Hey guys, I have a T-Mobile branded Galaxy S5 (SM-G900T) that I'm using on Metro PCS and whenever I connect to wifi I can't receive mms messages. I will get the text and it will ask me to download the image but then I get a never ending progress bar. So then I'll turn off WiFi and I will have bars but the 4G LTE indicator will be gone and the only way to get it back is to reboot the phone. Any ideas as to what this could be? I have tried using both the T-Mobile & Metro PCS APN settings but the issue still happens no mattter which APN the phone is set to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

No ROM, it's stock.
wifi calling enabled and set to only make calls on wifi?
This will happen when you have wifi calling enabled. That is why you see the cell signal bars go gray or grayed out. Turn off wifi calling and you will see you signal bars come back, as long as you have cell signal (service) at your house.

Having WiFi calling enabled won't affect your data and messaging at all unless there is a connection issue with the router.

It sounds like a connectivity issue on the routers side if the APNs are correct. I would go back to Metro PCS APNs then check your signal strenth and link speed in the phones WiFi settings, then check to make sure WiFi calling does not display an error in the call settings. If all 3 are good then check your client list on router and make sure phones IP address and MAC id is there. If IP and MAC id are good run diag log on router and possibly change/test different wireless channels on your router.
I never have WiFi calling enabled so I don't see that as a cause, and I have tried both the MetroPCS and T-Mobile APN settings and it still happens. I'm still able to receive calls and send text messages but I can't receive MMS messages or access data. The only way to fix the issue is to turn on airplane mode for about 10 seconds and then turn it off and I get the 4GLTE signal indicator back along with full service. Its really weird because when this happens, I still have a signal indicator with 3-4 bars but the only the 4GLTE indicator disappears.

I will get the same issue as stated above. When you have bars present with no data icon, its because your phone is latching on to another network when MetroPCS is not to be found. At my office, T-Mobile service is the pits, yet i get bars present. I usually open the dialer and type *#0011# and it will show what band your phone is picking up, from there you can tell if you are really on MetroPCS or someone elses network.

ive been using the phone for a few weeks now and it was fine until today, i cant connect to the internet via edge . ive tweaked with all the settings but nothing seems to work. everything else is fine . ie i can make calls and send text's but i cant connect to the internet. i checked under the status and it shows the mobile network state is disconnected. i have no clue as to wat this is since im new to android.

Have you turned MOBILE DATA off via the power on/off menu .

Go to Settings- Wireless and Network- Mobile Networks- Access Point Names and see if the APN is ticked or not or the correct APN is ticked.
everything is back to normal again,it connected to the internet, by itself . must be a random bug in the os

I have experienced the same thing with my phone, except that it shows "activated". After a while it just started working again.
I've had the phone for a couple of months now and everything has worked fine till now, a little bugs here and there but no issues. A few weeks back (on android 2.3.3) I was unable to make or receive calls, but surprisingly was able to make text messages. I tried everything, turning flight mode on/off; the phone on/off; etc. I was on the verge of contacting Samsung but then suddenly the thing started working once I came back home from the office.
There has been no problems till then but today suddenly (now on android 2.3.6) the outgoing calls no longer work, same for outgoing text message; but I still get incoming calls and messages.
Just to be sure that this wasn't a SIM or service issue, I tried changing SIM's (different SIM did not work on the phone) and used my SIM on different phone (where it worked).
Also 3G doesn't work as well, but connection here is spotty so I wouldn't trust that. The only message I see different on the 'About Phone' tab is 'Mobile State-Disconnected'. I have full signal strength and all that.
My thoughts are that it was, or rather is a phone specific issue and would appreciate someone else's thoughts on the matter. As to my problem I assume it will sort itself out in a little while.
FYI: Samsung Galaxy S2; Android 2.3.6; NOT rooted; Indian version; On Airtel Mobile Network.

Hi guys, I have the same problem with my network connection also my 3g does not work anymore, I`m play with some secret codes like a ##72786# on my epic 4g touch sprint phone flashed to metro pcs and now I have no 3G service. In the setting menu under network status say Sprint. How can I get my 3g back?. The mobile net. 3G is on and the wifi is off. I need to change the network to metro pcs in the status setting and how can do that? Thanks for your help and sorry for my bad English.

I got the APN settings saved on the phone and the settings were pushed by the provider. I turned on the Mobile Data, also i checked data roaming as well. I already selected and enabled the APN that was pushed by my provider.
Here's what is going on: when I turn off the data, the "H" is seen beside the signal bars icon but there is a red circle with a slash which means data is turned off. But when i turn the mobile data on, the "H" disappears and only the signal bars icon is left, aside of course from the time and other icons on my notif bar.
Can anyone please help me on this?
My phone is not rooted, running official 4.0.4 ICS.
my mobile network state is either just connecting or disconnected.
I tried to use my sim with another phone and it can connect to the internet.
I don't if i just missed one setting on the phone.

I just got the same problem earlier today, and solve at the end, below is my procedure, just for your reference.
Try "Settings" > "More" > "Mobile networks" > "Access Point Names", and delete those APN(s) that your are not using.
You may also want to try to search APN auto set up in the play store.

While in Mexico next month can I WiFi call to the US on my g3 ?
I have the HTC One (M8) and did my update (Which added the Wi-Fi calling app). I am currently in Mexico (Been here since Saturday) and I couldn't get the Wi-Fi calling to kick in while connected to a Wi-Fi. Everytime I tried to connect by enabling the Wi-Fi the location part of the Wi-Fi calling app would kick in and I would get a message something to the effect that wi-fi calling wouldn't work in my current location (Not exact words but that is what it would tell me). So I decided to turn off the locate me feature in the Wi-Fi calling app and enter my home address (from the US) and it said confirming address took a while and it seemed like nothing happened. A little while later all my text messages and my voicemail s started to show up on my phone and the Wi-Fi calling icon showed up on my status screen.
I'm going to be honest. I was also tinkering with the network connection settings and manually selected cdma/lte in the network mode and enabled Domestic voice and data. I just wanted to get some type of service (i didn't care if it was going to go into roaming because I needed to make calls back to the states). So I'm assuming I am using the Wi-Fi calling feature because I don't have the data portion on the phone turned on and I don't have international voice or data enabled. But I will find out on my bill next month.
If I'm really on Wi-Fi calling mode then the key (i think is to trick the location servive of the Wi-Fi calling app to think you in the US by typing in an address in the US and not letting the app locate you automatically to Mexico....
I was trying to upload screen shots from my phone but the web browser let's me. I will pots the images after the 19th..

I just returned from Mexico and had turned the wifi calling on my last day their. At first worked great made a few calls back and it worked crystal clear. Then it started to ask for location I tried everything even when it did accept a location over the border in the U.S.(I was in a border town) it stopped working. My friend who has the wifi calling from T-mobile had no problem. Hopefully Sprint (lol) will get a clue.

Wifi calling is enabled but CELLULAR PREFERRED, I'm connected to the T-Mobile ASUS router on Verizon FiOS (2.4, 5ghz, doesn't matter).
Long press 1 to get into your voicemail. What you expect to hear:
"You have no new messages in your mailbox..." is chopped off and what I hear is:
"mailbox..."
If I turn off wifi, the issue goes away. If I turn off wifi calling, the issue goes away. If I change the wifi calling setting so that it uses wifi preferred or always (so the call is an actual wifi call), the issue goes away. If I force the phone to use HSPA, the issue goes away.
So even though the call isn't a wifi call, something about wifi calling and wifi, even though the call goes through VoLTE, is causing the start of a call be be chopped off.
At this point I have disabled wifi calling on my phone.

I have the same set up, I'll turn off WiFi and report back, as I've noticed the same issues...

My theory on what's happening here is this:
While you're telling the system too use VoLTE and setting cellular preferred, it's starting the call on Wi-Fi calling and handing off to VoLTE.
The reasoning it's simple...when on Wi-Fi, cellular data is deactivated. VoLTE depends on cellular data. When you start a call, it establishes it via Wi-Fi calling, and establishes the cellular data connection. Once that connection it's up, handover occurs, but this causes a few seconds of Audio loss because it has to set that back up.
You can see the delay yourself by turning off Wi-Fi, then turn off mobile data. Turn mobile data back on and you'll see the delay between enabling and being reconnected too the LTE network.
Hope this helps explain the issue. It's a handoff delay caused by having to reconnect mobile data and LTE, and you likely wouldn't notice for normal calls, but VM answers immediately.

I understand what you're saying and thanks for the explanation. And I realize that when wifi is on, data is going through wifi and would have to switch to LTE for a call. So this does make sense to some extent. But.... if wifi is on but wifi calling is not, the calls happen quickly and are not chopped off. But the same holds true - the data is going through wifi and would have to switch to LTE. Your reasoning explains it for wifi calls always and wifi calls never.

That's because with wifi calling ON, the call is initially set up through wifi calling, and has to hand over once the mobile data connection is up, LTE is negotiated, and VoLTE is negotiated. If wifi calling is OFF, the call is established via GSM, then (optionally, but not usually) handed over to VoLTE once LTE is up and VoLTE is negotiated.
I've done work in the industry with VoLTE, and my day job involves VoIP, so it's not as simple as one might think. Believe it or not, GSM to VoLTE handoff is much easier than WiFI calling to VoLTE. It still explains it, believe it or not, it's just a matter of which path. It's also harder to hand off from VoLTE to GSM when you roam out of a VoLTE area... which is the primary cause for VoLTE call drops.

Why haven't they implemented that then? That hurts them in the rootmetrics etc. scores where they'd test phone calls.
For example, band 12. You make a VoLTE call, drive to out of range of LTE and the call drops to HSPA or Edge. It nevers goes back to LTE. So when they're doing their tests, if the call switches away from LTE, then they drive to an area that is band 12, when the HSPA signal gets weak, the call gets dropped even though there's a great band 12 signal.

Back to my original point though - what I'm hearing is that this isn't unique to the V10. I'm wondering why this isn't all over the internet where people are noticing that the start of their phone call is missing when wifi calling is enabled but they've set it to cellular preferred (which is NOT the default BTW).
Hello everyone. I jsut got my Le Max 2 yesterday and noticed a very annoying issue. I can't send or receive MMS messages....that is unless I manually change my network from 4G to 3G. It's very strange that the phone doesn't do this itself.
I've entered in all the correct APN settings (this was needed in order for me to get 4G speeds. The downside is that it only stays on 4G unless i tell it to switch.
Some useful info:
I am on the stock rom 5.8.018S (stable)
I went into the menu via dialer *#*#4636#*#* and have selected LTE/GSM
I 'm on the Fido network in Canada (same as Rogers)
Will flashing another, newer rom solve my problem? Any help or advice would be appreciated!
I am with Freedom Mobile and do not have 4G. In the phone settings, dual SIM networks, network mode, even I set to 4G priority, I can get 3G without problem . In the *#*#4636#*#*, it was set to unknown by default. If you set it to LTE/GSM, I don't see how you can get 3G.

If I don't set it to that I won't get LTE. I can also leave it at unknown but it'll stay on 4g at all times. Point is, unless I manually go and select 3G priority and have the phone stay in 3G I won't be able to send/receive MMS.
I'm also having issues with the LED. It only works for text messages but doesn't light up for Hangouts or email (emails don't push either). As you can see lots of annoying issues! I'm not sure it's worth keeping the phone unless flashing a rom will solve this things.
