I'm located in India where the Wifi-only 32GB Nexus 9 model is not available. The choice is either 32GB/LTE or 15GB/Wifi-only. I don't really want to pay extra for LTE which I don't plan to use. I'm wondering how the storage is partitioned on the 16GB model. I'm not planning to put too much in the way of videos and other media on the tablet (I'll use some Wifi connected storage device for media). I've got a Galaxy S2 with 16GB that has its storage partitioned such that while there is plenty of storage free the space for applications is filled up. Will I suffer from this with a 16GB variant of the Nexus 9?

I had a N7 2012 that was 16 gig and only time I ever filled up the storage was when I had a bunch of ROMs stored. Why I got the 16 gig N9 I couldn't see in spending that much for 16 gig of more storage. If I need more storage I can use an otg cable and connect an USB memory stick but over all 16 gig has served me well and I had the same concerns of would 16 gigs be enough when I was first looking at getting s tablet.

It depends on what you do with you tablet, knowing that if you already have music on Google Play Music you don't have to store it on the memory (i.e, works too with Drive etc.). Same for videos, where you can keep on using wifi local connection with your PC or NAS.
So unless you install 6 big games of 1+ GB or memory use, 16GB (actually 11,5 GB free) will be all enough, no need for more !

My 16Gb WiFi-only Nexus 9 has about 11Gb of user space available... for user installed apps (games, utilities, widgets, tools, etc.) and content (documents, images, videos, music, etc.)

On all of my Android devices, I tend to keep content (music, pics, documents, videos) stored either on a cloud based service (Box, DropBox, Google Drive, etc) or on an SD Card (as on my HTC One M8 phone). Obviously the SD Card isn't an option for the Nexus 9, as it doesn't have SD Card support. This frees up internal storage for the installation of apps... And also, because I do a lot of tinkering on my N9, I like to keep backups of software (eg. Titanium, NANDROIDs, etc) and they can consume a fair chunk of space!!!
Anyhow, I guess if you're not planning on using LTE, it does seem like a lot to pay for a feature you're not likely to use.

One option, if you're looking for more (local) storage is to investigate something called OTG (On-the-Go) cables.
I remember reading about these a couple of years ago, when I got my original Nexus 7. It wasn't something I ever followed through, 'cos I had no need of of one. But essentially, and as I understand it, an OTG cable is a cable that you can connect a USB memory stick to the Nexus device via it's USB port. You'll also need software installed on the Nexus 9 to support it... I vaguely recall something called Nexus Media Importer being talked about at the time, as it didn't require the Nexus to be rooted..

Hello everyone.
After reading lots of reviews and opinions and having the oportunity to use the tablet, im sure i want to buy a Sony Tablet S
Now comes the second decission to make.. ¿Which model? As the title of the post says, im between 32Gb or 16Gb+3G.
I know that whatever the model is, the space for installing apps are the 4GB partition and i think the apps that allow moving to Sd card, in this tablet means moving to the second partition but never to the external sdcard. So... Do you think the 4GB are enough for all kind of apps and games?
About the 3G conexion, thats something i will use mainly during travels. Instead of creating the hotspot with my mobile (and draining its battery), i'll change the SIM card to the tablet. Another option is buying a prepaid SIM with some data-plan to just use with the tablet during those travels, and when i dont have available wifi's.
A requirement would be to have access to music in the external sdcard, but allowing to reproduce a full album. I have the movies part resolved with the MxPlayer, but dont know any beauty music app which allow to do that
Well, any opinion or advice are welcome, so dont hesitate to post it !

I'd go with PowerAMP, it works beautiful. Might use WinAMP as well.
But I prefer PowerAMP myself. It can access the external sd-card without problems.

I suppose that you'll bring it around to work or travel, thus with 3G is a better option. And you can buy SD card for more storage and even cheaper.

I'd go for the 16GB+3G if the difference is that little, then get yourself a nice SDXC 128GB sd-card and space won't be much of a problem. At least not external. However internal might be eaten after a while if you install to many apps hehe.
Yes I know PowerAMP cost a few $$$ but it's worth it. WinAMP cost too. THough both exist as free-versions for you to try. So you can get the feel for it.
I'd go with the 16GB+3G too. I miss the 3G from my old Galaxy Tab since I got a Wi-Fi version and with full-size SD card and USB storage capabilities, storage isn't a huge problem unless you install stupendous amounts of apps.

The usage of the tablet is not going to be for work, but i'll bring it in my own travels where i wont have available a 3G network since the cost of using it in other countries are so expensive
I also found a nice music player (Meridian player), which allow to reproduce lists from the external sdcard, so with MxPlayer and Meridian i got covered the multimedia part.
Im also planning to use the tablet for playing games from psn, gameloft and emulators, so what bothers me is that the 16GB version only have around 8.5GB in the usb storage and im quite sure that all this kind of games cant be installed in the external sd.
How much space does this games take up in the usb storage? I know that having 3G is a great option, but im almost deciding on the 32 version just for this reason

Most of the gameloft games I've seen have been about 250MB worth of SD card data (maximum, although there's been reports of them taking up to 1GB), so you'd still be able to fit plenty of stuff on there. If you're that worried about it, sure, get the 32GB, but I think it's more about how you're going to use it.
I myself went with the 16GB as I already have an additional 16GB SD Card.
I have a MP3 player that I keep most of my music on, I mostly keep movies on my tablet.

Same here. I bought the 16GB version, since I already have 16GB and 8GB SD cards handy. Plus, once I bought my USB OTG cable I just keep movies on a 16GB USB and transfer them to the SD card one at a a time. Works a treat for me.

That's cause the only ones available on the Tablet S are worthless P.O.S. compared to the ones unavailable.
Games such as backstab HD, NOVA 2HD, Modern combat 2 and 3, 9mm etc have pretty much 600mb minimum.
w/ full sized SD cards available, 32gb isn't necessary at all as we've confirmed up to 128Gb SDXC cards working.
16Gb is more than enough for app / games storage (how many 1Gb games do you play?) in my opinon, but of course consider your own usage scenario
I've been wondering which GS3 to buy, the 16gb or 32gb model? I would usually go with the 16gb as there's the option of using an external sd card anyway, however, the phone performance is better with apps installed on internal memory and also there are still apps in the market that don't get transferred to the sd card. Another concern is the size of apps that keep growing everyday (I think now min. is 4gb) such as amazing games launched recently (e.g. Nova 3) and since this is a beast of a phone, and I'm planning to keep it for the next 2 yrs, I was wondering if 16gb would suffice?!!

16Gb is more than enough for just apps, plus you get up to 64Gb extra for external storage. Also, you can only get the 32Gb version in the UK if your on Vodafone, otherwise you have to wait a month.

I have a bad feeling that 64gb is a myth.. Even if its not, most likely its in aug or sept.
As I got it, 32GB version will be available in UK from Vodafone only, for a month. Other countries do not fall into that.

Never really bothered me about internal storage if there is a Micro SD slot and that basically gives you infinite storage. Though personally I never filled up my GS2 storage of 16GB, I don't keep useless albums and just pick my songs so I only had like 2GB of songs. I find apps on the Android market to be really poor compared to what is on IOS so I barely played any games. When I do play games I just realise how **** the touch screen is for control and want proper buttons lol. With dropbox giving me 50GB free and having unlimited data on 3 I just put all my pirated Windows software on there lol.
I really don't care, I'm happy with the 16GB. Enough for apps.
As for movies/music/pictures, that's what I'm buying a 32GB Micro SDHC for. q
with the amount of flashing I do the 16gb one is fine for me as I only store my things on the external sd card

You cannot increase internal storage by MicroSD. You will just add one more storage. But since most applications know only about one storage, they will continue use only internal storage. All games put their caches to /sdcard which is internal storage.
of course, it's still possible to hack games and change path /sdcard to /sdcard/external_sd. Some hacks allow to swap internal and external storages permanently.
This is android, and many tweaks possible. But if you plan to use phone as just regular user then you should know that internal storage won't be extended by adding MicroSD.
Actually, I use MicroSD in my SGSII just for media such as photos (made by SGSII camera), video, music. All applications related files are on internal storage. In this scenario, 16gb of internal storage for me is not enough, so i bought 32gb version. And i can easily swap microsd without loosing functionality, since all data are in internal.
A Galaxy S3 16GB is £500, the Galaxy S3 32GB is mostly going to be around £600.
You may as well go to Amazon and purchase the 64gb micro sd card from Sandisk class 10 for £55 and have 80GB. I mean seriously, 80GB is enough to be fair.
I guess the real question is how much faster is the nand/internal storage Vs Sandisk MicroSDXC?
Would the difference actually be noticeable in day to day use as a non dev
I don't mean off the cuff comments like its faster etc
I would like to see actual facts & figures.
I am going to buy 32GB version for storing Apps, games, videos and lots other things. Then after buying phone if i buy 16gb version, I feel annoying if i need more capacity, buying a memory card putting it in my phone. Its better to have 32gb version.

Actually performance on my SGS2 was better with my class 4 32gb Sandisk Card than the internal storage.
16gb is more than enough for apps,
Its more than suitable for the next 2 years

I have a 64GB SDXC on the way from Hong Kong. I have preordered the SGS3 16GB version.
80GB will be enough for me since I don't use my phone to listen to music. I listen to music all the time, so I want to have a dedicated player for that. And I really love the sound quality of my rockboxed Sansa Clip Zip. For mega-ultra-super emergencies (mp3 player battery empty) I have a Subsonic music server setup so I can stream my music from my HTPC at home which is turned on 24/7, so that's my failsafe.
internal storage
I nearly bought a 16G one today, but then held my temptation as I wasn't sure about the requirements for this bigger phone. Some are right that apps are getting bigger and bigger. On the other hand I keep all the media on the card. On my s2 half of int storage is still free after a year, so unless someone advices that with this kind of usage and for apps etc 16G is not enough ; I guess I should go for the 16G. Any comments folks?

13.05 gb total space available. That is what mine shows. Not really bad at all, not like I thought it would be. I have couple play movie rentals downloaded, 112 apps installed as well as a few dozen songs on the nexus 10. Only 2.6gb used, still have 80 percent left (10+ gb) . Also ordered a micro OTG USB cable so I can use USB stick/sd card for extra storage (no need to root for photo, video or music streaming if you use nexus media importer)

Wow glad I got a 32gb.. I have 11gb left and for WHAT? No music yet, well other then the free google gives you. no movies..Apps and 2-3 games. Must me BIG games and APPS! hehe

I would not recommend getting 16gb. My note 10.1 is 16gb and I have a 64gb and its not enough space. I can't keep all my games saved on my tab at once. I keep all my media saved on my sd card and only save game files on my system.

Mine was a Christmas gift, so I can have nothing to complain about. If I had the choice, I would have got the 32gb as well.. But after filling my tab2-7 int space and a 32gb sd card, I don't think that would be enough space either. But besides the usb memory stick ad on (got my cable from Korea today, works great!!!) there is the option of cloud storage. One service giving you 50gb free now!
That's the one thing about the large nexus 10.....You will more than likely be using it around the house and a wifi signal. Plenty of room for movies and music now! We only need an app that will allow us to install and RUN apps from cloud services.
If you are going to allow multiple users on the n10,then you must get the larger one.... But that probably won't be enough if one of the users is a gamer (grin) just such a large price difference for 16gb....Although I did once pay that for 1mb on my first IBM XT 16mhz system... 1mb simm chip, not gb! (gotta love this tablet!)

Hey Guys, I was able to pickup the nexus 9 16 GB from htc hot deals but have not opened it... I am worried it will be too small and I was planning on selling it off but am not sure what to do.
What are your thoughts? If I get USB-OTG device w/ a big SD card and load TVs/Movies on there will I be ok...?

It will be ok, but its kinda weird to have a usb dongle hanging out of your tablet... I personally wouldn't swap it for another tablet, as it really kicks a$$, but 32GB is way more convenient
If you got one of the HTC hot deals, I would use it at 16 GB. I debated and eventually just bought the 32 GB. I hated to spend an extra $80 on what amounts to a couple dollars worth of silicon, but I got enough of a discount on the tablet that I ended up spending the extra $.
I've had a 16GB Moto X for a while now, and I here is what I do. Store most of my music in the "cloud" and only pin albums to my device that I'll want to listen to when in remote areas w/o connectivity. With a tablet, this option depends on how much connectivity you have (cell tether, wifi, etc...). It just takes a little planning to make sure the audio files you want are on your device before leaving wifi.
For video, I use OTG. But OTG didn't work for me out of the box on the N9. I'm sure CF's Stickmount will do the trick or you could probably modify your platform.xml to get OTG to work with something like a Meenova (much smaller than a dongle and regular thumb drive). I haven't tried either option yet as I need to swap my N9 out (hardware issues). Do a little searching out here and see what others are doing for OTG (and both options require root).
Bottom line: for the $200 deal, you can't go wrong.
Dude... if 16GB is to small then so is 32GB...
Its not like all of a sudden you can keep hundreds of bluerays on there or something...
I am just as mad as everyone else with this price gouging on space and yeah if you had 128GB plus.... it would be useful but 16 to 32... just doesn't really make a difference.
Hi there, for OTG ES file explorer does the trick on stock (you just need to find your USB storage in the file directory), unrooted, as does Nexus Media Importer.
can you install apps and stuff on on expandable storage in 5.0 lollipop?

Lets not forget that the Nexus line of tablets do not ship with SD Card support and do not permit mounting storage devices via USB OTG Cables so you are pretty much stuck with the storage on the device.If you are willing to root, you can enable mounting of storage. CloudStorage and WiFi Storage solutions are your best bet to expand the storage.

AndroidPolice says they confirmed with several Google sources that, despite the FCC documents, neither of the new Nexus devices will support microSD
I rather have a lot of internal storage over MicroSD. MicroSD support in Android is terrible and doesn't work most time + it's slow.

Supposedly in the developer builds of Android M, USB OTG is fully supported. Whether that makes it into the OTA on Oct 5th remains to be seen.
Looks like 64 will be $50 more than 32, and 128 will be $150 more than 32. So $50 extra for each 32GB of storage.
Lack of microSD is a show stopper for me. I think more and more people are porting files/media from device to device using external microSD storage. Yes, it's slower, but plenty fast enough for media playback and for general storage.
I'm currently rocking a Sandisk 200GB microSD in my Galaxy S5.
