[Q] Install CM from already rooted phone on 4.4.4 - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I currently have a Xperia Z2 with this rom installed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/rom-envi-rom-stock-beta-t2811710 It's rooted with Android 4.4.4
Now, I want to try Android 5.0 with Cyanogen Mod. But it have a few questions about that.
1) Do I need to unlock my bootloader for this? I'm assuming I do since I install another non-stock version of Android?
2) Is it simply unlocking my phone, and then copying the zip files and then flash them via recovery? Or am I missing something here?
Many thanks!

[Q] How do I remove Cyanogenmod 11.0 & install this custom ROM

Hi there,
I'm sorry if this has been covered before in another thread but after searching with limited success I have been unable to find a detailed answer, perhaps I'm just a little bit dim & have missed something however.
QUESTION:
After installing CyanogenMod 11.0 [KitKat][4.4.2] by "Gava97" I have found that it is simply not for me. I would very much like to install Destro316's "Proformance" ROM [4.0.4] http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...m-4-0-4-proformance-rom-long-battery-t2547481 as it seems much more stable having been based on a stock Sony ROM.
Do I just flash the new ROM over the previous one? Do I return to a stock setup & redo the rooting process? If so, how?
Being extremely new at this android thing, I'm a little stumped as to how to proceed. All instructions seem too vague for me to confidently follow without bricking something. As I said, it may just be that I'm a missing something.
Phone was originally running [2.3.7] when I bought it, though I soon flashed to stock Sony ICS [4.0.4] Firmware version 6.1.1.B.1.100.
I unlocked my bootloader, rooted & installed Clockwordmod Recovery via this tutorial: www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=V232-3tZddE
I would be very grateful if anyone could fill me in with a step-by-step guide on removing all traces of CyanogenMod & installing this new ROM. Any suggestions for different ROM's are welcome as well, of course.
-----
Bootloader unlocked: Yes
Root: Yes
Clockworkmod Recovery: Yes
Kernel version: Transcendence v 1.1.6
Flashtool Version: 0.9.14.0
PC: Windows 7

I really am sorry if I missed something in my search, I'm very new at this.
I appreciate anyone taking the time to read this & help me out.
Cheers,
Miles

Just follow the instructions on the ROM threat, this is erasing your CM 11, then install your ROM through CWM.
Good luck!
U could Just follow the instructions that included at the ROM u want, that will eras your CM 11, then install the ROM U want through CWM.
Clean Install is required
Woops
Hi everyone!
Sorry for the late update.
So I attempted to follow the instructions outlined in the new rom I was attempting to install and it did nothing. Absolutely nothing. Phone continued to boot into Cyanogenmod 11 kitkat as if nothing had happened.
Now obviously I messed something up, but I needed a properly functioning phone for work asap so I bought an Xperia Z1 Compact just to be done with it. Over the hassle.
However it's been bothering me that I still have a basically pristine Xperia U minus it's software tantrum.
So, how do I go about restoring this phone to the factory Gingerbread and removing Cyanogenmod?
Baby steps please.

I'm by no means an expert.
I follow the guidelines here to flash my Xperia Sola from ICS to a Kitkat rom.

I'm not entirely sure but downgrading should be similar? Fastboot (via flashtool) and flash boot.img. Then in recovery mode, flash the stock Gingerbread rom?

[Q] How to root Xperia Tablet z on 4.4.2 (10.5.A.0.230)

Hello I have an xperia tablet z SGP321 which is currently on android 4.4.2. But it's very buggy atm, and I would like to install a rom on it like omni rom or cm11. But in order to do this I have to root the device, and I would like to know how to root this? Am I able to root it currently or is it not possible atm due to the new software (4.4.2)? I have also tried unlocking the bootloader using the instructions on sony's website and other instructions by other people but they all failed. I know for a fact I did them all correctly and it just didint work. Is this because its not currently possible on android 4.4.2 on this device? Thank you in advance.

If you insist on installing something like cm11 you will have to unlock your bootloader before anything else. It is not clear what you mean when you say they all failed or it just didn't work. Did you follow sony's official guide? And by the way, it's better to make a back up of your ta partition before unlocking in case you want to ever revert it.
Have a look here. That worked for me to root my 4.4.2 device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2759141
You have to do a downgrade to 4.1 before. But thats all in the root instruction.
Thank you for your help, but I found out how to unlock bootloader and install cm 10.2.1 on my tablet already. I followed instructions from a youtube video. It was quite different from the instructions on sonys unlock bootloader guide. I didn't have to downgrade either it worked with 4.4.2 .

[Q] Xperia Z2 4.4.4: Root WITHOUT Unlocked Bootloader.

Is there a way to root my Xperia Z2 (4.4.4) without unlock its bootloader?
Or else better, is there a way to back-up the bootloader before the unlock?
I ask because I want to root it without set a custom Rom.
Thanks in advance.
There is. You've got to downgrade to for example 4.4.2, root your phone, create a pre-rooted version of 4.4.4 and then flash that. There is a much more detailed guide around here, so I recommend that you check that out
To back up your ta partition you will need root first.
In stead of creating a rooted rom you can also find some prerooted here in the development forum.
-Use flashtool to downgrade to 4.4.2
-Root and install recovery with one of the available root methods (towelroot for example)
-Use recovery to flash a rooted 4.4.4 zip, recovery (again) and SU (again)
-Reboot
-Test network connection, if 4g is not working, use flashtool to flash a local 4.4.4 baseband
That's all.
I heard that for rooting it's required to have unlocked bootloader. Is that true?
(I have seen the root guide in forum, but I don't think that it mentions the bootloader)
My problem is that I want to upgrade the phone without errors (when sony has updates). I say that because a friend of mine has a rooted Nexus 5 with unlocked bootloader and he can't install the last update. It gives him a bootloop and returns to the previous. This is something I don't want.
Thanks in advance.
Unlucking is not needed.
Official updates should work if you're on a 100% stock rom, but updates are generally available as flashable rooted zip, here in the forums, long before you get an official update available from Sony.
So that should be no problem.
Biggest issue here that people dont search howto root on locked bl, that is possible, search and read then you will have it, example like the installations steps of a modded stock rom

SGP561 Custom ROM Question

So I installed this recovery successfully (woohoo!) Now the question is, what can I do with it? Obviously rooted and whatnot of course.
I also hear that there is a new firmware upgrade for this tablet specifically, and I was wondering how I could apply that seeing as the system update in my tablet doesn't work... (thanks Verizon?) but you know, just trying to get to some newer firmware.
Thanks in advance!
Here's the recovery that I'm talking about:

[Q] Installing a custom rom

Hi,
I just want to install a custom rom for my z2 but i'm having a little bit of trouble figuring out how to install it.
I was interested in installing the resurrection remix rom found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/development/rom-resurrection-remix-t3028260
I'm currently on the official 5.0.2 version of android. I upgraded from 4.4.4 to 5.0.2 through Xperiafirm.
As far as I understand you need to have both root, an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery to install a custom rom. NOTE: I have met none of these requirements.
My problem is I cant find a way to root my z2 on 5.0.2 or unlock the bootloader for that matter.
From what I gather most people upgraded from 4.4.2/4.4.4 using a rooted z2 to a 5.0.2 pre-rooted rom to keep there root permissions.
Does this mean I'll have to downgrade back to 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 and then do one of the easy root processes then flash the custom rom?
Or is there an easy way to root and unlock my bootloader on my z2 on 5.0.2 so I can flash the custom rom?
Thanks in advance for the help guys.

Since you haven't rooted Lollipop theres no easy root method.
1. Use flashtool and flash any 4.4.2 (17.1.2.A.0.314) from here
2. Then root and install recovery in one step using this guide :
+Make sure you have USB debugging turned ON and plug the phone to your computer.
+Download Z2-lockeddualrecovery[VERSION]-BETA.installer.zip from http://nut.xperia-files.com/?+Download=qh1p4ekeofo9krfbu6maic2np5&randomizer=_mc6cojzeq
+Unpack at C: or somewhere you will remember!
+Navigate to the resulting directory and look for install.bat, double click it to run;
+Select "Installation on Unrooted rom....." option
+Your phone WILL reboot when installation has completed and it will go into the default recovery for the first boot.
+Reboot to system from recovery to allow the installer to clean up after installation (it is safe to skip this step).
3. Once you have recovery installed you will hve to unlock the bootloader. Since unlocking the boot loader will remove your DRM keys you have to back them up first. Use this guide to backup DRM keys and then unlock the bootloader using this (read the whole forum carefully).
4. Since you have unloacked the boot loader you an proceed to flash and rom according to the instructions through the recovery.
