As the title says, I'm unable to send any text messages using the default messaging app on moto E. I have my phone rooted. Messaging is a system application. I'm able to recieve messages though. If I change the default messaging app to some other app like hangouts, everything works. I have tried making a backup of the messaging app, uninstalling and reinstalling but nothing works. Also cleared data. When I send a message, it's stuck at "sending...". Check screenshot.
Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

I would you try switching the default app to hangouts or another messaging app then switch the default back to the stock messaging app and see if that helps.

Hello all, I have an unlocked att sgh-i717 rooted with beanstalk-4.4.285-20140426-quincyatt, and wanted to know is there a way i can use the regular messaging app instead of the hangouts. Hangouts keeps force closing when i try to send a pic or when i text its really annoying i never used hangouts before and now that i rooted it i'm having this problem. Thanks in advance for any help.
Just uninstall hangouts, and use the stock one.
You can also use handcent. It's a very popular stock replacement.
All of sudden I've been having issues with SMS crashing messaging apps. I regularly use Hangouts, though I tried using Google Messenger as well to fix this issue. It seems that whenever I open a conversation that involves SMS, the app will say that it has stopped. However, Hangout conversations and MMS(group conversations) don't crash the app. Any ideas on how I can fix this issue without wiping the messages?
I do have root and a custom recovery available if a fix would involve it. This is on a 1stG Moto X on 4.4.4

It sounds like something corrupted your sms data base. My advise would be to use an app to back them up then wipe the data of sms app to clear it out and test. Them restore and test again. This happens when people restore sms logs.
Hello,
When I use apps like Lyft on my Honor 5x and I try to text the driver etc. it tries to launch 'Hangouts' and then dies with a message 'In order to use Hangouts for SMS set Hangouts as the defaults SMS app'. However, I don't want to set Hangouts as my default SMS app but I find no way to clear the defaults on the default messaging app on my android phone. How do I change the default messaging app for apps like Lyft? I tried clearing the defaults and even uninstalled and reinstalled the apps but to no avail.

Open your default phone manager app select notification and turn off the SMS allowance.
yeah, i tried that but was only able to go to manage apps, then default settings, then only able to click messenger over the stock app. am i doing this wrong? is there another place to look? i'm also not getting notifications on messenger even though in the settings, it says it's on
bump
i'm also having trouble finding how to get the notifications on fb messenger to work when my phone screen is off.
give a screenshot of ur notification.
When you press the + button to create a message messaging FC
Deleted all messages from within the app but it still crashes when the + button is pressed.
While I was typing all this up I found a workaround, 1st I restored all my messages using a 3rd party app, then I changed the default messenger app to hangouts, hangouts suggested I try the new google messenger app, I installed that. Looks pretty similar to the default messenger app, and it works, so I'm using that instead.
No such thing. Please backup your data, reset phone to factory settings and try again.
