Desire 601 not "saving" anything? - HTC Desire 601

I have a Desire 601, it has a very odd problem. Yesterday i went to unlock the bootloader, I got the unlock code and flashed it to the phone. It had flashed successfully, Turn the phone back on and the booloader is still locked. Not only that but there's a passcode on the phone. Go into settings, remove the passcode, reboot the phone and the passcode is back on. One more thing, Lets say i delete all the pictures from the phone, if i reboot the phone the pictures mysteriously reappear. Anybody have any idea what's going on? Thanks

Not 100% but sounds like you need to flash an unsecure kernel.

What do you mean by an "unsecure kernal"?
Will this work even with a locked bootloader?

[Q] Evo 4G LTE HELP!!!!

OKAY, so. this is my first smartphone, and i basically screwed it all up... I unlock the bootloader (it's an HTC Evo 4G LTE on Sprint btw)
did that fine, but i didnt root it right. it still says S-ON. i can go into TWRP 2.4.3.0. I tried flashing a rom, stupidly i didnt know that it wasnt rooted, and i HAVE NOT made backups. it basically wiped the whole phone. i USED to be able to go into the bootloader, and TWRP, but i tried to fix it using RUU, and it just gets stuck at the silver HTC logo, with triangles in all the corners... no going into bootloader anymore, and not going into TWRP. so my guess im basically screwed, and need a new phone. do i need a new phone? PLEASE HELP ME
Wrong forum

What happens when you plug it in to PC and and look at device manager.? Someone else posted almost this same thing last night? It doesn't say QHUSBDLMODE does it?
Also, S-on has nothing to do with root . HTC dev unlock leaves device S-on. All you needed to do was flash a rooted ROM. You don't root a device, you root a ROM.
From my Evo LTE, yup.

[Q] AT&T One X+, Cannot boot into recovery, red exclamation mark and phone image

Hey guys,
After months of going through every possible related thread, or almost every one, i've reluctantly had to resort to opening a new one.
I have the AT&T HTC One X+ and I wanted to use it in Pakistan with the service provider being mobilink, Initially my phone was locked so I had to purchase an unlock code online. Once unlocked I inserted my Pakistani sim and I could make calls but wifi would not connect to any network and mobile data would not work at all. Frustrated, i turned to rooting and installing a custom ROM for the first time ever, thinking it would solve my problem according to my research on this forum. In retrospect I might have been wrong.
Nevertheless, I installed CM10, the brainchild of the highly esteemed Lloir, without any hitches via Hasoon's toolkit. I didnt care about my data and tried to make a recovery but I might have failed. Anyways, I downloaded the RUU as well. Everything was fine except the problems we all knew about i.e the calling issue, the camera, etc. Except, my problem was still not solved; my Pakistani sim always had the same effect, wifi and mobile data would stop working. It would take a factory reset to be able to use wifi and MD at all.
Frustrated, i wanted to try another ROM, namely Viper. Here is where the current problem began. I followed the steps on Hasoons toolkit thread to uninstall the custom ROM, revert to default, and relock the bootloader. Ever since i relocked the bootloader I havent been able to either unlock it again, nor boot into recovery. Command prompts never work for me because I'm obviously doing something wrong. But i did set-up the android sdk custom prompt thing and made the desktop shortcut and that seems to at least recognize my phone when its not in fastboot (as does my windows 7 ultimate 64-bit laptop), or in other words, when i'm using the phone proper and not in bootloader.
So, to highlight my issues: i'm stuck with a relocked bootloader with the default ROM (i did manage to revert back from CM10 before relocking), and i cannot boot into recovery. Luckily, i'm $10/month for insurance so I can get another phone for $200 but I'd rather man up and fix this myself with your help of course.
Please help,
Thanks,
Ammar.
Why not just flash a ruu again and start from scratch? It does it all for you.
You won't be able to get into recovery, manipulate fastboot and install roms etc since u locked your bootloader.
Relock bootloader, run ruu, unlock bootloader then flash custom recovery via fastboot and install a rom.
Find the ruu here for:

bootloader is already locked, i've flashed the default ROM, still can't unlock bootloader or go into recovery. upon clicking recovery in bootloader menu phone shows a red triangle on top of an image of a phone and then phone restarts.
Run the RUU my man. Running that reverts everything back to default. No recovery or anything. It's just like you got your phone out of the box

He's right. I locked mine up a few weeks ago and used RUU and it was like I took it out of the box. Unlocked bootloader and started over again. Worked like a charm.
Everyone should have the RUU on hand just incase something like this happens

Stuck on "CID Incorrect!" after flashing recovery

Hey guys. Long story short, my friend wanted me to root his Evo 3D. I got S-Off using the HTC Dev Unlock method, flashed Ext4 Recovery, and ROMs wouldn't flash from within the recovery. So I flashed TWRP 2.6 using fastboot, and now I get a "CID Incorrect! Update fail!" message when I enter hboot. This wouldn't be a problem, except fastboot doesn't work. I realize now that I wasn't supposed to flash stuff with the recovery (I come from the Nexus 4).
Basically: CID Incorrect message is keeping me from flashing anything
How do I get rid of it?
HTC Evo 3D on Virgin Mobile
S-ON (Even though it's HTC Unlocked, so it's technically S-OFF)
HBOOT-1.58
WAS running CM 10.2, but it may have flashed P.A.C. Rom, but I can't get past the HTC splash screen
I don't care how dirty and quick the fix is, I just want one so I can get this thing off of my hands.

Technicaly, you just unlocked bootloader. S-off is totaly different thing and you can't get it with HTC Dev. Try flashing some sense ROMs
That's just it, I can't flash anything because fastboot won't detect the device.

[Q] Easiest way to return my phone to stock to send back to Virgin Mobile?

I've been out of the loop with this phone for so long that I think I need a refresher on how to return this to stock. I am getting a replacement phone sent from Virgin Mobile as mine is having issues with the charging port and battery contacts making things crazy like the screen comes on randomly all the time and the headphone jack stops working. Should be easy as I am still on Jellybean, rooted, and I have Philz touch. Only thing I'm concerned about really is the HTC screen says "tampered" I've actually sent phones back to Virgin Mobile before though with custom roms on them without trouble but I don't know if they've gotten more strict.

Just run the RUU from the link above. You should be perfectly fine unless you tried to update to kitkat and failed in that case, flash the stock jellybean hboot from the same link. RUU is self explanatory.
I see the RUU is an exe file. Does that mean it needs to be run on the PC with my phone connected or on my phone?
Also to get rid of Philz touch and get stock recovery back I flash the stock recovery from that list?
HTC Desire 601 (Zara_CL)
Yes connect your phone to your pc and start the RUU. It will restore stock recovery for you. You'll need to be in boot loader when you start the RUU with administrative rights.
Sent from my HTC0P4E1 using XDA Free mobile app
U dont need to boot into bootloader. Just boot into android and run the ruu as administrator. If ur anti-virus detects it as a virus, disable it. Make sure u disable stand-by mode and close all runnin apps on ur pc
Okay sounds simple enough. Do I need adb drivers for the ruu.exe to communicate with my phone?
HTC Desire 601 (Zara_CL)
Yes. Go to htc.com and download htc sync manager. It comes with the driver for ur phone
I keep getting an error 155 when trying to do this? What am I doing wrong? thanks.
U need to relock ur bootloader. Get into fastboot and type fastboot oem lock
Thanks I finally found it out and it worked like a charm

This is direct from HTC. HTC, well HTC US so far, has started making their RUUs available. But only for what they consider "current" devices.
The just officially started on 12/31 so hopefully the other HTC branches will follow. If they do, I'll post them.
I've got a noob question. Because i don't feel like i fully understand what Google results showed me, would flashing an RUU be the same (or similar) to flashing the stock kitkat version?

Yeah, it wipes everything an returns it to complete stock.
Just the original KK firmware
The RUU restore just the original firmware. If you have Unlock and S-off and tampered, it will stay the same and unaffected. One plus from restoring with KK RUU is if you have the hcheck issue from restoring to stock through TWRP and having a boot loop, it will fix it

?!?!?!?
The RUU restores everything, not just firmware.
It doesn't care if you're S-OFF or not.
It only won't work if your S-ON with your bootloader unlocked, if you're S-OFF it will work just fine with unlocked bootloader.
Also, RUUs are so thorough at restoring your phone to stock, they remove the tampered flag.
The hcheck issue was only in JB not KitKat, so if someone is running KK RUU they don't even need to worry about it.
I have a couple questions if anyone could be of help i am currently running the clockwork senseless rom 4.2.2, I'm s-off bootloader is unlocked I'm wondering if I have to use an run from here(I have Virgin Mobile) to update and if I do what will change? Will my partition table change or my SD card or u internal memory be erased? Will it change my hboot version? Will it change my s-off status? I realized most of the custom rom for the zara-cl require kk firmware and so i want to update mine to be able to flash the other Roms. Thanks in advance for anyone helping me out.
Do u have to download these with a computer or laptop for them to work right? I have downloaded every link of the kit Kat RUU with my phone then transferred into my laptop but I can't get the program to work it will load and then have me accept the policy agreement and once I hit the "next" button it closes and then does nothing, so do I have to download using a laptop? Any help is appreciated thanks!

Not the first time I see this, most of the times caused by MS Windows. See this FAQ at #10
The FAQ isn't for the Desire 601 but its the same thing for all HTC executable RUUs.

Hey thanks a lot for the help! I ended up trying that downloaded that program installed it and then I actually got the RUU to work..!..... But for some reason right when it starts to update an error pops up saying that the program htc_fastboot.exe has stopped working? I think that's what it said. But I don't have that program in my adb folder all I have is just fastboot? Luckily nothing happened to my phone it just rebooted and everything is still here... Do I need to find that program and put it in my adb folder?

htc_fastboot.exe is htc's version of fastboot packed with the RUU installer. This is the version of fastboot the installer is unsing to flash the RUU on your phone and it looks like its not working for an unknown reason.... Probably something wrong with your computer, I would try on another PC or try to update/fix your Windows.
