[Q] Issue with gaming - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. I have a problem, which is annoying me so much. I like playing games, as all of us do. But the problem is that i can't play 'Simpsons: Tapped Out' on any AOSP or AOKP based roms, the game freezer after about a minute, and it the same each time. I have tried removing game, removing its data, using other accouts, but each time it crashes. The game only works on samsung based roms. Thats the most annoying part, 'cause I dont like sammy based roms. So whats the problem? I really havent found any helpful information yet. Thanks.

Does this happen on 4.4.4 based roms or all custom roms you try? If you haven't tried 4.3/4.2/4.1 aosp based roms, you should try that then. I recommend starting with slimsaber reborn: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...rivatives/rom-slimsaber-reborn-i9100-t2811657 then if that still has problems, try a 4.1 based rom.

Yes, I have tried other versions. Maybe first time i have confronted this problem was about year or year and a half ago, but then i just stopped playing. And now I'm just curiuous and want to know whats the problem. Btw, I still haven't tried it on any lollipop versions.

Just tried 5.0.2 and got the same. Game freezes after about 2 minutes of playing. Everything stopped and sound just kept lagging in background, then tried to reboot my phone and it stuck on Samsung logo. Had to reinstall Neatrom.

I think this may be due to the mali drivers our phone depends on. (Since the newer ones have problems with the game you are trying to run). Or another theory could be the app is simply having a hard time trying to launch on a custom rom for our device. But yeah, the app is probably more optimised for stock 4.1.2.

[Q] Constant random freezes

Searched the forum, didn't really find anything relevant so here goes.
Using CM9 right now to experience the ICS goodness (I know..experimental) but it happened with CM7 too which is what I would call a very stable ROM. Can't tell you if it happened with stock touchwiz because I removed that as soon as I got my phone...
At random times when I'm using the phone, it completely freezes and the only way to fix it is to hold the power button down to shut down/turn back on. I'm not doing anything particular so theres no pattern like launching angry birds, 2 minutes later the phone freezes. launch angry birds, freezes..etc.
What I thought could be causing it..
1) Something faulty in the phone.
2) A buggy app in the background that I don't know is running.
3) Losing internet connectivity/service causing an error of some sort..as bizarre as that sounds.
Can anyone help me with this?
Any suggestions/opinions anyone might have would be much appreciated.

Possible but the least likely .
2) A buggy app in the background that I don't know is running.
Again possible .
3) Losing internet connectivity/service causing an error of some sort..as bizarre as that sounds.
Not heard of that one

Total wipe of the phone and sd card and put a stock rom on is the only way to eliminate bad rom bad apps .
99% of the current problems are all from beta test rom ICS in some shape or form and errors are random and varied .

I know theres lots of problems with CM9 but yeah as I said it was still an issue with CM7. Mostly have the same apps that was on my old HTC desire that was also running CM7 which made me think it was a problem with the phone. I'll try the stock rom idea and see if it helps...kills me to use touchwiz though! I find it ghastly!

You CAN install other launchers so you don't have to look at the TouchWiz launcher, you know. I'm on a stock ROM, haven't looked at the TouchWiz launcher in months.
I know that but I'd rather have the latest and greatest which CM9 seems to be at the moment. All the things that don't work don't really affect me. Also I've been using the stock touchwiz rom and still am having the freezing problem so I'm guessing its a dodgy app...gonna be a long process to determine which one it is though.

Its certainly not what i would put on my phone but it is users choice .
I find a clue in the high number of help or bug posts regarding certain roms is a certain indicator for me to steer clear of. ICS has multiple error posts of a varied nature what works for one phone does not work on another .

Games compatible to SGSII

Seriously, I've been searching for 3 days now on why the hell Starfront: Collision won't run properly on my SGSII phone (4.0.4, 2.3 Resurrection ROM)
I get this:
These red lines also appear replacing my GUI in-game a fix is setting transparency to max but then even notifications stay with the red lines.
I also get blue flashing artifacts all over my screen when sending units to buildings.
Why is it so hard to find information about this? Its not only this game but also HAWX's planes are black or white at the selection screen and N.O.V.A crashing frequently. Some forums say that the games are Firmware, model, GPU dependent. Iv'e been on another forums claiming that Starfront: Collision isn't compatible with Mali GPU models... well how come i could play this game and N.O.V.A flawlessly 1 year ago when i first rooted my phone? and now i can't suddenly...
Can people please explain me or link me to explanations, fixes and even share sites to games compatible to the SGSII???
Thank you.
It's not sgs2, it's aosp issue, if it works on stock

So in order to have them work properly i would need to leave it in stock?
What about MIUI or CyanogenMod?
Just try different ROM's like MIUI and CM9. And if the problem persists, looks like its stock or put up. I'm on RR 2.3 and I have no problems.

Isn't there anything else that might be causing the problem??
I like RR very much :/
Its so frustrating i can't play good Gameloft games anymore..
I found that certain games like six guns and settlers didn't work on aosp or aokp Roms so I went back to a modified Samsung Rom. If there is a solution I'd love to know

Spikes PureICS 7.5 & AOSP apps - here
It's based on Samsung LPG Rom but with AOSP look and some AOSP apps. Looks great but there are still certain things from the AOSP and AOKP Roms that I miss

I'm starting to think its not ROM related... i tried RGUI NDT MIUI, RootBOX and now Spikes PureICS.
They're all giving me the same issues. NOVA crashes after a minute or two and Starfront Collision shows blue, greed boxes and the GUI doesn't show.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure the first NOVA game doesn't work correctly on ICS anyway. As for Starfront, try deleting the downloaded game cache files and letting it download them again after reinstalling the app. That's fixed it a few times for me with troublesome games

Any Non Stock Rom Reboots and Shows Green Screen Randomly

I'm having an issue with every rom except the stock rom with the phone automatically rebooting itself while doing simple tasks and showing a green screen. I tried enabling force gpu rendering etc but still getting this. Though with any stock roms (default rogers rom + the jb 4.1.2 for att etc) i dont occur this issue. What could be the problem?
Yeah this happens wayyy to often on 4.2.2 roms a little bit less on 4.1.x roms.

This is usual since we do not have the kernel source to make ROMS stable and not reboot. 4.2.2 ROMs are more stable then 4.1.2 so idk what you did there.

Rebooting on 4.2 ROMS
I'm having the same problem as OP with my i717 It happens bad on all of the 4.2 ROM's I've tried, and I know it's not the ROM. So far I've tried: Slim, Supernexus, CM10.1,ReVolt all of which I love! I really want to fix this. I start a game or other app and get a wildly flashing green, blue or sometimes black screen and then she reboots. Usually when opening a game or instagram, but not limited to those apps. It's hard for me to replicate the symptoms. Anyone else struggling with these symptoms on 4.2 roms? It seems less often on 4.1.2 ROM. When I restore a Blackstar ICS setup from twrp the phone runs beautifully. I've used darkside super-wipe hoping that would help. I've also tried changing recovery. Now I'm running out of things to try. I feel like somethings not being cleaned properly before install but I'm new so I don't really know.
Should I try using ODIN to flash a stock jelly bean firmware in order to sort of "start over fresh"?
I wish I could explain to everyone better my problem.

1) AOSP is unofficial so these is going to happen. 2) Is your screen flickering? 3) if so check HW overlays in dev options.

It happens to PACman ROMs too, try listening to music while attempting to cause the crash.. .There will be a loud beeping sound, followed by the greenish-blue screen, then the device will shut off, and reboot
I got the crash on trying to wake the device to unlock, and grabbed a logcat using Catlog.

[Q] Display Not waking up

On any stock ROM I try I can turn the phone on and use it until I turn the screen off. For whatever reason I can never get it to go back on I've tried raising the minimum processor speed and changing the governor. But when I flash aosp the problem disappears entirely. I would really like to know what's going on there's a couple stock based ROMs I would like to try
I had the same issue when I was on stock. So you aren't alone there

did you ever find a fix? I want to try some of those qslide apps. and slightly unrelated but which ROMs have the qslide browser working?
Nope, I just flashed other roms. haven't been on stock in a while, don't know what qslide browser is
Last shot for help fixing this ive included a logcat as well not sure why i didnt do it first. ive lgnpst every bin for this phone there is and ive even tried a couple ls970 roms. the only thing that seems to boot and work correctly is kit kat (which i find horribly boring)
http://pastebin.com/hrh2MA98
I think you may want to post it in a specific stock based rom thread so that the developer of that particular rom can look at it and attempt a fix
it persists across all stock based including lgnpst flashes. I tried the nexus 4 fix just in case but that didn't help. it must be a software problem because every aosp ROM I've tried works flawlessly. its quite frustrating

Games closing itself

As the title says, my games are closing itself after some time. This is happening for about 4 months now. I tried flashing few different ROMs (I did hard-reset each time, completely wiping internal storage), and tried flashing few different kernels, but the problem still appears. It's not issue with RAM because I'm monitoring RAM when it happens, it always has ~100MB free.
I'm currently running Resurrection Remix LP v5.5.9 ROM with ArchiKernel v3.0.31. I don't know anymore what may cause the problem, I tried everything to fix it, but it still appears. Problem wasn't appearing before, but now it is in almost every game. Every other app or while outside the games, everything works smoothly like fresh factory reset was performed. I don't have much apps running in background and I don't run any optimisation apps (like RAM cleaner or app killer in background). Thanks in advance!

Classic Oom behaviour. Even though you think it isnt ram related you'll probably find oom errors in logcat.
S3 i9300 doesn't cope with any os higher than jellybean. Hence why samsung never issued one.
If you encounter these issues on a jellybean rom then the rom is rubbish.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.
