Venue 8 7000 series - Enable measurement tool - Dell Venue

I figured out how to enable the measurement tool in the dell gallery app after the update that removed the functionality.
Within the app, go to settings then tap the app version number (it said 'Gallery 1.3.1' in my case) several times quickly and debug options will appear. Tick the option for "show measurements" and you are in business.

@beestee thanks for the tip. Worked like a charm on my Venue.
I am quite surprised the Venue community hasn't grown to the unit having its own forum. This is an amazing device.

Accessing Developer Options

I don't know if this is widely known but I've never seen it written down before and a quick search of this forum didn't turn up anything.
To access Developer Options on your 8.9" HDX with OS 4.5.1; go to Settings and open the Device Options screen; tap Device Model quickly several (5 - 6) times (you will see a countdown). Developer Options will appear at the bottom of the list.
Other ROMs are reportedly made zipper by reducing each of the animation settings (I.e.; from 1 to .5) so you might try that as a start but, don't mess with settings you don't understand - you may come to regret it.

What happened to app exclusion option for battery optimization?

I have come to realize that the option to exclude some apps from battery optimization (Doze) has disappeared from my phone. I do remember being able to do so once since the MM update, but it no longer appears as an option in the 3-dot menu in Power. The only available option is "reset app preferences". I would like it back, so if anyone can point me to it, I'd be indebted!
Thanks
UPDATE:
Thanks to mfreeland on Android central:
Go to Power>Battery Optimization>Tap Battery optimization Not optimized, choose All apps. The list will pop up and you can choose for each app.

Preventing the phone from killing background apps

Hi, this may have been asked before, but I can't seem to find a straight answer for it:
I've got a Huawei Mate 10 Pro. The damn phone keeps killing apps running in the background, no matter how I configure the "Launch" menu. Is there any way to prevent the phone from killing apps running in the background? Even the 'Lock' button on the apps in the app manager screen doesn't prevent that from happening!
It's worth mentioning that my phone is not rooted, nor is going to be any time soon, since it seems so much riskier to root this phone than it is with other phones.
.......delet.....
Go to settings - battery - launch and find the app you don't want to be terminated then change to manual mode(ensure that you enable the 3 options especially run in background)
Or go to special access - ignore Battery optimization - select all apps then scroll to the app you want not to be terminated, tap on it, select allow then click OK and exit

Amazing, thank you very very much!!
Honestly, the power settings on this phone are horrible!
You're welcome
A lot of settings need to do.

after each restart my brightness go back to default with auto mark why?

i always turn off the v on the auto brightness cause i love my on the full bright
but every restart i make it turn back to default ?
I too don't like this behavior, particularly because if restarting the phone in poor light conditions the screen is automatically set to a very low brightness.
I'd like to know if this is a bug or it's so by design...
By design. All my mates did this. Don't like either but is what it is.
yup. an issue for me too
This is seriously a Huawei 'feature'? Holy.... :silly:
Possible solution:
Depending on your exact model and restrictions placed on it in your country/territory you should be able to do the following to stop this (VERY!) annoying issue:
1) Turn-off power-saving battery modes if you haven't already
2) Go into 'Settings' then: System -> Developer Options -> there will be an option called "Increase Readability Under Sunlight" -> Toggle this setting to "OFF"
3) Go back to main Settings screen, then "Display" and ensure that "Auto-Adjust" is OFF
This should stop the phone from constantly turning the automatic adjustment back on every time you restart.
NOTE: Some may find that they do not see a "Developer Options" menu within their System settings. If this is you then you MIGHT be able to activate this hidden menu by going into the System section then About Phone, then press/click the "Build Number" part of the screen 7 times in a row.
If this works for you it will pop up with a message such as "you are now an authorised developer"
If you get this kind of message then if you go back to your main System settings screen you should now see the previously hidden 'Developer Options' section
Hope this helps some of you, I had to do this on my new Mate 20 Pro
I really hoped that 146 update solved this problem, but even with all the above settings disabled, after reboot the auto brightness setting always stays ON...
Even more annoying is the dimming within certain apps. When you open Chrome for example, the display dims. And when you close Chrome the display gets brighter (to its original value) again. Haven't found a way to fix this yet. The problem occurs with autobrightness disabled as well as when the autobrightness is enabled. Also with Increase Readability Under Sunlight toggled off.
I'm looking for a fix that stops the dimming when opening certain apps, but let's me be able to keep the autobrightness function on.
I'm not sure if this works, I'm not even sure if the app is called power genie or power genius. But I saw this in a forum.
. non rooted solution will be: adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.huawei.powergenie
Try this as for me it is working perfect. Download setting database editor. Install it, after that go to setedit app and find hw_screen_auto_brightness_adj and delete line. Reboot and voila. No more dimming or increase in autobrightness.

Tried this a couple of times, off/on/off on my p30pro, but makes no difference at all, any other ideas for these phones?
I had the same annoying "issue" with my Mate20Pro.
I have an efficient way to solve this.
Just download MacroDroid app, and you can make a macro with these parameters: after turn on do: set brightness to X% and turn off auto adjust.

Thank you for introducing this very useful app
It'd be brilliant if you could provide the exact instruction to do the parameters ... I couldn't figure it out after trying for several times
Cheers
Just stop rebooting your phone. It doesn't need it. Worst case is that you have to enable it after Android updates.

A10e apps resetting in recent apps

Often when I press the recent apps button to choose an app that I was just using, the app resets (often I have to re-enter the app password - extra aggravating).
I reset the cache partition but can't think of anything else.
As info - it has been occuring since I got the phone. I doubt it's a RAM issue because I'm using the same apps the I was using on a much older phone.
Any help, please?
Check battery usage settings. Look for optimized apps and disabled it for your apps.
If still not working, try this:
Activate Developer options by going to Settings -> About phone.
Tap repeatedly on Build Number (5 times). Go back to main screen of Settings and tap on Developer options.
Scroll down and verify the following:
-> "Don't keep activities" is off
-> Adjust "Background process limit" to "At most, 4 processes". (default is standard limit)
