[Q] Playstation app and remote play, no drm keys - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so as im sure everybody knows, the playstation app and remote play don't work without drm keys.
I installed CM12 yesterday, purely on the grounds that someone said they had remote play working on z3 with no drm keys on CM12, i wasn't holding out much hope but it actually worked, i lost my drm keys way back in april, and currently on CM12 my playstation app works pefectly and remote play kind of works (audio's iffy and keeps disconnecting). While this is great, im not too keen on the CM12 rom overall.
Now im wondering if it's possible to grab the related files from CM12 and install them on a stock rom???
Im not a dev or anything so i dont know if it's possible or even what files we'd need, however while manually installing the remote play port i noticed in system/framework there is a com.google.widevine.software.drm.jar and it also has an xml in (i think) etc/permissions. Seeing how widevine is something to do with drm keys and i've nevere noticed anything named widevine in any folders on my z2 prior to flashing CM12 im wondering if this is what's making remote play and playstation app work, and if/how i can get it onto a stock rom?
Any idea's??? Also im assuming there would be more files needed that just the .jar and .xml, but i have no idea what

Can't play DRM .wmv files with custom ROMs

So I have a somewhat large investment in LEGAL music I've downloaded from sprint over the past year or two. Its over $200 worth (song here and there ads up quick).
So I've never had a problem beforehand even when switching from my instinct to the TP. However I just flashed Energy ROM about a week ago (and LOVING IT!!!) however one thing I've noticed is NONE of my music will play.
I've put a few of the sprint OEM apps back onto the phone (NAV, Picture Mail) but obviously nothing to do with sprint music.
When trying to play the music on Manilla's player nothing happens. The album art shows up but no music. When trying to play in windows media player I get an error that says "A digital rights management (DRM) error has occured"
I'm assuming this has somethign to do with the ROM not being "sprint approved" or something seeing as how it worked on the factory ROM.
Any solution to this?
I've tried numerous other players (Nitrogen, IBM, Pocket Music) but they all come up with the same error.
What can I do?
Anybody have any clues? Short of removing the DRM (which I have yet to find a program not infested with viruses or spyware) is there a way to just have it check the sprint servers?

I have been experiencing this for 4 months. In all of my research I have found that the device certificate for DRM is not in 6.5 ROMS or it is not cooked in using the platform rebuilder kitchens everyone is using. I have talked to a many a chef and it seems it is a NO GO for DRM music.
Try Tunebite as it's your only option for songs you've purchased and can't listen to.
Due to incompatibilities with WM6.5, and even some of the newer WM6.1 builds, most chefs leave out the LockStreamDRM package from their ROMs. Without those files and registry entries, DRM playback is not possible.
this is what i could find, good luck. i believe its a Lockstream DRM issue as NATF mentioned.

btw the new energy rom 8/11 has this built in. just reflash potnah

Can you confirm that Energy's 8/11 ROM allows the syncing of DRM music files? i.e. Napster?
Well I'm now running the 8/11 build of the latest Energy ROM and it does not play the music.
sorry guys this was posted after i did...
August 11th 2009:
Afternoon version:
* Lockstream DRM taken out, causing problems with Sounds and Ringtones
* Opera changed to a newer version and cooked in
* TCPMP, a bunch of ringtones and some extra DLL's taken out to save space
* WorldCard Mobile removed from all ROMs (except Raphael)
* Completely reworked taskbar high resolution data icons by cmylxgo
Morning version:
* Fixed date picker control in portrait
* Updated to AudioManager 1.7 (Manila's Music Tab)
* Cooked in "working" landscape people tab fixes
* Added LockstreamDRM to the ROM for DRMed people
* Slight change to the initial flash screen
* New default black all backgrounds image in Manila
* Updated to Tachi Album 3.0 1914 Sys wheel enabled and smoother operation
* Added Sibor's patch to the SMS tab for better fit and finish in both potrait and landscape modes
Sorry guys.. I tried All lockstream DRM packages are old now as it seems HTC moved to "DiscretixDRM" in 6.5 builds. Unfortunately, that packages still doesnt allow DRM music to play, so I guess you guys are SOL on this one
NRGZ28 its okay we still wub you
Playing Napster Files
I have napster as well, but the ROM I am using plays my DRM files, but I have to jump through some hoops to get it to. I cant just simply copy over the MP3 files (because that would be way faster and way eaisier) so this is my plan of attack:
Download a tune from Napster to my HDD
Set up WMP to sync all music from my computer to my Storage card
This way all I do is download a tune from Napster and then plug in my Phone and voila! it syncs everything.
Unfortunatly, when flashing to a new rom (even just restoring) it blows away whatever local database that keeps track of the DRM, so if I try to play songs after that, it just sits at the track and does nothing. WMP will complain it does not have a license nor will it be able to aquire one if I try.
My solution is to blow away my music collection on my phone and retransfer through windows media player (which takes the better part of a day). The reason this takes so long is because Activsync likes to crap out randomly, so I have to restart the transfer.
Just my thoughts on the whole Napster/DRM....any comments?
Ah, its ok. I just wish I could find a damn program online to strip the DRM away. Everything so far appears to be a royal PITA.
What pisses me off is the whole DRM thing in general. I paid for that music, who are they to tell me what I can and can't do with it.
THIS is why I and others download music illegally. It WORKS!
I still love the ROM NRG... I threw you a donation today.

"They" are the RIAA. And they act as they do because starving artists cannot afford their solid gold Humvee.

Anyone know what would cause this?

I get this everytime i try to play a song. Clicking on the notification does nothing. The music plays fine but i dont know what i should do about these.
what rom are you on. Some devs take out DRM libraries used to authorize songs...did you actually buy those songs or did you download them from somewhere?
What ROM are you using? Check to see if the ROM maker removed DRM framework (some have).
das bamf(version from rom manager) i think i read somewhere that the drm licenses were taken out
is there a way to avoid them popping up each time i access the music player?

[Q] Music player no longer downloads album art...

Hi guys... I've searched everywhere for a solution to this but cant find one. Got my new Xperia S yesterday everything worked fine... loved the new feature where you can download album art using the stock Sony music player.
I then unlocked the bootloader and rooted - that worked fine too, no issues. However since doing that, the stock music player just says 'unknown error. could not download' when I try and download ANY art for any track (the ID tag info is correct btw). So i thought MAYBE its to do with the process I did, so I relocked the bootloader and reinstalled the 67 firmware which again works fine no issues, however the music player is still saying the same thing... 'unknown error. could not download'.
If I use poweramp I can download album art fine no issues its purely the stock Sony music player.
I'm a little stumped now as I'm fairly good with all this stuff but not having that ability is going to annoy me Anyone got any ideas how to sort it or what the problem is....? Thanks
Noticed the same issue.
I also unlocked bootloader and root. Might be the problem indeed. Therefore it was working just fine.
There must be loads of people who have unlocked the bootloader and rooted their Xperia S but they are obviously not getting this issue with the album art not working as I can't see any previous posts about it.... unless they haven't checked if their works after??
Either that or:
1. Didn't spot the download Album Art feature
2. Did but didn't need to as MP3's already featured Album Art
As the warnings say, when you unlock the bootloader you also lose your DRM Keys, even relocking won't get them back, so features such as TrackID (and it appears album art) won't work anymore.
I'm also assumpting that you can't stream or download any DRM protected content, not sure if Sky Go or NetFlix would be affected.
I always use art grabber on PC before I put music files into my phone. Maybe it is due to loosing DRM keys when you unlocked bootloader?
I use Mp3Tag along with MusicBraiz Picard, best 2 I found, when I was updating my 3000 tracks.

Yes fair enough the warnings were there, but i'd assumed the warnings related to digital rights management (ie DRM content streaming such as Sky Go which I never use anyway...) all I am trying to do here is download album cover art so I dont understand how unlocking the bootloader/rooting has affected that. The error appears like the path to get the album art details has been wiped during the process and it just needs reinputting (or something to that effect). Bearing in mind the other music players that can download album art still work, its purely the stock music player. I really didnt realise DRM had anything to do with album art downloading
I would neither, to be honest, but at the moment looks like it.
Same problem here...
I downloaded image from google and made custom cover art
Just for info, Track ID works fine after unlocking bootloader/rooting as does Sky Go and Netflix....its just the damn album art!

I tried to do the same, but from 5 albs only got cover assigned.
My downloaded pictures has 220x220 and file is called "cover.jpg"
what do I do wrong??
Well... You can fix it on unlocked BL. In ThalinaC's Walkman port there are some drm files, and if you clean SemcMetadataCleanup's aka Download Music data and install the one from Xperia T, the feature should work.
Mine has stopped DLing art work and my BL is locked.

[REQ] Xperia Tablet Z apps

I would like to have some Sony apps on my TF300T, and so i found some ported stuff: Walkman, Gallery, Video, and some other. Not everything works fine (there are some bugs). So, i'm trying to port apps from Xperia Tablet Z (some work out of the box, like Calculator).
This i'd like to port:
Media Apps:
Walkman
Album
Videos
Dlna
Organizer apps:
Alarm&Clock
Contacts
Email
Calendar
Notes
Xperia Home launcher works, and widgets too, but there are some bugs (FC when selecting walkman widget, FC if you try to select theme).
That's about it.
So if someone has experience with this, and willing to help, by doing some work or giving instructins, please help.
I took the xperia tablet z rom from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2323654
And i'm currently running Energy non themed rom.
+1. I would love to see this on our tablet too. There was a guy working on a Xperia ROM for our tablet but it never came out. I hope some developer can help us

You might find this link interesting. There is a link for small sony apps as well, I'm not sure which apps are included. Maybe the op could give you some insight.

Thanks for reply, i already tried this rom. But i had problems with wifi, and only small apps have been ported (i think). So, no go. We already have good base rom on my device, just need to port speceific apps. Opposite of other proprietary interfaces like touchwiz ot sense, i think that porting sony stuff only comes down to finding all dependencies of a specific app (no coding or smali editing). Is there any tool which can show what are the dependencies of some apk?

I had hoped the op of that thread could give you some insight.
I tried yesterday to port a weather widget from another rom without success. Even watching logs the entire time provided nothing useful. I have also failed to port a keyboard and browser successfully. I deoxed a complete rom in my most recent failed attempt. Everything ran fine on the donor unit but not where I wished to use them.
I'm sure there is such a tool. I'll do some searching and reply if I find anything useful.
Hey do you have finished the port?

No need for him to do this. You can get them from here. Though these are not from the tablet they work fine on the tf300t, I have them on mine with Chromi X:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2059203
The movies app did not work from this so I installed a xperia Z movie app and it works perfectly...it's great for streaming from my home network...
The Movies app does not play MKV files with AC3 audio and I haven't got the visualizer app to work on the Walkman player either yet...
I have used the old Walkman logo rather than the circular one as that's the one I use on my old Sony phone (I think it looks better).
If I get a chance I will upload the files and some instructions on how to install them... (sorry I help look after an autistic toddler and I don't get much of a chance to jump on here)...

[Q] Is Infrared device workingon CM11 ?

Hi
does anyone knows if the Z2 Tablet IR emitter is working or how to make it work?
Currently I wasn't able to find any IR App which is working on CM11.
Also I couldn't see any IR device in /dev...
I always thought IR is (quite) easy on linux and CM seems to support IR at all, so whats wrong?
Best,
mm

It works Today I used the "Remote Control" app which comes stock. It was able to control my Hitachi HDTV and even my WD TV Live streaming media player. It has to be pointed at the devices of course, but it works. (My model # is SGP561)
I don't know if any other apps can use it though. Haven't really playeed around with it much.

Hmmm are you sure? My question was about IR on Cyanogenmod 11. I guess you are on stock ROM, right?
On stock ROM the Sony App is unbeatable in fact, but unfortunately it does not work on any customrom.

Oh, I see. I think I missed that. So are you missing the APK file, or are you missing the folder?
If it's the APK file: is there any way to extract a stock rom as an APK file? If so, I wouldn't mind extracting a copy for you so you can see if it works, but I only know how to extract APK files from the Play Store.
Otherwise, what if you tried just copying the missing folder over from a stock ROM?
Or maybe it's something that was lost with the DRM keys?
Oh, it's not the problem of an missing apk. I've backups of them, of course, but they would not work on custom roms. Since I like the freedom of CM more than the functionally of the stock Z2 Rom I use CM on all of my devices. But I'm always in hope that someone has a hint or even a solution on this issue of the Z2 tablet Android and CM has an IR API so it's a missing driver and Sony just released the kernel sources of the Zz2 so there is hope that someone has an idea...
Yeah, the only reason I'm not going for a custom rom is because the loss of DRM keys result in the loss of core functionality. I really hope that someone manages to figure out how to take all of those official apps and put them into a custom firmware where the DRM keys don't matter anymore.
Any updates on this? I have the exact same issue, a Z2 tablet with CM11 and I can't find any apps to work with the IR
Well, the z2 is quite old right now. I don't even think about it, sorry. Take an recent Sony ROM, root it and bebhappy with what you have... Beleive me, after some years being very disappointed with a WinCE phone from Sony I bought the Z2. It is quite good but next time I'll buy a Nexus.
