hey there!!
so i have the SGP521, and i understood that if i want to root it i need to flash older version of the firmware, so as it. - i did it! i installed the 17.1.A.2.69 firmware, and i rooted it sucseccfuly! but now i want to update it's firmware to the latest, and i don't know if it possible, that i will flash a new firmware and keep my device ROOTED. (i'm using Flashtool).
is there a way to only "update" the firmware without wiping the root (and maybe without wiping the user data too..)
thanks!
Tal.

Having read these three threads, I don't know and it seems the 511 trick works for the 512. Don't know if it will do the 521.
I'd like to know of the lollipop update coming will be rootable or kill root.

you dont need to unroot to change roms you should be able to flash any rom (as long as you have the right recovery and what not)
If your talking about just stock ROM rooted and wanting to get the 4.3 OTA then im 99% sure that once you root which (means you unlocked the bootloader) you cant receive the OTA anymore. im not sure if its worth the hastle of relocking the bootloader to maybe see if youll get the ota. just flash a 4.3 rom and youll be good.

cool thx im gonna try to flash a 4.3 rom
so i flashed this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2499452 and now super user says there is no SU binary installed , if you upgraded to android 4.3 , you need to manually re-root-consult the relevant forums for your divece . could anyone help me out here i dont know what to do, do i need to re root the phone?
All you have to do is download chainfire latest superuser zip and reboot into recovery and choose it and install it .
You don't need to reroot if you already flashed a Rom..that means you was able to flash it cause u was rooted .
You just need to install superuser zip.

Hey guys,
Can I still use the easy root tool to root after updating to the 4.4.4 firmware?
Thanks
Nope
I tried but it is getting stuck on CREATING VM (JAVASUCKS)
Same here... +1 Stuck on "Creating VM... "
No, the known flaws in 4.4.2 are all patched for latest fw, only current way around it is to downgrade, root install dual recovery and flash a pre-rooted zip from CWM.
In other words;
Go back to .314 (4.4.2) firmware,
Root,
Install a recovery,
And flash the new 4.4.4 firmware via recovery.

There are new rumors that you can root 314 - select preserve mode in SuperSU - and go OTA... and root will remain...

Yeah I've heard that aswell. It's most likely working. Shall I try it? Just spent a few hours getting 4.4.4 work on my phone with root...
Ah right - Fuuuun...
I think i'll just carry on stock until someone sorts out a rooting method for 4.4.4 that doesn't involve so much faffing about lol.
Thanks for all the replies
Just keep a eye in Z3 Section too
4.4.4 firmrare is a near direct port
Hi folks,
I have a new 4.4.4 Z2, should I root it now or wait after the Lollipop version is installed?
Will I be able to install the Lollipop when rooted?

Now struggling for a night with unlocking the bootloader, sooms that W7x64 has a prob with it so he can't find the driver.
I'm becoming a nerd
Hey.
My first Sony device. Have been reading about z2 in forums for some days.
I had my device D6503 on 4.4.2 Nordic and now rooted with easy tool and working.
However I get ota update notifications from Sony update center and I assume it is an 4.4.4 update.
How do I update without losing root access. I must have root because of adaway and some other apps.
This seem some different from Galaxy devices and tools used for that matter. Z2 is a fantastic device tho.
Do I need to download latest firmware from another thread that I found in this forum which collects stock ones, and use flashtool.net to flash firmware? In case, what option to thick when beginning to keep root whilst it updates? And if I can keep apps data? Maybe titanium to back up, if only choice.
If some one could send me to the right direction, as I wasn't able to find what I was looking for.
Takk you
The easiest way is install recovery, download 4.4.4 rooted zip from development section and flash the zip through recovery.

Some superuser apps have ota survival but some people are having issues mounting system after the update.
This is a stock rom only rooted with recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2929402
Also, this tells you how to create a rooted update package yourself http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2933155
is possible preserve the root updating the fw with mobile odin? How?
Thanx
updating firmware will clear root access, just get re-root the phone once you've updated assuming it's android 5

Yes. If you are in KK stock untouched, then the L upgrade should only just upgrade your software version without wiping anything.
Hi everyone , i'm new here but was told there's alot of fantastic people here that could help with my problem, so here goes.
I'm familiar with the process of using flashtool and downgrading my firmware , i recently flashed to 4.3 to enable root and then used towelroot , which worked fine, but i had issues with Link2sd not working correctly, which has important files i need to use. i decided just to go back to 5.1.1 ,so i flashed the firmware in the title and used Kingroot as a simple solution , but i honestly don't trust it being there. Ive read a few posts but most of the links for files have gone because the system is quite old now , can someone point me in the right direction and help me out please.
Bootloader - can't be unlocked (according to Sony)
Firmware 5.1.1 (current)
If any more information needs to be added, please let me know, thank you
If you don't want to use chineese root tools like KingRoot and Vroot, install any firmware like 4.4.4 or 5.0.2, after install recovery using option 3 (Installation on an unrooted ^(Lollipop 5.0^) ROM using rootkitXperia). Upon entering recovery, flash PreRooted 5.1.1 zip. As a result, you will have 5.1.1 with root and recovery.

Look in android development section. 5.0.2 is there.
