So I've rooted my wifes old nook tablet(bntv250), and it works great, if a bit slow(cm10-20121108-unofficial-acclaim) and I want to transfer some e-books to the internal storage. I can navigate to the location I want them in on the device from the device, but Windows only sees a .99gb internal storage that is empty. I can send some item using the send to kindle email, but want to know how to move items from an external sd card to the internal memory. The file manager is not intuitive in this respect(not like the one on my Samsung phone, which is not rooted). I've tried searching and can't find the info I need. The files I want to move are to big to use send to kindle email. Other than this one issue, I am really liking this thing now that it is rooted. Wish I had done it 2 years ago... TIA
You should be able to use a file manager app to copy/move content from SD card to internal memory. Which file manager are you using? FWIW, I use ES File Explorer and it works great -- with its "Root Explorer" option enabled you can access any folder/file.
Trying to use the one that came in the ROM, but I see no way of moving the files around. I had to get root access just to find the folder I wanted to put files into. And why can't windows see the internal memory?

The internal storage and the user-media are on two different partitions, standard Windows can access only one partition of a removable drive, in this case it's the user-media (FAT32) partition.

So I got my 32 GB card today. I plugged in my phone copied my external sd stuff to a new folder, switched cards then copied the folder contents on to the new card. I also transferred some pictures from the internal memory to the new card. Now many of my apps claim to be not installed any more. I never did use anything like apps2sd or anything like that. I figured it would work for me to keep internal for apps and external for media.
Thoughts, ideas?

let me guess, you copied the files and folders with windows explorer? if so then you missed the hidden folders that start with a dot (.) which holds the apps that are/were installed to sd..
If u still got the old card and havent formatted it yet you can still copy them, just enable "show hidden files" in windows explorer (google it) and copy them.

Mac OSX. Still don't remember installing any apps to sd, unless the apps themselves did it. I don't have any directories, etc that I copied or moved that pertains to the apps

So I put the old card back and the apps are working, so that is good news. Next step is I am creating a disk image from the old card (disk utility ftw) and I will use that to restore on to the new one, making it a carbon copy.
Hopefully this works

is there a way to utilize internal storage that's allocated for bn content after you get root?

It is my understanding that root and gapps hack places gapps in system folder and grants it access to installing apps and app related data, books, music, etc on the partition 15GB section. However, the usb downloaded content goes to the 1GB partition.
Once you are rooted you can store all the files you want on /data (there is around 11-12GB free by default). App installs also go to /data. The problem is that when you connect the Nook to your PC it only mounts /mnt/media and /sdcard. You would need to copy your files temporarily to to an SD card and then move them to /data (from the Nook) for long term storage.
The other issue would be media apps not scanning and seeing the files on /data. Some apps let you add additional search paths, so /data would be better suited for large movies, PDFs, and other files that you would normally launch with a file manager.
We are working to get the partitions swapped, but without the ability to write custom boot images we might be stuck (for now).
I have the 1gb limit for Nook Tablet and solved it as follows with this workaround:

Your nook tablet must be rooted to even see the additional storage and you must access it
through a file explorer like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer - it cannot be accessed via
a PC running Windows or linux. Make sure you go into settings of ES File Explorer and tick
Root Explorer and Mount File System.
I store my media (videos, mp3's, etc. )
in the /data/media directory
and - I started with about 12Gb free.
YOU MUST set the directory to be R/W using ES File Explorer and changed the permissions to
allow "others" full read, write and execute (again using ES File Explorer).
I copy files to my sdcard that I want to store in /data/media directory, and then copy to
/data/media area where I want them to be stored. After copy and test, then delete from
sdcard.
I was then able to access the files in /data/media with ES File Explorer.
I use ES File Explorer to locate mp3 file for single play of music or use Meridian to play
albums.
I use ES File Explorer to locate avi file, touch file name and pop up suggests MoboPlayer.
Enjoy your Nook Tablet (rooted).

I'm using ES File Explorer on the NT to link to my PC via WiFi and copying over large media files to /data. Had a few problems with this at first, but a bit of Google research fixed it up.

If you're PC and your Nook Tablet are both connected to the same router, then it should not affect any bandwidth caps you may have. No data is leaving the house.

I have been using Android Commander for Windows to see the Nook Tablet's file system. I am new to this software but I was able to download .apks to my pc then install to device, within Android Commander. I am also able to read, write, change Permissions, copy files, push files, reboot device, and more all from my PC. there might be better software, but this was free software and from a Dev from the XDA community. hope this helps somebody else, or start a conversation on alternatives or if their is better, but for now this is my choice. Thanks to PanPiotr for this Software.
I have a HTC Flyer and have nearly filled up the sdcard memory and would like to use the sdcard2 memory.
The flyer has 16 GB of memory. The 16G of memory is partitioned into 3.9 GB internal partition and a 8.7 GB external partition (sdcard). I also have a 32 GB of exteranal removeable memory (sdcard2). The sdcard is nearly full and the sdcard2 is empty. How do I make use of the sdcard2?
For example I would like to move google play music files from sdcard to sdcard2.
Is there an app that will move the music files? Will the google play music app find the music files on the sdcard2 or is there something I have to do to force the use of the sdcard2?
I can mount the flyer on my PC and find the 2 sdcards and I can move the files from card to card. I'm just not sure if it's that simple and what rules are required as far as paths, etc are required on the sdcard2.
It seems like a simple problem that should have a well documented answer, but I haven't found any information in google searches?
An additional comment. Does the removable 32 GB card need some type of special formatting. I believe the card was format when I purchased it. Last night I erased it in the Flyer. I couldn't find an option to format it in Flyer so I formatted in my PC.

Not sure about the new Google Play app but the older one had no way to choose sdcard2 to store/use files. If they have not built this feature into the app yet than you may have to use a workaround such as this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262
As for just your standard media files (music, videos, pictures) you would like to open via default apps on your tablet, just drag and drop from internal to external via USB or file manager. Doesn't really matter where you put them as long as you can find them. Just create a directory structure that makes sense to you.

If you just use the standard Fat32 format on the PC the card should work just fine.
Thanks for the reply.
I have another question on moving data. The Flyer has an app "locations". It stores all of the points of interest and is about 3 or 4 GB. The points of interest are located at sdcard/.data/navigator/Data/Maps/... Can I just usb drag them to sdcard2/.data/navigator/Data/Maps/... and will the locations/navgator app find the data? I don't understand how the app knows where to look for it's data and use it. Does it just know to look on both sdcards?
Sort of sucks how google messed up the mp3 files in google play music so other music player apps can't find and use them.
I tried moving the locations files it and it said the files were out of date or missing so I guess that didn't work.
My Flyer is box stock. I never took any updates because I was afraid of not being able to root if I took an update (I got burned on the EVO 4G Gingerbread update).
What is the best method to root the Flyer? Is there a ROM that will let me run apps and store there data on the removable SD card? Are you using a custom ROM and do you have a recommended ROM?

Yep. Can't move that data. The app won't find it unless you can try the link I sent you for that program that re-routes the paths but you will need root to use it.

Keeping data for apps on sdcard2 is going to cause you nothing but trouble. If that card is unmounted you may end up having to re-install all those apps for them to work. As far as I know there is not a rom that will allow this to happen. Only thing I can suggest is to get all the media files you can onto your ext. sdcard to free up some space or start using a cloud service.
If you want to root your Flyer use this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194709 Make sure you have a qualifying hboot version otherwise you have to do some extra prep work first.
I have the same problem. I'm using a 64gb card and the tablet will not store anything on it. Mine is labeled sd-ext. It act like it needs a2sd installed to work. But that's not possible with out root.
Lame
I mostly use my SD2 card for movies. I'm not really seeing anything that uses it other than the camera, I think (there's a DCIM folder there).
I know on most other (2-sd card) android devices, you can actually switch which sd card is 1 and which is 2 by editing the vold on the device. I am not sure if this works on the flyer, and have no real reason to try this myself, but if some brave soul is willing to test it out, I can provide instructions.
PS: if anyone has already tried this, and found it lacking, please let us know before I suggest that someone do something stupid
Sorry, Have been away for a while. I would be interested in the instructions to edit the vold. Could you send me a link to instructions or the instructions. Has anyone else tried the vold change?
Thanks for the reply.
Hi, I'm a total noob to Android phones, I admit it. I just got my first smartphone, and it's an old one - an HTC Aria. Thanks to a lot of info here in XDA-developers, I got it rooted with clockwork mod and am using the Cyanogen ROM with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).
Well, it's such an old phone, I see that it only has ~185 mb internal storage. I added an 8GB SD card. Even though I move my apps to external storage, I can see that the data didn't get moved and is still quickly eating up all the phone's internal storage. I'm trying to use Madmack's "FolderMount" but am having trouble figuring it out. I think it might be an understanding of Android file/folder structure (I have very little). I'm considering buying the "pro" version (if it works for me), just so I can move the whole data folder at once and free up my internal memory again.
Here's my efforts at testing to see if it works. I'm trying to move the data from the "Plague, Inc." game to the external card (the app is already on the external card). So, when I choose source, it automatically starts me in the /mnt/sdcard/ but doesn't allow me to go "up" to any further root folders of that. So I found in the "Android" folder the "data" folder. I tried to FolderMount that but it gave me the error about the non-Pro version. So I tried the "com.miniclip.plagueinc" folder (knowing that it's currently using 15MB of data) and then using an app called SDCardManager (which I understand is supposed to make it easier for me to access my SD Card, like Windows Explorer or something), I made a folder with this path "/mnt/sdcard/foldermount" I think it should be the right path because it's also where my "android.tether" folder is that I know I created myself.
Anyway, when I pair those two folders in FolderMount, it copies stuff over, and the pin looks green, but it shows my internal memory hasn't changed, still almost entirely full. So what do I do to clear it up? I think my problem is in my understanding of the Android's file structure. I think on "source", I should be able to access some folder before "/mnt/sdcard", but I can't get there. Please give this noob help from anyone who can! Thanks!
Can anyone help me with this? Particularly the developer, madmack? I really need to find a way to move the app data to the external memory so I can clear up space. Even if someone could help me understand the file structure better, that'd be helpful. Thanks!
So, I'm not a noob, been rooting and running custom since the Nexus 1. I've searched and tried every fix, but no joy! I'm running doom's latest kernel and Monx latest rom. I've manual changed the proper files, and I've used apps like Fix SD and others and still can't write to my external SD card. Obviously, I'm rooted, so what am I doing wrong? I've seriously tried everything! Even the Music to SD module for exposed acts like it works, but when I try to use Play Music, it says "no space available". Even the Z2 built in "Transfer to SD" facility fails.
Please help!

Try this:
1. Using a root-enabled file manager like root explorer, navigate to /system/etc/permissions
2. Edit platform.xml file and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
3. Add this group definition: <group gid="media_rw" />
4. Save changes.
5. Restart.
:good:
if the above method doesent work for you
you can try using a xposed module called handle external storage, it automaticly alows use of your External SDcard by default
*(you need root , xposed installer and the modle its self (it can be found from within the xposed installer under downloads)
Tried both these methods. To be fair, I tried them both again, just to make sure. As far as I know, all methods modify platform.xml, but no matter what I do, I can't write to the sdcard1 folder. My usual test is using Root Explorer to try and create a folder on Sdcard1. Always fails. Honestly, the ROM I'm using should have been enough, as it comes with write to external SD already enabled via the platform.xml tweak already. I even did a full factory reset yesterday to test. Still no joy.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks,
-Hans

Still not working
Many thanks to the gents who replied already. Unfortunately, none of the posted solutions are working. I can't find any information in the forums or elsewhere online that points to this. Everywhere I look, it says that the modification to platform.xml is THE answer. However, I've made those modifications nine ways to sunday and I still can't do anything with my external SD card. Can't create a file or folder using Root Explorer or E Strongs. Can't write backups using TiBu is the BU folder is on external SD, etc. Can't set then succesfulyl use the save location for camera or music apps as external SD. Very frustrating.
Has anyone seen or heard of this happening?

i'm having the same problem but my phone is not rooted, i usually us ES File Explorer to do my file browsing and management but for some reason i can't delete, create or rename files or folders on the external SD card.
i did a clean format with my SDXC card in the phone when i first started the device and that's usually exFat. and thats when i started to notice the problem,... i couldn't delete or create files or folders from the ES File Explorer app,.... so i did a clean install again with the ES File Explorer and the problem is still there,.... also when taking picture and deleting the unwanted pictures that i took.... i would still see the pictures i deleted in the picture gallery / album....
im still confused on whats going on,.... last night i reformatted my SDXC card to FAT32,... but the problem is still there,...
i tried using the File Commander app that came pre-installed with the device...... for some reason i can rename, delete and even create files and folders.... this is the only app that let's me do all those things when it comes to the external SD card.
other apps such as QuickPic won't allow me to delete, rename or whatever i have to do my pictures on the external SD card

Yeah. That's expected behavior on a non-rooted KK phone. My problem is that I'm rooted and I can't get anything to write to external. Total Commander, Root Explorer, ES File Explorer, Camera apps, etc. Nothing will write to External SD no matter how many times I make the required mods to the platform.xml file. It is driving me nuts.
