I'm with metro pcs $60 plan and I feel I'm being throttle. When I first got their service I was getting real good download speeds, now I could barely load a webpage. Would calling them and complain fix it? Lol
I get better speeds when I set the phone to WCDMA only its just really strange
Here the pictures
You will get the best speeds on T-Mobile towers with a healthy mt2-l03 using high speed APN. If not an option then use WCDMA only for any other GSM carriers.
What do you mean by a healthy mt2-l03 using a high speed APN?
I tried using the fast.t-mobile.com APN and throws me right back to the metro pcs apn.
What's strange is that when I first got the service it was fine. I used to get 5-6 Mbps of download. I'm in the same exact location and when I arrive at work at 6am the speeds are great until about 8am when it goes back down to not even 1mbps. Lol
When I first updated my cc variant of the mt2l03 to b148 I messed up my apn settings toggles etc. I wasn't able to connect to fast.t-mobile.com I could get HSDPA+ and speeds. Would not get LTE anymore and when as apn settings were set to auto it would go to 3g,h, then drop data. The only setting that worked was wcdma mode only but it had become flakey. I flashed back to stock and manually updated system. IMG from b148. Now my system is "healthy" and works great even though I am rooted, carrier unlocked, xposed, and various other changes. On average I get 20-30 Mbps on speedtest.net and have actually pegged the meter at 50 Mbps.
I get extremely fast speed with MetroPCS. Near my work I get close to 75mbps down and 25mbps up. Other areas are almost always near 50 down. Even without full bars, I still get in the 20's. I am using fast.metropcs.com
Nice , is it unlimited? Truly unlimited? I am paying $45 to be on my wife's plan since I'm unlocked no jump program and I am truly unlimited data on high speed as for her she is unlimited data but they cap her high speed usage.
I am truly unlimitied on the $60 plan at LTE speeds, so far at least LOL. I use 15-20gb per month and see no throttling at all. I tether my iPad and laptop when I am on the road as well with no issues. I am pleasantly surprised with how well it is working out. I use Google Play Music and Pandora to stream music in my car, and it is nice to not worry about data usage like I did with Straight Talk.

I was up until a few weeks ago. I gave up on Huawei and the Mate 2. I ordered a couple of the Alcatel Onetouch Idol 3's. But those speeds were with the HAM2. I get those speeds with any LTE phone I use on MetroPCS. My only issue with MetroPCS is that I have to call every time I want to switch phones. I have a few phones, and like to switch from time to time and it's a pain to have to call them. I have thought of leaving them, but the speeds and the unlimited LTE are hard to give up.
Ok, so I've been patient enough with metro pcs but since data speeds are so horrible; I decided to start calling and complain about it. I keep getting the run around about changing some settings in my APN but that hasn't solved the problem. So now they want me to reset my phone. The problem is I'm rooted and have changed my build prop in order to install the latest xpose. Would flashing my back up I created after the update serve somewhat as a reset? Or or should I just reset after flashing my back up see if that in any way fix the problem I have with my data speeds, hope that makes sense.......

Im not sure if you have tried these, but this is what I use.
NAME: METROPCS
APN: fast-t-mobile.com
MMSC: http://metropcs.mmsmvno.com/mms/wapenc
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN TYPE: default,supl,hipri,mms,dun
I have used this on a few phones with no issue. Hope it helps.
I just tried and see no improvement at all. It's just stupid to think that speeds are fine before 8am cuz I get about 15-30 Mbps. After 8am is like 0.07 Mbps lol. Makes me wonder if I'm throttle and if resetting the phone would even help in anyway
That is really strange. I can't imagine congestion would cause that much of a difference.
Yeah the difference is way too much for it to be congestion. My thought is throttling but of course they won't admit to it since I'm in the $60 unlimited plan
Is it even possible to be throttled for x amount of time from x tower only? Lol thx in advance
I am on the same plan and I never get speeds that slow. And I don't think they can throttle for a set amount of time, but I honestly don't know for sure. I feel for you, because I know that it would drive me nuts. Just a thought, do you have any other compatible phones that you can switch to? Just to see if the issue persists with another phone. Rather then wipe your phone for nothing.
Ok, I just had some one with the same phone as me on metro pcs and someone with tmobile stand next to me ran speed tests and we all get craptacular speeds. Not even 1 Mbps of download. Which is stupid, this wasn't the case about 5-6 months ago. I'm gonna go in a corner and cry now.....
Well at least you know its not your phone now, and it is a network issue.

Ok, so I am convert from AT&T and my iPhone 3gs - One of the first apps I like to run is Speed Test so I can gauge what I should be getting - and on my iPhone I used to get 1300 or so K download, and 175 up.
I have run speedtest a few times today and in 10 tests I pull an average of70kbps download and 283up .... Someone please tell me this isnt normal .... Granted that we have a very cloudy day with rain here in Buffalo, but I cant imagine this is even close to what I should get in DL speeds?
in my office building i only get "yellow" for service and right now im getting 585 dl and 61 ul. outside is even better
4g i get 6703 dl and 1430 ul
much better than the 4g in here btw. i don't think i broke 2000 dl inside here, and my status never went above the grey color
Yeah, something isnt right here - I hate to say it, but I may have to call support....
Is the network really congested in your area? I get speeds like that at Tigers games.

Update your PRL. 01120 Should be good. If you don't get 01120, try updating it like 6 times in a row. Oddly enough, its how I got on 01120, which someone who's confused about who-the-man is, says it's biz only PRL. I'm not biz though, I was just sittin here and kept hitting update and it changed to it. Not sure if there's something in the system that allows it to happen or what.
With 4/6 bars on EVDO I'll get ~1500 down and ~800 up
WiMax 1/3 bars 4500 down and 1400 up (1400 is highest upload pretty much)
WiMax 2/3 = 7000 down
and 3/3 tethered = 13000
I stopped at the store and they said it more than likely all the activations, man where they packed, 3D phones going left and right (and some other models).
Also did the PRL update, didnt seem to fix anything ... Ill give them until Next week for these speed issues.

well coming from at&t 3g to sprint 3g is a 50% reduction in speed on paper. cdma is capped at 3.1mbps while gsm is at 7.2. one reason id switch to a more capable technology were it not for the data caps. but you are right, sprints 3g speeds need to be faster. i for one am dissatisfied with sprints 3g.

I've had 2.4Mb down and 1.1 up on EVDOA. Sadly only recently has the WiMax u/l been lifted to 1.5. 2.4Mb down on a cell phone is quite a bit. Granted it's more in the 1 - 1.5Mb range on average, what do you do besides youtube that you'd need more than that? Tethering? Most websites take longer for the phones to process than it does to download the actual content.
Well, I honestly cannot even stream music with the 60k Im getting. It skips alot.... I also used to do Netflix in my car for lunch (Connected to my LCD Screen). Im not looking for 2Mb or anything close, but I would expect anything around 700kbs to 1.2Mbs or so..

me too...me too.
I had the same issue since Wednesday, couldn't get over 120kbps on 3G. Sprint had me redo the activation and it fixed my issues.
You'll need access to the data programming menu, so you have to have your MSL code. Type ##3282# in the dialer, then use your MSL as the password. Go to the data menu and then hit the menu key and click Restore. It'll re-run the activation, update PRL, then update firmware.
Hope it works for others.

I am also getting terrible 3G speeds. Highest I've seen thus far is 130kbps. I had the phone reactivated, restored the data profile and still no luck. I went into the Sprint retail location and they did say that since there has been so many activations and bandwidth usage today, the 3G speeds have been extremely slow. I am expecting these data speeds to rise within the next day or two otherwise its going back...

I am posting from Centreville, VA (Fairfax, Northern Virginia area) and I will add that my 3G speeds are horrid.
With full bars the Spider Man game stopped at like 15% download progress and kept failing....I certainly hope this is because of activations or else I will be going back to my Samsung Galaxy S 4G from T-Mobile where I get 4G signal everywhere I go....unlike Sprint.
Sprint isnt exactly known for its fast data speeds. You guys are more than likely in an area with slower speeds, like myself.
I highly doubt that the data speeds are as slow as they have been within the past 24 hours. If that was the case, no one would have sprint....I am confident it will pick up.
I am also getting really slow speeds. This is my first time with Sprint, so I'm not sure if this is the norm.
Anyone, previously on Sprint, noticing slower speeds after getting 3vo?

slower then edge speeds? lol .. . my sister has the Evo and she gets about 1.2 mb at my house, i get between 3kbps-124kbps
I went to the Sprint store where I bought the phone and I was told phone data is not like Comcast, and that it can be spotty and sometimes give you 3kbps because it is not Comcast, and I'm welcomed to return the phone if I'd like.

.02 down and .01mb up... This phone is probably going back.
Every once and a while I'll check my speed test app to see what im getting for 3G download speed. Lately ive been getting over 1000 ping and like .1 mbps download. I went in and did a data profile reset and that fixed the problem. This has happened to me multiple times over the past couple of weeks.
Has this happened to anyone else? And if so, are devs going to fix this in their roms when the bootloader is unlocked?
Well, it's Sprint, so that's normal 3G speeds...
Move along folks, nothing to see here.
my 3g used to be fire!!! now it seems as if everybody has joined sprint and the network is hella saturated!!!!!!!

Depends on your location. If you check the Sprint forums, there are tons of people complaining about data speeds all over the country. There's certain areas in the Bronx where I have full 4G and only getting 0.50mbps down...it's crazy!
I would say do a ##3282# and make sure your EVDO is set to auto not CDMA. Menu>commit changes & reboot. Update PRL then profile. I guess you've done that?
i was told that for the last month and a half it was because of thunderstorms. i asked him since there are just a few towers between the 44 miles i drive to work, how did all those storms only hit sprint's antennae and not verizon's that are on the same towers?
i talked to a gm at the sprint store last night and he said they're having major data issues and there's no time frame of when they'll ever be fixed. just outside that sprint store i have full 5 bars on 3g and only get 100kb/s. i made sure i was outside of the sprint store's range just in case they had a 3g airave.
they did fix the slow data in my city and most of the areas where i drive to work. now min of 600Kb/s and up to 1.8Mb/s
I find Sprint's network getting worse and worse...they're loading it up with new customers enticed by high end smartphones, but they're not boosting the capacity to match their growth. What scares me is, how much lower is it going to go? :/
Around here I get about 75-200kbps down. It can go to less than 40kbps during lunchtime.

they will let it go pretty far. currently the tower that services my house will be so overloaded during the evening hours that speeds are 0-5k. last night between 7-11pm 3g was unuseable and 4g was zooming at 20k.
ive had dates of april 30th, may 30th, june 30th, and now july 30th as dates when the towers were to be upgraded. i honestly think they just throw dates around so they can get you off the phone.
Same here. During peak hours data is unusable without a wifi connection. I called so many times to put service tickets on the local towers. It's so fustrating. Everytime I call I'm on the phone for like 40mins tell them it's not my phone, it's a network issue. They just don't get it. BTW does anyone have the number for advanced sprint tech support? I'm going to keep calling until they fix the issue.
This is what bugs me so much paying the $10 Premium data Fee. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying the fee if I actually get premium data, but 100kbs down is not premium data. Something has to be done. What the hell are theying doing with that fee? They certainly aren't putting it back into their network. I hope Sprint doesn't get the Iphone because it will only get worse.
You're not in 3G. Your in 1x when you get those speeds. The Display will always say 3G even when switch to 1x.
Once rooted, that can be fixed to reflect what you are really on.

Welcome to Sprint the Nation Wide slowest 3G available.
Welcome to Sprint-The (hope you dont need to download that)Now Network
First, try this:

[MOD] Data Latency (Slow Data) Fix
And second, it is not unusual. I have tried to play online games(BFBC2 etc.) via Wi-Fi hotspot. With poor success. Reasons for this is poor connection(long range to Cell-towers) network overcapacity etc. etc.
Shutting phone's Ciphering should raise U/D speed as above thread say, but I guess that there is not any mindblowing way to fix it. Updating radios would help but.

I said it once and I'll say it again Location, Location, Location. I am Cali bay area(Currently in Lafayette, CA) and my Evo 4G just ran 962k down and 656k up 187 ping. Evo 3d same time test ran 164 ping 1038k down and 609k up. Now at my house in El Sobrante, CA about 15 minutes away I would not come close to touching that speed. Usually around 50k or worse. One thing is I never rely on 3g to do anything for me. I have wifi at home and work and at times 4g. If I am in 3g only location I do not expect to get anything important done.
Edit: Keep in mind I also did the speed fix on both phones. Have to have msl for that.
Here are a couple images for you one is my Verizon 3G Xoom and the other my EVO 3D. Lets face it Sprint speed sucks.

1303.7
1331.6
Up
1455.7
1863.5
Im gonna guess the people that get these good speeds are in sparse areas or areas with few sprint customers. I've been complaining about Sprint speeds since October of last year and its only getting worse and worse. I can remember constant speeds of 1.2-1.8 megs down and now im doing good just to get 250kb/s. The 4G has fallen off quite a bit too.

Actually I'm not 1x. I have a few programs to tell me what network I'm on and I'm definetly getting those speeds on EVDO Rev A. You can use Battery Monitor and go to "Tests" and it will tell you what network you are using or you can use Open Signal and go to maps and it will also tell you. I'm definetly getting these speeds on 3G (EVDO Rev A) Not 1x!
For the past couple days, I've been having very poor 3g speeds, less than 150kbps. I have tried calling Sprint and they just say it's not on their part. I've done a profile update, switched EVDO to automatic instead of CDMA, cleared the proxies, and a data restore. Am I missing something and is anyone else having this problem? Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Yeah, that's pretty good compared to what I get. Maybe it will work itself out in a few days
I never had a problem in my area up until recently. Absolutely awful 3G speeds. Once I start getting further out of the cities it will get better but yea they have been horrible. I use wi-fi at the house so it doesn't affect me too much at home. Use to always get 700+kbps no problem and now I get awful ping times 600+ and horrible speeds most the time. I think ever since the evo came out the network has been overcrowded. Now that Sprint is the only unlimited data provider left I'm sure we have all the bandwidth hogs on the network which isn't helping.
Nothing you can do about it, I have tried everything as well. Removed proxies, data profile updates, restores whatever. Nothing helps
OK guys, you are being pushed through Sprint Proxies when using their interbutts. It lets them watch all your internet usage and really slows it down
If you are rooted grab MSL Reader from the app store, or if not rooted call Sprint and tell them you want your MSL code for your records in case something happens.
go to the dialer and type in ##3282# which will bring up the EPST. Choose Edit Mode and enter your MSL. now go to Advanced and scroll to the bottom. The last four are where your data is routed through. Change them to either 0 or 0.0.0.0 depending if they are ports or IPs.
You will need to do this everytime you update your PRL, firmware, etc
Does anyone know of any fix for the HSPA+ SGSII I9100 throttle problem?
Is anyone even working on a throttle removal process for this phone?
When I originally got my phone I was using the wap.Cingular APN and was actually getting pretty fast speeds. I then went into the AT&T store and switched my unlimited 3G to unlimited 4G and it seems that the speeds have sort of crapped out. If throttling is the issue I would love a fix. Hopefully someone that may have more information than me can enlighten us

Throttling is done on the network gateway. To get around speed throttling, you have to be on the right data plan (4G of some kind), and you have to be connecting to the right gateway. The wap.cingular APN is throttled. 4G phones have a different APN. I think that APN is just "phone". There are a bunch of threads that already exist on this subject, just search for them.

As I said above, if you changed your plan from 3g to 4g, you will probably have to update your APN to point to the correct gateway. wap.cingular will only get you the lower end of HSPA+ speeds. You want the "phone" APN. Search is your friend.
Trust me Bro. I searched like crazy. The fix seems to be for LTE phones.
I got the international SGII about a month ago. It's only HSPA+. One week after I bought it they came out with the lte version on att. what a bummer.
It seems all the threads online are about lte phones, switching the APN back to HSPA+. I tried some of those fixes to no avail. still throttled at .13 mb. I'm only 8 days into my billing cycle and this is unacceptable as one can't even open a website. it seems the ping speed has quadrupled.
I'm due for an upgrade and my contract would end in few days. I was wondering if there exists a fix for this on an HSPA+ phone or should I just go and upgrade to skyrocket. There's no way I can go on with .13 for the rest of the month.
If anyone knows of a fix on HSPA+ phones that would be great.
BTW, when I bought the phone, I called att and tried to add the new phone imei it came out as a Blackberry. I told them to add the 4g plan but I really don't know if they did it. The lady was like you should have a blackberry plan. So I told her to just keep my iphone data plan unchanged.
My phone then on it's own was pulling HSPA+ speeds up to 7mb/s so I didn't care.
Do you think I should call back and make sure I have a 4G plan added?

I also have the unlocked international Galaxy SII. I am on the unlimited data plan for non-smartphones, using the wap.cingular APN. I'm averaging around 3.5-4 mbps down. Fastest I've seen is about 6.5mbps. This is fast enough for me; I would prefer getting unlimited data for the price I'm paying anyways, rather than pay twice as much as I do now only to be capped at 2gb per month.
Maybe you flashed a different modem to your phone without knowing it. What is your setup? Custom ROM? etc?

You can check your account online. If you log in, and go to myAT&T > Wireless > Usage & Recent Activity, under Data it will list your data - If yours contains a string that looks like HSPDDB, it is 4G unlimited. If it only contains DPPB, it is 3G unlimited. Mine (for the unlimited data for non-smartphones) says GPRS WAP UNLTD DOM - DTAU.
EDIT: you said above it was pulling HSPA+ speeds up to 7mbps... what changed? Did you flash a custom ROM? New kernel? New modem? I find it very weird that your speeds would suddenly drop from 7mpbs to 0.13mbps for no reason.
Using the phone APN and a 4G plan will get you the fastest speeds. Back when I was on a 3G plan, I could only rarely connect to the phone APN, and could get only about 7 Mbps top speed. When I switched to a 4G plan, I found I could consistently connect to the phone APN, and my top speed went up to about 9.5 Mbps.
Note that speeds on either APN are highly variable; I can get 9 Mbps one time, then only 1-2 Mbps a couple minutes later.

Allegedly, I am in the top 5% data users at only 3.1 GB.

Oh, I see. You're getting throttled because you've used tons of data this cycle. So it sounds like you are not on an unlimited plan, but a capped plan. If you're supposed to be on an unlimited plan, I would call them up and fight tooth and nail to get it back.
But seriously, I'm on an unlimited plan, but I don't use nearly that much data (3.1 GB!!!) in 8 days. Heck, I hardly ever go over 2 GB in one entire billing cycle.
The only thing I can recommend is for you to hook up to Wi-Fi as much as possible. I have Wi-Fi at home and work, so when I am there, it is not consuming my data plan allowance. Besides, Wi-Fi will end up with a more consistent speed (usually faster). HSPA+ tends to vary wildly in download speeds. In addition to that, Wi-Fi tends to consume less battery. There are a lot of reasons to use Wi-Fi if it is available instead of HSPA+.
Take it as you will, that's just my advice.
my SG2 is not flashed. still on custom samsung ROM.

I understand. I've been using my phone because I've been traveling and sometimes wifi is not an option. I use data a lot for my work. I do have a grandfathered unlimited.
I just got my wife the GSII Skyrocket on AT&T and her phone is getting much faster data than mine. She is averaging around 1 mbps faster download speeds but the real killer is her ping, which is consistently between 50-69 ms. Mine never goes below 100 ms. I am on the 4G plan and I am using the phone APN. Her phone has a different apn ("pta" instead of "phone"). I tried the pta apn but it wouldn't connect to data so maybe that is somehow reserved for phones with an LTE sim card? I'm really not sure but I want that faster speed. Any idea what is causing her to get better speeds? FYI before anyone asks we are NOT in an LTE area so both phones were on HSPA+ during my tests.
EDIT: I just tried again and her download speeds are double mine (mine was 3 she was over 6). I expect the AT&T phone to be slightly more optimized for their network but this is ridiculous. Something has to be wrong it can't be this much of a difference.
Been looking into this for awhile now. Today, I've just rooted my Huawei Ascend Mate 2 (on 4.3) and I'm absolutely giddy over having a rooted android
Two things I've been finding come up is to change the APN settings (been playing with those, doesn't seem to help ) and to go into data/system/throttle and delete the two files you find there after backing them up to your pc. Problem is, while this folder seems to pop up for a lot of people, there doesn't appear to be a throttle folder in my phone. This may be because, even though it was sold through Net10 and uses Net10 service, it's originally technically an AT&T phone. To my understanding (and I may be a total noob here), the big carrier companies like AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc, throttle you when they see you're using too much on their towers. But that prepaid carriers piggyback on the big carriers, so rather than being able to monitor you (because they can't watch the towers, it's not their towers) they install these triggers in their devices to automatically activate when you exceed a certain data threshold (in my case, 3GBs). Is my understanding incorrect here? Just trying to learn from what I read on forums.
Anyone here who can help me figure out how to bypass the throttle, or at least make it a bit faster than 16kbps when being throttled? I understand getting slowed down, I'm not gonna sit here like "Lol but it says unlimited lol" because I actually read the fine print. But 16kbps is unbelievably slow (on full bars/strong dbm signal. Weak signal areas give me about 2kbps while on throttle). Hell, I'd be good with 50-100kbps.......
If you need more info to help me out, just ask! I'd appreciate anyone who has any ideas on how to either bypass or speed up (even slightly).
No flaming or 'smartassery', please, not everyone knows what may be obvious to you.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but typically throttling takes place on the network not the native side it would be too hard to manage however that being said Mac address tracking does seem to take place quite a bit that's mainly for marketing purposes. In the past throttling was controlled by a proxy server. Take out the proxy and you remove throttling. I am sure I don't know the infinite number of ways to limit or governor each data connection but as for now I am using a cc variant that I manually built to factory unlocked spec and no proxy or throttling my only limitation seems to be how far away from the tower I am and the limitations of the hardware itself which I can't complain at times I can peg the meter on a speed test.

They do not use files on the phone to throttle you. That is done at the providers end.
There is NO possible way to bypass throttling.

Then why does the throttle folder with files exist on *some* prepaid devices (as i stated, while this is using a prepaid service it technically is not a prepaid phone)? It obviously is there for a reason. Too many people have reported success with increased data speed by removal of these files to not be true.... Also saw a posting about getting much deeper into the phone, doing stuff to dex and jar files, ive been meaning to find that posting again.

Idk, maybe? Youd probably get better feedback if you posted this as an independent question rather than here.
Thats interesting about the WCDMA thing though. Ive heard before that that can help but havent tried it... most stuff i havent tried because im afraid of doing something wrong and screwing up the radio, haha
Some have had their speed reinacted through straight talk by calling and apologizing and complaining and asking to speak to the manager, basically any means possible you have of trying to extract precious high speed from them. But, who knows how long it would last for if you were able to succeed.

Old technology. It was replaced with Sims. Long ago. If it were that simple people would just put there Sim into a different phone and have full access again. This can NOT be done.

I also use MetroPCS, but I have not seen any throttling. I would def call them. I have found their cust service to be pretty good. I normally get 50-75mb down speeds here in New York and I use 15-20 gb's a month. There are areas where the speed will be slower, but it is still 15mb or higher in those areas. The $60 plan does not have any throttling.

Ahhh. So that applies to CDMA phones, but not GSM phones, if im understanding correctly?

Man, wish I could get MetroPCS where I live.... Im stuck with AT&T or any prepaid plans that piggyback off AT&T. Super jealous right now, I can only use 3GBs until data speeds become unbearable, haha

Yeah, I used to have AT&T, then Straight Talk. I switched to MetroPCS because I kept getting throttled after my 3gb's were up. The throttled speeds are useless. Now I don't have to worry about data at all. I wasn't sure the service would be too great, but I have not had any issues so far. But that's the great thing about buying unlocked phones, we are free to use whoever we want.

CDMA phones use Sims as well.
You're going to want to use T-Mobile to get the best speeds. If you have a healthy MT2-L03 and using fast.t-mobile.com as your APN I'm never throttled unlimited top tier LTE. You won't get the same speeds with any other carrier.

They are good for data. But coverage is very limited still.
cricket
I pay $55 a month from Cricket. That gets you 10gb of LTE. Throttled at 8mb a second. thats more then enough to do anything. I've had this phone since release and use mobile hotspot all the time for my laptop and tablet on the road.

So after being throttle you get 8mbps of download on 3g? What's your speed like before being throttle?
What are you talking about that is before throttle. what providers promise and what the towers actually deliver is 2 different. things. 8mbps is LTE. my brother has a Note 4 on Verizion and on a speed test with 3 bars of LTE he only gets around 10mbps if he's lucky. he is not being throttled. he pays about $160 a month compared to my $55 from cricket. there is nothing on my HAM2 that I cant do with 8mbps. name something....
