I'm currently on the latest nightly for cm12 (18th Feb) and I can't seem to find a setting to change the default launcher and I'm just stuck with trebuchet. On my nexus 5 there is a home setting under personalisation. Am I missing something or has this functionality not been implemented on the nexus 9 yet?

Hi, qwerty2626...
It shouldn't be too difficult to change the default launcher.... All you have to do is clear the default setting.
Go to SETTINGS>>APPS>>
** scroll horizontally to the ALL TAB
** scroll down to locate the TREBUCHET launcher
** tap on it to ENTER
** tap on the CLEAR DEFAULTS button
Press the HOME button, and you should be presented with a list of all your installed launchers.
Select the one you want to make the new default.
See attached screenshots, for an example of clearing Nova Launcher as the default launcher.
---
Or alternatively, install Default App Manager Lite, from Google PlayStore...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appiator.defaultappmanager
This app lists all of your app default settings, and provides an easy way of changing them.
Hope this helps.

Since when is Trebuncha(sp?) back? I litterly just left cm12 on the nexus 6 to try another rom and the only launcher that was installed on there before I put on nova as just the native launcher that motorola use. Its just called launcher.

Hi, the_rooter...
I have no idea if Trebuchet is back or not... I'm not running CM12... I was just giving some general guidance to the OP on how the default launcher can be changed. And since the OP mentioned Trebuchet, I just assumed it was still part of CM.

I dont think it is. Thats one of the main reasons I only test cm12 to see if they bring it back. Trebuchet has so many great features and now they use the launcher apk and its empty. Like we stated nothing that a custom launcher can do but still. Its sad to see that Trebuchet is not around.
Edit: Below is the article to state that it was in fact removed from cm12.

I've tried to do this and when I go into the app details there are no defaults on the launcher or at least None that can be cleared, even the app you posted can't do it either. I guess cyanogenmod did this on purpose for whatever reason so I guess I'll just have to wait and see if they implement a way to change it. As for trebuchet taking another look I don't think it is, just assumed it was after using cyanogenmod for so long!

Does anyone know how to clear the defaults for TWlauncher/Touchwiz Launcher? I have Launcher Pro installed but I accidentally selected TWlauncher as my default. I went to SETTINGS/APPLICATIONS/MANAGE APPLICATIONS but Touchwiz Launcher/TWlauncher isn't listed to remove the default.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Delete launcher Pro and download again, the option to make Launcher Pro your default launcher should pop up again.
You can also download a DIFFERENT launcher to force the window to show again if you don't want to remove Launcher Pro.
Much easier way
From home, menu -> settings -> applications -> manage applications
Now you may need to hit menu -> filter and select All if you are using the stock launcher (i.e. touchwiz).
Find the current launcher, Look for the section "Launch by default" and select "Clear defaults". The next time you hit home it will prompt you to select a default again.
Edit: if touchwiz is the default now, you are looking forTwLauncher

Yeah! This works. I don't know why I didn't think of it myself. Thanks a lot.

did you set the filter to "All"?
you have to do what he said and hit menu>filter>all
they will all show up including twlauncher
That actually works for anytime you are asked to select an application to open something, i.e. a browser or for viewing youtube.
I downloaded adw launcher but i selected SE theme as default in order to experiment with adw later. But now i can't find adw launcher anywhere to activate it. And in the market i can't open it, it only says i downloaded it.
can anyone tell me where to go to open adw launcher?
you have to delete the cache or something from the default launcher (in app menu)
or you install the app "Home Switcher"
In case you still haven´t found the ADW Launcher, you have to clear the defaults in settings - applications - manage applications - home screen. After when you press the home button you will be asked what screen you´d like to use.

OK so the recent AOKP an (from what I hear) CM9 builds don't have the options to change the trebuchet launcher preferences.
Now I haven't researched why this has changed but I found a quick workaround.
0.) Need to have the Nova launcher installed
1.) Go into your Widgets set the "Activities" widget from nova on to your screen
2.) Scroll down an select Trebuchet then select Preferences.
3.) Click the new Preferences icon an there ya go

Nice workaround - i feel like i'm the only one in this boat as it seems like noone uses trebuchet anymore
I still like it, nice and simple - also has the fade effect when scrolling screens that other launchers don't have
Why not just use Apex ?

Its simple and has the basic options you want a launcher to have auto-rotate,multiple animations, force resize.... I mean really wtf else do you need.
I've stuck with it because I flash like a crack head multiple times a day so the simpler the configuration the better.
I believe I might have an actual fix but I'm mobile an I'll need my lab top... an ya I googled forever an had no luck... kinda like I'm having finding a good example of the pegasusq parameters...

Try this version and let me know if it works. (I'm on CM7.2 so I can't exactly test it out at the moment). It should have the following available when you press menu:
"Wallpaper"
"Manage apps"
"Trebuchet settings
"System settings"
I am like you, I don't care about all the fancy bull**** that nova, apex, and all the other AOSP 4.0 based launchers have. Trebuchet is perfect for me.
Try it out.

Simple install: push to /system/app either with adb or your file explorer of choice chmod 644 if in adb or make the permissions: rw-r-r
Reboot.

Is the menu list in the trebuchet app ? I was going to add the settings option back into the menu when we had this issue on task's AOKP but he fixed the issue since then. although things may have reverted in build 40, im currently in the middle of flashing it.
Just FYI, good old Any Cut also works if you don't want to install a whole other launcher just for the one widget. Add the Any Cut widget, then select Activity, then Preferences.
Also, Any Cut shortcuts can be placed inside folders, unlike regular widgets.
For a laugh, try making a shortcut to the "rocket launcher" activity - not exactly practical, but kind of fun

Pretty much what happens is, I download it at the play store, and open the launcher. It works fine, but when I push the home button, it goes back to the stock launcher. Every time, I try to set a launcher as the default one, my screen just kind of jumps from the bottom up, and nothing happens. For the Google Now launcher, It gives me the prompt to either cancel, or go into settings. After selecting settings, it does the weird jump again. Kind of getting annoyed, since the stock Emui launcher doesn't have an app drawer. I tired it rooted, and unrooted. I do not have busybox installed, so I'm stumped. Is there hidden settings somewhere to change the default home launcher? I can't find it unlike the previous version. Maybe someone who has had the same problem as me, can shed some light into this problem. Thank you.
goto settings>apps
then click on 'advanced'.
there you can find default app settings, click on it and select launcher and set your desired launcher as default.
and dont forget to add that launcher in protected apps

I got my Pixel 6 Pro yesterday and opened it up today and a few things initially that are driving me crazy. I cant change the app drawer to 4x5 or 5x5 or the home screen. I found how but the options are not there. Also, how do I get rid of the massive clock on the lock screen to show a normal clock?
Hi @GrandMstrBud
You can change to 5x5 home app grid by
long pressing the screen,
select 'Wallpaper and Style',
scroll down and select App Grid - to select your choice
Just to confirm I have the Pixel 6 (non pro)

Sorry - that is weird...I just assumed 6 and 6 Pro would have the same basic features...
If you transferred your stuff from another phone it may have bugged out and need to clear cache/data to fix the problem.

The only fix for this for now is to have a persistent notification running. That will reduce the clock size and move the clock to the upper left corner. I use Today Weather for that. The Persistent Notifications app works too.
Hopefully Google will add the option to resize the lockscreen clock in a future update. I hate it too.

Apparently there are some new Tasker projects that tackle this "issue". You can read more about it here: https://www.xda-developers.com/tasker-can-help-you-change-the-size-of-android-12s-aod-clock/

Myself and my uncle had the same issues with our P6P. The option to change the grid didnt show up. We discovered that for some reason Nova launcher was messing with this option. Deleting Nova from the phone and rebooting and this option should appear. Not sure why this is happening with Nova installed.

Strange, I do have the option. It's not just that you didn't scroll down?
When I got the Pixel 6, that option wasn't there either. I checked again the next day and only then did I find it. I think I started the device once in between.
Edit:
As mentioned before: I had Nova installed on an other device, which was transferred to Pixel 6. Maybe I fixed it with deleting Nova.
Maybe I got it after the november update was installed.
I don't have/cannot find the NFC quick settings switch....
