Has anyone flashed the latest TWRP and successfully booted to it? Mine always hangs at the recovery booting screen.
Yea, just tried it and it hung for me as well. Had to boot into download mode and then restart to get it to stop trying to go into recovery.

Im not the only one having problems!
Do any of you people Read the FAQ's
TWRP Is not Supported on the Verizon S4(unless your phone came with VRUMDK AND WAS NEVER UPGRADED)
neither is Clockwork mod or philz or any custom recovery
your only option is safe-strap that's it nothing else

I don't think 2.8.5 is loki'd if you downloaded it from twrp's site or used goomanager or flashify then its not gonna work

Hmm interesting. I've used flashify for the past few releases, guess its time to grab the Loki patch and try again.

id wait for @hlxanthus to update his installer script
there is no reason to upgrade anyway forcing it may end in a softbrick

Unfortunately, it is nothing to do with loki (as I tried to loki it too) so I cannot update my AIO flashable package yet.
I'm on MDK. And I've flashed the last few releases from the TWRP site as well. In fact, when 2.8.5.0 didn't work, I replaced it with the 2.8.4.0 from their site.

Great info here Triscuit ! MDK owners should know this work-around when their recovery gets borked!!
2.8.5.0 is no longer available on the Verizon GS4 TWRP download page, so I think they figured out that it was messed up.

1. I was in rom manager earlier and noticed it says I have both CWM and TWRP installed. I remember installing project freegee w/CWM but not TWRP. Is this an error? If so, is it an issue?
2. I'm seeing something about CWMtouch or whatever. I just installed what came with freegee. I'm not quite sure how to use adb for the updater script. Is it necessary that I install this? Is freegee using a way outdated version?
Thanks in advance.

You need to upgrade to a new recovery. The one that came with free gee is broken, so any backups you made with it are no good. I personally use sk8's recoveries, but TWRP is good to go too.

I don't use rom manager, but I'm pretty certain you can only have one recovery. Also, the updater script isn't needed either.
Someone will jump in here with more info.

Just flashed the updated zip, rebooted into CWM and it worked. Thanks for your help =)
I have a noob question. I unlocked/rooted my phone using the CASUAL method and it put twrp recovery on there. Is it possible to switch that to clockwork mod that I am more familiar with and if so, how do I do it?
Thanks in advance.

Ah ok. From the 1-2 times I have used it it seemed fairly straight forward. I just know for things like CM10 rom it says install cwmod first then flash the rom. Is it possible to flash cm10 from twrp?

Yes it is. Just use goomanager to update it TWRP to the latest. Also I guess you could just use ROM manager to install CWM, but as stated TWRP seems to be the best for the note

Good news is if you can get into download mode then your not bricked. You may have to just Odin the factory image back to stock and you should be fine. Don't panic!

Nope no roms at the moment. Next time do a little bit of reading, it goes a long way. Its been beaten to death literally theres no custom recovery for me7, its been posted atleast a hundred times and its posted in the me7 image thread as well. Check out the safestrap thread in the general section. Hashcode is working on a method for roms/recovery as we speak. After you get your phone fixed and rooted if you choose to do, look into xposed framework and the wanam module.from the play store. You will atleast be able to get some customization out of the stock me7 rom.

Hes not screwed he just has to odin the stock me7 image. The phone is still bootable in fact but everytime he tries to go into recovery its going to throw him into download mode. Back onto topic I would odin one of the stock me7 images so you will atleast have a stock recovery.

I was able to flash a stock image and root it. I'll just wait it out for ME7 to be cracked.
Hi, I have been using one of the earliest Hyperdrive ROMs without updating it.
The other day I accidentally held the power button and went into Recovery Boot..
Now I'm stuck in either Recovery or Download mode.
What I've Tried
Simply rebooting - gets me back into Recovery
Turning everything off and plugging into my computer to charge - screen stays black and constantly vibrates
Odin flashing - keeps failing
Note* I did recently switch my Verizon phone to T-Mobile provided..
Would that have affected my Model?
Would I have to stop flashing ME7?
Is there another way to fix this?
I'm so lost I've always been able to get out of my soft-bricks

I don't know much about NC5 is there much of a difference? and is that just a model where I can still install ROMs on top of?
Thanks for the help so far though I really appreciate it..
You can install SafeStrap on NC5 just look through the forums I had an NC5 version before my MDK.
So this NC5 is a sure fire way to get me out of this softbrick?

Yes. I soft bricked my MDK S4 when encrypting a 5.1 rom and had to use odin and tar file to fix. Make sure to do the "Full Wipe" and follow directions to the letter when doing so.
Alright I'll give it a shot. Thanks

Do I need to install any other Root or Boot Recovery? Or can I just flash the Tar because I'm already Rooted and on Safestrap
Nvm I just finished flashing NC5 I'm still kind of confused on where to look for ROMs and the Root
Use towel root when on NC5 and search for SafeStrap install method.

I have tried installing TWRP 2.8.7.0 twice now through ODIN and it shows PASS, but when I try booting into recovery it always says something about installing update and I end up in stock recovery. It's my understanding you didn't need root to install custom recovery... am I mistaken?
Anyone? Really need help with this to use Debloater.

Hopefully it's not as fck'd up as 5.0 tho. 5.0 wasn't even buildable with out fixing crap first
