So, I thought this could be interesting. This could be a thread for all people that still use HTC EVO 3D.

This model dates back from 2011, and it never became a popular model, like some other HTC models.
I bought mine in 2012, and I use it to this very day. It's still preserved, almost in mint condition, even though I use it every day. It only has a little scratch in the lower left corner.
During these 2.5 years, the phone was taken only once to the repair shop (digitizer broke), it was around a year and a half.
Since then it works like a charm.
I never played video games (except things like Mahjong), I use it for internet, calls, messaging and I watch a lot of videos on it. Battery life is good, the only downside it hasn't received any official update for any of the newer Androids. It's really massive, and I like the casing. Some Samsung models (like Galaxy S2, and even S3) look like toys (light and plastic) compared to EVO 3D Interesting fact - I never used the 3D camera, and I never heard someone else did
What are your thoughts?
I use it as MP3 player and activated it on freedompop. Contemplating buy m7 since that has LTE. I am also using cm11 with no gaps with Amazon app store installed to preserve battery life
I was really hot on it and shelled out quite a bit when it appeared 2011 on the European market, and I will use it as long as possible for my money I consider myself not a heavy but steady user, that is I read my xda, newspaper pdf and my comics in a browser everyday. It has enough memory to preload my 30 comics web pages so when I commute by train an the net is spotty I can still read everything. Oh and yes, I indeed use it to take 3d pics every now an then, that was the original idea when I bought it back then. I use to take 3Ds with my regular 3D cam as well, and so my gallery's 3D pics take quite a share on the 64GB sd card.
anecdote: Just for fun I once loaded 54000 pics (a decade's worth of pics) on the sd card. worked ok, but the indexing of the gallery took forever, every boot...
Apart from not top speed compared to newer phones it still is fast enough, thanks to heavy modding and custom ROMs. No need for Lollipop so far, still on ICS.

i bought it on march '12 since it was cheap at the time (one s and one x were around the corner so i just picked a nice sale)! the phone is still capable of running basic things, and the only reason i would upgrade is camera, i simply hate evo's one! for the moment i'll keep it, i wanna wait and save some money since i want my next phone to be a BIG upgrade in every aspect! this is the reason i won't buy phones like moto g: it's a great phone, maybe it would be good enough for me, but 1gb ram really pisses me since i already have on my evo!

oh, and by the way, it survived a nice fall in a Sabaton's concert few days ago, not even scratched another guy wasted his nexus 5 instead

I still use my evo 3D because i have no money now to change it!
But I would have waited until this year anyway because this year there will be a revolution with the new 20nm processors of Snapdragon! (My dream would be the htc hima).
2014 it wasn't a year of innovations! if I were to change now my phone, I would buy a LG g2 for 250 Euros.
Then i will wait I think this summer or maybe the end of 2015 to change the phone, hoping that my HTC alive until that day!
Meanwhile I expect @Hahaburger continues its glorious project (cm12) on our phone! And with a 3.4 kernel I hope still in a sense 5 a day

As a mp3 player in my car, and activated on freedompop to stream music or even use GPS. Using CM11 no gapps with amazon app store and browser to side load apps not available. FP for what ever reason is not taxing data when streaming. Not at all complaining. I have also used it as a hot spot except spring 3G speeds are abysmal at best. I am surprised at how well streaming works most of the time
I bought mine last year for $50 including the hdmi adapter.
3d screen and camera are fun. They merit development even though HTC bowed out.
too bad ics is the only way to have that camera.
us cdma, virgin mobile, $35 plan, by the way.
my evo does pretty well running a really stripped-down stock 4.0.1 with varying kernels (currently jcfunk's butteredtoast build) with xposed, aide, terminal.
alongside chroot armhf ubuntu 14.04 with xserver xsdl instead of vnc, which even allows a certain amount of gl acceleration from ubuntu.
no chroot sound yet have I figured out though.
It keeps up with the Toshiba laptop I was using until last year (though I had 2gb ram shoehorned into that) but I can't use the android build system on arm, even if I had something fast enough to use it properly.
I can build kernels and other software fine on it though, and have.
it entertains me while I work to pay the bills, supply the children's never-ending need for new commodities, and consider when I'll be able to save enough for a desktop to replace my poofed one that died in December.
my evo streams well sometimes, and 3g bites but it doesn't matter whether it's 'throttled' or not, it has the same top end speed.
good for the GPS and phone functions too. I use it daily for work, and gave up my $25 plan and optimus v for the GPS software, mostly. My V has limits on what it'll run with tiny ram and armv6.
If I buy one $35 plan once every six months, I can keep 3g radio accessible, and use droidvpn to hack it and get free 3g for next 5 months. I made a YouTube video about it

I have a 3d I got off a ebay for $8.00 it was dead but my blessed hands put life back into it, except it likes to touch it's self. Still think it functions as while as my G3 just with a smaller screen. If I can figure out what Chad G. did to the kernel to make it so fast, I will do it to the G3.

I ask myself that every day. Well, I didn't have to pay for it. My Mom had bought it new a few years ago, but didn't like how it would spontaneously do stuff - take pictures, call people, etc. She put it in a drawer and bought an iphone. When I lost my old phone (Samsung Rugby Smart), she gave it to me. I had to switch from AT&T to Sprint to do this, but they gave us each a tablet, so that was a big incentive (We love our Galaxy tablets and use them every day). That was about a year ago. I replaced the battery in the EVO 3D with cheapie I bought online, and that mostly solved the power problem, but the screen sensitivity thing has gotten worse.
I use it to take pictures and listen to audiobooks through Overdrive, but it is not a success as a communications device - it calls and texts people by itself and usually the screen locks up so I cannot end these calls once they are started. I can't make selections in a voicemail menu (most of the time). I would like to try rooting it but I don't think I know enough to manage it by myself. (Also I am not sure that Overdrive would still work). So I really need to either get this phone fixed or replace it soon. I need to have a dependable phone since I am looking for a job, but can't afford much on what I make now as a temp. Even if I had the money, I couldn't see spending $600+ on something that will be broken, lost, or, at best, obsolete after a year or two. So I guess I'm looking for a phone that's old and reliable versus old and unreliable.

Digitizer seems bad, lucky there easy to replace and cheap, about $7 now. It's a very common issue with the phone. Also at less for me, using the oldest or first radios and 56xxx prl, gave me the best 3G speeds. 1 Mbs down
Because I'm broke. And yes, paying an obscene amount of money for a new phone about every 2 years is ridiculous.

Yep! Same here besides I don't even use it for a phone at all mostly for music, videos, & camera all on WiFi. Besides that thing is damn near indestructible. Dropped too many times to count ran it over once even dropped thing in bucket of water, hell to root tho.

I still use mine as an mp3 player. I hate sense but with a good custom ROM it works well.
I'm still using mine because the Nexus 6P is not available I think that 4 years with the same smartphone have been a good run

I've never tried Android, but if that phone wasn't CDMA I'd probably give it a go.
The EVO is definitely a device I'd love to have a go with. I enjoy using my HD2 but the EVO definitely has a few features i'd be interested in, mainly the Android OS, but also the better camera and the HDMI out.
HDMI-out is the killer feature I miss on the HD2 (I'm not even sure I would use it much, but I love convergence me )
I love the slimness of HD2 so I'm not sure yet.
Both my daughter and wife have the Evo. It is a fantastic phone. I find myself playing with it over my HD2 frequently. My HD2s biggest advantage is Outlook/Exchange. Android has some pretty good Exchange integration, but not as good as WinMo.
Turning on 4G kills the battery pretty quick. The battery cover is pretty cheesey compared to the HD2's. Android market beats Microsoft's marketplace handily.
I've been playing around with the HTC Desire, which also has Adroid on it and I was amazed by it's responsiveness. In other words, it's fast!
As you can see in the review, browsing the internet on the HD2 (this is probably a opera mobile browser thing) is annoying, as you have to pan and zoom in/out all the time; the browser adjusts pages for you, but not always in a convenient way.
The Android market is huge, and mostly free. But that doesn't get me enthousiastic, as I have found all my application for WinMo here on XDA (you gotta love this site, big thanks for all the developers!).
Google Maps Turn by Turn navigation isn't available for WinMo (that's correct right?) yet. I'd really love to have that feature on my HD2.
I'd also like to have the one button press to get an overview of all the home-tabs as in Android on my HD2, but maybe this is already developed or being developed.
So, for me, in the end, I'll stay with my HD2 for a while (at least 10 months as my contract will then be renewed (yay for "free" phones ) Maybe by then Android will have left WinMo even further behind.
Seemless outlook syncing, tomtom and garmin keep me with windows mobile...
Never been tempted to android or iphone...
Its that simple for me...
My mate's trading in his hero for a desire... I'll grab it, play with it for a few minutes and give it back and say "yeah, nice...", then walk away thanking God I have my HD2...
Android and iphone interfaces may be smoother, but that's not the phone experience I'm worried about...

My girlfriend has an iphone4, and a coworker of mine has the evo4g, and I really can't see myself using either of those phones on a daily basis. I like the minimalistic of cooking my own ROM, I like the idea of using whatever software I want, when I want, without having to fork over $2-3 dollars for it. Conversely, I want to be able to manage everything manually on my phone. I want to have the ability to establish where the cache is going to be, I want to be able to tweak and "mod" the behavior of the program im running. I don't want the OS to dictate that.
Basically it comes down to functionality and flexibility, and with Cookies Home Tab, no two HD2s are alike...which makes the phone that much more unique.
On the other hand, you could argue that the apps are what make the phone, but honestly, I dont need to further clutter my phone with countless sports score apps, food apps, or any of that junk. Everything basic amenities that a smart phone need are already available on the HD2/windows mobile.
i jumped from sprint to t-mobile after the evo was already out. I'm not interested in android at this time and I'm pretty sure with nrgz28's cht ROM, it's every bit as smooth as the iphone4 and evo.
What's sad about sprint for me was the data speeds on sprint (3g). I was getting only 500-700kbps. I'm getting 2000-3000 kbps on t-mobile on hspa with hspa+ rolling out this month (according to my local t-mobile). So my speeds right now are similar or close to sprint 4g, then will blow right past them very soon.
Honestly, I don't get the jump to android, especially an htc device. Sense is very similar on both and you hardly dig into winmo anymore anyways.
I think that if you have 4g in your area, go for the evo if you are looking for something different, but if not, and your t-mobile coverage is good, you might as well wait at least till this fall and see what is coming out (like all the galaxy s and galaxy s pros). Not to mention there is some sweet spec'd wp7 coming down the pipe (1.5 ghz snap dragon anyone???).

customizabilty FTW! thats why i stick with winmo too. i can make my phone completely my own.
im sick of the whole "app store" argument too. iphone & android have oh so many apps... most of which are stupid games & frivolous bull****. winmo has as many apps as they do, theyre just not all organized in the app store yet. most of them are actually useful too. MS only recently made an app store cause googling for the app they want is too much work for most people & they were losing out to the competition.
why would you go from hd2 to evo when hd2 can run android too?
i'll stick to a Windoes mobile phone no matter what....dunno why, s'pose it's like a PC....no way would i change to apple (IMHO) s**T like that.
prob change my phone in 3 months, maybe even a year, but whatever it will be, it'll definitely be a windows operating system.

I've been an iPhone user since they first hit the market for no other reason than I'd always been an iPod user and I liked the concept of syncing everything to a single device. Sure, I could have made the Android switch a while ago but there wasn't a phone out there that really captured me quite like the GNote has.

I was kind of in the same boat as you. I had 3 different models of iPhone, before I finally got tired of the same ole restricted, small screen device and decided to jump ship when the rumored iPhone 5 wasn't to be. I went with the Galaxy Skyrocket, and have a white Note on preorder. I can tell you, it was the best decision I ever made! I couldn't fathom going back to an iPhone at this point. The openness of Android has been great.
I am dropping the iPhone 4s for the GNote. I don't have any real issues with the 4s but over time the Apple environment has felt restrictive to me. I use the bejeesus out of my phone too and the extra real estate and improved specs of the Note are valuable to me.
I had the Intl version for a few weeks and absolutely loved it (even though it completely crapped out on me). Great screen and Android is so much more enjoyable to live within if you have any "geek" tendencies at all.
The GNote will act as both smartphone and tablet for me - I have already passed my iPad on.

What do you mean by openness besides greater customization than the iPhone (except when jailbroken)? While I've kept a watch on what's been going on with Android as a platform I've not read into as much as I probably should have in terms of what it can do, or better yet what a user can do. Being a previous iPhone user yourself, what do you like best about the Android platform?

Mine will act as both as well. I love the real estate of this phone. 5.3" is a lot. It looks like the difference between Rhode Island and Texas when compared to the iPhone (ok, maybe a little dramatic). At this point I think the kids have used my iPad more than I have. I used to take it to work all the time but lately I've been just leaving it at home. Don't get me wrong, I love my iPad, but carrying two devices around isn't something I want to do which is why I went the iPhone route to begin with. The GNote brings me back to a single device that serves multiple (practically speaking) purposes.
I currently using the IP4, I am dropping the 4S for the GNote.
I'm switching from iP as well. Last phone I actually purchased was a 3g. Loved it . . . it was amazing at the time . . . lol. My cousin gave me his 3gs when he upped to the 4s and even the difference there was night and day for me.
Same thing as you, though . . . no phone wowed me until I saw this thing. I was brainstorming in September when I decided I wanted a new phone. I wanted a tablet and a phone but didn't think it existed. I Googled things like "phone tablet hybrid" and eventually came across the Note. Haven't looked back since and next Friday is the day I've been crossing my fingers for . . .
By the way have you guys held one yet? Or passed by best buy and held their dummy model yet to get a feel of the actual size? its bigger than the iphone for sure. But doesnt weigh a whole lot more. This thing weighs almost the same as my htc inspire.

I have not. Was at a local BB last Friday before the pre-order and when I asked them about it they all looked confused. They couldn't even confirm if I could pre-order with them.
I did however play around with the Samsung Galaxy Player they had on display. For my hands it felt big but comfortable. I could easily reach from one side of the screen to the other with one thumb, and it felt great in landscape with both hands. I don't think the specs are exactly the same in terms of dimensions between the GPlayer and the GNote but I think it's pretty close.
Next weekend can't come soon enough...

Luckily the girl I asked for the note display model at bestbuy went into a cabinet and pulled one out but of course the display wasnt even on and was fake. And yes then I went to the galaxy player, not much different. Maybe the note was a little taller,wider but I believe thinner. The weight was identical. The display was nice and thats only and 800x480 resolution.
This may be the longest week ever lol.

i am in the same boat as y'all. i still have my 1st smartphone, the 3GS. the large screen was the 1st thing to draw me to this phone, then the s-pen. then when i heard about being able to customize it in various ways was exciting (not sure if or how this is possible with iP.)
seeing all of the great end-user reviews of this phone on the various forums, Youtube and even Amazon reviews, let's me know we cant be wrong.

I completely agree! I've watched so many YouTube videos since the GNote hit the UK (and beyond) streets and have been waiting for it to find ours ever since. Hell, I've watched countless videos in languages I don't even understand just to see how this thing works for them. From what I've seen and watch in the last few months the GNote is truly amazing and I can't wait to finally get my giddy little hands on it.
The only other concern for you iphone users is the camera/video.
I havent seen the greatest reviews of photos and videos from the note where as the iphone camera is suppose to be one of the "best". I'm so hoping the at&t version note takes good pics and vids.

I didn't make the move to the iPhone 4s which does have a much better camera that the iPhone 4. From what I've seen, the GNote takes much better shots and videos that the iPhone 4. However, I myself don't take a lot of pics and vids with my current phone. The issues I've seen and read in regard to the camera function of the GNote did not play into my decision to make the switch. I've used my iPhone camera from time to time but when I know I'm going to events where I will take a lot of pictures I use my DSLR for that. Honestly, the only time I ever really needed my iPhone for a camera was when I was rear-ended early last year. That was really the only time I was glad to have some form of camera on me.
I am also switching from the IP4 to the GNote. And again, like many users said, none of the android phones really made me interested. I like the skyrocket, but I really want a HD resolution. But then I saw the Note, and how big the screen was, and im sold.

Actually, my 13yo daughter told me she wanted the GPlayer instead of a new iPod when she graduates (if they call it that anymore) from middle school this year. I don't actually remember telling her I'd buy her a new iPod...
The benefits from android over iphone are numerous, two of the ones i find most useful
-folder management (dont have to deal with itunes to manage your music, just treat it like any folders on your computer)
-battery can be switched out, On my captivate I have three batteries and a dock that charges them so I always have one charged and ready which is quite nice.
There are more, especially the custom roms which are really sweet
Well I can tell you that the simple fact that you iPhone users are even on a site like xda tells me two things right away. 1 You guys all have some tech geek in you!! 2 Because of that, you guys will never go back to ios once you guys get the hang of android with rooting and flashing custom Rom's, which is becoming easier practically everyday compared to just a year ago.

tx Havok, that makes me more confident that a noob like me can Root my upcoming Note.
and how many of us iOs guys are sick to death of "sync'ing" our iPhone to iTunes and it takes like 30-40 minutes just to "sync" to iTunes everyday...that is complete garbage and a waste of my time...i ASSume Android isn't like that.

It's not at all.
For people coming from iPhones:
-Create a Google account if you don't already have one
-Go to music.google.com
-Download the music uploader
-Have it upload up to 20,000 songs to the cloud (for free)

I'm due for an upgrade now, and browsing through the phones on the Verizon store (I can't upgrade through any third party due to the fact I'm on a business account) the only decent 4g phone is the rezound.
I'm currently on a 2 year old Xperia Play, 3g, and it's only redeeming factor is the cool slide out gamepad I use to this day. However, it's seen better days and I gotta retire it. So my question is, is the Rezound worth the free price tag? I hear that rooting it is on the easier side, and that I can squeeze battery life/power out of it through this method, but I'm pretty new to phone hardware/software.
It's either that or pay 50-150 bucks for a new phone. I'd honestly rather not pay anything, but knowing that this phone is a full year old at this point might influence that decision.

If you're willing to spend the money, I strongly recommend the GSIII. I got mine for $99 right before Christmas.

The rezound was ahead of its time so font let the one year mark scare you. However, if your gonna have to keep this phone for two more years you'd be better off with a newer peice of hardware, like the sgs3 or the DROID dna. Also the DROID razr m doesn't look to bad but idk about the modding process for moto phones

I've had my Rezound for a while now and I'm always looking at which phones are new. So far, because I don't like huge screens and I like my micro SD card I don't see many new phones for me. I also prefer HTC phones because of the superior cameras. So at this point the Rezound is still a good phone, but it doesn't seem to have 2 years worth of life left.

The DNA feedback has been surprisingly good. Battery life is amazing, and it runs like a beast straight out of the box unrooted.
However it's been out a while and like always, there's something better on the Horizon. The GS3 is a nice phone but I wouldn't burn an upgrade for it if you plan to keep your next phone longer than a year or so.
I can't say much about the rezound that's negative. Most of the comments people made who were unhappy was back before we had official ICS firmware and ice cream sandwich source code.
Since you're considering spending a little money on a newer phone anyway, have you considered buying a cheap rezound from a third party (as in a nice used one off contract) and saving your upgrade for the next batch of new phones?
The other advantage there is the readily available development, and HTC dev unlock and s off, all of which exist already.
A friend of mine had an older phone that was decent, but wanted a new toy. He held his upgrade but bought a mint nexus 7 off of somebody local for an extremely cheap deal. Just throwing out ideas, I know it's not likely that's something you're wanting to do.

I'm probably not the person to ask. I don't buy on contract anymore (not losing my unlimited), and there's really not another phone out that interests me right now anyway. The DNA is the only one that piques my interest at all, but I'm waiting for an AOSP RIL. Samsung is the only other manufacturer that has anything resembling an attractive package to me right now, but I don't like Samsung phone hardware (their screens completely kill the deal for me). All things considered, the Rezound is still the right phone for me right now, but I'd be hard pressed to recommend one on contract.

I can agree with that. I love the brightness and vibrance of my GSIII screen, but it is nowhere near as sharp as my rezound. The battery life is pretty sick though.

The battery life on the Rezound is, in my opinion, very poor. The only way my Rezound is useful to me is with the extended battery, which renders the phone a brick. Also, I'm tired of "plasticky" feeling phones. I haven't held a Droid DNA in my hands, but from what I've read about it, it feels more solid. That being said, I wouldn't get a Droid DNA until there's a strong dev community around it.

That's becoming the industry standard on high end smartphones. Completely sealed except for the SIM slot. No expandable memory, no replaceable battery. I can see good and bad in it. I could easily get by with 8GB if I had to with everything I do being so cloud connected, but having more is nice and I don't like losing the option. The battery being internal is definitely doubled edged. It lets them optimize the battery to better utilize the internal space, which lets them squeeze the most out of the battery they can, but there are days I just need to pop a new one in.

Unfortunately the downfall to non expandable memory and cloud solutions is the tiered data plans that people are being forced into. Streaming any kind of music from say... Google music's cloud storage will burn through your data like you wouldn't believe(I have almost 10 GB of music on my phone). I just... don't like it. That's one reason I opted for my GSIII. The ability to have a 64GB SD is worth being behind slightly in software or hardware.

I just got the rezound today for free coming from an s2 on Sprint. I must say I'm pretty impressed! It's a bit heavy and I'm not rooting until I my 14 day trial is up. The beats headphones is a win win. Keyboard sucks but I'm overall happy for my first day. I'm more concerned about this 2gb of data I'm sharing with my girl than the phone itself. The DNA looks good but the battery and no expandable memory killed it for me

Battery life is the only complaint I have on the rezound. Even a year old its as good or better than most other phones except a few high end phones. My wife got a razr m two months ago and its a very nice phone. Aside from the screen resolution its better than the rezound in almost everyway hardware wise. It's exactly the same hardware as the razr hd but a smaller screen. And it has jb. The ppi is crap on it is the only bad thing. And built in battery. But it does have an sd card. For an inexpensive phone it is extremely nice. But I still love my rezzie.

the GS4 is in production right now and the samsung mobile director said at CES that he needs to crank it out ASAP to stay competitive. Just be patient
I've had my rezound fit amidst a week and got 10 hours battery life today with light use and still have 30%

I am in the same boat as you. I renewed my contract before they stop grandfathering unlimited contracts and got the rezound. At this point I see no reason to upgrade. The phone has GSM, great screen, good camera, 4G(best part ), and it feels good. I would recommend this phone if you are in the market for a free one. If your desires are for something else make sure to research the community behind the phone. The GSIII has a CleanROM for it but unfortunately the developer jumps devices faster than most people can keep up. The rezound just got a relatively stable version of jelly bean that is only going to get better.
I don't own a hp touchpad or have ever used one, what are your experiences in using one?
I'm thinking of buying a second hand one for use as a 720p video player (downscaling videos) and occasional web surfing on CM9 or CM10 (depending on what works better).
Is there anything I should know before buying one? What are the cons of this compared to other tablets?

Unless you particularly want one, or its ridiculously cheap I wouldn't bother.
The WebOS OS is alright but it is now largely unsupported and you aren't likely to get new apps other than via Preware and the community.
Android CM9 on the device is stable but I haven't managed to get a stable enough CM10 build working reliably to keep our long term.
Getting replacement batteries is becoming harder and they are likely to fail any time now! In fact that's the position I'm in now and as I'm outside the US, it's either throw the TP away or take a chance on a non-official battery from China! (eBay is the only place I've found then even then and returns are at customer shopping cost so I'm hesitant.)
There are loads of Android tablets out there that are likely to be better supported in terms of spares and repair and you are likely to get a similar spec one just as cheap. In fact there are some reasonable ones for around $100/€100 if you know what to buy.
To be honest the only thing I miss now I'm using my Galaxy Tab 2 (my 7" travel device) more regularly is the wireless charging dock, which I loved.
You doesn't get a pad at that price with similar power nowadays.
Only HDMI out is missing. For me.
I have two touchpads and I'm quite happy with them. I use them with cm10 and they are working perfectly for me. My main apps are "mobilesheet" (perfect for musicians as replacement for score files), facebook, internet, email, podcasts, music and videos on local and internet. Maybe in the future as a remote control for our Yamaha 01v mixing console.
I agree with above poster. I paid 165 for my tablet and I can say it was best $165 ever paid. I user my touchpad for everything from Netflix, surfing, other video watching app and games. No issues what so ever. You can't get same powerfull device for such low price. I tried to find a similar tablet for around 200 but couldn't get anything. So you have to pay over 300 for 10 inch device that too a old one. All new 10 inch ones are around 400.

HP Touchpad multibooting with CM9 should be fairly usable even now.
Please keep in mind that there are no official CM10 builds yet (and for a long time now...)
When KitKat comes out, I doubt CM11 will come out soon either for it.
I am still on CM9 and is able to keep up with most apps.
Also there are some common faults with Touchpad, I have them too.
Volume Up/Down buttons are flaky. Sometimes need hard presses or dont register properly.
Plastic fascia cracking, near the stereo speakers. This can grow slowly unless fixed (by you, HP/Palm would not care)
It was a good deal to buy during the firesale, but on today's date, I think I would personally go for a Nexus 7
Mainly for the high spec hardware & not wait for some OEM/Dev to release the latest google updates.
I bought an Asus transformer prime (TF200) which has a detachable keyboard which includes an additional battery USB and SD slot had some WiFi problems but I fixed that and gave mine to mum having already given one to my daughter.
Last month when she was down from university she kept "borrowing it" so I asked if she wanted to swap. I now have a TP back running jcsullins experimental with working Bluetooth and couldn't be happier as I get to have fun again trying out different ROMs and muck about with a fast easily rooted unlocked device with the added advantage of Webos which is still good in its own right.
If you do get it make sure to also purchase the Touchstone charger which is brilliant.

TouchPad was a powerful device, when first came out. Hardware still supports newest apps and Android versions with nearly 0 problem. Also it's a quality device. If you find a cheap one (like the fire sale days), you can buy it with no doubt. I bought it nearly 2 years before and still using it; Android Jelly Bean :good:

I have 3 of these for over two years now and all are still in use! My personal daily driver, the kids and a hack/mod.
Its a great tablet, you wont be disappointed...of course you will need Android installed as WebOs, well isnt bad, but really isnt goo either.

In the end I would consider something like a used 2012 Nexus 7 instead but if you love the Touchpad's form factor I would say go for it.
I'm going to have to agree with some of the previous posts in looking for a Nexus 7 instead unless you really need or want a 10 inch tablet. You wont find hardware in that size even remotely close to the TouchPad. Right now I'm still running CM 9(Ill admit not the latest build still) however its starting to get on my nerves a bit, it seems to get bogged down pretty easily. I guess it all comes down to your own preferences and if you can get one that its pretty good shape.
The wireless charger is a must for this. You can use easily as digital picture frame and just pick up off charger to check email, etc. Plus can be picked up for very little money. Buy both together under $150 but wireless charger can be had for $26 shipped on amazon if you get one without.

Loved my hp....couple years ago. My opinion, if you want a larger screen and a nice one at that, 32 gig plus microsd, look at the nook hd +

With extremely light usage for a year, often not used at all, I observed a crack form on the back side next to one of the speakers as others have experienced. I like my TouchPad but if I were shopping for a new device, I would consider different manufacturers and spend more time searching for reviews. I would also recommend a Google Nexus tablet.
Love my Touchpad, incredible for $100. Still decent for the price of course. Who knows, I may not upgrade for a couple of years more!
Nevertheless, if I was shopping now I would consider some of the other devices. There are faster and better support devices out there. If you can live with a smaller size, then you'll score a great deal. If you want something bigger (like the TP), it's probably going to cost a little bit more. If you want something bigger with awesome resolution, like the Nexus 10...then it'll cost even more still.

I was a bit worried, coming from a Nexus 5, that this phone would be laggy and that I wouldn't be satisfied with the screen resolution. Also about getting JUST a 16 GB phone in late 2014 when 32 GB should be the minimum standard.
I slapped a 64gb SD card in - it worked perfectly. Although I almost have it filled and just ordered a 128 GB card.
I actually use a LOT of apps as I have very diverse interests. After loading the apps I use weekly if not daily, I have about 2.5 GB left on internal storage - bottom line is that this phone meets my app needs.
The screen is absolutely beautiful. I have no problems with it - in fact it is fine and I like it.
There is NO lag on anything I have thrown at it.
Battery. Goodness! THERE IS NOTHING ELSE OUT THERE THAT WILL GET THIS TYPE OF USAGE ON A BATTERY CHARGE. I was injured and had to lay up on the couch and I got 3 days of use on a single charge. 3 days! AND still had 23% battery left! And this was heavy usage browsing, email, movies, read a book, etc. Coming from a Nexus 5 when you had to recharge every time you used it, this is a breath of fresh air and makes the phone well worth what I paid for it. Simply amazing! And I had gps, wi-fi, bluetooth all turned on the whole time and good screen brightness.
I also set it up as a wi-fi phone and data phone with Google Hangups and Dialer - works well.
To sum it up, don't hesitate to get this phone if you want a stable, large really nice screen, longest lasting battery, GREAT user experience phone.
edit: Just found out that this phone is no longer supported by the manufacturer. With this in mind my suggestion is, even though it could have been an awesome device, with no support it is a dead end. I think they just kicked themselves out of the USA market.
I too felt the same way about my mate 2 when i got it three weeks ago. Perfect in so many ways, flaunting it to everybody. But now this.
I agree, for a new owner of this device the news that it won't receive upgrades is total rage bait.
On the other hand, what exactly are we missing out on by not getting kit Kat? With a device lasting me an average two years (OK months, who am I kidding?) How drastically will android change from jelly bean in that time? Should I just toss the phone out now? Is that what owners of other admittedly higher specced and priced devices did when their supposedly more reliable manufacturer announced an upgrade dead end (or said nothing at all). Pretty much every phone manufacturer is guilty of this, and we haven't seen the end of it.
I'm going to use the living s#!+ out of this phone, squeeze every last drop of utility out of it. But when I'm done with it I will not be going back to huawei. Nope, nope, nope. Never again.

I just ordered an ascend mate. 2. It just arrived and haven't even opened it... Now, obviously I am pissed that there will be no software update, but I still don't see any other option for 299 dollars! Do you think I should return it? Do you advise a different device?

I returned mine.
It depends what you are using it for. As a phone and apps device it is awesome. But if you want to do the things the newer operating system brings - like Google Wear devices, return it. IMO it is atrocious that a manufacturer would abandon a same year device and I spoke my dissatisfaction by returning it.
I agree that it is shameful that huawei would abandon a same year device... But can you think of any other device for that price? I can return it but for what other phone? And plus, assuming I root the phone and put the cm10.1 on it, what is the difference if they offer a software update?

I've done some research and I'm thinking if you are looking for a phone with the same specs and screen size or slightly better at the same price pretty much your only option is buying something like the HTC one max from Swappa. It's well supported by both by updates and 3rd party development. It will get Lollipop in March according to HTC.
I'm holding out for a Nexus 6.
