GCM push for greenified apps, and Hangouts - Greenify

Since rooting my Z3c and installing Greenify with Donate and the Xposed plugin, I am finding that I am getting status bar notifications for Hangouts even when the app is in the foreground, and the message is from the person I have hangouts open to.
This behavior stops if I untick "GCM push for greenified apps" in settings. I was blaming all other Xposed modules before I come to finding this by trial and error.
Anyone else experience this?

After getting a notification, if greenify hibernate the app, the notifications remains there.

As mentioned in my OP, it is occurring even when Hangouts is in the foreground, screen on, in the middle of a conversation with someone.

You get notifications for new messages? What android version are you using?

4.4.4
Is this not a side effect of having GCM push for greenified apps on? Just an annoyance but is distracting getting notifications popping up on my status bar telling me there is a hangouts message from the person I am chatting to on the screen at that very moment

In the facebook application, hit Menu -> Settings -> and look in Notification settings.
It should say "Notifications: Active" hit the checkbox next to it to turn it off
He's talking about the messenger app, not the facebook app itself.
So far as I know there is no way to turn off the notifications in the messenger app itself. I might make more sense to just uninstall it seeing as the normal facebook app lets you use chat when you want to anyway.
No I'm talking about just the Facebook App lol in it u can disable all the notifications individually besides the messaging one

Yeah, I'm having the same issue with the Facebook app for Android. It seems that you are only allowed to disable message notifications for a certain amount of time before it automatically re-enables itself. Pretty annoying, especially since I am using a messenger-aggregator app that gives me notifications for Facebook messages too. Any help would be really appreciated
So any option to disable chat notification forever? I only get them de-activated for 8 hours every time
hi we are just talking about facebook message notifications not all notifications, im looking for this one also....
is really stupid that you cant disable this.... what is the use of disable this for 8hours???
And you don't want to just get rid of the app?

what about log out from this app
It seems like any other notification can be disabled permanently but the messages one. Very stupid and extremely annoying indeed!

This works for me. I hate the msg app as well but like other notifications. Did this for each person I talk to. And it stays off perm after doing this for each user.

I'm having the same problem. I don't want to uninstall the app, or turn off all notifications, because I'd like to still get notifications on wall posts and comments.
As others have stated, I also use a messenger that puts gtalk and facebook together, and it's just annoying to receive double notifications for facebook messages.
It seems people are misunderstanding what is being asked.
Facebook has a great deal many different features and gives notifications for each individually. Notifications of new posts are separate from notifications of new comments are separate from notifications of new messages etc.
We all want to get Facebook notifications *except* for messages. We want to be notified when a friend posts to their wall or comments on a post we are involved in. We do not want to be notified when some one messages on Facebook... or rather... do not want to be notified twice.
Both the Facebook app and the Facebook messenger app will not let you turn message notifications off. You can turn every other notification off individually or you can turn off all notifications completely... but when you disable just the one for messages in either app it tells you when it's going to turn it back on. We want it off permanently without losing our other notifications.

Not receiving notifications of hibernated GCM apps

I've got xposed and supposedly enabled all the right options in the "experimental functions" menu along with enabled greenify in accesibility etc. But when apps are hibernated I simply do not receive their notifications.
Im on xperia 5.1.1 rom

Simply because there is a cloud symbol by the side of the App name, we can not presume that it uses GCM for Notifications. During hibernation, only notifications of Apps which use GCM will be allowed.
So check the Apps you hibernated to see whether they actually use GCM.

I've used Greenify since 2013. It's a very recent issue. It is indeed apps with GCM, Telegram, Hangouts, Snapchat, Skype et cetera.
Should mention it's a clean install of Android and it also happened on another ROM I tried the other day. Can't really pinpoint the reason.

Messenger and notifications

Hello all,
I have one problem. I dont to get notifications from facebook messenger (beta), but Greenify decides that I won't. I have disabled greenify for it. I have root, Xposed module installed and I enabled Low hibernation which might enable push GCM but if I turn it off, turn on that second, more powerful hibernaton mode, it doesn't do anything. Even I have bought donation package but I still cannot get notifications from it.
This is the only app which is problematic. Whatsapp etc. works like a charm.
Would you help me please?

The advice of the Dev is, not to greenify the IM type apps if you rely on them.
I had canceled messenger from being greenified and then I restarted apps. Then it starts to push notifications.
Anyway, thank you.

Problems with notifications on S9+

So i own 2 businesses and its VERY important I get my Ebay app notifications, Paypal app Notifications, and Gmail notifications, as fast as possible. 24/7. No delay. No Sleep mode. No Hibernation. I want the messages to come through just like a phone call or text.
I smart switched my S8+ over to my S9+. I wanted to make sure I had the S9 + set up and settings exactly before I activated it. So I thought i had the S9+ setup and working just fine on my WIFI. So my S9+ is up and running on my Wifi.
However, I have noticed that when the S9+ screen is off for extended period of time....I DO NOT GET MY GMAIL EMAILS or my EBAY or paypal NOTIFICATIONS until I pickup the phone and turn the screen on. Its like its in some type of sleep mode, do not disturb mode, or hibernation mode even though its not set up like that. This is absolutely frustrating. I need to be able to respond to my customers instantly and as fast as possible otherwise it can cost me sales.
-Do not disturb mode is off
-I added gmail paypal and ebay to the list of apps that should be allowed to use battery all the time with no sleep
-I have notifications set as high importance in all apps and in notifications
Any help or suggestions????
I dont want to have to physically turn my phone screen on to be able to see these important notifications.
thanks
It is Android Doze at mischief. First make sure that the phone is not actively putting those apps to sleep.
Device Maintenance > Battery > Unmonitored apps / Always sleeping apps (scroll down to bottom)
Make sure that those apps are not under "Always sleeping apps." If that does not fix, put those apps to "Unmonitored apps."
Also make sure that each apps are set to receive notification in timely manner.
Open Email, go to settings. It's the gear icon at the top when you swipe from the left in the Email app.
1. Make sure Notification is checked on the first page.
2. Go to individual email accounts.
3. Check the "Sync Settings," and make sure the sync setting is set to "Auto (when received)."
Go to phone's Settings > Apps. Find each apps (eBay, PayPal, etc.) and click on them. You will see "App Info" that tells you how much mobile data, battery, storage the apps consume. Go below to find "App Settings." Click on "Notifications," and make sure that things are correctly checked.

I have done all that (except for using the basic email app) . As mentioned above. But it does not fix the issue.
I just want to use the GMAIL app for my Email. I don't want to use the phone Email app.
It does not allow you to add Gmail to the list of unmonitered battery apps I noticed too. But Ebay paypal and my other messaging apps are defiantly on there.
I don't have my Gmail synced to the stock email on my S8+ and my emails still come through with Gmail notifications instantly.
Any other suggestions???
Notification Issues.
There are definitely problems with the notification system on the S9. I've spent a couple of hours on the phone with Samsung Support and they have been unable to fix it. Hoping to get a software update that fixes it.

Yeah I spent an hour with Sprint tech support . They say it shouldn't be doing this. They have no idea why its doing it. They even did remote view to check all the settings. Let me know if you figure it out.
Should of expected this.
Anybody else?
What about msgs (SMS, MMS, IM), are they coming through timely?

Its not activated so I haven't gotten any text. Just working with it right off Wifi.
So Snapchat seemed to work
Now Ebay is working sporadically
Paypal still wont notify unless the screen is on
Gmail. sporadically too
I also was having intermediate problems with notifications. It seems once I disabled the "easy mute" option in advanced features, I'm getting notifications instantly now. Might be worth a shot to try.

So strange and frustrating

Do you also have the setting in gmail to notify you for every email? Inside gmail settings, click your email, then under the notifications section click "inbox notifications" then make sure "notify for every message" is checked.

Ok, I see that but I noticed its not set up on my S8+ like that. That way I don't get bugged every 2 seconds with the promotional and social messages. Just notifies for all primary messages.
I'm also noticing some problems with notifications from my home security app, all Runtastic Pro apps and notification strip from Mi Home app. Is it Oreo related or is it a specific problem with Galaxy S9?
Received a text this morning on my Gear S3 with the default Messages app. Cleared the notification from my watch which would normally also clear the notification on the phone. Over 5 min later receive the same text on my S9+ also on the default messages app. There seems to be a fairly decent delay in the default sms app on the phone. S9+ is unlocked on Verizon. Gear S3 is Verizon version but I use it as Bluetooth/Wifi only so not connected to 4g network directly.
My S9+ is on Telus. I had to stop using the Samsung messages app a month or so after I got the phone. I stopped getting notifications. It'll buzz and light up but that's it. The icon doesn't have the notification badge (and I have it turned on in settings). I have it set to show a message preview but that doesn't show either. Facebook and Instagram notifications work about the same. It buzzes but that's it. Snapchat sometimes has the notification badge on the icon. The Samsung email app has to be set for notification of every email to show the icon badge.
---------- Post added at 04:22 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:40 AM ----------
The preview is working by turning it on and off and if my screen is on, the notification badge flickers very quickly when the message preview and edge lighting pop up....
For what its worth, if you're using a custom launcher like Nova, then you need to provide additional permissions (ex: Tesla Settings in case of Nova) for the Gmail app & other apps.
Also, you could try- 1) Reset app preferences from the app settings, 2) Remove Gmail cache & data and add your accounts again and 3) clear cache from recovery.
I had this problem, tried every solution mentioned here and elsewhere and ultimately discovered that the Data Saver settings were preventing my email app from checking for notifications. Once I exempted my email app, it began receiving notifications and the notification reminder was working fine.
Settings > Connections Data saver > Allow app while Data saver on
Every time I sat down at home to fix the issue, I'd uninstall a suspect app and notifications would work. Then I'd head out to work and they wouldn't work. Turns out the data saver only comes on away from my home wifi, naturally. This is why it was seemingly "fixed" by everything I tried at home.

Stock un-uninstallable apps hibernated without showing them on hibernation list

On a stock unrooted LG G4 (H812) on Marshmallow, phone came with Hangouts/Gmail which can't be uninstalled (can only be disabled)
Greenify hibernates them without showing them on the Greenify list, meaning I can't degreenify them and, as a result, my phone doesn't ring with incoming Hangouts calls/vibrate with incoming emails
What can I do to fix this
Even pressing the three dots up right corner - "show all"?!
And look for, maybe there is some white list.

Not come across such a scenario before. How are you sure that the apps are hibernated if they don't show up on the "Hibernated" list?
To my knowledge, Greenify doesn't hibernate any app automatically without you choosing the apps. And there is no hide list in Greenify, meaning any app that is hibernated has to show up in the list.

I know they're hibernated because they work when Greenify is uninstalled with all else equal
I discovered Brevent, and thru it I found out that they are considered System apps and that's why I couldn't see them on Greenify (Greenify requires pro version to be purchased in order to see/hibernate system apps; Brevent is free)
In any case, Brevent is working and problem solved; I receive calls and email notifications again ─ sucks that I had to let Greenify go but oh wells
