XAP/APPX request for Softcard apps - Windows Phone 8 Apps and Games

It's official, since Google bought out Softcard, they're going to pull Windows Phone support. Not like that's news, but here's the kicker - the service works perfectly fine offline. Therefore, the app should still work after Google pulls it. They might even send out an update that disables the use of Softcard, so that's why I'm hoping for an unencrypted XAP or APPX (not sure how the app is made) in case that happens.
Personally, I'm on AT&T, but there's also a Verizon version of the app available.

link to the apps?

It's likely that Google will ask manufacturers to remove firmware-support for this in their next updates, so if you do get an xap/appx, be mindful of updates.

it could be 'carrier id' or simply the app that allows you to do 'parental controls'.. Sprint allows you to track your children's phones etc...
just sayin'
I've noticed that after I updated this app, I've been randomly receiving text messages filled with random text. I'm tempted to uninstall it but I don't know if there will be repercussions.

back up the .apk if you can, remove it and if it craps out your phone, re-install..
or make a nandroid backup (if you're rooted) then delete it.. if it craps out, restore..
I got tired of seeing it on app brain so I updated it. Haven't had any issues. I don't even think the app is running.

[Q] Android without GAPPS?

I am not really comfortable with the idea of sharing data with Google, so I wonder how it could be possible to run Android without the Google apps.
Using CM7 as the base for my devices (SE X10 mini pro & ZTE Blade) is already a good starting point, by not installing the GAPPS package.
But then what?
How to get apps from the market without GAPPS?
Which (offline) navigation software instead of Google Maps?
Which calendar app instead of Google Calendar?
Any other Google service replacement?
Any suggestions are highly appreciated.
You could probably use amazon appstore instead of market. The real market requires google's framework. As far as the calender i'm not sure look around on the amazon market for one.
Personally i would just use gapps what could you possibly be doing where the info google collects could hurt you ? They don't collect personal data like sms or phone calls. So unless you download child porn its prob ok to use google's apps.
I am not thinking about anything illegal, but you can be identified by your (required) Google account, and once you enable data synchronization / localization service, or the background data submission required for using the Market, you are already deeply caught in the Google network.
I don't know about the Amazon Appstore. Does it feature the same apps as the Google Market? I guess not, and when I try to access it, it tells "The Amazon Appstore is only available to customers located in the United States.", so I don't think this is a suitable alternative anyway.
So the only real downside of not using GAPPS is access to the market. A possible workaround could be to use the Android emulator of the Android SDK to download apps, then package them up to APKs and copy them over to your mobile.
I am sure there are a lot of others which are not comfortable with Google as well, but do not want to surrender their Android phones.
If you just want the apps you can install them from your pc to your phone on the market website. If you don't have a Google account or want one at all maybe use 4shared to download them. You can also usually download them from the developers website.

I am still testing the use of Android without GAPPS, but there are some issues I have no idea how to overcome:
There seems to be no suitable Calendar App that does not rely on the Google Calendar / synchronization with Google. My preferred app would have been aCalendar, which works kind of, but no appointment can be saved because it tells "You have no calendar". Any suggestions? How is the calendar issue solved on Android-without-GAPPS devices like the Kindle Fire?
Some apps simply can not be installed without the Google framework present. For example when trying to install the Adaffix and QR Droid apk's manually, it simply tells "Application not installed" without any error message pointing out the problem. Any idea about that?
These two issues are the main problems with having no GAPPS on the phone, and as much as I would have liked to run my Android phones without GAPPS, it seems there is no way around it, if one does not want to have it overly complicated.
I have been using android for a few weeks now with no google account. Installing a firewall and lbe privacy seems to work fine. Just dont allow any google services access to the net. Works fine for me
I don't understand why you would by a Google OS but not want google apps.
UPDATE: Android without GAPPS is a go now!
Android is NOT really a GoogleOS, it's a Linux distribution with proprietary Google apps added. You can successfully run Android without Google, which is what Amazon already proofed with the Kindle Fire on a large scale.
I am not talking about running Android without Google account, but Android without GAPPS installed, and I am happy to confirm, that it is indeed possible without too much hassle, since I overcame my initially major issues:
The calendar issue could be solved by installing Jorte, which uses its own database.
I simply omit apps which rely on the Google Framework, so I replaced QR Droid with Barcode Scanner, and just deleted Adaffix, for which there is no replacement (not that much of a loss, especially since I was not really sure about their privacy policy; would you willingly submit the phone numbers of all your callers to a private company?).
I am going to use MapQuest instead of Google Maps, a free app based on https://www.openstreetmap.org
I already installed all my apps, which I previously downloaded from the Market, on that Google-free phone, in addition to AdFree, to get rid of the advertisement in the typical free apps, as well as AmazonAppstore (just in case). Now for my kind of use I don't miss any Google services at all.
The next logical step is to install the Android SDK on a computer, run Android 2.3 including GAPPS for Market access in the Android emulator, and just download all the desired software and software-updates there, to be exported (using ASTRO) to the Google-free phone.
Some may argue that it may not be worth the hassle, but I am still in the opinion, that it's best not to share ANY data with Google ever.
BTW Don't use Google at all, not even for simple searches -> have a look at https://duckduckgo.com (they even have an Andoid app)!
Where to start?
Android is not a Linux distribution, it only uses a Linux kernel, these two mean vastly different things and should not be confused.
What exactly do you want to hide from Google?
Your email? It goes through dozens of servers without encryption. The only people not reading it are the ones who don't want to.
Your location? Your cell phone provider has it. And so does your government)
Your searches? Okay you're right on this one I use duckduckgo on my pc.
The point is that most of your data is tracked by hundreds of companies. They use your os and flash version, your cookies, user agent, screen resolution. You can run but you can't hide.
You're not on Facebook, are you?

Never make the assumption that if you're not going anything illegal than you shouldn't worry about tracking. Never never never. Okay? If you do you don't deserve privacy. Read "little brother" by Cory Doctorow.
For the calendar and the contacts i use to synchronise every day my Desire S with an old version of Lotus Notes (7.xx) on my Job computer. I use MyphoneExplorer with a USB connexion. It works very well without microsoft exchange or any connexion with google agenda.

From my point of view I consider everything based on the Linux kernel a Linux distribution. Android = Linux kernel plus a bunch of open source software, the proprietary Google code does not have to be considered to be part of the base system.
What I want to hide from Google? About everything. Isn't it the same with Facebook, where the user is not the customer, but the product?
Of course everybody leaves a large track in the net, but one can at least try to prevent data sharing as much as possible, and not using Google services and not providing them any additional info is part of it.
Of course that topic is mind splitting, but I know I am not alone on this, and as shown, it it indeed possible to successfully use an Android phone completely without Google, and I do not see any disadvantage in it.
Hope this helps:

There are many other reasons for wanting to avoid Google. For example, let's say you have your contacts synchronized. You're using gmail and calendar and you have a card linked to your Google Play account.
You go on holiday and you card gets cloned. The criminal uses your card to do something horrendous and you wind up in jail. Because you had all your eggs in one basket your account has been disabled and your defense has no access to your emails to plan your case and defend you in court. You're utterly screwed.
By using different companies and services you at least have more chance of keeping access to those services.
Google services are pretty monolithic. They're great, but there's advantage in using separate services if you can.
Here are some alternatives to the Google apps:
- Gmail = K9mail
- Play = app leacher, sdk virtual image method. fDroid
- Maps = MapQuest. Various SatNav apps. Waze
- GTalk = Skype or Fring (though both of those aren't greatly done). Various SIP/VoIP apps like cSipSimple
- contacts = t9dialer?
- Goggles = any barcode scanner will do for me
- any others?

Of course ! Why not ? Facebook leaves you the choice what to upload.
i agree with this thread, i dont mind sharing my information with companies, i do it all the time, but i dont like forced sharing with no opt out, this is essential stealing. eg ics and motoblur contacts
i guess you could say the opt out is to not install, which is what the thread is talking about
i think we are lucky to have android available without the gapps bloat such as with cyanogen mod

I have been using Ghostery and Adblock Plus for years. They should take care of that.
If your really worried about your privacy you should check out Orbot the Tor client for android (https://guardianproject.info/apps/orbot/)
I will revive this thread, because I also install CM10.1 and try to use withoug GAPPS.
My phone is already running much smoother than with stock rom (Galaxy S3 I9300).
No Samsung push service, Google push, Calender...
So I am already using f-droid and androidpit now. At the moment I am missing Skype and Facebook Messenger.
I know worrying about privacy + using facebook might sound strange. But most friends I can only contact by Facebook (or SMS, lol), so I have to use it.

In Nokia V2 change log is:
Update 2.0.0.0
I would like to thank my friend RAM for helping me with this upgrade.
Redesigned app from the App Studio Beta into C# Language.
When you click on link IE will not open, instead it goes directly to the store download.
Added AppBar at the bottom.
In AppBar, rate link goes directly to the rate app review, now able to share link, added e-mail link direct to me if any issues or letting me know about an app that needs adding, link to my other apps for download.
________________________________________________________________
Again these versions have just been submitted and both are in the certification stage. It will take a bit before the new version will show up so please be patient with me.
Thanks HERG62123 :fingers-crossed:
The pictures below are from V2 which is being certified.
Nokia App Updates V2 now posted in the link in Post #1.
Samsung App Updates V2 is also posted.
Ok I have updated both apps and are in the process of being certified.
As of right now V2 is up and posted but in the up coming V2.0.1.0 the changes are as follows:
Nokia App Updates V2.0.1.0 - added Connectivity Pro+ and Unit Converter Pro+
Samsung App Updates V2.0.1.0 - In the light theme background was not set correctly so this update fixes that issue.
V2.0.1.5 - Samsung App Updates being certified as we speak/
Added a donate link if user wants to donate but not in away to upset user
Made buttons smaller due to accidental opening while flipping
I am using it in my nokia 920 and it has scrolling issue. means it does not scroll at all. instead it opens the app that i do not want to when trying to scroll. so actually instead of scrolling up or down it pushes the spot where i want to scroll up or down and the app that is in there opens.

I think about security issues for Windows phone is too much.
1. I cannot use any other keyboard directly writing in SMS or anything. I have to copy paste.
2. Call recorder is not supported as well in WP 8 as this is also security issue.
3. What else is security issue I wonder ?
4. No video transfer in Viber. I think at least this should not be security issue.
Everything is security issue in WP 8. Why Microsoft does not think that people will abandon the OS ? there are too much security issues, I did not know about it before buying my Nokia Lumia 920 developer edition. To tell the truth i keep my phone because it is Nokia not because of OS at all but soon most likely my WP will be second device and I will go back to Android and buy HTC again, great UI and fast and now they update more frequantely.
New Version being CERTIFIED NOW
Link to new version is in the code box in post one, but beware it is still being certified still

But they say Windows phone is the future how come you go to Android ? Also if windows phone has security measures, what is that security measures that you do not want to except before you app is published ? I hear about WP lot of things related to security, this is very strange for me. Even phone call recorder is security related, then keyboard app other than Microsoft to type directly in the SMS is not implemented too. And many other that keep developer away somehow. How come ? If you look at the swype keyboard for android it actually stores what you type and sends info back to the manufacturer.
A third party KBD on the phone would mean that KBD app could harvest your passwords and send them on to a destination of choice.
Similar issues exist with the call recorder. Who should have access to those recordings? You? Google? Rovio? NSA?
So yes, your app got booted because you don't grok the security implications of what you're trying to do, and in stead of trying to understand why you just blame the OS.
Please, go develop for Android, and I hope you make tons of money in the process. Just quit being a whining little girl about it.

Trying to use Company Portal with Rooted, Not Encrypted V30 -- Please Help!

Hi,
Just joined a new company that requires Company Portal to access Outlook email and other apps on my phone.
Evidently even if you manage to hide root from Company Portal, a major requirement is having an encrypted device with Company Portal.
In order to get rooted 2 years ago, I ran Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt during the TWRP setup process so my rooted V30 is not encrypted.
Is there any way to restore encryption now without losing my current stock rom settings and data and maintain root?
I see in LG Settings there is an option to Encrypt Phone and SD Card. Will this suffice so I can maintain root?
If not, is there a way to root and install a TWRP LG Pie Rom zip without disabling encryption via Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt?
Or is it impossible to root and use Company Portal with the LG V30?
Thanks in advance!

My only solution to this problem was to always use webaccess for my Office365 account. They required the portal to use Outlook, and part of that requirement allowed them to wipe my phone whenever they wanted. It's my phone, so I guess I won't use their email on my phone.
Sounds like your company has yet another behind-the-times IT department (like mine). Although mine is also exceptionally incompetent. They left the IMAP server open and available to anyone, so I simply used that with my GMail account instead. It did require me to allow them admin access to the phone to wipe the device (though I think they can only wipe the email) but it worked. They finally got modern and are using 365 so now it doesn't need these extra things. You might want to see if you can wait until they wake up and/or see if there is a server you can connect to. I found mine because, due to their incompetence, they let iPhones use the native mail app via the IMAP server, but forced Android to use some garbage 3rd party software for it instead of GMail. In both cases, the IMAP server was easily seen and setup.
I also have a company phone, so I don't really care if they can wipe it. Again, if I was going to take data from them, I'd do it before I announced I was leaving like any reasonably-intelligent person... so wiping accomplishes nothing. But, again, these IT departments are really dumb and incompetent...
To answer your initial question, I don't know if there's a way to re-enable encryption... but I also don't think that this is something that they can detect anyway. I'm thinking it may be something else they're tripping over. You may consider installing Magisk, and then using it's HIDE feature to see if you can hide the typical "signs" of rooting/etc. It may be good enough to get you working. If it doesn't you simply remove Magisk again (or just stop using it)?
Thanks @ldeveraux and @schwinn8 for the replies!
I know we use Office 365 but I'll have to ask about web access to see if that is possible. It's my phone and supposedly it's "not required" that I install Company Portal/Outlook/Teams on my phone, but I would be the only one at the firm not doing that and I am a new hire so... kind of a bad look so soon. I am not really comfortable with them being able to wipe my phone either, but that wasn't mentioned to me... yet.
Also would have to ask about IMAP, but I doubt it. No company phones either which is fine.
Pretty sure it is the encryption (or lack thereof in my case) that is the issue. I already use Magisk v22 and Hide all signs of Company Portal and pass Safetynet. On another XDA thread where Company Portal is discussed, I followed the suggested steps to no avail:
1) Install Company Portal V5.0.5067.0
2) Magisk Hide ALL of Company Portal checkboxes
3) Reboot
4) Still pass SafetyNet
5) Launch Company Portal
While the app doesn't specify the encryption as to why it cannot get me to the login screen, that's the only conclusion I can reach at the moment.
Did either of you try or look into encryption built into the LG/Android Settings menu? I don't want to do that unless I know of someone with success with it, but am curious if that would allow root via Magisk Hide, encryption, and Company Portal.
Thanks!
Drew
No I stopped carrying when they wanted permission to wipe. If the company was paying for the phone, that's one thing. If I'm using my personal phone for company use, that doesn't fly.
I realize this doesn't answer your question at all, but it's food for thought!

No at that point I gave up
Hopefully you'll get some help here, because I'd still like to be able to actually use Outlook on my phone!
So, a quick search says that there are modules available and other things that need to be tried. One further thing is to hide root from various Google modules. I remember hearing that for some other apps... that you had to hide root from Google services. I also remember hearing that, in some cases, you have to clear data for apps after the hide, because they apparently save the rooted-status in their own data.
Basically, I doubt encryption is the issue... root is usually the problem and can be a bit tricky to hide properly. You just have to try things. I have never seen any app fail to work because encryption is not available... it's always a root-detection issue.
As for the IMAP thing, the point there is to use the settings you find elsewhere to access email. You're not asking IT for permission or info... you just need to find it. Most Microsoft-based IT places I have worked with have zero clue that this is open and offered, so once you find it it's just a matter of plugging in the right info.
As for the web-interface, again, my company (for example) doesn't tell us that we can use the Outlook app, but it works with no tricks whatsoever. Plug in your company account info and it figures out how to connect.
FYI, the module I mentioned above is referenced here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ne-company-portal-hider-intune-hider.3780451/ - no idea if this is necessary or even the latest version...

Thanks for the suggestions! I actually have tried different modules without success both for EdXposed (Security Bypass for Company Portal with CP version 5.0.3013.0 and Bypass Exchange Policies). The closest I got was with CP 5.0.3013.0 where I could enter my credentials but then wasn't able to agree to the Terms and Conditions which is a prerequisite and got denied. The module you linked is no longer needed if using Magisk v22 with Magisk Hide according to people in the thread.
Have also tried the Outlook app, Outlook web access, Gmail, IMAP, POP3 -- all smartly locked down tight for compliance reasons by our IT. Just says to enroll with Company Portal after entering credentials.
Pretty sure the Magisk Hide route would work with V5.0.5067.0 if my device was encrypted. Company Portal checks whether your device is encrypted supposedly, so either you have to actually be encrypted or find a way around that. I am willing to be encrypted if I can still be rooted...
Not sure where to go from here to get it working without an encrypted device... but thanks for the post.
As I recall, Xposed is not really working or functional these days. The module I linked to is a Magisk module. Did you follow those directions, because it sounds like you didn't.
It sounds like you don't want to believe me... that's fine. I believe the answers are out there and it's just a root issue. You probably just need to do more reading and searching. I'm going to give up since you don't seem to want to hear it from me, so good luck...
If you find a solution, do let people know on this thread so the matter can be closed/completed.
I remember the other reason I stopped trying to use the Company Portal. They need permission to wipe my phone, which obviously I'm not cool with. Whenever I disable the Company Portal, mail stops working. That's reason enough!

Yes I am aware that the module you linked is for Magisk. If you go to the OP, all the text is struck through because the module is no longer necessary as I stated previously.
[MODULE] Microsoft Intune Company Portal Hider (Intune Hider)
Introduction: Simple Module To Hide The Root From Microsoft Intune Company Portal. - After The Installation & 1st Reboot, It Hides The Rooting & Disables Itself [P.S. Disabling Itself For Some Versions] - Enabling This Module From Magisk Manager...

It is easy to be confused. The "module" from the OP was needed before but is now obsolete since Magisk has gained the necessary functionality alone without the "module". There is no "module" in Magisk. Now go back and read the past posts over 2 months. First you hide Magisk so it passes safety net. Then you go into superuser MagiskHide, go into the app (eg Portal) and check everything. You need to understand that they updated Portal so you need to downgrade it so Portal will work again. You need to understand to use latest Magisk and Magisk changed. Not surprising you are confused. Now perhaps you have figured out the basics and the details will make sense.

So I followed the steps on page 23 of that thread using Intune Company Portal V5.0.5067.0:

Good call on the GitHub ticket.
For anyone reading, this is the process I followed:
1) Uninstall the existing Intune Company Portal
2) Reboot
3) Install the APK listed above or from another source (I used APK Pure). DO NOT LAUNCH INTUNE!
4) Before launching, go into Magisk and make sure to hide ALL of it as well as all of Outlook, OneNote, OneDrive, Teams, etc. (whatever uses your company credentails)
5) Launch InTune and set it up.
6) Disable auto-updates of the app as he stated in Google Play Store.
7) Profit.

The result is I am still stuck on the "Open the Intune App" screen... No other error messages related to rooting, but cannot even get to log in or download Outlook or Teams. Have tried downloading the Intune App from the Play Store and that tells me to open Company Portal... so going in circles... I'm told I need to only use Company Portal from our IT firm.
I went through the same Magisk module thread and found others talking about not having encryption, and they are in the same position as I am -- following the steps or using the Magisk module (before Magisk v22) and still not getting CP to work.
Thus I am 99.9% sure I cannot use CP because I don't have encryption. You don't have to believe me, but I have tried everything I can think of save for using LG's Encrypt Phone feature... Would do it if I got confirmation I could stay rooted, not lose my data/settings, and then use Company Portal.
But yes, I absolutely would post the solution here if I find it!
Thanks anyway.
I'm rooted and have long had corporate email (two different companies) on a paid app called "Nine". First company was Fortune 100 global media company, and 2nd (past 3 years) is smaller but still has aggressive IT policies. Neither paid for my phone. I specifically remember with the first having to agree they could wipe the phone if it was lost -- but I think due to me being rooted they wouldn't be able to.
Nine - Email & Calendar - Apps on Google Play
Nine is a full-fledged and intuitive email app which supports Exchange and IMAP

Just tried Nine and it also tells me after entering my credentials that I need to use Company Portal (just like Outlook and Web Access).
Do these two companies you worked for use Intune Company Portal to manage policies?

I just installed portal and outlook, added both as admin or whatever it's called, and have a fully functioning inbox. I don't know if I'll leave it like this for the reasons I mentioned, but it works. I have the latest twrp, latest magisk, and adguard installed. I have no clue if I'm encrypted or not, how would I check? But I was trying to use the older version of Portal and it kept looping, so I installed the latest from the play store and we're up and running.
@ChazzMatt do you really think they can't wipe if they so desire? How could we confirm that? I surely don't want to give them that ability considering if you disable their permissions it stops working completely.

For Nine I only needed the email server name.
For the previous Fortune 100 company I worked for, it was almost 4 years ago so I don't remember all the details but I remember granting them the privilege but I don't remember adding them as an admin.

Company Portal didn't used to work for you, correct? What changed? Can you please list your steps this time?
I think to check encryption you use Termux and enter 'getprop ro.crypto.state' -- mine says unencrypted.
One other question is what version of Twrp are you using? I'm using one from 2 years ago -- 3.2.3 and never wanted to bother with the Pie one 3.3 or whatever is latest... Might have something to do with it...

[CLOSED] The old Google Finance app needs to be revived.

Hello there, I'm new here, I have a question.
When will the old Google Finance app for Android will be revived?
Because I wanna try that app to see if it works. It installs on Android 13, I opened the app and selected my account to sign in. And it said Network connection unavailable, even though I'm connected. Connected to my 5G network.
Then I explored the app, nothing works.
I tried accessing a stock, but it said Unable to load quote details from the network.
So, nothing works for now. Now, when will the old Google Finance app for Android will be revived? (I said).
The revived APK with fixed servers, improved support and support for newer versions of Android.
Thank you so much.

Google has killed many projects over the years. There will be no "reviving" of Google Finance - Google determined it simply wasn't in their business interest to continue the project.
Use something else.

Google won't revive it, but I said that someone can revive it. Maybe one day in the future.
The website still exists, as finance.google.com
But, the app no longer exists
Referring to the app, not the website

It's a Google product, Google retains the rights to that product, so someone with a lot of capital would have to buy the IP rights to that product. It's most likely not going to happen, especially not from anyone here on XDA.

What more can I say? The MSN Money app sucks in 2023, also this app not available in my country. Yahoo! Finance is crap as hell, and other apps aren't the same as GFinance app.

I understand, but there isn't much you can do about proprietary projects that have been killed by the parent company, especially when they still own the intellectual property and are unlikely to sell it.
I'm sure there are open source options out there.

I'm not a financial guru, I've just been around long enough to know that there is always someone who doesn't like the current offerings and decides to develop their own.
A Google search suggests Quantopian, as well as Lean by QuantConnect
