Hello guys,
I have been reading this forum for quite a while and found a lot of useful information here.
So, first of all thank you to all the guys who put some hard work in developing those programs to make our lives and our smartphones better!
So here goes nothing. Just got this LG Optimus LTE phone some days ago.
And it is packed full with apps I don't need and that Docomo prevents us to remove them. Thanks to this the batteries goes bye bye even faster than expected.
So I would love to get root access to get full control.
like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1376233&page=6
I read some threads, followed some methods -like 4 or 5 different ones- but nothing worked so far... Anyone who had success in that matter?
Really want to get an Optimus LTE (L-01D) but need to know I can root it first.
type this URL in your browser: i can't post links yet. logsoku.com/thread/anago.2ch.net/smartphone/1324176244/
these guys seemed to have tried everything. Scroll to #45, doesn't look like the Japanese version can be rooted.
they tried a bunch of things as well but to no avail.
I'm just curious, but the reason why I want to root it is so that I can get the nook app on it so I can read. I was able to use VPN to download apps on my HTC Desire HD, but when i got the Arrows Tab LTE, i wasn't able to use VPN to get the Nook app. is it possible with the Optimus?

I don't use this app, so that would be a tough question to answer.
Thing is, since docomo pretty much installed and configured the phone as they liked -with a crappy Home, slow as hell, that can be changed though- I am wondering if they would charge you extra for tethering.
They might have installed something to check on that. But this is just a random guess.
After a lot of research, I found this thread:
h t t p : / / houchi.net/products/l01-root
I tried and I successfully managed to root my phone following the instructions.
Heads up, it's all in Japanese BUT, if you just download the archive file and read the content of the files at the root of the folder with a text editor, you can just copy/paste the different instructions to make it work.
If it's too much trouble for some people, contact me and I will try to put the instructions somewhere else in english and with the Mac version of command line (really the same as for Linux).
Did not have time to have fun with it yet, but I removed some of the crap that the carrier bundled with the phone.
I will still have to look why it takes forever to start comparing to a Galaxy S for example (4 minutes is way too long...).
i tried and not successfully, only install Supper Use. You can explain for my by English, more more details
superuser wont work without root, try gingerbreak?
Edit: This fix is defunct as of the current OTA. For a working version of this software (Thanks Steal25!) check out the thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1947686
I'll be requesting this thread be closed at this point, though I'll leave the files for anyone still on older software versions. It's served it's purpose. Thanks everyone!
Original post:
There are a number of build.prop edits out there for various fixes. One such edit gives back the ability to make a choice of what program you want for a specific action. This was removed by HTC due to Apple claiming a patent infringement of patent #5,946,647. This patent is what caused the Evo 4G LTE to be stuck in customs.
Due to the nature of build.prop files containing many areas that can be tweaked, ROM devs tend to make different tweaks between ROM's. Until now this could have caused issues.
This script makes a backup of your current build.prop, and then EDITS IT IN PLACE.
What does this mean? It means you can flash THIS file on ANY ROM on this phone and it will not mess up any tweaks your specific ROM dev has put in place.
Why is this important? There are a number of build.props edited with this fix (and others)...some of them are from the stock ROM and some are from various other custom ROMs. Simply copying one over your current build.prop could lose you important optimizations, or custom fixes your dev has set up. By flashing this script you keep those customizations and still get the benefit of having your choices back.
Instructions:
To tell if this edit worked for you, check in settings. If the app associations menu option is gone, then it worked.
You will need to clear defaults for specific programs in order to have a choice pop up.
Example:
If you have selected Chrome for your default browser in app associations, you will need to go to menu/settings/apps/downloaded/Chrome/clear defaults.
The next time you tap a URL you will have a choice of which browser to use.

Thanks to iconeo for the original thread found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693809
Thanks to Steal25 for the actual build.prop edits.
I am including two zip files. The first one will make the build.prop change to allow you to choose your own defaults.
The second one (HTCLinkify-revert.zip) will allow you to put your build.prop back to its default.
There are other build.prop edits out there and I will be creating ROM agnostic flashable zips for those as well.
Please let me know if there are any issues with this flash.
Edit: I have uploaded a new zip that should work with the latest OTA.
nice man
so people can flash this and still keep their tweaks

Yep, exactly. For people that have a hard time editing build.prop on their own, this will do the trick.
Plus it's the easiest way to re-implement the fix if your ROM dev updates the ROM but doesn't include it by default.
So I'm guessing you can only use this if your phone is rooted right ?

You can only manually edit the build.prop if you're rooted to begin with, so even if you choose not to do it this way, you'll still need root to make the change yourself.
To flash the zip requires root and unlocked bootloader since you need a custom recovery to flash zips.
Made a correction to the first post. It was Steal25 who came up with the original build.prop edit, not SteelH. Sorry Steal25!
Mines ready fixed by me. But still, thanks mass for this.
Edit: thinking about this makes me realize just how bad apple effd HTC. I mean, if I was one of the vast majority of users who dont root and just buy a phone and leave it how it is, I would honestly probably return this device and buy something different. And that would be hard because i love HTC and this device. But, removing the 'complete action using' dialog is just not something I could live with. Apple really, really, screwed HTC... and end users. :screwy:

It's fantastic, thanks man.
I've been following this issue, and it seems the build.prop fix also works for other HTC ICS phones. I assume this flashable zip would work for those phones as well, correct? Since it's editing in place, seems like it should work for all (One X, One S, Amaze 4G, etc.).
thanks, was looking for this mod

It should, yes. However I only had an Evo 3D and an Evo 4g LTE to test on, so I can't support other phones.
But as long as build.prop is in /system and contains the line ro.da1.enable=true this script should work.
Again though I can't test, so you're on your own.
Edit: One thing though: You'll need a modified updater-script. Right now I have 2 versions of this zip, one for Shooter (Evo3D) and one for Jewel (E4GLTE).
You'll need to modify the line at the top of updater-script to your own phone's model:
getprop("ro.product.device") == "shooter"
Replace "shooter" with "jewel" for the E4GLTE for example. Or you could simply remove the line. Should work fine without it.
Ok, I may be asking a lot...
But I'm not familiar with editing the script lines,
Could you possibly either make a zip with the jewel edit in place?
Thanx

This one already has jewel. If you want it for another device I can make a quick update for you, just let me know the device name. Or if you want to test it without the device check line I'll pull that for you and you can test it that way.
Many thanks for this. Although i was able to modify fue build prop myself, i did have a hard time. Everytime i edited the build prop with root browser it made a copy of itself . Confusing stuff. Finally sorted it with SM mánager.
Anyways this is much easier for someone with my skills
Thank you

Not a problem. It will come in handy later if your ROM dev makes an update. Just flash and go.
This worked flawlessly for me. It's SO nice to have the features back that I was used to on previous devices. Thanks!

How To: Verizon S4 running T-Mobile service with LTE, 4.2.2 with many 4.4 apps and features
This took a lot of time for me to figure out. There were a lot of questions I had to read and a lot of testing of trial and error on my part. Many of the actual ROMs, apps, etc came from other people, which I will name and give credit to. Everything is working for me. LTE, call signal, wifi, hotspot, NFC, IR, EVERYTHING!
I've done some reading on building custom ROMs, but if any of you have more knowledge on an easier way for me to package all of this together I'd be happy to post something for all of you to flash to save everyone's time.
I'll post all of the details, everything I did, and what was needed, but only if anyone would truly benefit from it.
Anyone interested?

This is what I have and have tested. I will mention if I believe other options will work, but it does not mean I have tested the other options. I do not take any responsibility for your phone or data. You read this for educational purposes only and anything you choose to do is at your own will.
With that being said, I never bricked my phone or even ran into any serious problems while figuring this out. The worst I had was testing out different deodexed roms that I had modified, which some would give a black screen on boot. When this occurred, I simply powered off or pulled the battery. I then powered back into recovery, wiped data/cache/dalvik, then reinstalled a ROM that worked. You shouldn't run into any of these problems at all, since I've figured it out for you. Always back up what you currently have before testing anything.

Black 16gb Verizon S4 SCH-I545 with the original MDK modem. I will not go into detail on how to root or install custom recovery, as that was way too long ago for me. I will give you the links to the forums and tutorials that I used to do this. Please verify that your equipment is either the same as mine or that it will work with these tutorials before using them. If you use them successfully, please THANK the author and contributors. They all have worked hard to get us here. Otherwise, find a tutorial that works for you.
How to root and install custom recovery posted by open1your1eyes0

What is needed (I’ll get into the HOW TO later, but make sure this list is covered first):
1) A rooted Verizon S4 SCH-I545 model (other S4 models might work, but I have not tested)
2) A custom recovery (I use ClockworkMod 6.0.3.2, there might be an updated version and others might work. I have not tested any other option)
3) ROM: [ROM] [G.E.] [4.2.2] [AROMA] [VZW] GoogleEdition.v6.0 09/11/13 by Dubbsy and hlxanthus
Find it here and make sure to THANK them… http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2343355

Feel free to test and use whatever is posted there, but the below is what I was able to use and what worked for me.
PreBuiltGmsCore (Google Play Services 4.0)
Velvet (Google Search)
GoogleHome (Google Launcher) Although I’m choosing to use the latest version of Nova Launcher Prime, this worked well.
Gmail
Keep
QuickOffice
Keyboard
Hangouts 2
Wallpaper
5) These other apps for the 4.4 “feel” or due just to my personal preference.
8sms (Stock Messaging, KitKat) on Google Play
ExDialer & Contacts on Google Play
Android 4.4 KitKat Dialer (theme used with exDialer) thanks to Terrance Veigas which posted at this link. http://www.techniciastudios.com/android-kitkat-dialer-exdialerapk/
KitKat Clock on Google Play
6) The modem of your choice. Remember, I am stock MDK and can return to it at any time. I have chosen the MJ7 modem ONLY. DO NOT USE the modems with NON-HLOS unless you know what you are doing. Using these can potentially affect your root.
Find it here and make sure to THANK Surge1223
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2487298
Now for the HOW TO:There are two different ways to approach this. Depending on your knowledge, one may be easier than the other. I’ll go into more detail later when I have more time and as questions come in.
1st option: Install the ROM but avoid selecting the apps listed above if possible. This will help so that you can install the 4.4 apps later on without having to delete the preinstalled ones from the ROM. After the ROM is installed, install the apps from section 4 and 5 listed above. You might run into some issues with installing apps in Section 4 which is unlikely, but that’s why I prefer my 2nd option.
2nd option (my preferred choice): Open the deodexed ROM and replace the specific apps inside with those you have downloaded in section 4 listed above. Rezip the ROM and flash it. Download and install the apps listed in section 5 after you have installed the ROM. (I suspect there might be questions on details from some of you, but I will edit and add these in later when I have more time.)
During the installation, make sure you select and install the apps not listed in the sections above (4 and 5) that you might need. I believe Samsung WatchON is needed for IR. There might be other better options out there that I’m not aware of.
I selected the KT-SGS4 kernel by ktoonsez during the installation of the ROM. This one works great, but you are free to try any of the others.
After you have finished with one of the options above. You will need to flash the modem of your choice. Remember not to use the modem with NON-HLOS.
After this, go to the Phone Info app which was included in the ROM. Select Phone Information, then change the setting to LTE/GSM auto (PRL). Close the app. You may need to turn airplane mode on and off, only once. I did not have to though.
You should now have your phone running 4.2.2 with many 4.4 KitKat apps and features. Please feel free to ask any questions, offer suggestions, and THANK those above who provided everything we needed. Please do not criticize anyone involved. This is only meant to help those who were looking for a solution, plus it’s my first tutorial.
I’ll add more details as I have more time. I’m working on modifying the ROM listed above with all of the files needed to make this an easier process for all of you to install, but I will have to ask permission from the original ROM builders before posting. I do not know when this will be completed. Give me some time.
Thanks.

So, I decided to flash cm11 on my v500, and I love it so far. I still felt it lacked some LG features, so I went and looked in the G2 forums. This is what I found working so far, tested with official CM11 nightlies :

- XPosed knock-off feature (double tap on the status bar to turn the screen off thanks to Xposed framework) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2563976
- LG camera : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2540030

- LG quick memo : it seems to be an older version than the one we got on stock, but that one works. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41264383&postcount=20
There are also a couple of mods in this very section :
- QRemote : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2568914
- Qpair also works with a simple build.prop edit : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2571429
Some other things might be working, such as the LGEhome apps, but I didn't feel the need to try. Feel free to roam the LG G2 apps and themes section and to report what's working, I will edit the first post with them. With a bit of luck, we can end up with an index of LG apps for Aosp roms. You can start scanning through this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2591077
Now if someone could find a way to get QuickMemo working, I would be totally happy. Edit : got it ! Cheers !
PS : of course, I claim no credit whatsoever for any of these mods. All I did was read, download and flash ; all credit goes to whoever it belongs.

You must be on the V500 or V510 since there's no CM 12 for my VK810.4G - all variants of the G Pad 8.3, so I can't provide the needed file(s), but any stock LG or other OEM app as a rule will not work with a different build of Android, as they require LG's framework files and probably other things and although you might be able to put those files in CM 12, they still won't automatically just start working.
Usually someone who wants to run some app that's not made for the version of Android you're running (CM instead of LG) need to port the app which means fiddling with it, decompiling it, reverse engineering it - generally a huge amount of effort.
Not trying to dissuade you from trying but just wanted to impress upon you that trying to run stock LG apps on a non-stock LG ROM is an uphill battle not easily solved.
All that being said, I prefer Google Keep for notes since it works with any Android build, and any PC that can run Google Chrome. You might even be able to access Google Keep without having Chrome installed if necessary - not sure, plus it has some of the power of other Google Doc apps, being able to share, etc.
Thanks for the quick response. I'd guessed what you've just confirmed for me: that each version of Android, and even each stock Android version inside these different benchmark versions (if that's what they're called?), need their software tailor-made. I've found a few apk for LGNotebook, but you're right, they don't work on my modded Cyanogen 12 G Pad. However, I did find an LGNotebook.apk for an LG G3 (or perhaps G2) which was running Android 5, and that DOES work on my tablet. However, their are screen size and stability issues, which seem to make it unusable really. I guess I'll wait for LG to release their Lollipop update later this year, and fingers crossed I'll find the Notebook app somewhere and it should work on Cyanogen 12.
Thanks too for suggesting Google Keep. You'd be surprised how hard it is to find a useful note app(!). I'd love to find something simple like the LGNotebook app (which isn't all that simple, but you can copy and take photos quickly) or a hierarchical or even mindmap notebook that's just simple and functional without bells and whistles and an awful UI. I'll check out Google Keep. Thanks again.
You're welcome, and good luck in your search. Hopefully Google Keep will keep you happy. I use it all the time at home and work on PCs and on my phone and tablet. I don't use Windows Sticky Notes anymore, much easier to stick with Keep since it syncs to the cloud without any workarounds, and you can pin Google app icons to the taskbar so they're just as accessible.
Every build of Android that's not pure AOSP is actually merely based on Android. So they're similar, and even similar enough to run things that are meant to run on all of them, but each OEM like LG, Samsung and even Cyanogenmod, puts their own custom spin on Android with some apps that require frameworks and libraries that are made just for them.
It's like Linux. Well, Android is a version of Linux. But Linux for PCs, there's many flavors. Ubuntu, Red Hat... all based on the same thing.

So I've posted in various forums on certain ROMs with questions about things, but I just haven't been able to seem to find the right fit yet.I love AOSP and the ability for customization, Active Display, etc. Maybe someone can help me out here if I say what I'm looking for. Perhaps someone knows if these things are in a certain AOSP ROM. Here's three things:
1.) Hotspot that allows me to see who's connected and maybe name the device that's connected (i have a few things that connect to the hotspot)
2.) Native SMS app that allows me to continue to type after reaching 160 characters (some stock apps stop progress at 160)
and
3.) I know it probably can't be native, but some sort of S-PEN functionality (I use "Screen Write" a lot)
Anyone have suggestions based on this? Thanks for your continued help and development!

1. HotSpot usually has Access-Control which (when enabled) displays who is connecting or trying to connect (you can allow or deny)
2. I've never run into this. I am pretty sure Hangouts doesn't have this.I prefer 3rd party SMS anyway
3. For AOSP S-Pen use CM S Pen Add-on(ROOT)
I hope this helped some, good luck!
Thanks, but regarding your first point on aosp the only options for setting up the Hotspot are ssid, security type and password, is there another spot to bring up access control? Thanks for the other info!

It is probably ROM dependent, which ROM are you using at the moment?
EDIT: you might try this WiFi Tether app, always backup first just incase.
