I got on three phones the same problem - so I can say that´s a problem from technology itself!
When I´m on the way with my phone and have turned on "LTE", I got best performance in data connection (internet speed) but worse phone reception. Sometimes I can´t phone someone because I got no connection to network to phone (but best data speed!).
When I turn off "LTE" I get best values with my phone reception. Data also good (about 20Mbit).
Could anyone tell me what´s the problem with it? You pay Euros over Euros fot the LTE ant then you can´t phone anymore?
(Sorry for my english!).
That's because LTE and 4G is Data-only. It needs to switch back to 2G/3G to make a call. (it should auto switch when you answer a call).
I suspect your provider doesn't support LTE fast switching, or your SIMcard is simply too old to work properly. Have you checked it with a different SIM?
(Say what you want about T-Mobile's (lack of) network coverage, but at least they made 4G completely free in the Netherlands.)

I think that was correct until last year, with the advent of VoLTE networks. This is basically VoIP on your LTE connection with your mobile network being the VoIP provider and it all being transparent to you. How extensive the rollout is in any particular country or network is anyone's guess though

Which country? I know T-Mobile Netherlands does have fast switching enabled. But every section of T-Mobile is completely separate from Deutsche Telekom itself, so it varies per country.

Uhhhh I haven't had prepaid in years..
The most stable and widespread network is KPN. (government funded) Which is, consequentially, also the most expensive. 4G is not available for prepaid. They offer prepaid with additional packages for data per month. 16 euro for 1GB for 31 days, and € 1,02 per MB after the 1GB runs out.
T-Mobile offers prepaid with packages as well. € 14,95 for 1GB. As far as I know 4G speed isn't available for prepaid. The actual 4G net itself is available in most of the Randstad (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, extending towards Enschede (guilte as charged) and Arnhem, and some cities in the north and south.
Vodafone offers a contract-free subscription (Hybride) that you can end at any point. Comes in standard and Red, with € 2,50 for 4G in standard. Red is 4G by default. 4G only availables in the big cities. They also offer prepaid with additional packages, 1GB for €10. 4G is an additional package for €5 per month.
If you don't want 4G, there are additional providers with options. For those you're better off heading for a shop and asking them, I don't know the particulars of those.
If you know you're going to be here at least a year, you can get a subscription for a year (either with a device or SIMonly). Much cheaper.

If they made a dual-SIM Moto X or Sony Z3 Compact I'd switch to one of those and sell my current phone, but I'm just going to have to get a Moto G and stick a Dutch SIM in it (and use it as a hotspot for my main phone).

If it's purely for data, a MiFi router is also an idea. Basically a router with a SIMslot. Probably cheaper than a phone (starts around 50 quid).

Very true.
I was just thinking that a simple phone and a MiFi router would probably be cheaper than a smartphone of any kind. I could be wrong, and it might be a bit of a hassle to swap them around all the time.

A phone's only as good as the network you use it on. You mentioned "merging," "incorporating," and "network woes," in your description of T-Mobile. Objectively, it doesn't sound like you're going to a very happy place - at least in the near term.

I've been with T-Mob through their merging of Orange and T-Mob 2G networks, and it was seamless. I now get better 2G reception in more places - hoping the same will happen for 3G.
T-Mobile is adequate, but not as good for data at the moment as Vodafone or 3.
Very interested in hearing some more opinions/rebuttals to this though. What would you do in my situation?
In the U.S., AT&T and Verizon are tier-one carriers. T-Mobile and Sprint, tier-two. I was with Verizon, but left because they're CDMA and I travel internationally a lot. To get GSM, I went with T-Mobile because they were cheaper and had cooler phones. Like your T-Mobile, they had acquisitions and network performance to this day varies by region. One of the areas I travel to in the States had piss-poor coverage. They pissed me off in dealing with the problems I was having with my new G2X so I left. I'm on AT&T now with a SGS2 and (so far) quite happy. We all use our phones differently. You have to weigh voice, data, roaming, reliability, service and price. I learned with T-Mobile U.S. that only focusing on price was a big mistake.

Ahh, I see. In the UK, T-Mobile used to be the smallest (or second-smallest to Three), but they're merging completely with another network - Orange - to become the country's biggest. Or at least that's what was said...
So looks like the ATT Titan is being throttled on ATT according to wpcentral and a bunch of people are reporting no faster data speeds than around 4Mbps. So that means its most likely category 8 HSDPA instead of cat 10. Is there any way to check this or to change the data speeds through the registry or diagnostics mode or what not?

edit: I'm fairly angry: My HD2, running WP7 7440 just got ~4.00mbps, but curiously after several tests I've found myself throttled to 0.87...

I was able to get 5.5 on the titan in a different section of my house, or maybe it was because I used a different server... anyway, I'm a bit happier.
what do you mean ATT put you on a seperate plan for 4G? There is no such thing.
ATT has separated data plans into specifically 3G and 4G. They cost the same at the moment, but they could raise the monthly cost of the 4G data plans, which is probably why they are advertising some phones as 4G that aren't actually 4G...

The 4G plan is for marketing and data collection purposes, it actually has no effect on what your phone can or cannot do in terms of your data connection.
You can have a "4G" phone and have a regular data plan and your data speeds will be no different than with a 4G data plan.
Giving the same feature multiple names is a common marketing tactic and also helps AT&T get data on how their products are being sold to customers. And yes, it also means on day they could throw extra charges on certain plan types, but so far they have yet to do that.
Kinda like Sprint's extra $10 Premium Data pack they force onto smartphones. All their phones access the same data network, but they just charge you a little more for having a smartphone yet the Premium Data pack really doesn't do a thing at all to change how data is served to a feature phone or a smartphone.

I don't know about that. All I know is everytime I change my SIM card, my service gets better. I had problems with my Focus staying on 3G. Changed the SIM, smooth as butter. Since they are free, I suggest everyone should change their SIM when they get a new phone.
so is there any way of changing this like you could on the samsung focus through the diagnositics menu?

Yeah, I kind of figured this was the case. I got the idea that they'll charge more from an article, which hypothesized that they intend to charge more eventually, since they actually have branded some newish H phones as 4G (not even H+).

I think this is more about how AT&T manages their network internally, than an issue with the Titan.
When I run Bandwidth to test speed, it picks Seattle as the server because that's geographically nearest to me. In one particular location on the ground floor in my house I get anywhere from 0.5 to ~1.5Mbit. Upstairs I can get 2.5-3.5Mbit.
However, whatismyipaddress.com geolocates me in Sacramento. When I do a speed test to Auburn, CA, I get 3.5-4Mbit downstairs and 5-6Mbit upstairs.
Now... 5-6Mbit ain't setting the world on fire, but at least I know my phone isn't broken, and the device isn't artificially limited to some piss-poor speed. On a class 10 device, 5-6Mbit isn't too bad.

A bit of history about my Optimus One: I got it on the internets and I believe it is for Portugal's Vodafone, as suggested by the default APN. This thing runs the original Android 2.2 and I did not bother to root it.
Recently I got the T-mobile's six months of free data promo (I'm in Boulder, CO) and all I get is a whopping 120 kbps downstream. All settings seem to be according to T-mobile's "official" info. Tech support told me that everything is peachy on their end, but my phone is "not supported" and I need to get a "supported" one from T-mobile.
Is this the case, or is it merely a matter of installing a ROM/app that unlocks the proper band for data? I am not really afraid to play with this phone, because in the very worst case I could actually get one from T-mobile. Also, because I have no contract, I could move to another provider, so there's some freedom. Thoughts?

3G enabled on the phone? I don't see anything beyond "enable data" and when it's enabled, there's an "E" next to the sign at the top of the screen.
Yeah, 3G does cover this area and the t-mobile rep claims the setup on their end is right.

Well, E is EDGE (which is just a bit faster GPRS), no wonder it is slow. You need H (as in HSDPA). If there's no way to enable 3G on Froyo (strongly suspect you just need to look harder), then upgrade the ROM!

Well, I see nothing about 3G under mobile network settings... network mode 'GSM/WCDMA auto', tried with and without data roaming enabled, APN set up as the t-mobile website suggests... Am I looking in the wrong place?
Also, could this be related? Which I guess could effectively mean the tech support was right...

1/ HSDPA definitely worked for me with Froyo. (No, I will not flash such junk again to verify, being on ICS now)
2/ There has been a GB update available for over a year. Why do not you upgrade?
3/ Normal european P500 specs are
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
UMTS/HSPA: 900/2100 MHz
Sorry, no idea what T-Mobile uses somewhere in CO. US T-Mobile has been selling this very same phone branded as LG Optimus T.

You dont need to flash any ROM if only thing you want is high speed internet..
First call the customer care and ask whether its a 3G pack that you got or normal
GPRS/EDGE. If its EDGE then its the maximum speed you going to get..
if its a 3G pack.. go to settings and select ONLY WCDMA and ask them to send you
3G settings too. Well i Activated 3G and got APN settings automatically.
Do ask customer care if your area has 3G coverage!!
T-Mobile does not support the European 3G bands in your area. In certain metropolitan areas you will get a 2100MHZ signal on T-Mobile, but most of the time you will be getting incompatible frequencies hence the need to use EDGE (2G aka the E which is much slower than 3G).

I think several responses are due to the fact that I did not make my location clear: I am in the US and the phone was originally for a European provider. I did confirm with the customer service that I am supposed to have a 3G/4G connection.

I suppose the frequency incompatibility is at the hardware level and changing the ROM wouldn't help. Can you confirm this? I am ready to flash cyanogenmod (or whatever you guys can suggest), but if this is a hardware issue, there's no point, is there?

Yes, you can't just change frequencies by just flashing another ROM. It is hardware related

You should also check out http://www.willmyphonework.net/, and if you end up with the FDD + TDD LTE version, that helps reconfirm things will work because of the 1900 MHz coverage.
You asked specifically about getting data inside buildings. My understanding is that lower frequencies work better for indoor coverage because they can more easily pass through walls, but they do not have the best range. In turn, if you want better outdoor distance and range, then higher frequencies work better because they are less attenuated by the atmosphere. Somebody else more knowledgeable can comment on this. But in the long run, it will probably be about your local coverage, too. I.e. if you are generally close to cell towers, the indoor/outdoor factor might not make much of a difference. And if you can somehow manage wifi calling with T-Mobile, that might also minimize any potential issue.
I think wifi calling must be baked into the phone to use it, but I may be wrong about this.
Any US T-Mobile users that can confirm this either way?
I am waiting on a Prime model myself, and plan to use it with an AT&T mvno in the US. AT&T supposedly has 3G on both 850 and 1900 MHz so 3G should work no problem.

This phone should work with T-Mobile 3G, and also what T-Mobile calls 4G, but which is actually HSPA+, and thus, by the book is on 3G. Take a look at the AndroidForums link I sent above. Supposing that information is true, it says the following:
3G
The technology for 3G is called UMTS. T-Mobile uses two frequencies for their UMTS network: 1900MHz and 1700/2100MHz. So if you check your phone's specifications and see that it has either 1900MHz or 1700/2100MHz listed as one of the UMTS frequencies, then it will support T-Mobile's 3G network.
4G - HSPA+
T-Mobile did a bit of marketing on this one. What T-Mobile calls 4G can more accurately be called HSPA+. This is not really a new technology, rather, it's an upgrade of the 3G technology UMTS. Therefore, if your phone supports the UMTS frequencies 1900MHz or 1700/2100MHz, then we just need to check to see if the phone supports HSPA (slower) or HSPA+ (faster). If it does, then it will be compatible with T-Mobile's 4G network.

Some people will want/need/demand LTE speeds (even though HSPA+ gets very close, and sometimes passes it...). But at least for my own use case, I don't plan to be downloading huge files, or streaming HD video when I am away from wifi coverage. So for me, data up to 3G/HSPA+ is fine. But you'll have to figure out if it is good enough for you.

tlxxxsracer, I'm always nervous to suggest something I cannot back up with my own firsthand experience. According to the information I pointed out, it seems like the RN2 should be able to use T-Mobile 3G/HSPA+ service. But it would sure be nice to have an actual RN2 T-Mobile user out there confirm this. Are there any of you around?
Check out the Huawei ascend mate 7. It's a little more than the RN2, but is compatible with tmobile lte bands. I'm gonna purchase it here soon. Idk where u live, but I used tmobiles hspa, and got crappy service. Only like 5 down and .5 up. But switching to lte I'm getting like 45d and 8u. Huge difference lol.

I was waiting for my phone to reply on this topic. I had lots of doubts about this issue, and finally bought Redmi Note 2. In the NY/NJ area, i am able to get HSPDA+ similar to my Nexus 4 (previous phone).

Thanks i also spoke with Tmobile store rep, and they said it will work and that i should get 4g (hspa+) and showed a map of exact coverage the the frequencies in my area.
Where did you buy yours from?

I got the Prime (32GB) version from merimobiles.com . The buying experience was good. If you plan on buying from them, signup for their emails, you get a $20 discount points. Create a new account and order via that account to get the status via their website. I forgot to do both these steps, and had to ping them everyday (5-6am EST ) to followup on my order. It will take a good 2-3 weeks to get the phone in your hands. I used Singapore post as my shipping option(extra $$), but they decided to send it via China Post epacket, which was pretty fast once EMS gets their hands on the package. It reached US within 3 days, but USPS/customs had it for a good 3 days after reaching our shore .

Good info, thanks and just found out it has 1yr warranty as well with option for $10 to buy 24month warranty.
Was there any import taxwith the singapore post option you selected?
I'll probably add shipping insurance too, just to be safe.
Did you check out with paypal? is there any protection from them in regards to shipping?
No import tax. ePackets is a sort of China Post & USPS offering. You can actually track the package using both their tracking system. I didn't get any insurance. The phone itself came nicely packaged in a bubble wrap. I did use paypal, but didn't check their shipping protection.
I also have T-Mobile and recently received my Redmi Note 2 16GB version from gearbest.com. Tried out a few different ROMs, both MIUI and AOSP. On MIUI, the network symbol shows an "H+" whenever I'm using data. On AOSP, only "3G" shows up top even though I have "4G Preferred" selected in network settings. Hope that helps!
Friend bought me the Redmi Note 2 straight from China. I have AT&T. Took my SIM out of the IPhone 5S and stuck it in slot 2 SIM. You can't slide it in all the way in as the SIM is a little bit shorter than the slot, it only works if you don't slide it in all the way. I get the H+ for data too which I assume is 3G and my signal is fine. If anyone has an easy way to use the LTE please update!

For the moment, this will not work on LTE using AT&T or T-Mobile as the RN2 does not have the correct band/frequency coverage. If somebody figures out how to hack the baseband and add the right coverage, and there is not an actual physical/hardware limitation, that could possibly open up LTE coverage in the future.
HSPA+ is quite fast, in fact, T-Mobile refers to it as "4G" (but not LTE). Some folks will want/demand LTE coverage, but depending on your use case, HSPA+ may be perfectly fine.

HSPA+ (H+) is similar to 3G, but is as fast as band B20 of LTE (the slowest LTE band)

I don't know if it was a custom ROM but it did came with a bunch of bloat ware because I barely had any free space left so I just flashed TWRP and installed a fresh ROM over it.
I can confirm that the phone works on T-mobile HSPA+. I used it while visiting the US recently with a T-mobile MVNO (GoSmart).
I can also confirm that Gearbest ships the phone in an almost unusable state due to constant popups. Flashing new ROM is necessary.
I've seen a few posts saying you can cross flash so you can move your v60 from t-mobile to att. However none of them are very clear.
I am going to have to switch from t-mobile to att as t-mobile shut down the sprint network in an area I need to be with some regularity and now has near zero coverage. Their wifi calling doesn't work well either as it registers very slowly and doesn't stay registered.
I've waited over a year for t-mobile to deliver promised coverage replacements.
It's becoming more and more a problem as I need to be in the area more often. Would appreciate any details anyone can offer. I don't want to give up my v60 yet or have to buy one.
You will it informative. But please be advised that there is no firmware available for AT&T V60. So it is not possible unless your phone is factory unlocked by carrier.
You can't unless you don't mind it being a data-only device (and I can't guarantee even that will work). AT&T has a VERY select list (I believe this is by IMEI so cross-flashing will not help) of phones they allow to use VoLTE on their network. Other carriers' phones are not among them. You MIGHT be able to beg/harass customer service to whitelist your IMEI. I think I've read about that happening, but I might be thinking of Verizon. I wouldn't count on it though. AT&T has a vested interest in making you buy a phone you can't use anywhere else. They're not interested in BYOP mercenaries who want to try out their service for a month then bounce back to TMO or Verizon.

Sure,you can crossflash the T-Mobile version with AT&T firmware regardless of the IMEI and it will work.I'm on A12 AT&T with a USC V60 and have no issues at all.It will be required to have the AT&T firmware on it for the IMS to configure properly.I did this back when AT&T shut their 3g down to work around it.

The key thing,does AT&T work in that area?AT&T and T-Mobile are currently struggling trying to get 5g fully working in all areas and so far it's been a nightmare.I'm in Nashville,TN. and it's horrible in most areas.Even down to the 4g towers are degraded and data speeds are back to 3g speeds as we speak.It's not only T-Mobile at the moment.
Where did you get the AT&T firmware? And the process to cross flash?

Yes att works. No its not 5g in either case. Too rural. T-mobile for example replaced more rhan half a dozen towers for one town in the area with two. Two. Then wondered why people had no coverage.

I have been on AT&T for almost a month about how bad the service is around my home address.We have 1 tower in about a 10 mile radius that's trying to serve at least 10,000 subscribers every day and it's failing hard.I'm doing good to get 4 mbps down and .5 up.Yes,that's a dot in front of the 5..lol..I told them point blank,why shut down 3g when you can't even handle the load with 4g alone?My response was, "we're working on 2 towers that are planned to be upgraded to 5g by the end of the year."Those 2 towers haven't worked in 8 years I know of..lol...I remember when they activated 4g and it wasn't this bad.The worst part in the US we're down to 3 carriers period.T-Mobile,AT&T,and Verizon.The rest are all MVNO's so those don't account for anything..lol..

Tried a signal booster? I used to run a 3 watt (max legal) and it made service possible. Also If you have wifi/internet you may be able to request a microcel from ATT for free

I'm working on a booster as we speak.It's become horrible the last couple of months,and all this 3g shut down crap.I have even down to started switching modem files on my LG devices in hopes it may help some.Time will tell..lol..
