 2 or 3 to see if it works.
I really appreciate your taking the time to make this response and for being so thorough.
The phone looks great overall, I just hate using an unsupported version of Android and that's why I was hoping that either the 6.0 version from Freetel was available in the US version or that someone might have made a custom mod by now, but it appears not.
With regard to your GPS, have you tried GPS Status & Toolbox to see just what's going on with its ability to get and keep a fix? It's a wonderful utility and gives you scads of detailed information. GPS Test is good, too, and a bit more user friendly in its presentation but not quite as detailed. Both can give you some useful information as to what's happening with the GPS "under the hood".
I am wondering if you had any success with putting together a 6.0 Rom that kept the bands and imei info correct. I wish I knew more about all the software you have talked about in your great help article for people who have tried to flash the ftj152d rom. If there is any way I might help you in your efforts please let me know. I really like this phone and I would like to have more control of it.
Thanks.
