[Q] Soft bricked my hp 8 g2 1411 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
I Soft bricked my hp 8 g2 1411.
I was trying to install a recovery rom so I could install a lollipop rom.
I'm now stuck at the HP powered by Android screen. See attached.
I can't get to the recovery screen as its probably gone.
I also have the complete original ROM downloaded from HP with a folder with recovery on it...
I don't know how to get to fast mode or download mode.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Steve.

I Hope This Could Be Of Any Help
We have exactly the same device and I had exactly the same problem for like 2 weeks and I was able to fix it fortunately. So I would like to help you if in case you still needed one. I created a tinyurl of the website you got to download the stock firmware from and not the one from HP website. Then save it on the root folder of your external sd card with update.zip as the file name. Now with your tablet off simultaneously press power + volume up + volume down and once you see the HP logo release them all and you'll once again see HP logo and then the stock recovery of your tablet. Use the volume keys to navigate to "apply update via sd card" then choose the "update.zip" you downloaded. It's gonna install for about 3-5 minutes and you're good to go.
I'll pm you the link for I am not allowed to write one yet!
Cheers!

I have the same device and the same problem. However when I push the power+ volume up + volume down buttons at the same time and release when I see the HP logo, all I aver get is then HP logo Powered by Android. It never gets to the recovery screen.
Thanks Ted

Please share the link. Recently my tablet bootloop for no reason.

I had the same problem with mine and found no solution to fix it other than flash the firmware .img with a micro sdcard created with phoenix card. Sadly the firmware .img is not available from HP ...
Now 3 weeks later I compiled a custom firmware for the HP 8 G2 1411 and got everything working in Android and most of it working in TWRP (custom recovery environment)! I am in the final stage of tweaking TWRP and I should be done with it in the next days.
The release will contain:
Custom Android KitKat 4.4.2 for HP 8 G2 1411
(without HP bloatware)
Google Now default launcher
Custom recovery TWRP 2.7.01
Possible to flash superSu .zip to gain root
Flashable sdcard (need to be burn with PhoenixCard)
I can't post link in the forum right now, send me a PM if you need it!
This will fix a softbricked tablet but you will loose all your data.

It' done! How to fix a softbrick on the HP 8 G2 1411:
-Download and install PhoenixCard 3.1.0
http://www.mediafire.com/file/rlccciim76vsqnv/PhoenixCard_V3.1.0.rar
Download my custom ROM from:
https://mega.nz/#!YvRlXY5S!6Sg8r-DzMoV5Y1FUP1loCN7PbN7dwbOoPSMQXglcljI
-Prepare a micro-sd card with PhoenixCard
-Turn off tablet
-Remove top cover (where the usb port is) and put sdcard in
-Turn on tablet (be sure you have enough battery, the process takes around 3min)
-Wait until the green bar is filled, it should say Card OK on top when it's done and the tablet will turn off
-Remove sdcard (put back the compartment cover if you want)
-Turn the tablet back on again
-wait.... and...
-That's it, it should boot into Android KitKat!
If you want to boot to Recovery use adb (check google for instruction on how to install) or use a "custom power menu app"
*Don't boot to fastboot or to bootloader, this is not supported by this tablet, it will softbrick the tablet and you will have to start the process again
Features:
-Custom Android KitKat 4.4.2 for HP 8 G2 1411
(without HP bloatware)
With Google Now default launcher
-Custom recovery TWRP 2.7.01
(Possible to flash superSu.zip from recovery to gain root)
*Install from sdcard (need to be burn with PhoenixCard)
Known issues:
TWRP can't mount data partition or external sdcard
Volume button wont work during boot (they work fine once Android is loaded)
Once in a while the might wifi stop working, a reboot will fix it (very rare)
Enjoy!

I still using this tablet. I using ur rom as well. It's good. But I just realise it doesn't come with swap ram.

I did what I was able to do with my limited knowledge, at least I was able to salvage the device! I'm far from being a programmer and I think it's sad that no one tried to port a custom ROM for this device...

[Q] gtab rooting 101

I'm new to Android, my first step was to research hardware and functionality. The choice, you guest it, gtab!
Now of to the good stuff. I ultimately want to root and update my Rom to vegan5.1. So far I have downloaded cwv08, upload downgrade and vegan. The problem is that when I try to restart using power + volume +, I do see the open box screen but then it just loads tnt and resumes boot. There has to be a step I must be missing here. Like I said I'm new to grab and android. Where do I start?
To my understanding, power with volume + without cwm install will run the command file in recovery folder. Preharps u are missing the file, preharps u are not naming the file correctly; too little details provided to tell..
try reading : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
same box with green arrow
I too have installed clockwork. Downgrade the bootloader then try to reboot into clockwork using the + and power. The tab acts like it is going to enter recovery says "Detect recover key press
Booting to recovery image"
Then it goes to that screen with he box with a green down arrow coming out of it and a progress bar. When it finishes it reboots. Still at stock rom, no joy at all.
A couple things I have tried. Copying a new update.zip to the root of the internal memory and the sd card, reboot with and without the sdcard inserted, rebooting normal then trying to get reboot recovery with + and power, copying the cwm update and recovery folder into root. No joy each time it it is the update box. I have not tried holding the recovery keys down in the dark while chanting xda but I think I missed my chance for that working last Friday.... when is the next Friday the 13th?
Thanks for any help or insight anyone can give us.
Bednab,I could not have explained any better. This is exactly what happens with mine. Today I encountered another challenge. My gtab will not connect to my-fy on open iphone. I have to figure this out before my road trip next month.
and there was much rejoicing
I kept at this and finally found a solution. A post pointed me to the answer on androidforums about the command file getting deleted out of the recovery folder after a successful update. I opened the recovery folter on the g tab and it was empty so I opened the one from cwm and edited it to this:
--update_package=SDCARD2:/update.zip
This way it points to my external card where I had a few custom roms. Copied it to the recovery folder in the root of the gtab, reboot into recovery mode and much joy!

[Q] Prime won't boot (stuck in boot process)

Hi there
My prime is stuck in boot, it will show the boot screen looping forever.
I have tried the following things:
- Resetting (button next to microSD)
- Holding volume up and power button to switch it off and back on
- Holding the power button for 15 - 30 - 60 secs
- Holding volume down + power button to get in the recovery menu
- Selected up for recovery mode, shows the android laying on its back, stops loading and reboots
- Selected down both for cold start and resetting user data.
This all failed. Anyone got an option or a solution?
Greets
Last solution to try before sending it back or returning is to try to drain the battery. Let it keep bootlooping or keep power off then on. Some had same issue n let battery drain. Then recharge it and it might fix itself like that. If that doesn't work, check out Asus website for prime trouble shooting or just exchange tablet. That recovery mode should work though. You go into recovery n clear all caches n data n whatever then factory reset through recovery.
Ok, thank you.
I will try that. Is there any option to re- install the tablet, if you connect it to your computer?
I've read about putting a firmware update on your microSD and then booting or something like that.
Yes, what u need to do is go to the Asus website n download the latest firmware to the root of microsd card. Make sure its the one that matches your prime n country. Also make sure its downloaded to root of memory card. Then put memory card in prime. Then go into recovery and make sure to wipe all data. Caches, dalvaik data. Then choose the option in recovery to flash the firmware. Make sure its pointed towards that file you installed in root of microsd card. It should then flash the revcovery. Make sure to read exact steps on Asus website for prime recovery flash to be sure. It should work after that.
Or you could hook your prime up to your computer. Make sure android adb n drivers installed to it. Then you can manually install the firmware again from Asus website into prime.
Good luck!
Thanks again!!! I will try this before draining. I will post if it worked.
That didn't work either

You need to rename the zip in the zip to the correct name (ep201_...update... -- see post)

Me301t rck option

Hello!
So when i boot my tablet holding power button and volume - button my tablet enter into special asus menu, and there are some options. I don't know what is RCK. When i choose it after a few secounds i can see android with red triangle above. I also find some infos that i can flash firmware using this option. So can anybody tell me what is it and if it is possibble to flash tablet using this, how to do it?
Sent from my ME301T using xda premium
i don't know how it works... but it is the stock recovery on our me301t
just to say you can install upgrade e downgrade (yes even if asus says not ) without RCK utility, simply unzip (once not twice) the firmware, you can download from asus site, into root directory of your sd (formatted as fat32)... insert it into a tablet (off mode)... power on and in the bottom angle near clock you must see a triangle with exclamation mark that informs you can upgrade/downgrade your tablet...
maybe you can try info on RCK on TF300 forum... both tablet are similar use
So,what if i brick my tablet and get bootloop. How to flash firmware?
it seems you can flash file as .blob with RCK but I don't know how...
if you'll brick the tablet i think there is no more chance that send it to asus RMA but first you'll can try to flash stock firmware .blob with RCK
now... with your tablet completely functional if you want to try it only at your own risk :fingers-crossed:
I don't know if RCK works with firmware you can download from asus site in .zip format or once unzip it or unzip twice and use the .blob file... I don't know if RCK works with this files insert in external SD or internal memory (but if you have bricked the tablet how can you put the file into it???) or you need help by adb command (usb debug) and the last but not the least are you sure that RCK works if the tablet is bricked or need it in function? my phone samsung for example needs, to replace stock rom, odin software on a pc to flash it on the phone even if I can't access to the recovery partition
I'm sorry can not help you more, try asking some of the functionality of RCK dev in section TF300

[Q] I have bricked my Dragon Touch A1X tablet. How do I get it up and running again?

I purchased a Dragon Touch A1X 10.1" in hope of rooting and learning about flashing roms. I think I didn't realize how out of my depth that I am in.
Right now when I power on my device it shows the dragon touch logo for a few moments and then goes straight to an animated Android waving at me. It does nothing else. I let it sit over hours and it still waves at me. If I boot into the recovery I can wipe and format to factory settings, but that does not make it work again.
I did do some searching and reading. I went to tabletexpress to get the img and the tool to get my tablet up and running again. When I run LiveSuit or PhoenixUSB and I choose the proper img file the program never changes it's red light to a green light, which it is supposed to do.
I really did not want to post here. I wanted to figure it out myself. But after several days of no progress I do not know what else to do.
Any suggestions?
[EDIT] I didn't mention that I can boot to the Android system recovery. The options provided are (1) reboot system (2) apple update from ADB (3) wipe data/factory reset (4) wipe cache partition (5) apply update from internal storage (6) apply update from external storage (7) apply update from cache-no command. I hope this helps someone understand better where I am at.

How did you get yours in Recovery Mode? Please tell me! I did the same thing you did in your post!
I am sorry I didn't reply sooner. I don't check my email often enough. While the power is off, hold down the volume down button and then turn on the tablet while still holding down the volume down button. The tablet will boot into the recovery mode. From there you can wipe it. I did that and the tablet still didn't boot up. I contacted Dragon Touch they sent me to there support site. Google "tablet express support". It is the top link. Download the firmware from there. Then I:
1) turn the tablet off then
2) when the tablet is off press and hold down either volume button
3) while holding the button down plug the tablet to you computer via USB
4)while the tablet is plugged in AND you are still holding down the volume button press and release the power button 3 times
This puts the tablet in a firmware update mode. I don't know what else to call it. Then their site says to use the Phoenix USB program to restore but that didn't work for me. Livesuite did work for me though, and it took me way longer than I care to admit to find it. I didn't know to go looking for it. Google "livesuite" and it is the top result. Run Livesuite while the tablet is still connected and point the program to where you downloaded the firmware. From there it was smooth sailing for me.
I would imagine that you have fixed your problem by now or moved on, but I still wanted to respond in case someone else comes along looking for this info. I hope that this helps somone.
PS: I can't post links so that is why I made google suggestions to help you find the links I used.

Listen I found out how to unbrick and format a Dragon Touch A1X Plus and fix it as a new one. It works on only windows
First download these 2 files:
PC tool: wwwDOTamazonDOTcom/clouddrive/share/cYpdOlVGqp9389GsKe7aLYYm3xIxQzdBF3BRWXPY8v2?ref_=cd_share_link_copy
Firmware: wwwDOTamazonDOTcom/clouddrive/share/uzS83Y6ay96aap4mxbYlgGsStIdG8VP04eEsS29EdXU?_encoding=UTF8&mgh=1&ref_=cd_share_link_copy
After that, just follow the instructions in this video
wwwDOTyoutubeDOTcom/watch?v=_78NtZqDEpQ
The usbser.sys is the same as us2bser.sys so don't worry and the install and remove things from the Driver_Auto_Installer_v1.352.00:

4 colourful dots? Can you maybe attach a photo or... In theory if it loads for a relatively long time, it is probably bricked (normally soft bricked if the phone can still power on but is stuck in a bootloop)
Did you also install gapps? If you didnt install gapps the rom should still work but gapps gives you all the important apps you need for your phone

Gapps is technically required if you want all the functioning google apps such as play store, youtube, chrome etc.
The 4 coloured dots should be the sign that marshmallow 6.0 has been installed and is loading, but if the loading takes too long (leave it overnight if it is still loading to see if it will boot up the following day), then it may not have been installed correctly. If that is the case you should boot into recovery and factory reset the device (this time taking consideration of installing gapps), and attempt to boot the device again. If all else fails the rom may just simply not work for the device and thus you may have to restore your stock rom.

It may be in the internal storage of the device then. For future reference, when flashing roms, its recommended to place the rom.zip file in the root (the first thing you see when you enter the sd card) of the sd card. You should also "clear cache" after flashing any rom.

If you can't find it you can always just place the rom.zip that you downloaded from your pc into the root of your storage.

Hi again so i installed 6.0 successfully but i forgot to install gapps and i don't know how to enter recovery mode again. I tried power button and volume up key but it doesn't work. The way i installed it was to follow a guy in youtube saying that i should install the ADB Interface to repartition my phone and after that he said i should flash the rom now. After 2 mins of booting up it works. But there is no play store and other google apps. Please help me how to boot into recovery mode again. BTW this is my kernel version: 3.4.0-perf-gfa085ac-00327-g5b0d87d-dirty
