DOB1 firmware only file - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hello all.
I have made a firmware only file for the DOB1 version of software for those that want to upgrade with the mobile/pc odin way.
That way you can upgrade a knox 0 and keep knox 0 and root.
Just need to run mobile odin with the stock tar that is available and inject mobile odin and su
for reboot options have it go into download mode
then flash this firmware only file to complete the upgrade and then let it boot up.
Should be good to go.
Download the file from box here:
https://app.box.com/s/ihdqlrozzhyv2jmyqrhbcgkfvr27dl6b

Thought I've read in many places that lollipop doesn't work with mobile Odin.

What happens here is you dont get the full version of lollipop, so technically you are still on 4.4.4. You will still be on the kitkat kernel. Plus the possibility of errors and such.
I would just wait till the dev have a way to root the full version of lollipop.

The kernel is written though with aboot in the firmware only file that you flash with Odin no?

No the kernel is boot.img, which is missing from you file. mobile odin can flash this but it is not recommended, also there is a bunch of necessary files that are not able to be flashed with mobile odin. That is the reason i came up with a way to root without tripping knox. Have you tried your method yet? if you did can you post a screen shot of your about phone.

The best way to get it done efficiently is pc Odin back to official 4.4.2 then take a two updates that will be waiting in line the Volte update then the 993mb Lollipop OTA putting you on stock 5.0.
MOBIL ODIN will screw you up if you try to flash the download able update .
I tried to cheat and go the easy way by reflashing stock 3e recovery with cf auto then I tried to use wannam xposed security hack to Enable custom to officiall status .
After I uses mobile Odin to flash the file from samfirm I was stuck in a boot loop .
Finally just full tar Odin flashed back to 4.4.2 then took Ota.
4.4.2 cf auto will root 5.0 just for reference nothing changes

Wait...
You had steps for updating?
I didn't find any when I looked.
I haven't yet tried this on my device but a friend that has it said these were the steps he did and it worked. I uploaded firmware and radio file since I didn't find it here. I can also make one that is the boot img in it to flash in regular Odin. Mobile Odin only injects in system I believe.
Do you have a link to your dob1 steps?

Yeah i had steps for updating and rooting on kitkat not lollipop. I had gotten rid of my s5 2 days before lollipop came out. :crying: But a friend has the s5 and he tried to do your steps on his phone and said that it did not work and was getting errors and the kernel was still on 4.4, But he did say that after he pc odin back to stock and took the official lollipop update he was able to use cf auto root to root his device on lollipop. He unfortunately tripped knox doing it with cf auto root. I told him to wait and stop by my house so that i can test some methods that will root without tripping knox, but he couldnt wait and took the plunge. He also said that mobile odin crashed when he tried to use it with lollipop, lucky for him that when it crashed it did not mess his phone up.
The best bet here is to see if you can take the official update, use pc odin to flash ne6 kernel, then use towel root and then pc odin the stock 5.0 kernel back to see of you still have root and not trip knox..
Be careful when you try your method with the kernel added to your package and using mobile odin. Anything related to kernel can cause you to trip knox. I am still having my friend come over so that i can verify a couple of things before i update my thread on rooting.

Okay.
I have found a process for this that works perfectly.
At least on my device.
This is starting with a towelrooted NK2 version with knox 0x0
I went and downloaded the full DOB1 image from SamFirmware and copied that to the internal memory of the phone.
Then I installed mobile odin pro on the phone.
I then in mobile odin pro open the stock firmware from above and had it set to boot into download mode.
I flashed and let it open in download mode.
I then used Odin 3.09 to flash the firmware radio file with no reboot.
Then flashed the kernal in a seperate file.
Rebooted the phone into recovery to let it complete steps.
Then rebooted the phone normally.
Everything seems to have loaded up okay for me now.
Will try for a few days and report back. But is seems to have worked okay.

So you're rooted in DOB1 with knox at 0x0?

Yup
Just a bit of trial and error going back and forth to find something that worked.
Only problem I am running into is that I can not update Su Binary with the app so far.
But it is giving me root access and everything seems to be working.

Okay I take that back.
I have su binaries and everything on it but it won't function and I can not update it for some reason.
I wonder if it is due to the mobile odin injecting ones that are too old.

I made some changes to mobile odin so it has the newer supersu apk and binary from 2.46
Will try and flash back and upgrade again and see if that makes a difference.

im getting an invalid md5 in pc odin. have you been able to flash this?

That's probably because the OP renamed the file after repacking it. You really don't want to remove the .md5 and flash like that if at all possible, because that md5 checks the file's integrity.
Not, trying to hijack your thread @TheArtiszan but I have the Recovery, Kernel, Bootloader and Modem already repacked here:
aaricchavez said:
I know @The Sickness extracted and posted the modem.bin and NON-HLOS.bin already, but i've repacked the Modem, Bootloader, Kernel and Recovery separately as Odin flashable .tar's for anyone who needs them.
I've tested them all out and they work correctly for me, use at your own risk though. For G900T ONLY
Also, consider this: Warning flashing Bootloader/Modem/ FULL FIRMWARE LOLLIPOP
Bootloader/BL:
Bootloader
Phone/CP:
Modem
PDA/AP:
Kernel
Recovery
Also, not to be off topic. Just saw alot of people asking about them!
Thanks @AxAtAx for all the hard work you do, as always!

You will need a computer to flash the bootloader.
Sorry.
No way around that at this time.

Upgrade your towel rooted stock ne6 to stock nf6 keep root and dont trip knox

this is what worked for me.
I too took kies update . Couldn't root ,went back to ne6 rooted again with towel root, then iPC odin flashed the nf6 modem after that i PC odin flashed the nf6 firmware. I did not see the kernel in beanstowns stock official thread. So i downloaded the full tar. Moved it to my sdcard. Flashed only kernel , recovery and system WITH MOBILE ODIN PRO. Since i already had installed modem and firmware seperately
. Mobile odin pro worked like a charm. Rooted knox oxo not tripped!
MOBILE ODIN PRO WILL GIVE A RED WARNING SAYING IT WILL TRIP KNOX . BUT IT DID NOT TRIP IT THIS TIME.
SAME THING HAPPENED WITH THE NOTE 3.
update, it was brought to my attention by 1iwilly that mobile odin pro after installation causes the device to have a custom status. i uninstalled it and my phone said official but after a while i noticed that somehow supersu had disappeared . some of my apps antutu and cpuz said i had root access but the root checker apps said i was not rooted. i tried towel root again on mf6 no go. i was not able to install supersu from the play market or any of the apks from chainfire. the error was that it was incompatible and i think it may have had something to do with installing mobile odin pro as a system app and later deleting it.
luckily a factory reset made supersu come back and i then updated it.i was back to official status . i again installed mobile odin pro this time from the market. im not sure but i suspect that whether it is a system app or not it will say custom status if it is installed., the important thing is knox does not get tripped regardless/. and if need be flashing an unrooted full tar from pc odin or even factory reset will make status official again. (if needed for warranty} as far as ota updates custom status would prevent them but i dont mind that as ota probably would fail anyway and if it did suceed it would surely unroot. so i decided custom status is worth keeping my root apps.
BOTTOM LINE
if you prefer to have official ststus do not inject mobile odin while flashing only inject supersu and tick everoot. if you end up with root issues a factory reset may fix them as it did for me

hey ashraf sharif can you add this to your op this is from geohot=every android phone with a kernel date up to june 3=the key word up to june 3
so to me this mean that when we get another update we might have to re flash to n6 then do the same steps as we did with nf6. that's just my 2cents way of thinking i could be wrong but time will tell

Knox didnt trip at least lol. So you may want to just flash the ne6 kernel in pc odin . Then towel root then try mobile odin again.maybe just flash the nf6 kernel . I think knox should be fine as long as you are flashing signed official samsung files
Your welcome, glad it worked!
ok so if i already install the nf6 firmware and modem thru pc odin i just down loaded the new mobile odin install it i copy the full tar to my sd card
what are the next steps just to flash the kernel.??

well i would load the full tar under open file. Then clear modem and modem 2 as you already have them and do not need to replace those files. This will leave you with kernel. Recovery, and system. Tick enable everoot . Inject supersu. Inject mobile odin and wipe dalvick cache then flash
thanks will try that like a dumb ass i put the whole zip file on sd card instead of unzipping it then putting the tar file on card.

thanks for pointing out the custom status.that was not there last time i looked.mobile odin installs itself as a system app. but like you said after uninstalling it system status is back to official.many root apps do that. also be careful if/when uninstalling system apps. i remember on my s3 i uninstalled chat on and my status turned custom. reinstalling and even factory resetting didnt work because it reinstalled as a regular user app. only re flashing firmware fixed that. btw mobile odin pro does not always root properly. sometimes it cant install supersu. dont forget to get busybox without it most root apps dont work

Root for NG3?

Hi, I got my S5 today and out of the box it had NG3 installed, is there a root method for this yet? If so could someone point me in the right direction of where I can find it please?

I did but idk if I did something wrong, I soft bricked and had to odin back stock with the firmware off of samfirmware site
Kernel build date on NG3 is July 19 so the exploit has been patched. Can't root with towelroot since it needs a kernel build before Jun 3.
What I did was odin flash philz recovery, then went into the custom recovery and went to reboot, it asked me to root and so I did then was able to download su from play store and was rooted

This phone will never not be rootable. It has an unlocked bootloader, so you can just flash the recovery of your choice, root it from there, then reboot and you're done.

And why is that? Unless Samsung has restricted the bootloader permissions or set a new qfuse to block a downgrade of this firmware version, then the OP could use Odin to install a pre June 3rd build of 4.4.2 firmware, which Towel root can work with.
The previous update was revertible by installing an earlier firmware (confirmed). And NG3 is probably revertible as well (unconfirmed) i.e. it will be revertible unless Samsung took explicit steps to block a downgrade.
Provided that the OP doesn't care about the Knox flag, then the suggestion to install a custom recovery and root from there is valid too.
.

Yeah, I did it via download mode.
So, what I did, I flash it via Odin in Download mode, and when it auto-reboots, I instantly hold Power + Pwr Up + Home in order to get to Recovery.
If I let it boot up first, it seems that recovery is overwritten by the stock recovery.
All good now =)

I pulled the battery. I tried the AP, BL, and CP slots and nothing. Do I need to make sure the box for "Phone Bootloader update" is checked?

I think its a problem with the bootloader file. it should consist of a bunch of files, not just a boot.img file. looking at previous bootloader zip i have shows this.

Hey guys, my Boot.Img is not the bootloader that you are looking for. It is just the boot.img which is the kernel. That is why i created my tut on how to root when you have the latest complete firmware on your phone. Mobile odin will not flash certain files. Go to my thread and follow the steps and you will have all the files installed on to your phone and have root..
I flashed the full update via mobile odin which flashes everything but the bootloader. I've tried flashing yur boot file in pc odin like you said but it never sticks. I've done it twice.

please reread my other thread above yours about my boot.img is not the bootloader.tar that you are trying to install. It is just Boot.img which is only the kernel.
You will have to do either 1 of 2 things,
1- pull the files from the full stock nk2 and create your own bootloader.tar.md5 file
or
2- flash the full nk2 with PC ODIN 3.09 on your computer and then use my method to achieve root.
Ok, is there an easy way to make a boatloader tar?

yeah have a computer with linux and pull the files and create a folder and then use linux command lines to zip- pack- and create a tar.md5.
there might be other ways to do this, Search the forums and internet on exact process,
Okay my problem was that I didn't realize your tutorial was if you installed via pc Odin. Followed your directions and I'm good now. Only thing is when I opened up supersu it crashed, rebooted and then it worked however I never got the question on disabling know. Is there a way to check that it's still disabled?

have you installed a custom recovery or custom rom on your phone, if you have you might have all ready tripped knox and that is prolly why you did not get the prompt for disabling knox.

[ROM] OF6 FULL tar.md5 file Odin Flashable only

i managed to get the OF6 sprint full rom file through kies.
this is only to be flashed using odin in the ap slot.
you will probably lose root and your custom recovery.
you may be able to root it and restore the data . That up to you to try.
This is the Sprint version Only!
here is the link: if someone wants to provide a mirror that would be appreciated.
Disabling 'Reactivation Lock' from 'Security' in the settings allowed me to root and add a custom recovery (TWRP).
your on your own from here!

here is another link thats a zipped MD5.tar file. this must be unzipped before putting the file into odin ap slot . (thanks to itskapil for the link)

It's always great to have a TAR file on PC. Thanks!
But btw, this is Android 5.0 update, right? Have read on android blogs that OF6 has been 5.1 update for T-Mobile Galaxy S6 sets. So..
Okay, it's 5.0.2. Brings Reactivation lock.

First is this a necessary update? Second does one have to update to OD3 first before doing the update. I'm still on OA6

no you dont have to update and no it isnt necessary. but if you are on stock OA6 I would take to guess that this rom is 5 months newer with improvements in alot of areas. they claim its for factory reset protection (so someone cant steal your phone and just factory reset it and it theirs now) and for reactivation protection (same thing so noone can reactivate the phone and make it theirs)
if i was on straight stock i would update. if i was on a stock rooted i would either try and root it or wait for someone to root the tar file and make it flashable through recovery.
thats my take on it.
cool... thanks. I like the security features, but at the same time I may wait till the new Moar comes out to do the work.

Has anyone successfully loaded a custom recovery and possibly one of the available OA6 ROMs after updating to this full tar?
I know there are separate modem and firmware files, but I was just curious if anyone has tried to go there from full stock.

Yes. In fact, I did a full rom install, with nand erase all (after a bad flash), and I still went back to OA6 and OD3 stock deodexed roms.
Flashing TWRP from Odin works fine after flashing OF6 or OD3. I also used the CF one click root method, and that also worked for me.
Everything I did was in Odin 3.10.6.
Chainfires auto root makes odin complains about the recovery and shows 'fuse>3', which (I assume) means I've already burnt thru three of the 400+ fuses in the phone (kernel, recovery and probably rooting). I've tried odin 3.10.6 and the version that comes with chainfires auto root. Towelroot v3 says my phone isn't supported, even when using the command mod options.
I'll boot back into Windowz and try this a few more times. I don't see/know how joshdv rooted his phone...
edit: let's add insult to injury. I can't downgrade the firmware/OS to OA6, says it fails OS version.

Maybe it would help if you posted the link to the autoroot tar and any special steps you took to get it working.

Ya, before I flashed this, I knew I was probably stuck with OF6 and that there currently wasn't a reliable method to get root. Now, it's a waiting game to see if someone comes up with a method/hack to root this. GooooOOOOO CHAINFIRE!!!

Depends how long you're willing to wait and if you want to keep the warranty bit untripped.
If it doesn't matter, you can still flash custom recovery in odin and any one of the pre-rooted custom or stock roms that will run on the lollipop bootloader.
I got root by just installing custom recovery and flashing super su. zip

new firmware G900TUVU1FOG6

upgraded with kies . mhl is fixed. I rooted with the hispasian kernel from Shinyside but that broke mhl probably because the kernel is based on the fof6 firmware . so I again flashed with kies installed twrp and ran the debloater from muniz_ri . This update seems to be a huge improvement so far.
here is a fast download link to the odin flashable tar
https://mega.co.nz/#!5QVz2AaT!9dV7WFKcf12-9Pn3OeiNvXbAceNJRIChi3Vixzdp2tw
if the tar file does not work for you here is the zip . extract it first and then flash
https://mega.co.nz/#!8NtB2aAA!bxVTbiS-P8IOej5_1d0T7iouU8GGHszG5AcZpACCXl4
this is the debloat script i used created by muniz_ri. this is the older script that does not require root.
https://mega.co.nz/#!Rd0C1JhY!fiKMIzkPszlF5JvEooWrBQoIdrurUKLsEtDTEZOouHY
instructions for the script can be found in the second post of this thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo.../g900tof6batchdebloater-customizable-t3147293
After update, I have screen pinning under security section. So far I haven't found a changelog. But my phone feels snappier, could be placebo though.

Sweet! Would you be able to run one of the stagefright detectors to see if this patches the exploit as well?
Received the update OTA this morning. Installed the update and Lookout's Stagefright Detector now shows the S5 as NOT vulnerable. I checked before updating, and the device WAS vulnerable at that time.
Well hispasian kernel is gonna have to wait for the source to be released. But the trap kernel will be updated as soon as I download the firmware
Derp- I'll have to wait for the source for trap kernel too haha I forgot about the enforcing sh!t. Time to start emailing samsung
---------- Post added at 01:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:06 PM ----------
Start emailing them asking for release of the FOG6 source code
opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=inquiryView
fill out the crap, select release of source in the drop down
haha i was thinking that too . anyway sending request now
I've also submitted a request.

Glad to hear that MHL is fixed! Thanks for sharing.
Edit: The issue I encountered below was fixed by chaging the extension *.tar[1].md5 to *.tar.md5 which I overlooked at first.
I am getting a "MD5 error! Binary is invalid" after I clicked on PDA / AP and browsed to the .tar.md5 I downloaded from the link in this thread. I used the Unified Android Toolkit, which starts ODIN v3.09 to Flash the ROM. In Odin the message is "MD5 Hash value is unvlaid."
Note that I just carried it out a a factory reset (using also the advanced option and wipe system, data, ...) Not sure if it was appropriate. Anyhow, I restated in Downloading mode (ODIN MODE, UDC START, Knox Warranty Void: 0x1 (4)) so I skipped straight to Flash Rom, which started Odin.
Any suggestions?
Thank you
just updated but my baseband version is still G900TUVU1F0F6

Thanks for pointing that out. It took me several tries to successfully upload the file to mega. I changed the filename in my cloud drive just now so the filename should work fine.
That's strange, how did you update? Kies?odin?ota?
kies
thats strange maybe try samsung smart switch or try kies again? you can odin flash it too.

Thanks. The ROM flashed easily and after the initial setups I am trying to Root my phone. The Recovery-TWRP-2.7.1.0-KLTE.tar was sinatalled, Busibox Root zip files were pushed to be flashed, I think it rebooted to TWRP... not it is stuck when booting to Android, i.e. white text "Samsung Galaxy S5" over black background. I tried a couple of time to force reboot, now it freezes at T..Mobile in Red with white background display.
Another details, in the Unified Android Toolkit, I selected Samsung S5 / TMobile / Build 5.0 (the only choice besides 4.4.1 and 4.4.1).
Also, I thought your ROM was already rooted but initially I haden't set the usb debug mode, just the Developer mode (tapping 7 times on Build number).
I am a newbie, do you have a suggestion of what went wrong.
thanks,
Donat
