[Q] How to unhide the hidden system-provided Contacts app? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!
I use Paranoid Android 4.6-BETA6 (Android 4.4.4) with GAPPS.
The system provided Contacts app is appearing under Settings -> Apps > All
However, it is invisible to any other program (Nova, Google Now Launcher, SD Maid...)
How can I unhide it? Any tip? The regular help I get when googling does not work (like "Open app drawer, hit menu then scroll down past hide applications and you will find show hidden applications").
I'd be eternally grateful.
Thanks in advance.
PS: I don't mind if I have to manually edit a file through the Linux command line.

Sir, probably it's me but I don't get/understand it!? What do you mean with "Shortcuts to manila"?
- Manila files are image files. Do you wont to skin manila files
and you don't know how to start?
- Do you will personalize the shortcuts? the one you see in the start window and on the manila home screen?
Maybe you can give some more information, it will be easily.
You need a .lnk in your start menu to the program. I use sashimi to copy .lnks to programs (not requiring registry information) installed on the storage card to /windows/start menu/programs. You can also just do this manually. Once the .lnk is there, you can add the program to the quicklink on the hometab.
I use Resco Explorer. Browse to SD -> Program folder > Select and long press the program you want > Send to > Start Menu as Shortcut
Then, go to Home tab, select an empty quicklink and select the program

Once rooted... where is the settings for "Uknown Sources"

I am already rooted and everything is fine. Have the Android Market and so forth already running. What I am trying to figure out is where in settings was the options to use Unknown Sources and Debugging. Can't seem to find it anywhere. Is it not accessible even after rooted? Is there an app that lets you get into those options?
Also on another note. Where does anything downloaded for an app store or other files go to. On my Galaxy Tab there is a folder on the root SD called downloads. There is nothing like that here on the Nook. I downloaded Getjar but didn't install it. Can't seem to find where the apk is now to install it.
Go to your Applications and click on tgps_launcher and hit Start.
Everything you want is there.
I must be completely dense today. What is tgps_launcher?
It pretty much brings up the hidden development settings.
When you rooted, you put it on your NT to enable USB debugging, unknown sources, etc.
I don't see anything called that at all. No app at least that I can see. You sure it is on my Nook now. I used the below way to root on my mac...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19592179&postcount=1
and gave me the following apps...
1) Go Launcher Ex (Rooted App Launch/Desktop)
2) Market Place (The Android "App Store")
3) Button Savior (adds tiny button on right of screen for nagivation home/back etc)
4) Home Catcher (makes 2 clicks of the Nook N bring up the new Launcher)
5) Nook Color App Menu (allows you to install sideloaded apps to the Nook home screen/Library)
6) Dolphin HD Browser (Replacement web browser)
Go to Indirect's thread on rooting and DL the tgps_launcher.apk there.
Then hit the "n" button, touch search, type in "tgps", you should be able to see it and launch it right out of the search results. Once it has launched, touch "start" and you will be at the menu you want.
ETA: Here is a link to Indirect's thread. Find this bit
Code:
here is an app to pull up usb debugging menu
http://li362-167.members.linode.com/...s_launcher.apk
and DL that file right onto your Nook.
Look for Appmenu - this will take you to menu settings where you'll see development, etc.
- AppMenu
- Open Application Settings
- check Unknown Sources
- Development - check USB Debugging, etc

Is Appmenu an actual app in the app store or something within settings?

I don't have mine in front of me at the moment, but it's not on the SDCard. It's under My Files/Downloads somewhere in the B&N data folders in the actual tablet storage. Just don't remember where exactly off the top of my head without looking at it.
If you have a launcher installed look to see if you already have it, otherwise:
AppMenu (previously thps_launch) (thanks to lionclaw) - http://suipre.com/a68291

Thanks everyone for your responses and help. Greatly appreciated.
Now that I got a chance to look, actual location for downloads is media/My Files/My Downloads in the root directory of the tablet.

Does anyone know where the "Selector Icon" setting is stored on the system? I tried "settings list <system|global|secure>" but didn't find it.

Droid DNA File Manager? If No How to Install One?

Hi
Recently inherited a Droid DNA that would like to use only for Audio & Video (No phone, Internet...)
Looked for a file manager app. Did not find any. Downloaded the man http://cache.vzw.com/multimedia/mim/htc-dna/HTC-DNA-UM.pdf and did quick search also nothing.
Is there a hidden file manager? If not appreciate suggestions how to install one.
Have access to a Windows 7 PC but wonder if 1st need to install a HTC Droid DNA driver?
Thanks
Ken
Update
Searched and found Verizon User Guide for phone http://cache.vzw.com/multimedia/mim/htc-dna/HTC-DNA-UM.pdf
Read entire guide, no mention of a File Manager.
Decided to check App Manager (which should have done 1st) and under All found listed Android File Manager v5.5.24..... (408 KB) and enabled.
Am wondering why it did not show on Home Screen, so rechecked User Guide.
Found p87 "Adding apps and other shortcuts on your Home screen" and followed instructions "1. Go to Settings, and then tap Personalize. 2. Tap Customize home screen. 3. Tap > Apps or Shortcuts. You can: ยง Swipe to browse through the apps or shortcuts"
Somehow All Apps never opened (only Apps already on Home screen).
Then tried "Tap to search for specific apps or shortcuts" when did this No Keyboard opened...
Please tell me what I am doing wrong.
Will add, since the phone had many apps disabled when I got it, am wondering if some necessary files are disabled?
Thanks
Ken
