[Q] status 7 set_metadata_recursive on s5839i - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I tried installing this on my Samsung Galaxy Ace S5839i but I got a Status 7 error message : it was made for the S5830i so I changed deleted the assert(...) part in the "META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script". Now I have the same error but with "set_metadata_recursive : some changes failed". I first rooted my phone and then did everything that I needed to do.
Do you know what to do ?
Thank you.

Are you stock in boot loop ( Samsung splash screen ) at the moment or you have access to your stock Android OS ? ( probably reverting back ?)
S5839i and S5830i are almost have identical hardware infrastructure, so status 7 is not due to any incompatible hardware requirement . It is mostly caused by use of wrong instructions ( i.e: wrong "updater-script" you did use ) and other stuff you haven't followed accordingly . Please follow my instruction on post#297 and read up till you get to post#307 for proof of some customer's testimony on our subject in question ( flashing Base band a.k.a; Modem part is required from Totoro device over Odin 3.07 separately. However they might be some consequences, which i have explained in post 307).
Couple of questions , before we start troubleshooting though :
Did you come from stock firmware , before CM11 installation?
what is your CSC/PDA/MODEM parts , your regional/Country Stock firmware's preference ?
Have you lost your IMEI number that is resided inside your EFS partition ? ( Typing the "*#06#" into your dialer, shows noting >> it was wiped out ?? )
Can you make call /SMS/ receive calls ?

Hi,
first thank you for your answer.
At first I think I was stuck into a bootloop so I did a recovery and now it's working again.
I don't really know what you want me to do. I looked at your post and I checked the integrity of the file, it's correct but the stock version is working so I don't really know why I must do this things (I might be dumb saying that but I'm new to this kind of stuff).
I came from the stock firmware, I don't know what you mean by Country preferences or CSC/PDA/MODEM but I bought it from Orange (France), the version of the Ace is S5839iBVLK2 (kernel : 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #1) and the IMEI is still present. I can still call and receive calls.

CM11 (23/07/2014 build or later) has a different formatting infrastructure ( MTD/yaffs2) in comparison to your typical stock Android GB - based / custom Roms based on stock firmware ( RFS Format).
So all of your internal partitions for instance ( /System;/Boot;/Recovery;/data;/cache) will be transformed from RFS to what I did mention. Thus compatible MTD CWM , preferably v6.0.5.3-Cooperve.zip is advised to get it right ( links and instructions found in post in question ).
After completing all of the proper wipe and formatting your /system partition as I instructed in post in question, You can not enter your new OS .
You need to flash MODEM part from Totoro device ( it is possible , because of similar hardware drivers both Modems use) to counter the bug inside CM11. Therefore you will be granted permission to enter your new OS , after flashing only that part over your Odin3 .
Non Wipe Flash able stock FWs :

As for CSC/MODEM/PDA parts >> theses are very important information for troubleshooting, since they are varied and some of them might cause problems in some of the custom Roms i tested. ( check this ongoing troubleshooting session;similar case; Loss of IMEI; post#8 specially explained in details the counter measure procedures ( clean installation methods) for all of the errors we probably received due to incorrect way of installing CM11/nightly build.
This is not a case for you though, because you did revert back to your saved restore point ( not so many people have a foresight to get their Nandroid back up serious ). Also make sure to back up your EFS partition through galaxy toolbox;obtainable from play store; before further tinkering. (save the highlight file, some place safe inside your PC : /sdcard/GalaxyToolbox/"EFSpart.img.SAVE" )
Code:
PDA == build version of the firmware
Phone == baseband / modem version
CSC == consumer software customization and it is specified to geographical region and carriers. CSC contains the software packages specific to that region, carrier branding and also APN settings for data connection, MMS for your service provider. That's some interesting stuff I didn't know, thank you.
So I used CWM 5.0.2.8 to be able to use the version 6.0.5.3, i then did "perform data/wipe + wipe cache partition >> go to mount options > format /system" and installed the ROM, it works correctly without any SIM card. I tried to use with my SIM card and I seem to be stuck at "unlocking SIM card" screen.
I now you said that I needed to flash the MODERN part from Totoro with ODIN but I don't quite get it. How am I supposed to do this ?

@allsman, yes you are almost there mate. Just download Odin3.v3.07.Cooperve from one of our sticky or well written topics available to you in this section or related sub-forums (like this one for instance ). Install appropriate drivers for your PC; in your device settings ; developer section; tick Debugging mode >> probably already selected though<< .( this post is also quite informative for possible PC connectivity issues , or again acquire your drivers package from legitimate topics).
Power off your Phone.
Get into "Download mode" by pressing Vol(+) + Vol(-) + Power Keys.
press volume up
Open Odin3.v3.07.Cooperve.exe
Connect your phone to PC via USB cable.
Make sure that your phone is detected in "ID:COM" area.
put only MODEM file you acquired into it's place >> press START! (reboot and Factory reset might be selected by default ; this is OK though ; just DO NOT select Re-partition option for this particular flashing process).
: You may choose "MODEM_S5360_DDLK1.tar.md5" OR your specific region file .. really doesn't matter ,,,
Do not Remove the USB Cable, until the flashing process is completed.
You will be rebooted to your OS eventually .
Hope I did Help you
You may hit thanks button multiple times in each post , if I was helpful

Thank you, I followed everything I used the "MODEM_S5360_XXMK1.tar.md5" it didn't work (no reboot and still blocked at the unlock SIM screen) so I used "MODEM_S5360_DDLK1.tar.md5" and it still doesn't work ...

@allsman, this is one of the reason behind the fact why I am asking CSC/MODEM/PDA of each individual . Really there is no one universal instruction for each device.
Uploading bunch of s5360 Modems for you, hopefully one of them get it to work ....
Op of Rom in his respected Topic ; under current issues, stated Quote "SIM unlock doesn't work (you must remove your SIM lock in another device/ROM)" Unquote. So I was wandering s5839i may need some special treatment Contrary to typical s5830i/C/M to pass the current bug issue lol,,

Unfortunately none worked ...

@allsman, OK , I might overlook some of the Modem parts which is compatible with your phone's carrier from Totoro available to us : Source 1 ; Source 2 . Search/Request a flash able version you did find fancy in related sub-forums . In the mean time I am thinking about "tassve" devices as well, because their MODEM's driver is almost similar . So for now , get to work and find the latest totoro base band preferably compatible with your carrier for future testing .

These Modem parts compatible with Orange : S5839IBVLD3 ; S5839IBVLH1 ; S5839IBVLK2
These Modem parts are from free France : might be compatible, find flash able version for them ,, share your result please.
S5360XXLH2 ; S5360XXLK3

Suggestion : Free France xxx.tar.md5 file probably would act as free jail card for restricted phone base band . You can get the whole non flash able stock file (S5360XXLH2 ; S5360XXLK3 must be mentioned inside your package) from sammobile database or any place you would find appropriate. Then go to another topic I made for splitfus2 modification >>post#9<<( supports s5360 split ) , get it done by yourself .
P.s: My bandwidth is so limited , sorry i can't download it for split . give it shot though,, This is the fastest way to create your own Modem part.

Hi,
I'm sorry for the lack of answer I was away from this phone this past couple of days.
So I tried every modem parts you said, none worked.
I still don't know why, after the flash the phone isn't restarting and when I insert my SIM card it just stays stuck after typing the SIM code ...

@allsman, Just for the last resort to get pass this bug on your s5839i : Do all of your back up ; flash wipe package for s5830i ( your base band and region compatible ) , your phone will boot up with s5830i logo , then do all of the previous procedure and report back.

Humm ,, your kernel is 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #1 and it is not a secure kernel . Blame must lie with your regional restriction caused by MODEM/CSC restricted parts for your Region i guess . Lets have our back up /EFS back up/Nandroid and try the whole new set of upgraded ( 2014 ) from Germany XXLK3 . wipe package and the rest of process is the same.

Hi,
so my Nandroid backup doesn't seem to work anymore so I just falshed the whole thing and still no changes, I tried some MODEM parts I used for the 1st flash and it's the same ...
I just don't know what to do, aside from throwing my phone away ^^'
P.S. : I tried to "revert" it to the original firmware but it was stuck in a bootloop, in the opposite I had no problem with the S5830i firmware.

Did you use boot loader and re-partition option as I instructed or you only flashed wipe package 3 parts over Odin?Do you still have access to Download mode and recovery ?

Oh right, I'm stupid I didn't use this options but that's only if I want to revert to the official firmware, right ?
I don't need to do this with the S5830i firmware (I'd guess I need to but I'm not sure) ?

[Q][HELP] Lost GPS after Flashing Samsung Galaxy 551 (i5510L)

Hi, I was using stock ROM from my operator CLARO Argentina, and about a week ago I decided to try newer ROM from Samfirmware... big mistake because I flashed European ROM and lost 3G and GPS. I don't care much about the 3G actually since 2G works, slow but fine. What I really need is GPS and I can't understand why it doesn't work since it should work globally, it doesn't depend on local frequency bands like 3G.
Now I have:
PDA: I5510XWKD4
PHONE: I5510XWKD1
CSC: I5510LCTIJK2
I've tried every configuration, fix app, doctor and optimization available in market and also some manual tweaking on the phone but nothing... it doesn't even see the satellites in GPSTest. So I think it goes deeper, maybe something driver related? Anyway I've come up with a few possible causes and solutions I would like to ask for your help and experience to figure out if they're reasonable and your opinion on whether they could work or not.
1. Driver related, compile own kernel from opensource.samsung.com and reflash only boot.img (Have all the tools, now learning how to do this) Q: could I brick my phone beyond repair by flashing my own compiled kernel?
I found a few differences between callisto_rev03_defconfig from I5510L and I5510 which I will list but none seem related to the GPS... it seems they apply to storage.
Also I found out that the GPS is integrated into the Qualcomm MSM7X27 chip which both phones have so I'm starting to feel drivers are not the issue here... This is getting disturbing, it seems that none of the model differences have to do with the GPS so... it should work with no problems...

2. App related. I notice there are a few apps that seem related to GPS/location, maybe restoring one of this apps could help? I have Ti backup from before flashing, but don't know exactly which apps could be responsible. Haven't tried this yet.
3. I read in a few places that radio.img could be responsible for both 3G loss and GPS loss, is there anyway to get this radio from somewhere? Perhaps another phone? Remember I have i5510L which is slightly different from plain i5510.
NEW Perhaps replacing system.rfs from original rom into KD4 pda and then reflashing could shed some light whether it's app related or not... is it too dangerous for the phone to do this?
That's all I can come up with now, any help would be greately appreciated. Also if someone knows where to get original firmware would be welcome too. I took my phone to service but they still haven't received samsung repair box so they told me I just have to wait
from what i know amss_phone has the phone's radio. So you will need the amss of your country/carrier.(I was wrong I guess ).
Can you achieve root in recovery mode ?
If yes I can flash Clockworkmod recovery .

radio seems promising since kernel doesn't unfortunately I don't have and haven't found anywhere Odin files for i5510L. But a fellow member of XDA kraka23 was smarter than me and has dumps of all the partitions on his phone. Do you have an idea which partition could be radio.img? If so, I could ask him for it.
On the recovery side, I have no clue... sorry. I don't even know how to check if I have root in recovery, but I'm willing to learn and help... if you are patient with me.
I wouldnt do that .
One wrong move and you could blow off your phone.
Yes flashing partition is dangerous cos there have been instances where people blew off the download/recovery mode.
Thanks for the heads up! That sucks then because Odin files for my original rom are nowhere to be found
Update: I restored as many apps that I could find that seemed related to GPS from my Ti backup but didn't work either... I'm starting to feel hopeless here. I just hope they get the samsung box soon in the service bc it's looking like my only hope... well that or gettin' insurance for it and then making it "sleep with the fishes" (won't actually do that of course)
NEW Perhaps replacing system.rfs from original rom into KD4 pda and then reflashing could shed some light whether it's app related or not... is it too dangerous for the phone to do this?
Well I dont think it will help.
If the radio is in amss file ,how will replacing system.rfs help ?
It wont be dangerous via odin.
Using dd to replace parts is risky and currently we have only 4-5 motivated people losing one will be 20 p.c. damage to the work force ..
Well the care centre in ur area.Be chummy with the dude who is inside .You might be able to wrestle the four files when they receive the "kit".
Edit 1 : I was reading disclaimers on samfirmware and they said that replacing cross continent firmwares may result in loss of 3G connections
Yes I knew there was a chance to mess up 3G but I thought it would be fixable... and it doesn't matter that much to me. But the GPS loss is really weird. I reflashed the firmware to rule out an odd flashing error but it still doesn't work...
I meant flashing a system.rfs to see if Apps were the problem. If I do get radio.img somehow and merge it with KD4 rom and flash with Odin, would that be safer?
GPS is a kind of radio.
I dont think so radio.img will help .You will require CM recovery and it doesnt work on samsung phones.
Yeessssssssssssssssssssss!!!!! I Fixxx the GPSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
Same problem that splattx_x1!. I lost the GPS after flash the KD4 rom...
Here the solution:
Download this file:
megaupload.com/?d=0BHWKAJ1
This is amss_phone from I5510TVJKD1 brasilian rom!!!!. I came to test with brasilian radio and Eureka!!!! the GPS is back!
I hope I can help if some Latin American countries. I'm from Argentina
Cheers!!!!!
EDIT: I forget the instructions!!
Flash this file with Odin. JUST ONLY THIS FILE (amss_phone)
In the PHONE buttom in Odin, select the "amss_phone_brasil.tar" file an flash it!. I repeat ... ONLY THIS FILE!!
This is awesome news for Latin american users of Galaxy 551, unfortunately I was not very patient and went to my provider and changed my phone. Now I have a galaxy mini... (my phone also kept freezing and shutting down).
But great great news!!! Congrats!!
Did you have this entire package? I5510TVJKD1 ?

Hi splattx_x,
Sorry for my badly english. My question is about the entire package from I5510TVJKD1 ROM.
PDA, PHONE, CSC.
I´m from Brazil, and having problems with this device. My screen is unresponsive when in charger and freezing. =/
I already tried update or change another version. But now I want revert to Original combination, like new. My original version was I5510TVJKD1
You talk about part (amms) from this version, i think you have entire package.
Thanks for you support.

Amazing how you fixed this, it tried it too but i couldnt do it. Is your phone rooted?. I also first updated the firmware to gingerbread 2.3.6, and after it, gps never works.
I am from Venezuela, not Argentina, but just maybe the solution is similar.
I tried your fix but it says "an unnamed file was not found", any clue?.

unknown baseband and unknown imei problem

Guys please help me, i did try to downgrade firmware to ics 4.0.4 and all in a day . i go up with some custom recovery and then i tried to install zip , all these kinda stuff which i collected from friends here , i mean baseband files , IM-A850L_Modem_Empty and IM-A850L_Modem_2.22_3.0.114015 and why the hell is still this unresolved issues stuck with my phone, i mean baseband unknown and imei unknown and no signal . and when i downgraded my phone then at start up welcome screen i observed something new , that my phone is trying to activate and after 5 minutes it says unable to activate ? ,and there was no sim inserted in my mobilephone during these whole processes,.. is this locked ? you can see attached screenshot picture and one more thing , at my boot bios screen its written as kernel tampering count 2 , root detected , is this gonna be dangerous for me if i mess around more ? ,what precautions should i take because i am new new new to all of this
. and i installed this recovery >> PhilZ_Touch_CWM_6.0.3.2_VegaR3_by_diszell2008_fastboot and there was no option of format fotamodem in "mount and storage" in that recovery . so these kinda options really bother ? when you try to mess up with baseband files .and in the end i also tried to do stock official jelly bean rom from pdl download option because i have binx file .but still same unknown baseband and unknown imei .My korean phone model is pantech vega r3 ( im-850L ) L version .

Try to get the original stock ROM to flash look here or get help from them about details, that's the normal process to recover from such problems. You should also remove any USIM passwords for your SIM card, best to seek help in such threads.

yes they can be resolved, read this as to why you get this problem and this as to how to solve it. unfortunately, I do not own a pantech vega phone or have acess to one, so you need to get help from the link i gave earlier.

issues
still the same issue here, i have given this mobile to a mobile expert, he tried to flash many things through touch custom recovery , like SK telecom original jelly bean flash file for korean s3 variant in my pantech vega a850L . but no progress. its been a while i got no success, i mean to say that more than one and half month past and i am stuck with it. i am posting the screen shots now. anYOne can atleast tell me that is it resolvable with riff box if its a hardware issue. You can see in last screen shot in which NO SIGNAL issues still exist.
imei
Guys also let me know, is there any particular way to flash anything like baseband and custom roms, i mean i did wipe cache delvik and similar stuff. but yeah i am totally new to all of these stuff .. and let me tell you one more thing that in my previous white Pantech vega a850L , when i used to press *#06# it shows me "IMEI" as"----proper imei numbers------" but now in this black pantech vega a850L when i press *#06# , it show something like this >> "MEID" as blank . nothing at all . You can see in this attached screenshot .
According to your problem and history it seemed Baseband CHip error,
but as a last resort you may try with some re-partition/re-format function from Custom Recovery.
Otherwise final try with JTAG Method from some professional
Good Luck!
Note:- Before JTAG batter to open your phone and check internal H/W for water/other damages
Haven't used a pantech, but doesn't it have its OWN stock ROM? why do you need to flash korean s3 firmware?
If stock fails, try to install an aosp rom, like CM - these work even with no imei, it also resolves not-registering problemos.

yeah but i am not very much of this JTAg , riffbox, i mean to say that is it related only to repair dead boot . wel in my case i am able to proceed further from booting and all that. but i am not sure what to do now, i tried to purchase this JTag today but voila so much expensive for a little piece of riffbox for a client like me. anyhow if riffbox is the only solution i will definetly go for it, and hey i am not kidding, please tell me this repartition format criteria? , i mean is this something to do custom recovery in the boot, last time it had a skin of some SK telecom custom firmware then in custom recovery i chose the option factory reset just like to install a new rom then i did the job i think , i mean after selecting that option my phone only got stuck with further proceed to nothing except boot and logo . then i have to install a stock rom from pdl download mentioned in the boot bios .but after installing stock jelly bean , still same unknown imei and unknown baseband.

the first impression that i took after reading your post here, i really misunderstood that how am i not gonna be so lucky. well i read many post in vietenamese forums regarding baseband files, but got no success, but the link which u provided i tried today and tried to flash first empty baseband and then the real one, it first show unknown baseband in the boot command screen when i flashed empty baseband zip file but when i went for real baseband zip file it show baseband versions stuff in boot command screen like this
IM-A850L Modem S1233211.Tp25

but still not so sure why unknown baseband after reboot. anyhow i flashed Xperia Mod ROM and when i again check for *#06# . it shows blank now as imei "blank nothing " you can see attached pick.
The guy who almost did expert on this mobile for a month , he arranged for rifbox but he was not very much expert so he give up, and now i am still stuck, not knowing what kind of software or even hardware issue is this? but please read this baseband for me as if how to flash baseband files specially post#1 and post#14

[Q] Android Newbie, Need Help Guys

hi , i just bought a secondhand Galaxy s3 GT-I9300 , with :
Android Version of 4.1.1
Baseband Version I9300XXDLID
Kernel Version 3.0.31-368423 [email protected] - 78 #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Oct 19 2012
Build Number JRO03C.I9300XXDLIH
i wanted to update via OTA .. but it says " Your Device has been modified. Software updates are not available " every time i try to update
the previous owner of the s3 has also mentioned to me that he had someone install an app called " Blackmart Alpha " which is like Google Play Store but the apps there are free according to him ... i have also seen a " SuperSu " app which i know is something that presents itself when the Android is rooted
Guys ... i want to be able to update via OTA for the upcoming release of the 4.3 Jellybean from Samsung which makes my s3 compatible with the Samsung Smart Gear Watch .. kindly help me here please
Also , i have a couple of questions .. would really appreciate it if you guys can shed some light on them : ( if you don't mind , can you kindly answer each after every question so that it makes for easier cross referencing , thanks )
1. can i have an official Samsung 4.3 update , but still be able to run my s3 at speeds of up to 1.7 GHz with another kernel
2. Given that now , i am running 4.1.1 Version of Jelly Bean .. when i reset / flash ( i am not sure of the terms used specifically ) ... will it be back to Ice Cream Sandwhich again ?
3. does the " Blackmart Alpha " app have anything to do with the Google Play Store saying that " Unfortunately , the process com.google.process,gapps has stopped " every time i open Play Store ?
3.a . does the " Blackmart Alpha " app have any bearing on the flashing process .. i mean do i have to take it into consideration that a certain " Blackmart Alpha " app has been installed on the s3 .. prior to flashing ?
4. i really want to do a full clean up of the s3 ( as in everything is back to like when it was first taken out of the box ... no data , no downloaded apps ... just like a brand new phone straight out of the box ) .. is that possible ...? .. or will some data still be present in the phone even after doing a full clean up ?
5. i am not sure whether the kernel of my secondhand s3 has been changed to a custom kernel .. do i have to know first if it has indeed been changed to a custom kernel before doing any flashing of any sort to the s3 ? .. or it wouldn't really matter ..
6. i was reading about something called the efs on the faqs page .. says there : " /EFS is a partition on your phone where your IMEI code is stored. Without it your phone is an expensive PDA. Make sure to have a backup of this partition on a separate device. " My question is , do i really have to back it up .. and if yes , how do i possibly do it ?
that's all .. thank you guys for your time .. hope you can help me out here , have a great day ahead guys
Hey
About efs I would strongly recommended it.in case u screw up ur imei it will be difficult to restore...
And as for the 4.3 official update I would do the following steps
0. Make sure usb debugging in enabled..settings-developer options-usb debugging..
1. Download triangle away to restore your flash count..Google it..
2. Download official firmware from sammobile.com..
3. Use odin3 to flash it..Google to download Odin..
To use Odin:
4. Extract the firmware zip ONCE ONLY..!!
5. Open Odin and click on pda..then select the unzipped file. (.tar format)
6. Connect your phone in download mode (vol down+ home+ power) then select vol up to boot download mode.
7. Connect your device using a Samsung original usb cable and it should show "device added " on Odin screen
8. Click start..wait..Done..
This will make your phone new..straight out of the box kind..
After flashing If u encounter boot loop then boot into recovery (vol up+home+ power) and wipe data..
Sent from my Amazing Samsung Galaxy S III...!
(1) Not with the official 4.3 kernel when it arrives you will need a custom kernel to overclock (Basically stock kernel no custom kernel yes)
(2) It will only go back to ICS if you flash a ICS stock rom (not recommended ICS as SDS problem) Solution flash JB stock rom
(3) Should not be affecting Google Play Store recommend installing new gapps or new Google Play Store apk or new rom
(3a) No
(4)Yes (plenty of instructions on how to do that on xda)
(5) In settings about phone/ kernel/you will find details about the kernel you are using..You need to know what kernel you are on if you plan on flashing a rom that does not have one included (To see if yours is compatible with that rom). But most roms have a kernel included or choice of kernels to use when flashing that particular rom.
(6) No you don't have to back the efs up but it is highly recommended if it gets corrupt you will be in big trouble.Plenty of software options on xda on how to backup your efs..Also some roms include a option to backup your efs.
Read up on everything you can before installing a new rom and make sure you know what you are doing
Also don't know much about Blackmarket Alpha app but sounds highly illegal to me!
the previous owner of the s3 has also mentioned to me that he had someone install an app called " Blackmart Alpha
That is a warez app that steals from developers /
Warez discussion is banned on xda developers forum .

Problem Reverting to Stock Rom

Hi all,
I installed CM11 onto my S5830i (GB) and managed to get it all working. I had to install S5360_XXMK1 modem and a newer version of CWM to prevent the "Status 7" error. Anyway, it all worked and I had CM11 up and running. Unfortunately, I had to remove it, I couldn't click any links in the browser and the browser was slow as all buggery even on a fast wifi connection. So I fired up Odin and tried to put the stock firmware on (i don't have an original state backup, the phone came with a custom rom on it already). I got these files
CSC_S5830i_BTUMD1.tar.md5
MODEM_S5830i_XXMD1.tar.md5
PDA_S5830i_XXMD1.tar.md5
But something's messing up, after Odin does its thing and the phone restarts, I notice something on the screen during restart saying it failed to format the /data partition. When I let the phone boot up normally it just stays on the "Samsung" startup animation forever. If I go into samsung recovery and try to do a factory reset, this is what I see
Code:
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/stl11
Formatting /cache...
Data wipe complete.
Obviously, something's wrong there, can anyone tell me how to fix it pleeeeese, I'd be eternally grateful.
Thanks
NS
EDIT: I think the CM install may have messed around with my partitioning. I do not have a pit file for the phone (GB Version) and am reluctant to be using the re-partition option in Odin. I can find pit files online, but they're either not the correct version or the poster doesn't even say what version it is. I am just so lost and confused with all this.
@NicSure, Flashing wrong base band into your Ace-i is ill advised mate, go to CM11 discussion topic and read my comments . ( You will damage your EFS partition, thus device may become hard bricked in many cases)
As for troubleshooting : Already explained all of the instructions in details in many places, So I will provide links/hints for now. If your problem persisted, let us know
Here we go mate:
1. Official source for your stock firmware CSC/MODEM/PDA >> this page (sammobile.com)
2. Study this topic to get the hang of Wipe flash-able packages,,, How to produce them, Boot looder and pit files required for the process , etc etc,, all well instructed here
3. Read few last pages of this topic; my comments; for more insight into your problem. Please be advised you have already converted your partitions into MTD ,therefore formatting /data ( concerting back into RFS partitions ) might be failure through CWM/e3 recovery >> Odin process is required for"stl11" .
Hope I did help you

Thanks but you were too technical. I have been to a lot of those pages you linked and it's not all obvious what's going on. You spoke about "base band", I have no idea what that is. I have no idea what RFS, MTD
are (file systems?), not do I know where to get a bootloader from. Sam mobile won't let me download anything without paying and/or signing up which I'm reluctant to do. I'll re-read the posts you linked to (I had already seen them) and see if something starts to make more sense.
For instance:
"Please be advised you have already converted your partitions into MTD ,therefore formatting /data ( concerting back into RFS partitions ) might be failure through CWM/e3 recovery >> Odin process is required for"stl11"
May as well have been in Klingon, I didn't understand a word of it.
EDIT:
I've reviewed those threads again. Seems I need to use split fus on the downloaded file from SamMobile (which I had to register to download, not happy about that) and use the "wipe" versions. I need a pit file, there's no info anywhere on how to get that. So I've just done a general google and hopefully I've downloaded one (more info on that is needed in the tuts). And the bootloader is attached to the unbrick thread, but, is that the ONLY bootloader? Do I need a specific one for my region? Do I need a specific pit file for my region? All this info is not supplied anywhere, Newcomers are not going to know this stuff and it needs to be made clear in the tutorials. Most of the tuts have broken links (split fus for instance), so I'm not sure if the stuff I googled is actually the same. Absolute nightmare.

"Robust File System" is more or less equivalent to your FAT/FAT32 of your PC ( Samsung file system Format,, not going to add "Journalling system" to the mix, since you are not a sport ,,FYI : You are supposed to know common terms such as MTD , RFS when you are massing with CM11 mate >> Read the first page thoroughly, before start experimenting with Cyanogen stuff,,,
MTD (Memory Technology Device) supports YAFFS2 as a file system residing on it and is considered some type of of Partition Map.

Again, Read the topic I mentioned above. You are on Cooperve device, so be aware of wrong file ( "cooperve_0623.pit" resided inside Odin3.v3.07.Cooperve folder) All of the related links already provided , Just take your time and read mate.
I'd already read the posts you linked to multiple times thank you. They may be "straight forward" to you, but I can assure you they are certainly not so for a newcomer. Too many things are vague, missing or not explained properly.
In any case, I managed to get the stock firmware back on after trawling the internet for a .pit file, downloading the firmware, splitting it, taking the wipe versions with the pit and the bootloader and using Odin to fully flash the phone back to stock firmware, Finally. The tuts here are indeed a lot of help, but so so so disjointed.
Also, why would changing the base band effect the file system? How could it cause physical damage to NAND memory. I'm confused. I assume you mean physical damage, because if not, why would it be ill-advised to change it if it could just be changed back with no ill-effects?
@NicSure, First of all Thanks button implanted here for a good reason and most likely you are the first person who was complaining about my assistance (How information is organized and distributed for new commers is not my responsibility nor distribution of step-by-step instructions ) . Second of all You were complaining about the technical terms and jargon, But know you are asking for technical reason in regard of the consequences of flashing Galaxy Y GT-S5360 inside your ACE-i device !
I did mention about EFS partition corruption, which renders your device mobile network communication useless and hard bricking of your device.which is a phone that shows no signs of power-on and will not access download mode with button combo. You did assume wrong mate.
Generally speaking, Carriers use different radio frequencies in our respective countries , Different Devices do contain different modem hardware inside, So you are not encouraged to do what you have done in the first place.
If you are not flashing the correct versions for your phone , or if the flash gets interrupted there’s a good chance you will Hard Brick your device, thus we may need hardwired access to modify/erase and rewrite chip's code ( Service is required).
When a phone is in a hard-bricked state it’s most likely that the bootloaders, which is the phones initial code to launch the phones ROM, becomes corrupted.
The only way to revive the phone is to rewrite the bootloader code, because the phone does not power on ., So you see so many things could go wrong :silly:

Firstly, I'm not complaining, I'm criticizing, there's a difference. I was critical of your language and terminology as it didn't match the links you posted. Also the level of technical talk you used toward a clear newbie who would obviously never understand it without clarification. If that offends you then I'm sorry, I'm just speaking my mind. Help offered, no matter how kindly or freely is useless if it cannot be understood. I generally take a very irritated approach to people who post links (with the implication that the information is freely available if you'd bother to look) in response to perfectly polite questions, especially when I'd already read ALL the posts you linked to before and had trouble with them, that is why I posted, to get a little more basic understanding, not be presented with links to material I'd already read and needed help with. Also, after some researching, with regard to the base-band, I think you're wrong, there's no way flashing a different base-band separately could effect the bootloader, no way at all. I seriously doubt it could even cause corruption, that's liek saying installing the incorrect driver for a graphics card on a PC could corrupt the file system, just no. So far I've flashed many many different MODEM types onto my phone to try to test this, in some caes the phone boots, in some cases it doesn't etc.. Not once has the phone failed to go into Odin flash mode, and if it can get to that, it can be restored. So based on research and some experimental evidence conducted to test your assertion, I'd have to say that my initial findings are that your assertion is probably incorrect.
Also I learn very quickly. My knowledge of the subject had increased dramatically from my first post to my second. I learned c++ in a day for example, and was posting similar newbie questions on programming forums to which I was later replying with a level of knowledge that wasn't consistent with my initial post. It's just me, sorry about that. And thanks for trying to help, but I got it myself.

... I can assure you they are certainly not so for a newcomer.

Dear NicSure, I am in the same situation as yours, I was planning to "simply" (or maybe wrongly?) use Odin 3.09 and flash the Splitted files from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-ace/s5830i-develop/stock-rom-odin-flashable-firmware-t3002776).
But you mentioned that also the ".pit" file is needed. Could you guide me through the process you followed to have back a Stock from CM11 ROM?
Thank you in advance!

Per your request/confirmation @ development section/twr topic i would resume troubleshooting .
What is your device variation (5830i/C/M/V/5839i ) ? Do you have any Nandroid back up left inside your SD card from your original stock firmware partitions ? Can you see your IMEI number , when you are dialing "*#06#" ? Your original stock CSC/PDA/MODEM you are coming from ? Your Region / Country / carrier you are staying with at the moment and please give me the Totoro Modem part you did flash to get into the CM11 ? and for addressing part of your primary queries , Odin 3.07 works very well with variation I mentioned above ( you could use 3.09 with no harm though , but not recommended ) . Pit file also must be relevant, otherwise you will hard brick your device in many cases I observed .

[Q] Flashed Stock Rom 4.3 via ODIN, can't make/receive calls

Hello People
Again, I'm with problems with my S3 since the one time decided to test a custom ROM which turned out to screw my IMEI and got to it back working with BOX in repair service.
I n order to see if the BOX fix did actually solve my signal problem, it was suggested to me in a previous post that I flash the same stock rom via ODIN. Before that, I backed up current EFS as well.
Unfortunately, it seems the problem wasn't entirely solved. Same as before: both my IMEI and S/N are untouched (S/N does not coincide with S/N in the back of phone) and though it says I have a full signal, I'm not registered in network and i can't make or receive calls, sms, etc. Even though I restored the EFS folder, nothing happens.
I really wish not to go back to repair service again. What else can I do about this? Many thanks and excuse my rant. Hope I was thorough and clear on the problem. I also have a EFSv2_basebands_opt4.zip file I downloaded somewhere in xda . Would that help?
Many thanks.

Flash a patched modem and kernel from here >> https://drive.google.com/folderview...sharing&tid=0B6MIUd7HJudAbU5YaGkzOUowMG8#list << see if that works if it doesyou will always need to use the patched files.
Thanks tallman43! I'll try that. Also, I noticed now that the EFS folder is EMPTY :/. and the backup .tar I made with CWM says it's 0 bytes? wtf?
still, in phone info, imei and s/n are there. weird?
THANK YOU

Your recommendation worked like a charm. My signal is up and running normally. MANY THANKS tallman43.
Lastly, even if I sometime I decide to try out a custom ROM (unlikely at the moment, but who knows?), I still have to flash patched kernel&modem? or in case of factory reset (I will be selling the phone soon) ?That custom really messed up my phone...

I would still like to solve the problem at its roots: to fix the "not registered in network" problem whenever factory reset or stock ROM flash via odin is done. That is simply not normal. I might be selling the phone soon and the new user won't most probably know he/she would have to apply a patched kernel or etc.. ( let alone about rooting the phone).
Basically, bring the phone back to it's original sound state before I tried out the custom ROM. What can I do about that?
Hope I'm not being annoying.. just trying to get to the bottom of things

There is nothing you can do without your original efs backup.Only a service repair can fix it.

Understood. I think I have the original EFS in my SD, though I tried replacing it once and it didn't work out... I suppose I'll have to make do. Thanks for everything man
Flashing modem with Ariza patch was bad idea. Your efs folder is screwed up now and you are addicted to constantly flash this dirty workaround.
If anyone have problems with registering in network please check your device serial number first. It must be the same as on the sticker under battery. If it's not then type *#0011# and check info under IMEI CERT. If there is FAIL info then you should use any box ie Z3X to correct phone's serial number. It takes only few minutes and is cheap. It's better long-term way than patching and permanently destroying your efs informations.
If you have backup then you should flash normal modem and restore original efs partition. Then find any GSM service center with box and tell them to fix serial number. It shouldn't cost more then 5-10 dollars.

I have never flashed the Ariza patch nor have I even mentioned it on my previous posts explaining the problem. Fixing the s/n issue is indeed adviseable, but paying to correct s/n using box here where I live is ASTRONOMICALLY expensive. They should answer for never having fixed it, but they won't. Here is a hell of a lot more than 5-10 dollars, unfortunately.
Believe me , I'm no happier in applying this sorry fix every time I want to factory reset or upgrade, etc; it's the only option I have left at the moment.
Those files you have flashed, I mean kernel and modem are patched with Ariza's method. It is called Ariza patch and it is latest solution you should take to resurrect your phone because it is a destructive one.
Sorry to hear that you can't repair it as it should be especially if you want to sell this device.

May i ask a few questions about your problem?
Which version were you using when you desided to use a custom rom?
Was your phone ever rooted before installing a custom rom (when you were on official)
Did you upgrade your phone before? (Official via ota or odin)

I was on 4.2.2 leaked version ROM some guy installed at a repair service some time ago when the phone belonged to my mother. I was actually rooted using the CF AutoRoot method, with Philz CWM recovery. I decided to change to a custom 4.3 without having changed first to a stock 4.3.
The problem came when, within the custom ROM's aroma installer, I ticked an option to upgrade the modem to some build I can't remember now and my signal became screwed up. I informed this in the developer's custom rom discussion thread about the issue to which he replied that the problem was that the EFS folder tried to convert from v1 to v2 and failed (this was when I learned of the whole efs version folder change since build XXX (don't remember).
I download a stock unbranded 4.3 ROM and flashed it via ODIN, believing that would solve the issue; it didn't. Finally, I became desperate and took it to a repair service where they used box. Apparently, late did I notice s/n was not the same as the one in the back of phone. I'm guessing that would solve the problem? I don't know.
i am sorry for your loss . i wish you had all that info you learned before a try and fail. now that your imei number is a clon number, and once a box tempers with that you cant go back even if you have your orijinal efs folder or backup. you should always have that 2 patched modem and kernel files on your sd card just incase. you can use custom 4.3 with the patched files and get a signal but you will always have some lags after some time because of the kernel. and lucky you samsung stopped updating s3 officially because patched files are only for 4.3. if you dont have a desire to use custom 4.4.4 kitkat roms then you are good to go and when it comes to sell the device, the price will be much lower then an original s3.

Well, actually, IMEI didn't get cloned; of that I'm certain. IMEI is just the same as it was before I took it for the first time to repair service. It was the S/N that got changed somehow. Should I get them to correct the S/N, and use the original EFS folder (I found it, i think), would that correct all problems?
S/N number is the same with imei number as when you dial *#06# . And as i said before you cant go back even if you have your original efs folder. Dial *#06# and check your imei number from an " imei check site " you can find on google search. That will tell you what i mean.
There are: IMEI, device serial number and Android serial number. First two numbers are on the sticker in battery Bay. They must be correct because are used to authorize IMEI certificate.
Samsung's IMEI begins from 35.....
Serial number usually from RF......
If you see serial number in HEX format in phone's info section, something like f1abcadef1.. than it is android not device serial number and this mean troubles with authorize SIM card in operator network, even if it shows proper signal power.
I don't know there is any secret code to display serial number but there is plenty of phone's info apps in playstore which displays this alphanumeric string.
